Excellent reference for travellers. We use it all the time, especially to locate a motel about an hour or so before we plan to stop driving for the day.

I've used several editions of "The Next Exit". It is very easy to use, organized by State & Interstate Highway Number. When you are searching for a motel or gas station in the middle of Montana late at night you will love this book. It lets you know how many miles to the nearest motel, gas station or restaurant by brand. The only way to improve it would be to give the phone numbers for the hotels. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who travels our interstate highways.

I own this book and just bought it for a family member who is doing a "Bucket List" trip around the US. They keep calling to tell us how helpful it has been with hotel and gas listings. We use this book in our motor home. Traveling the interstate, and looking for gas in place we don't call home it is invaluable to us. We recommend this book highly.

I bought this book for good friends who were taking their first RV trip from Southern Missouri to New England! They used it from Day One - For food stops and even an emergency stop. They were so pleased with the book and I was glad to have chosen such a great gift!

We have used this book for a few years and bought this most recent copy for friends getting ready to leave on a car trip. If you've ever taken a road trip and asked "how far to the next rest stop?" or "where's the next Cracker Barrel?" then this book is for you! Actually makes traveling on the seemingly endless interstates halfway bearable. Buy it, you won't regret it :)

This book is terrific and a huge help in planning a trip. I am currently planning trips both East and West this year, and this book takes any insecurity of knowing where things are out of the planning. Huge help.
The reviewer who said the book was only good for East to West or North to South is wrong. He said the mile markers were only for East to West. Maybe he didn't realize that the mile markers are the same going both directions. For instance, MM 203 is the same, regardless what direction you are going. It's easy and simple to use the book for either way. I'd recommend this book to anyone planning a road trip. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-11 02:37:19 EST)

We travel between Minnesota and S.W. Florida twice a year and there is nothing to compare with the "Next Exit" book. We pulled a camper a couple years and located the campgrounds along the way. Very helpful now with the RV friendly gas stations, restaurants, etc. printed in red. We have used it to find gas stations, motels and auto repair stores, rest areas, restaurants, etc. There are many areas along our route where gas stations appear few and far between but can always locate them by a quick check by exit #. Very helpful is the indication of the direction off the exit. The only other book we need is the "Traveling with your Pet Book" (for pet friendly motels and phone numbers)and, of course, a map - and we are good to go. I advise checking the route and making notations as to where highways cross or run together and the next page you need to go to. Highliters are great! Wonderful book and it is a permanent fixture in our auto. Thanks, Donna

Do not travel without this book, unless you have time to waste looking for places to refuel your car, your stomach, or your backsides. dbw

Purchased this book just before our month long cross-country trip (May 9 - June 7) towing our 18' travel trailer. It was very helpful. Second would be Trailer Life, Woodall's and finally AAA Tour Books.
Read the reviews before purchase, had no trouble using the information whatever direction we were going. After all, it's not rocket science or brain surgery. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-23 05:15:19 EST)

We just came back from vacation, this book came in very handy when we wanted to settle in for the night. We would look to see if the hotel we wanted was at that exit and what restaurants were around it.

It's a shame that other BETTER interstate travel guides are out-of-print and thus not 'updated', such as the original "The Next Exit Guide: North Atlantic Region." The Next Exit Guide: North Atlantic Region was much more advanced-ahead of its time, organized by interstate rather than by state, had boat loads more information (contact, phone #, points of interest, etc). Even with some non-updated information, I find it still is better. And then I use this book as a backup for changes.

My husband and I love this book. We travel in the winter and find this to be so helpful as we travel on interstates mostly. There are no guesses as to what's at an exit. We know!! We had a 2000 version and found we needed to get the newer book. It's an invaluable tool.

My husband is a long-haul truck driver. He uses this book every single day to help him know where he can pull of, what food is available, truck information, flat repair, etc. It is absolutely priceless to him!

This book tells what is at each exit. Haven't tested it out yet but do believe it will be a big help while going on vacation with our travel trailer.

I rate this product a "FUNK". This means that the product is not what one
expects. The problem?: The direction that the book avails info for ONLY goes from East to West direction or North to South. If you want the mile markers from West to east you are out of luck, they are not there. If you are going from East to west its wonderful. So the book is of NO VALUE to go from West to East. I emailed the company but they would not respond. I was ready to purchase another book for the West to East mile markers and/or South to North also but ALAS they probably dont have it. Maybe this is why they dont respond. T (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-14 11:18:48 EST)

I just purchased my 3rd year copy. We have a longer 5th Wheel, and I hate to have to turn the thing around if we miss an exit. It is pretty reliable and very good on listing rest stop highway markers, dumps, diesel fuel stations with high clearances, etc. Definately worth having.

The book came very fast. It's pages are very light, like a phone book.
Some of the print is in red ink and half of my book the ink is very light and hard to read (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-03-07 19:35:31 EST)

I purchased this book for a summer vacation road trip and found it to be VERY useful. I had to use it again recently and was able to find the nearest Walmart, for an emergency we had, in a matter of seconds. I highly recommend this book to anybody that travels the highways as much as I do.

I previously used The Exit Authority and then switched to The Next Exit on a friends recommendation. This book tops The Exit Authority times 10. This book has saved me so much time and energy in my travels. Very well put together, and clearly updated regularly. I would recommend this book to anyone who travels even a little. I put it right next to my road map!

Awesome book. Just bought it on a whim a few years ago, and I have put it on my wish list every year since. This book is updated each year, so I know I'm getting the most current information. Kudos to the author; a great idea well executed. Don't know what I ever did without it!

As soon as I saw a friend's copy, I knew I had to have this book. It lists exactly what is at every exit on every interstate in the US. The information is arranged by state, then the Interstate #, and the exit #s and then by category: gas, food, service, shopping, other, etc so you know right where to look to find it quickly. If you do any amount of traveling you will find this book useful, especially for RVer's and truckers, and even if you also use a GPS navigator. The 24 hr truck stops, WalMarts and Cracker Barrels are highlighted in red. Rest areas are in bold type so you can find them with a quick glance.
I can't count how many times I was out of town and wanted to know where is the next rest area, WalMart, motel, truck stop, gas station, or restaurant. Now I can find them at a glance. No more wild goose chases late at night driving down a long dark country road in the middle of nowhere with a near empty gas tank and looking for a gas station that is open. Just a quick glance at the book and I know the closest exit with 24 hour service, and I can decide if I need to pull off now or can wait until another exit. When I needed to meet a contact in Florida, she suggested "that rest area on I95 near Orlando". A quick glance at the book showed me it was at exit 227, South Bound. No worry about missing the signs or trying to decide how long it would take to get there - I just counted the mile markers until I arrived. I've only had the book for about two weeks, and feel it has already paid for itself with the convenience of knowing just what is at "The Next Exit". My four children can't make it ten minutes down the road without needing a bathroom. This guide has made pleasant, low-stress road trips with them possible. The information is accurate, well presented, and up-to-date. Now we can stop at EVERY bathroom on the road.
The thin paper isn't an issue for a publication with information that goes out of date so quickly. (Which is why phone books are made out of it.) If the paper is a problem, you can get a membership with their website and print out just what you need for each trip. I would recommend this to anybody who's taking a road trip on the interstates. Especially if you periodically need to pee. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-20 05:15:19 EST)

If you driving long distances to strange places....and
If you don't have one of those GPS devices that tell you where you are and what is ahead, this is the book for you! It does an excellent job of telling you where the gas stops are, truck stops, bathrooms, car dealerships, restaurants, motels, etc. Almost more than you'll need most of the time. It pretty much lists all the main roads in the USA, and what exactly is off that Next Exit that you may be looking for. Extremely useful if you are night traveler. We first purchased The Next Exit when we bought our motor home. It was helpful to know which exits were RV friendly. We have found some errors in the old book. Hopefully those are corrected in the new edition.

We couldn't travel without the Next Exit. For those who want the information state by state, the Next exit is available on their web site. Then you can print out the information in any format you choose. Also, the paper makes the shipping costs affordable. We love it.

We keep this handy in our 25' RV. We can look ahead to find the type of exit we need. e.g. One with lots of stores (walmart, groceries, etc) or one with hardly anything - maybe a few gas stations - to gas up and park quietly while eating lunch in the rv. You can tell exactly where a populated area is by how many items are listed. For families with kids, it shows fast food places with indoor playplaces. I think it is an excellent value for the money.
