This book is worth its weight in gold for anyone in the wine business, or anyone who has an interest in wine that goes beyond the basics. This annual volume covers the odd Jura & Savoie regional wines of France, British wines, the wines of Luxembourg, and trends in winemaking, wine consumption, and marketing worldwide. It's not for everyone, if you're happy with the wines in your local store and have no need for a larger picture (and this isn't a criticism, wine should be mostly about the drinking of the wine after all) then this is just a mess of information you do not need.

The publisher, DK, has dropped the series after the 2009 Wine Report book. There won't be a 2010 guide, but there's a good chance that someone will pick it up again for 2011. We can hope!

Some may not understand how vital this book it to professionals in the industry. While it may not be ideal for the novice it should be required reading for anyone with a professional interest in the wine industry! Especially great for Master of Wine and Master Sommelier candidates.

An absolute must have for anyone in pursuit of up to date information regarding harvests, legislative changes, breakthroughs in viniculture and viticulture, new business endeavors or consolidations, auction prices, wine and health, and on, and on. I've purchased this text religiously since its first publication, thoroughly enjoying cracking the cover and reading about recent industry news. Granted, I may not agree with every contributing writer 100%, but if you consider the return on investment of accessible and formatted information, all for the price of around $15, there is NO better annual text in publication today.

I can't say enough about the value of this book. I buy it EVERY year as as addendum to Stevenson's Wine Encyclopedia, and also to read about up and coming producers from all over the world. If your passionate about, and want to stay on top of the fast ever changing world of wine...buy and read this book.

The Wine Report is an excellent professional reference. Every Fall I pre-order the next edition to ensure I keep up-to-date with the wine world. The Wine Report is not something I would recommend for most consumers, however, it is a MUST HAVE for all sommeliers or avid enthusiasts.

Without a doubt, each vintage of Stevenson's Wine Report is an indispensable resource for wine novices and pros alike. I have found no better source of information that is accurate, concise and unbiased that gets you down into the great regions of the world with class, depth and detail. It would take countless hours of research, translation and tasting to compile enough notes that would go into half of this book. Along with the Wine Atlas and the Oxford Companion, this is a must have addition to any serious student's wine library.

(Hide Review...)  Well worth it, but..
Reviewer Permalink
This is a fantastic resource, but looks at the wine world from a somewhat different perspective that most Americans are used to. Scandinavian and English vintage ratings - you've got it. One region in the US has one rating for vintages from
NY to Virginia to Michigan.

Hey, but for the price? It's worth it, particularly for the French, Italian, and Spanish ratings and commentaries. And it's great fun to read about, I don't know, Scandinavian and English wines. And from lonely outposts in France. Then there's Hungary, and Austria, Greece, non-port Portugal. You get the idea.

I'll get the 2010 when it comes out.

I have been buying "the Wine Report" from its first release and it has been an invaluable resource. The depth of the annual coverage throughout the world is very impressive and was very important as a preliminary research before going on a recent wine trip.
This annual title should be in any wine professional's book shelf along such others as the Oxford Companion, Sotheby's Encyclopedia or the World Atlas of Wine. As any wine professional knows any wine book is out of date the moment it is printed. This series is extremely helpful in keeping the ever evolving information current.

This is an amazing book, that keeps you up to date on the current wine news and laws. There is no question this book expects you to have a strong base of information. ToM Stevenson brings some of the best wine minds together each year to compile a wonderfully detailed look at the vintage and the trends.

(Hide Review...)  Hands down the best resource for up to date information on an a complicated and ever-changing industry
Reviewer Permalink
The Wine Report is the must buy book of the year... every year for the wine professional. In an industry where books are quickly outdated and only revised every few years it is the single source of the most important updates and changes in wine. The authors are the most respected authorities in their subject categories and it's incredible to have them all working on one publication. The way I look at it is this: Any industry that requires continued study requires a journal to keep them informed and up to date... be it Medicine, Law, or whatever... this is the only one for wine and it is superb. The poor review was clearly someone who is not a wine professional and does not need to stay on the top of their industry and were unable to digest the technical information contained within. This book may not be for everyone... but I highly recommend it for wine professionals.

(Hide Review...)  Great resource the professional or savvy connoisseur
Reviewer Permalink
Year after year the Wine Report is a go to for wine professionals seeking the best compilation of understanding for the diverse world of wine. The book gives an up-to-date understanding of wine laws, trends, and vintage conditions that could not otherwise be found with out hundreds of hours of research (and more accurately detailed). For the savvy consumer it can provide an understanding of style and type that could take thousands of dollars of actual consumption of otherwise gain. It may be a bit to bite off if you are just getting into wine, but it provides recommended producers in a variety of price points to get you started.

(Hide Review...)  What a waste!
Reviewer Permalink
Maybe for some wine lovers this book has value, but for me it was a waste. Let me count the ways:
1. Terrible type color and background so the book is very difficult to read. Which would be worth the effort if it were saying something, but
2. What is it saying? I can't really determine that.
