For anyone who hasn't tried to make raw food meals, this is a good book to start with. Surprisingly, many of the recipes are excellent. It's not just fruit and nuts and berries. I particularly liked the raw food version of zucchini spaghetti and tomato sauce. If you're thinking of trying a raw food diet, I highly recommend starting with the easy recipes in this book.

After reviewing many raw-food books, I ultimately decided to purchase this one as most reviews stated that it was a great start to a raw-food lifestyle. They certainly weren't lying! This book is a great way to branch out into raw foods or even to just include more veggies and fruits in your diet. The recipes are easy to understand and follow; and best of all, they do not require many unusual ingredients or costly items like dehydrators, etc. that many of the other raw books do. I recommend it highly and reference it often.

This is my least favorite of my raw food collection. I had to have it because it got such good reviews but I feel like the recipes are not detailed enough and they are kind of boring.

I took a raw foods class at the Whole Foods Market in Ft Lauderdale, and the instructor recommended this book.

I am good around the kitchen, but had no experience with raw foods preparation before, and this book was great. As a single guy, I was able to create quick and easy raw food meals that I enjoyed and did not have a lot of extra stuff around.

Try the Mock pad thai, or the flourless chocolate cake. Great stuff!

This cookbook is pretty simple, but I gave it four stars because I think it's a superb raw food book for beginners.
It was one of the first raw cook books I ever purchased, and it made the preparation of raw dishes seem less foreign. However, I am an accomplished chef, so I did find many of the recipes to be way too easy. Even if you are new to raw food, if you have a lot of cooking experience you might want to find something a little more challenging.

Her recipes are easy but a lot are very simple or start out like her ar the ingredients oh but 1 or 2 of the ingredients are another recipe in the book so now go find this one and also make that. It would be easier if she did not break them up as much.

(Hide Review...)  The perfect start to a raw lifestyle

This book was definitely made for me -- a novice raw food enthusiast flying solo and not investing in expensive raw accoutrements like a VitaMix and a dehydrator. Cornbleet walks you through the most obvious preparations and activities, from how long to soak your nuts to how to mince onions. I really appreciated the simplicity of this book, and everything I've made so far is delicious. I'm especially hooked on the zucchini pasta with either marinara or mock peanut sauce, the chocolate mousse, and the sun-dried tomato tapenade. These recipes are easy to modify to your liking, especially once you get more confident in your raw ways, and it's wonderful (in my experience) to be able to live by the same basic ingredients each week. Whether you're interested in going fully raw, living by the general guideline of 80% raw, 20% cooked, or simply want to integrate more raw foods into your diet, this is the perfect introduction to a cleaner, clearer, non-dogmatic and beautifully simplified way to eat.

I honestly can't find anything wrong with Jennifer's book except for perhaps the fact that she hasn't finished her dessert book which is supposed to come out next. I found that from getting needed supplies, to how to soak nuts/fruits, she's covered pretty much everything. I've tried several of her recipes and found them to be easy and very tasteful. Many raw books have recipes which call for items I've never heard of or are hard for a newbie to procure. That was not a problem for me with this book. Jennifer also does a good job of offering options/alternatives in a recipe, which I found to be very helpful.

Okay, I'm a jerk - I admit it. I went 30 days eating only raw food to give me something to complain about in a blog. I did absolutely no preparation prior, and the night before starting, I picked up this book. I expected disaster - I wanted disaster - disaster makes for colorful blogging. What I got instead was 30 days of great food. This book is easy, it's accessible to uncooperative, it didn't require a bunch of specialized tools (a food processor is required), and the food is actually good. The raw marinara sauce is unbelievably good.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone - raw foodist or not. You'll actually use this one.

I purchased the "...Idiot's Guide to Eating Raw". While the publication is very informative and yes it does provide a transitioning guide, much of the food for transitioning requires dehydration. This publication keeps you from starving during the hours or days of dehydrating other foods. The meals in it are quick and delicious. The breakfast section was a huge success at my house. Please give the Muesli a try--Yummo!! (Rachel Ray side of me). If you're new to eating raw, I suggest you purchase this publication.

I was going to go on about how much I love this book, but the following points speak for themselves: This is why the book is GREAT!
1.) It really is fast and easy and fits the "on the go" lifestyle perfectly(I can easily make dinner with dessert after an 11 hour day)
2.) The recipe pages have the recipes as well as alternative recipes. This is in case you are not completely satisfied with the recipe and want to change it a bit(with page numbers).
3.) The recipes all tell you how long the finished food will keep in you fridge or freezer. (My personal favorite, since I never know how long the food will last before it starts to spoil)
4.) If an ingredient in your recipe has to be made, the page number of that recipe is supplied in the recipe itself. This makes it easier to find.
4.) The recipes really are delicious. Even though some look plain, the end result always surprises you.

(Hide Review...)  Great starter book - not pretentious, just delicious
Reviewer Permalink
I love this book! I was attracted to the simplicity of preparation and the nutritional benefits of raw foods. I noticed that "raw food" was some kind of concept or entity a few months ago and was immediately fascinated - no dealing with a hot oven or stove, no heavy greasy pans, delicious ways to eat more vegetables and get more nutrients, no worries about heat destroying nutrients, and NO POTS AND PANS TO CLEAN!

Cornbleet made this book easy to read (good layout with good use of white space), lots of enticing photos, extremely clear and concise instructions, and with individuals or couples in mind (recipes are for 1 or 2 people).

I am having a great time making raw marinara sauce (my carnivorous hunter husband says it is the best marinara sauce he's tasted), walnut pate (so delicious!), almond cream, key lime pie, and green smoothies - all from this book. I love not having to heat anything. I am also making traditional dishes the raw "way" (no heating) and substituting beans or tofu (not considered raw) because it's so easy and far more flavorful!

If I had known about this way of eating when I moved into my first apartment, I could have had a blender and a food processor and just bought lots of fresh fruits, veggies, seeds, nuts, oils, maybe some bread and yogurt, but you get the picture - minimal appliances, minimal mess, and maximum space, nutrition, and energy.

This book has simple recipes that make preparing and eating your raw vegetables and fruits truly easy, pleasurable, and delicious. None of the recipes require a dehydrator. A few of the other raw food books radiate "Hey, look at me, I'm a really cool yuppie bohemian in a cool boho location whose social life revolves around raw foods and cool friends with plenty of expendable income and time" but this one is not; the focus is on the food. Raw Food Made Easy is a simple, no nonsense, inexpensive approach to making foods (that we already eat raw) infinitely more interesting and satisfying. I can't recommend this book enough. The Boutenkos are also excellent resources for raw foods.

I bought this book along with the DVD and they are both very informative. Especially for people starting out, this book is an easy way to get on the path to raw foods. I found the transition from cooked food to raw fairly easy..things that I crave ie. chocolate and cheese can easily be made to taste like the real thing or better! I would also recommend reading "12 Steps to Raw Foods" by Victoria Boutenko. It is such an informative, interesting read on a familys quest to eating 100% raw foods. Another great book is "The Raw Life and "Raw Knowledge" by Paul Nison. These two books are really what got me sparked on the raw food life. Incredibly informative and I learned things about cooked food that made me swear I would never return to eating it! Paul Nison also includes many interviews from raw fooders and raw food icons such as Viktoras Kulvinskas, co-founder of the Hippocrates Health Institute (formed with Ann Wigmore) and Gabriel Cousins(founder of the Tree of Life Rejuventation Centre) and author of "Conscious Eating" (A MUST READ!)
Raw food has changed my life in so many positive ways. Best wishes to all for choosing to explore this wonderful journey!

I've been preparing raw food for a couple months now. Juliano's RAW uncookbook was my first book (I wouldn't recommend it for starting out, I didn't get really into raw food until the two books I bought after). I got this book and ani's raw food kitchen at the same time. They're both great books with delicious recipes. I use them a lot, and like them for different reasons. This book is more simple, which I enjoy as the recipes are quicker. I feel that this book helped me the most to understand the basics of preparing raw food. The ingredients are all easily available (unlike juliano's and sometimes ani's). Yes some of the recipes are a bit obvious like making your own lemon juice, but I'm not hung up on that because there is much more to the book than a few over-simplified recipes. If you get this, I highly recommend the almond cookies and carob mousse made with avocado (I love making these for people who aren't familiar with raw preparation, they are always shocked and gobble them down!) But really, most of the recipes are awesome --except for the energizing purifying juice, not so much.

What is beautiful about this book is that it provides a perfect beginning for those of us who are making the hugh shift to raw food. I'm now 100% raw and have purchased many raw food books and the only one that feels right so far is "Raw food Made Easy". I enjoy learning the basics and building upon them, so learning how to chop parsley doesn't insult my intellect.

Many of the recipes in the other books are overwhelming and after all the sweat and tears, taste like crap. Jennifer's recipes are simple and taste heavenly. I find it easy to adjust to my own tastes and don't feel bad if it doesn't work out.

Some of my favorites: whole oatmeal w/almond milk (YUM!), not tuna, chocolate mousse, marinara and zucchini noodles. All so good and fresh.

Try out Jennifer's dvd, too. She truly is a teacher and the visuals will help with prepping and motivate you to get started.

Although I've always eaten healthily, I have only recently been introduced to raw food. I went on a one-day course a few months ago - and haven't looked back! I am just amazed at the variety of dishes that can be made, and how good they can taste.

As I work full time, I wanted a straightforward and practical book with quick and easy recipes, using everyday ingredients, that would encourage me to include more raw food in my diet. This book is perfect! It is set out in a clear and logical manner, with easy-to-follow recipes and invaluable information on individual ingredients, equipment and utensils, and any necessary preparation. A juicer, blender or food processor are required for most recipes, although some require no special equipment. It is also of a handy size and has an attractive and inviting cover.

I have tried several recipes, all of which have only taken minutes to make, and have tasted delicious - and so healthy! I especially enjoyed the Energizing-Purifying Juice and Flourless Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. I never knew avocado could be used in place of butter, cream and eggs and taste so divine! I have attached a few photos.

I like this book so much that I bought a copy for two of my friends, who are also raw food beginners.

All in all, an ideal kitchen companion for anyone who wishes to create easy, tasty and healthy meals, and discover the benefits and delights of raw food.

I don't have a lot of time for laborious recipes, but I want to eat raw as much as possible. Jenny Cornbleet created this 'cookbook' especially for people like me who don't have a dehydrator and don't have a lot of time to prepare delicious raw meals. The recipes in this book are so good and so easy that I often double the recipe and refrigerate the rest. I recently made the mediterranean kale salad (best with Lacinato kale, I think) and the chocolate mousse (unbelievably good!). If you have a cutting board, a knife, a blender, and a food processor (go out and buy one already!), you're good to go!

This book is invaluable! I'm new at this, so I'll reference back to it, even when I'm making recipes from other books. The recipes are awesome (I LOVE the marinara sauce!). The recipes are for only 1 or 2 people, so I can make a little bit on that first try, to see if I'm gonna like it. Instead of wasting a lot of money and resources on something I might not like. She is so detailed that if you are new at juicing, you'll know how many carrots to use for a 8 oz glass of carrot juice, or you'll learn to organize yourself by having the necessary and often used staples like chopped onions, lemon juice, etc. - so you can be ready for any recipe during the week. You'll know what items to buy in bulk and what items to buy weekly. She indicates how long each recipe will last in the fridge (one of my favorite features) - A "MUST" for those of us who are not totally committed yet. Her DVD is extremely professional and entertaining and a GREAT resource to have as well - BOTH are COMPLETELY worth every penny.

Excellent cookbook. Easy to follow recipes using basic ingredients that most of us have or can find in any local supermarket. Another plus is the taste factor. Even die-hard meat n' potato types will find many of the dishes enjoyable (I know because my husband is one!). You don't have to be a raw foodist or even a vegan (I'm not) to enjoy and benefit from this cookbook. There are some color photos, nicely done, that add to the overall quality of the book.

I did see one rating with three stars because they are a pro cook and the cookbook was "easy". Please view that as an isolated opinion since the cookbook never suggests that it is gourmet therefore why discredit it for being easy and simple.

Give it a try - I think you will really enjoy the food you create! One of my favorites is the chocolate mousse, page 160, made entirely without animal products. Yum!

I like that Jenny has lots of variations on each recipe that allows for customization of the food to your taste. The design of this book is simple so don't expect lots of slick and glossy photos- just yummy recipes with clear instructions. If you try one thing out of here- make it the key lime pie- yum! Happy Eating!

I love this cookbook because every recipe I have tried has turned out great! Maybe we just have the same taste. For instance, many raw foodists make a mock chocolate cake with walnuts, raisins, and carob, a combination that makes me ill. Cornbleet makes this instead with walnuts, dates, carob, and vanilla, and making that change is a stroke of genius.

Also, the recipes are not complicated and don't take a long time to make. (Raw Food/Real World, for instance, has gorgeous pictures, but the recipes are so labor-intensive I never feel like attempting them.)

The only downside is that because the recipes are supposed to be for "1 or 2 people", I always have to double or quadruple the amounts if I want more than a single serving.

I was rather disappointed with this book. First and foremost, a recipe book should make a person salivate as they look through it. The pictures lack clarity and good lighting, and the book's design is almost too simple. That being said, the author does have some really good ideas and tips for making up your own recipes. Think of these recipes as very rough guides, just waiting to be tweaked to your own personal tastes. Her dips, pates, and marinara sauces are delicious though, and in my opinion they make buying the book worthwhile. Just don't rely on it to be your main sourcebook. I should also probably mention that the author isn't as picky as other raw chefs about most of her ingredients being raw. One of her soup recipes is actually cooked. On a sidenote, most of her dessert recipes call for avocados, so if you're allergic to them, like me ( oh, the pain!), you'll have to do some adjusting or just find different recipes.

Ok...I was really disappointed. This is not what I had anticipated, but it is just what it says in other reviews a newbie guide to raw. But I expected so much more info on foods and combinations as well as simple but interesting ideas. Not stuff like Grape juice: bunch of grapes, then juice! I mean really now. If any one can tell me where to find a great raw food book that has 1-4 ingredient recipes that are fun, realistic and interesting, please let me know.

I have been interested in raw food idea for a long time, but was kind of afraid of the whole thing. I absolutely love this cook book! The recipes are really good and simple to make. My family loves most of it and I even have a few of my coworkers buying the same book and trying a new way of eating.

This book is a great tool for a beginner or raw food enthusiast. The Almond
milk is a great alternative to soy milk and diary. I finally have something to put on my cereal!

(Hide Review...)  Companion DVD rocks my world!

I bought the cookbook in conjunction with the companion DVD (sold separately). Personally, I see the cookbook as mere support for the video instruction. Bought alone--it would seem overly simplistic and even possibly frustrating that various recipes overlap. As support for the DVD explanation it makes perfect sense. Considering the set is for beginners in the raw food lifestyle it is absolutely fantastic. For people who already know all about juicing and vegetable preparation--it can seem a little trite at times--but for the average American ignorant to all things raw--the dvd helps you understand without feeling stupid or lost in strange new vocabularies and unusual foods.
I would have to say--for anyone who complains about the cost of the machines often used in raw fooding--sell your stove--and that alone will more than pay for any and all raw food supplies. That's what I did.
I have a juicer, dehydrator, blender, citrus juicer, food processor, water distiller,etc...all for far less than my old stove. I wouldn't buy this item without the DVD. Together they are a magical pair, great for an experienced raw foodist like myself and for sharing with all my friends who wonder how I can survive and thrive on a raw food diet. The information is practical for a busy life on the go, full of variety and unique flavors without complexity, fast, and tasty. Not to mention recipes similar to old comfort foods to satisfy any old lingering cravings. 5 stars all the way!

This is a fantastic beginner raw foods book. None of the recipes require anything more complicated than a blender and food processor. I taste-tested some of the recipes with a few omnivores with great results. The Walnut Paté and Flourless Chocolate Cake paid for the book alone.

Don't be discouraged by the worst book cover design I've ever seen. The recipes are great. They also need a better food stylist, lighting designer, photographer but only b/c they are not doing this book justice.

This book is great! The first recipe I made called the "Guacamole Sandwich" was the best thing I've ever tasted! I'll never think about eating cooked food again! All of the recipes are simple, fast and easy to understand.

I am a not a hard-core raw foodist. I just think incorporating raw foods is a good way to work towards a healthy diet. I have a few raw food books but this one has the easiest recipes to prepare. It's perfect for a beginner and even as I progress to more complicated meals, I come back to these recipes again and again. I particularly love the "Not Meatballs w/ Zucchini Pasta," "Mediterranean Kale" and "Walnut Pate." There are good desserts too, such as brownies... yum.

Also recommended: Raw Food, Real World-- More labor intensive recipes but excellent; has beautiful photos. Further, if you are ever in NYC, you may want to check out Pure Food and Wine-- I was skeptical (What?! A raw food restaurant? Come on!) but the food was very tasty and the restaurant had a cozy atmosphere...
