I received ED&BV for my birthday last month. It wasn't even on my wish list but it caught my stepdaughter's attention and I'm thrilled that it did! I've made about 7 or 8 of the recipes so far and they've all ranged from "Huh, that's pretty darn good" to "HOLY SMOKES! That's the most insanely delicious thing I've ever tasted!!!" (If you want an example of the latter, make the Rawesome Dip. It will blow your mind. You've been warned.) A BIG bonus for me: I also got an immersion blender for my birthday, and ED&BV provides a ton of opportunities for me to use it.
Pros: --The notes in the margin are extremely helpful and detailed, and offer great ideas for variations, serving suggestions, etc. --The recipes are all user-friendly enough for a less-experienced home cook --A lot of the recipes will freeze and reheat well, which is great for moms who work full-time or anyone who's just short on time --Many of the recipes are downright surprising (Cocoa Coconut Chili??? Yes. Really.) and genuinely unique, which is fun for any cookbook junkie who's gotten to the "Been there, cooked that" stage. Flipping through the pages of ED&BV, I lost track of the number of times I thought "Wow, I've never seen anything quite like that before ..." Cons: --No nutritional info. --A significant amount of obscure ingredients that you will probably only find in specialty ethnic shops. I already had fenugreek seeds in my pantry, but that's only because I'm lucky enough to have an Indian grocery store near my job. But neither my favorite well-stocked supermarket nor the local health food store carries these. (There are other authors, however, who are far worse in this regard.) --Poor index. If you look up "chickpeas," for example, you'll get a list of the page numbers where chickpea recipes can be found, but not a list of the specific recipe names and their page numbers. Overall, a definite must-have for anybody who loves veg or vegan cooking, or even an adventurous non-veg who just wants ideas for easy-to-make dishes that are as delicious as they are different. I am extremely impressed with this book, and I'm putting Dreena Burton's other books at the very top of my wish list right away. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-05 07:28:01 EST)

This is my go-to cookbook when I want something I know I will enjoy. I feel like this book was meant just for me. This book uses limited wheat, refined sweetners and plenty of sweet potatoes, tempeh, quickpeas, chocolate - all my favorite foods wrapped in a cute, colorful and modern looking little book. I have never made anything I didn't enjoy from this book but here are my favorites with recommendations:
Hemp-anola: This is way better and healthier than any granola you could buy at Whole Foods. I use quinoa flakes instead of barley flakes and a little extra blackstrap molasses and leave the nuts out (I feel like the hemp seed nuts are a lot) and serve with lots of blueberries or bananas and vanilla hemp or soymilk! Kids Dynamo Hummus: I'm 20 but the title appealed to me. The addition of cashews really adds creamyness. My only recommendation is to add more garlic. I also use Vega oil instead of flax oil. Balsamic Maple Sauce & Back to Basics Balsamic Vinaigrette: Dreena knows her balsamic vinegar. I use these all the time. I recommend using maple syrup with the dressing and I use extra virgin olive oil. Thick n Rich Gravy: This is just delicious. Its a cross between gravy and a "cheezy" sauce. I add a little extra nutritional yeast and use sweet white miso. My only problem is the thickness doesn't hold when I added it to hot pasta. It worked better the next day after refridgerating and drizzling over tofu and rice. Beats a BLT Sandwich!: My favorite sandwich. Period. I use basil, veganaise, romaine and big slices of Whole Wheat. Sweet & Sour Chipotle Tempeh with Sweet Potatoes: I love how healthy this sweet and sour sauce is. Sweet potatoes and tempeh go well together and it tastes even better cold the next day. Seared Portobello Mushrooms: Basic but really impressive. Its worth using a little extra oil (I fry in coconut oil) Chocolate Pumpkin Pie: 2 of my favorites foods combined and so easy to make. It might be a little spicy or "different" tasting for some. "Nicer" Krispie Squares: You could shock someone with the ingredients of these but they taste so authentic. Macadamia nut butter and agar powder (seaweed)?! Super-Charge Me! Cookies: No sugar, healthy, easy to mix-and match ingredients. I also make the Acai Antioxidant & Drink Your Greens Smoothie (tastes way better than it sounds trust me) often. I'm really thankful for books like these that make being vegan that much easier. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-07 07:25:01 EST)

Since our family has egg, milk and other food allergies, we have searched for a very long time for a cookbook of this caliber. Although we are not vegan, we were thrilled to see the many recipes that would allow us a wide
variety of yummy foods without knocking ourselves silly to find the ingredients! I would recommend this book to anyone who is searching for TRULY healthy recipes and/or who wants to cook & bake without using eggs! Joyce S. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-04 07:09:24 EST)

Not the most extensive review but I wanted to add my 5 stars to this book's review. I made the Sweet & Sour Chipolte Tempeh with Sweet Potatoes tonight and it was amazing! I have all of Dreena's books and have found many additions for The Rotation though that rotation is getting pretty wide... :o) Thanks Dreena for all your delicious recipes and thoughtful insights. Best from NC!

I own several vegan cookbooks and like many of them. But what sets this one apart is the overall consistent deliciousness of the meals, as well as great suggestions for what dishes to serve alongside each other to make a complete meal.

Dreena is very helpful and so sweet! I only know this from reading her blog where I have asked her questions about recipes and she always gets back to me so quickly which is so awesome. What I love about this cookbook is that the recipes are fairly easy and most of all, HEALTHY. Other vegan cookbooks have some good recipes but they also have a lot of sodium and fat and sugar..Dreena's recipes are yummy but I don't feel guilty after indulging in them. She is also very creative! My current favorite recipes are Hide the Lentils Tomato Sauce and Super Charge Me Cookies (!!!!). I also like how Dreena notes what you can substitute certain things with...esp like dried herbs vs fresh herbs. All in all, this is a great staple cookbook, especially for new vegans.

Though I appreciate her effort to label each recipe, when appropriate, "wheat free," these wheat free recipes generally use spelt as a replacement. Though it is correct that spelt is not wheat, spelt does contain gluten, so these recipes, while more appropriate for those with a wheat intolerance, would not be appropriate for someone with Celiac disease.
I used her first cookbook quite a lot before needing to stop eating gluten because her muffin recipes, especially, were excellent. Admittedly, I haven't had much luck trying many recipes in this cookbook because of needing gluten-free recipes (not just wheat free) but I think this would be a good buy for vegans without other restrictions. This book has a little of everything-- appetizers, soups, salads, main courses, side dishes, desserts and drinks. I love how it's organized, and I have had great success with many of the recipes.
The absolute best recipe in this book are the Chocolate Peanut Butter cookies. You need to buy this book for that recipe because they are SO GOOD! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-10 00:55:42 EST)

I love dreena burton! She is so creative in the ingredients she uses and the dishes she creates. She has a lot of options with each recipe so you can keep your diet varied. I have only tried a few recipes, but the ones i have are great: several types of hummus, cashew-banana ice cream, and the maple pecan blondies.

While I am not a vegan, I do dabble in vegan/vegetarian cooking. So far this cookbook has blown me away! The ingredients are focused on healthy fats and sugars and, of course, the emphasis on whole grains and organic veggies, which is really key for me. The Supercharge Me! cookies are mouth watering! They passed the "kid test" at home and with 2.5 grams of fiber per cookie, no proccessed sugar and loads of whole grain, passed the mom test also. :) Thank you Dreena for creating easy and delicious recipes!

I completely enjoy using this cookbook to discover new vegan recipes and learn new ways of looking at time tested ones. The recipes are generally very simple, easy-to-follow and very tasty.
My only wish is that she included more photos. Otherwise, it's a great cookbook for vegans and the folks who love them. I highly recommend it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-23 06:31:41 EST)

One of the first cookbooks I got after going vegan. Dreena's recipes showcase the fresh, flavorful foods that comprise a healthful vegan diet. My favorites so far are the Tempeh Hashbrown Cassarole (perfect brunch food), the Orange Sesame Tofu (perfect with brown rice and swiss chard), the spelt Breakfast Crepes (heavenly with grilled fruit inside), and the Raspberry Cornmeal Pancakes with Celestial Cream (comfort food at its best - I could eat the Celestial Cream with a spoon). This is as good as it gets. I recommend this cookbook to anyone just starting to explore vegan cooking because these recipes always win people over!

I love this cookbook. I have many other popular vegan cookbooks, but I use this one all the time. I like the use of whole grains, and the limited use of refined sugars.

Eat, Drink & be Vegan is a great compilation of vegan cooking. I love how Dreena adds personal notes and helpful hints throughout the book and is not afraid to recommend her favorite brands. I actually sat down and read the book from cover to cover before trying a single recipe!

I am not a health-concious person at all. I have always stayed far, far away from stereptypical healthy vegan food. This book has definitely got me rethinking the way I eat. Everything in this book is delicious without as much fat or sugar as I am used to.
I was especially impressed by the baked goods. Until recently I had always passed on the hippyish carob-and-flax fare. Even as a vegan I knew only one way to bake: with lots of margarine, oil and white sugar. I was amazed by Dreena's lemon-poopyseed cookies in this respect. They have a little oil but absolutely no margarine. However, they were everything I could ask for in a cookie! The addition of brown rice syrup made them chewy and moist and not cakey at all, not what I had expected from a cookie with no marg. I was delighted that she came up with a vegan version of rice crispie squares, my childhood favourite. They were very convincing! The chocolate-pumpkin pie tasted almost like what I remember cheesecake tasting like, without any fake cheese products whatsoever. Anyone who doesn't have access to tofutti products should try this if they get a cheesecake craving. One small thing I didn't like about this book was that it used a few ingredients that were too processed for me. For instance, she suggests you use a pre-made graham crust and canned pumpkin pie mix for the chocolate-pumpkin pie. The only vegan pre-made crust I could find at my grocery store was full of trans fats. I had to consult another cookbook on my shelf to figure out how to make a pie crust. Someone who doesn't have many other cookbooks (and also doesn't want to consume trans fats) might not have this option. I don't think it would have been very hard to include a simple pie crust recipe. I also wish she had used plain old pureed pumpkin, and included her own spice blend instead of leaving that up to the pumpkin pie mix. That way, I could have had the option of using fresh cooked pumpkin in my pie if I wanted. I had to guess how much spice and sweetener would be in her canned mix. Otherwise, a really great book! The recipes are all pretty simple and non are too time-consuming. I would recommed this to just about anyone. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-03-28 22:33:22 EST)

I enjoy Dreena's books so much--like her I have a little girl (she has two) and a husband to cook for, so the dishes need to please everybody and not taste too spicy, too "out there", etc. When I read her books I feel like I have a vegan girlfriend giving me advice and sharing recipes, supporting me in my efforts to be vegan. Dreena's recipes are terrific because she gets you trying new ingredients (I had never used agave nectar before, or made cookies with 5-spice powder, or a smoothie with hemp seed nuts) but the results are things that are new and interesting without being strange.
Here's what I've made from the book-- Banana Pecan Rice Pudding Pie--My husband and I loved this. Easy to make--just make extra brown rice when you make the Spicoli Burgers so that's ready to go, and as she says, you can put this together in a snap! Kinda Corny Muffins--loved these! Very filling and satisyfing without being too heavy. Great with soup or stew. Raspberry Chocolate Chip Scones--my daughter really liked these Raspberry Cornmeal Pancakes--Yummy. Again, very satisfying since they are made with whole grains instead of white flour. Tomato Basil Breakfast Quesadilla--have to give this fair justice--I didn't have any basil when I made this, and obviously that's an important ingredient. Even so I will probably modify this recipe in the future. You include Roasted Red Pepper and Almond Hummus in this, and I just did not care for the almond (cherry?) flavor in the hummus. But I liked the idea of a savory "quesadilla" for breakfast, so this will help inspire new ideas. Simplest Garlic Bread--rubbing a clove of fresh garlic on frozen bread didn't work so well for me. Maybe I did something wrong. What I did instead was take a cube of frozen minced garlic like they sell at the grocery store and rub that on the bread. Much easier. Broccoli Cashew Teriyaki Tofu Stir-Fry--Delicious!!! In fact we are having this today. I buy a container of Asian stir-fry veggies at the store that has a good mix of carrots, broccoli, bell peppers, white onion, mushrooms, snow peas, etc. for a really tasty variety (and added convenience) Polenta Casserole--good, but has a hint of flavor that doesn't seem to belong. Maybe the red wine vinegar? Spicoli Burgers--Delicious!! Does take a bit of labor making the patties, so do this when you have some time. Thai Chick-Un Pizza--Really interesting flavors. A fresh tasting pizza that makes you feel good after eating, not like "ugh" after a typical pizza. My husband (who still eats meat) loved this and requested I make this again. I thought the peanut butter flavor was a tad too much for me so I will try using a little less next time. Warm Potato Spinach Salad with Pine Nut Dressing--OH MY GOD!!! This was fabulous!!! I had to force myself to put the fork down and walk away! As Dreena says this tastes best when it is freshly made and served warm. 5-Star Ice-Cream Cookie Sandwiches--Loved these!! Such a neat flavor for a cookie. Again--new and different, but not strange. I would make these again but I am trying to lose weight and can't be trusted with these in the freezer. Acai Antioxidant Smoothie--Really like this. I leave out the agave nectar entirely--I don't think this needs any sweetener personally. Looks like acai is going to be the next big thing--been hearing more about it lately. I highly recommend this book, as well as her other ones. It will have you eating healthy vegan foods without too much fuss. Dreena's recipes are always easy to follow, and the ingredients are not hard to find if you have access to a health food store. Well I'm still waiting for my copy of ED&BV but I wanted to say that I tried a few of her recipes from her blog and they were DELICIOUS! Then I saw she was on myspace and I left her a little comment about how excited I was to get her newest book. She wrote back the very next day to explain that they were re-printing it and that was the reason for the delay. I mean really, when was the last time an author took the time thank you and then explain things personally. I think she's an awesome cook, her books are amazing and on top of all that, she's a super sweet person.

I am new to veganism. I have dabbled over the years but ever since my 3.5 yr old was found to be severely allergic to eggs, milk, and peanuts I have searched for recipes that could accommodate his needs. I didn't want him to be left out at parties or birthdays, or to always have to have a separate meal from the rest of us. I also found that my weight was so much more controlled with less meat and dairy. Dreena has made my leap so much easier and my dear son has not been left out of any celebrations. Her recipes are wonderful. They never lack for taste, are easy to make and not time consuming. She is available to help and answer any questions if you email her or visit her blog. I have all 3 of her cookbooks and use them almost every night! I Love her Coconut Cake! I even got all of my co workers to try the cake and they thought it was superb. You would never go wrong buying her book and it will not sit on the shelf. Go for it~

I should have written a review of this cookbook long ago, but I finally just put my fork down (literally) after eating another one of ED&BV's fabulous recipes and said, "People must know how great this cookbook is!" And here I am :)
What did I just finish? The White Bean, Walnut, and Spinach Phyllo Rolls with the Traditional Cranberry Sauce. This is the second time I have made it. It is unbelievable. So easy, but so elegant and delicious. That's how I characterize a lot of Dreena's recipes - easy, elegant, delicious. This book is full of uncomplicated recipes with easy to find ingredients (at least, for me - I have a decently stocked Stop & Shop, Shaw's Supermarket, Whole Foods, and health food store within a 15-mile radius). The results have all been spectacular. I've also made (and LOVED) the Olive Oyl Pasta, White Bean & Rosemary Soup with Jumbo Croutons (OMG amazing), Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto with Toasted Almonds and Pine Nuts, Sweet Potato Lentil Chili, Rosemary Cornmeal Polenta Fries, Lentil Veggie Chimichangas with Hide the Lentils Tomato Sauce, Coconut Lime Basmati Rice, Cashew-Ginger Tofu, Thai Chick-Un Pizza, Orange Sesame Tofu, Olive and Sun-Dried Tomato Hummus, Savory French Lentils, Cimmamon Lime Quinoa with Apricots and Almonds, One Wild Chick Soup (honestly, it is as savory and filling as the best chicken and rice soup you would have eaten in your "omni" days), Veggie Tempeh Muffaletta (I think I'm in love...probably the most time-consuming recipe in the book, but it is sooooooo worth it!), Beats a BLT Sandwich! (sure does!), Spicy Sweet Potato and Peanut Stew with Polenta Croutons, Cumin Lime Tofu, Autumn Puree, and Monkey Minestrone. I literally cannot believe how many more of the recipes I want to try. Dreena makes everything seem so accessible. I'd never made anything with tempeh before (despite began a vegan for a while now!) but with her clear, step by step instructions and sidebars, Dreena makes vegan cooking approachable for everyone, vegans and omnis alike. I can tell you, I have not even come close to using as many recipes in my other vegan cookbooks as I have with ED&BV. Let me be frank... I own several vegan cookbooks...all the major titles by all the major vegan cookbook authors...and this is, by FAR, the best of the bunch. If you own one vegan cookbook, make it ED&BV. You won't regret it! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-12 23:34:22 EST)

I should have written a review of this cookbook long ago, but I finally just put my fork down (literally) after eating another one of ED&BV's fabulous recipes and said, "People must know how great this cookbook is!" And here I am :)
What did I just finish? The White Bean, Walnut, and Spinach Phyllo Rolls (I think that's what they're called? I don't have my book with me) with the Traditional Cranberry Sauce. This is the second time I have made it. It is unbelievable. So easy, but so elegant and delicious. That's how I characterize a lot of Dreena's recipes - easy, elegant, delicious. This book is full of uncomplicated recipes with easy to find ingredients. The results have all been spectacular. I've also made (and LOVED) the Olive Oyl Pasta, White Bean & Rosemary Soup with Jumbo Croutons (OMG amazing), Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto pasta (sorry, can't remember the real name of it!), Sweet Potato Lentil Chili, Rosemary Cornmeal Polenta Fries, Lentil Veggie Chimichangas with Hide the Lentils Tomato Sauce, Coconut Lime Basmati Rice, Cashew-Ginger Tofu, Thai Chick-Un Pizza, Orange Sesame Tofu, Olive and Sun-Dried Tomato Hummus, plus many more which I can't remember right now. I know there's a totally rad quinoa dish with almonds and dried apricots but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me! Let me be frank... I own several vegan cookbooks...all the major titles by all the major vegan cookbook authors...and this is, by FAR, the best of the bunch. If you own one vegan cookbook, make it ED&BV. You won't regret it! (I will go back and edit this review once I can re-check the names of the recipes..I'm sure I got a few wrong!) (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-03 21:35:27 EST)

I ordered ED&BV and have enjoyed the tasty, healthful recipes. With an eye towards fat content, these recipes are tasty, satisfying and quick to prepare. Whenever I have limited time and want a healthful satisfying meal I turn to Dreena's books. I also have found that I enjoy Dreena's flavor combinations better than many other vegan cookbooks. Eat and Enjoy!

I have only had this cookbook for a month or so, but the two recipes I have tried so far are among the best food I've ever cooked at home. They were both mouth-wateringly good. I highly recommend this book!

Another great cookbook by Burton. The recipes are easy and mostly quick, healthy, and they taste great. I love the breakfast section, and she has included a lot of common sense tips and ideas for vegan meals and snacks.

Her third vegetarian cookbook, Dreena Burton's "Eat, Drink & Be Vegan" focuses on recipes for celebratory foods that consist of vegan fare perfect for everything from a romantic meal, to dinner parties, to casual potlucks, to formal dining occasions of all kinds. A compilation offering more than 150 delicious vegan recipes ranging from Zucchini Spelt Muffins; Cinnamon Sweet Tortilla Strips; Cocoa-Coconut Chili; and White Bean Rosemary Soup with Jumbo Cruton and Fresh Basil; to Cashew-Ginger Tofu; Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto with Toasted Almonds and Pine Nuts; Five Spice Almond Cookies; and Mulled Cran-Apple Cider, "Eat, Drink & Be Vegan" is enhanced with sixteen full-color photographs and a welcome addition to personal, professional, and community library vegetarian cookbook collections. Also very highly recommended are Dreena Burton's two previous vegetarian cookbooks: "The Everyday Vegan" and "Vive le Vegan!".

Dreena has become my favorite cookbook author after her other two books...this one puts her over the top. It is what I have come to expect from Dreena, but more. I always love her tasty flavor combinations and her healthful desserts. Eat Drink and Be Vegan has tons of entree recipes that have all come out great. One of my favorites is the tempeh muffaletta...simply delicious. Other favorites have been Sniffle Soup, Lemon poppyseed cookies, peanut butter chocolate cookies, and Quinoa Conffetti Casserole. Also my husband and I adore the Balsamic Maple Glaze...good on everything. I can't wait to work my way through the entire book.

As our vegan cookbook selection expands--for that matter, as the selection of vegan cookbooks on the market expands--my wife and I find ourselves using certain cookbooks more and some less... or not at all. As with vegan restaurants in cities like New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, simply existing isn't good enough anymore. You've got to be good to be competitive. This development is good for consumers and for veganism, since there's no tolerance for lousy, difficult vegan food when there is plenty of good eating to be had. eat, drink & be vegan, Dreena Burton's latest cookbook, tops even her own first two books, The Everyday Vegan and Vive Le Vegan!. Dreena excels at concocting practical recipes that taste satisfying and--oh, by the way--happen to be pretty darn healthy. Bonus! ED&BV is attractively designed and, like her previous books, focused on the practical, featuring dozens of helpful tips on getting your kitchen equipped (hint: none of these are fancy-schmancy Williams Sonoma items, and will serve you well no matter what book you're cooking from), food preparation, and cooking and baking notes. Most of the recipes come with helpful tips and recommendations on pairing with other recipes in the book, as well as serving suggestions. Dreena will have you putting meals together like a pro. While some ingredients may not be available in just any store (quinoa, agave nectar, arrowroot powder, etc.), overall ED&BV is one of the more accessible vegan cookbooks out there. The book doesn't rely heavily on ingredients like these and, besides, most can be found at Whole Foods Markets, which are more ubiquitous than ever. What I liked most about the recipes I read through and tried was how healthy the focus was. Dreena keeps it simple and focused on feeding yourself well without too much fuss. Even the sauces and gravies recommended to season things up rely on maple syrup instead of refined sugar, for instance. I feel like I could eat anything from this book and not have to worry that I'm splurging all the time. My wife and tried a few entrees, including the Quinoa Chickpea Confetti Casserole (p. 140) with Balsamic Maple Sauce (p. 76). All I can say about that sauce is, move over teriyaki! It really made the dish. While the casserole itself is hearty and filling, it was relatively plain, but the recommended sauce knocked it out of the park. I also really enjoyed the Roasted Red Kuri Squash with Gnocchi (p. 141). We did have one hiccup on this one, as the directions offer a range of 1-3 pounds of squash without adjusting the recipe according to the amount you have on hand. For people as literal as my wife and I, this meant that our 1 pound of squash was slightly overwhelmed by the rest of the recipe, particularly the lemon. However, it was still really good (we used linguine instead of gnocchi), and the Back to Basics Balsamic Vinaigrette (p. 77) we had with our side salad was the best I've ever had from a recipe, so I think we're finally ready to stop buying bottles of dressing. ED&BV is definitely another everyday classic. I know my wife and I will be exploring this book from cover to cover for a long time to come, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to develop his or her repertoire of tasty, wholesome dishes you can feel good about, both for the animals and for your health. With the recent release also of Veganomicon and The Joy of Vegan Baking, 2007 has proven to be a watershed year for vegan cookbooks. And, hey, just in time for the holidays! I've tried four recipes from Dreena's dessert section in Eat, Drink, & Be Vegan and they've all been perfect. I really like her recipes because she doesn't rely heavily on convenience products like egg-replacer powder or soy margarine. Her desserts are also the healthiest I've come across of any vegan cookbook, not to mention mostly wheat-free. This cookbook has introduced me to the wonder that is spelt flour -- it tastes great in her Maple Pecan Sticky Blondies and the Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookies. I think I'll be stuck on this cookbook for quite a while!

This book is a delightful addition to my collection. If nothing else get this book for the "you got peanut butter in my chocolate" cookies. Delish! All of my anti-vegan friends fell in live and had to bite their words! There is a little something for everyone in this book, as well as a recipe for every occasion.

This was such a yummy and eeeaaasssyyyyyy veggie burger! And the tip to eat in a pita is brilliant. I loathe when the burger squishes out the back and sides, the pita bread makes it perfect. Dreena really hit on a good one with this. I'd never cooked with hemp seeds (even with all my intentions to do so) and the flavor was great. Nutty and hearty, especially knowing how good it is for you.
The other winner, so far? Potato squashers. WHO KNEW that after all the years of potato eating, we were doing it all wrong? Apparently, Dreena Burton! This book is full of sophisticated tasting, easy-to-prepare, kid and parent friendly food. There is always a sauce or a dressing or a side that catches my eye, and I just happen to have everything on hand. I recommend this book to friends with children, and to people who are looking specifically for whole-foods cooking books. Though there are some tofu and tempheh recipes, the stars in this book are the beans, veggies, legumes, and (of course) desserts. It's also got lots of wheat-free options, which more people are wanting. Bravo! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-11-22 13:55:27 EST)

Hooray - Dreena has done it again! An entire hummus chapter & cookies, cookies everywhere! But what I really appreciate about this book is its wheat free options. Being vegan & struggling with wheat sensitivities can be disheartening & tasteless, but Dreena's recipes are easy, helpful & versatile. Thanks, Dreena!

ED&BV is full of delicious recipes, and best of all we haven't had to make several grocery trips to make them, the ingredients are almost all in our cupboards. Vegans & non-veggies alike loved the coconut cake we made for a birthday party and the soups are divine. The coco-cocoa chili is inspired. Another gold star for Dreena!

I was so happy to receive ED&BV in the mail and I haven't been disappointed. I appreciate how Dreena makes a few ingredients taste fabulous and I also appreciate the many wheatfree recipes. I've loved everything I've made so far, and I haven't seen one recipe I wouldn't try. I can especially recommend the Super Charge Me Cookies!

I ordered this book and got it over a week ago. I've looked over the whole thing and I'm happy with the purchase. I'll be trying some recipes this week. It's a nice book and has some great sounding recipes. Well worth the money! I think vegetarians and vegans would be happy with this purchase.

Everything for the Creamy Basil Dressing to the rich and decadent Chocolate Pumpkin Pie is worth your time to create healthy & delicious meals for your family. Thanks for all your hard work Dreena! (By the way, I cook for an omnivore husband and 4 year old daughter that both love Dreena's recipes!)

I've praised some vegan cookbooks in the past because I didn't know any better. Either I thought the recipes were good because I didn't have a frame of reference, or because I was just happy there was another vegan cookbook, period (who cares if the food is only so-so?).
Thankfully, times are a changin'. Vegan cookbooks are taking over the world. Eat, Drink, Be Vegan, for sure, is not just fantastic in an ordinary way. This is the kind of food that makes cooking a real pleasure. The recipes are mostly simple and uncomplicated, not time-consuming and the results are always extraordinarily delicious. My current obsession is the Thai Chick-Un Pizza; it's otherworldy good. And it's unbelievably simple. It was so good, mesmerizing, that I ate it for breakfast. Dare I mention the Creamy Banana Pancakes? What about the fact that they have coconut milk in them? I'll admit that I have a ridiculously large vegan cookbook collection, even though some of the cookbooks have gathered more dust than use. Eat, Drink, Be Vegan, I already know it, is destined to become a classic, if not your favorite cookbook. The best and most sincere compliment I can offer this collection of recipes: I always walk away from this food not only satisfied, but really(!) looking forward to the leftovers (if there are any). And I hate leftovers. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-11-09 07:53:08 EST)

Dreena has done it again. Her third cookbook is amazing and provides so many different types of dishes, some traditional and some brand new. She has a whole chapter devoted to hummus and provides her own unique variations to please all palates.
The book is great because all the recipes are simple, healthy, and tasty. Plus if you are allergic to one of the ingredients in a recipe or simply don't like the taste of an ingredient, she offers many possible substitutes. Dreena takes into consideration different allergies and dietary sensitivities that people might have. Plus, if you have a question about any of her recipes or ingredients you can ask her on her blog and she will quickly respond. If you are a vegan and need some healthy, tasty and simply recipes to turn to, or if you need kid friendly recipes, or maybe you want to show people that vegan sweets and treats can taste good- you must buy Eat Drink and Be Vegan. Please do yourself the Favor whether you are vegan or not- this book is awesome! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-31 10:32:25 EST)
