Her breathless kiss haunts him...
Bowen MacRieve of the Lykae clan was nearly destroyed when he lost the one woman meant for him. The ruthless warrior grew even colder, never taking another to his bed -- until a smoldering encounter with his enemy, Mariketa the Awaited, reawakens his darkest desires. When sinister forces unite against her, the Highlander finds himself using all his strength and skill to keep her alive. His slow, hot touch is irresistible... Temporarily stripped of her powers, Mari is forced to take refuge with her sworn adversary. It's rumored that no one can tempt Bowen's hardened heart, but soon passion burns between them. Though a future together is impossible, she fears he has no intention of letting her go. No deed is too wicked for her seduction... If they defeat the evil that surrounds them, can Mari deny Bowen when he demands her body and soul -- or will she risk everything for her fierce protector? |

I have been reading romance novels since I was 15, so a good 20 years now. In my mind nothing like a cup of tea and a good romance novel to escape and unwind at the end of a day.
Just to give a sample of my taste, other authors I enjoy are: Jen Holling, Connie Brockway, Johanna Lindsey, Julie Garwood, Christina Dodd, just to name a few. This entire series is such a page turner. I had a hard time putting any of the titles down. More evenings than I care to admit I stayed up way to late "just to read one more chapter". I loved Bowen from A hunger like no other and was thrilled to see him getting a book of his own. Wow what a twist in this one. I was on the edge of my seat. I loved the supporting demons and was glad to see that Cade got his own story as well. Love him! The entire series is fast and there is not a lot of review of what happened in a prior book. You open the book and off you go. These are not slow moving. I laughed, I cried, I blushed. Boy Ms. Cole writes some steamy scenes. Wow! And I am amazed that nothing repeats. Each book is so different, the plots are so different and the way the main characters relate is so different. Yes they do all have hansom men and lovely ladies. But the dynamic relationship between the main characters is simply fire from page 1 to the end. Out of all my years reading romance. I have never read modern romance before. I can say without a doubt that these are the best romance books I have read and that is truly saying a lot considering how many authors works sit on my shelf. This is my favorite book in the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole. I just really love the Lykaes that Kresley writes about, they are so likeable. Mari, the heroin was so cool! Talk about some great love scenes too, mmmm mmmm good! This was Kresley's last really great book in the series. Dark Needs at Nights Edge and Desires After Dusk were just ok. I think she is cranking out to many books now and isn't able to take the care with her writings. I don't like the new covers either.

Okay, this is my 3rd read in the Immortals after Dark Series. LOVED LOVED LOVED the first book, the 2nd "ech" not so much. Bowen and Mari's story brought the series back to life for me. In the second book I had no interest in the "amazing race" parrallel, skipped over a lot of those pages, however in this 3rd installment the race came to life for me because of Bowen and Mari and also the comraderie shared between Mari's 6 protectors whilst on their amazing journey. There were so many twists and turns and treats in this book, the fate of Mari's parents, Mariah and her story, and the return of beloved characters.
Yes there were a few slow points but they didn't last long and the wait was rewarded. I am starting on the 4th book at the gym this evening. Its about one of the other vampire brothers of the horde. I must confess though that I do like the Lykae men a lot more than the Vampire men.THEY CAN CHASE ME ANYTIME THEY WANT TO! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-03 09:09:26 EST)

Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night is Bowen and Mariketa's story and partly takes place at the same time as No Rest for the Wicked during the Talisman's Hie, so I think it would be helpful if you're familiar with that book before starting this one. Bowen if you remember was after the prize so he could go back in time and save his mate. During the Hie he trapped Mariketa and several other supernaturals. Unfortunately this has upset (to put it mildly) their supernatural races and is threatening to start a major interspecies incident. So it falls to Bowen to go and rescue Mariketa. But that's just the beginning.
The glue that holds this whole story together is Bowen and Mariketa's relationship. There's quite a bit of other external stuff going on - The Talisman's Hie, interfering Valkyries, lots more intriguing hints dropped about other characters - mainly the proper introduction of Rydstrom and Cade and who exactly is stalking Regin? Their relationship basically starts off as a confrontation and though they have a chemistry between them Bowen is far too caught up in the need to win the Hie and save his mate. So he betrays Mariketa and traps her to prevent her continuing with the Hie. Not the best way to start a courtship. It's only after he goes back to rescue her and they have to work together to escape the jungle that the spark between them becomes something more. But the course of their love isn't going to run smoothly, just when it seems everything has come into place for them the past rises up to bite Bowen and he has to decide who and what he really wants. I like Bowen (more than Mariketa). He's one of those characters who doesn't really have a filter between his brain and his mouth. Maybe this is a Lykae trait as I seem to remember Lachlain from A Hunger Like No Other being similar. When he feels it is deeply and completely. He never gives up. Mariketa is young and in some ways immature. She lies to Bowen about how often she's using her powers even though it's dangerous for her to do so. Some of her behaviour is understandable. He wants her to contain an essential part of herself - akin to her asking him to give up his animal instinct. But sometimes in romances you feel like shouting at the protagonists - just talk to one another! Yet despite all the confrontations in their relationship there's also something warm and fuzzy about it. For me Kresley Cole has improved with every book in this series, certain scenes she writes so well. She puts you through the wringer, then just when you think the characters have finally got it together she takes it away from you, and makes the protagonists work even harder for their happy ending. And she never lets her protagonists say I love you before time. Even though there are confusions, eventually her characters talk to one another and when they finally open up it feels real and it works. This is one of my favourite series. Recommended. This was a fun read for me. I enjoyed all of the characters and the quirky way the leading male and female played off of each other. Kresley Cole has a unique paranormal writing style that I enjoy very much. Though I wish she would have given Bowen more depth so I could have felt more in touch with his immortality and the dark emptyness he had felt and battled with for so long. I can't say this book kept me staying up for hours just to devour it... it didn't but it was a good read. I recently purchased (A hunger like no other) and look forward to starting it.

Bowen MacRieve, who got the shaft in the second novel is the hero of the third book in the Immortals After Dark series. Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night begins during the events of No Rest for the Wicked. Bowen traps the witch Mariketa, along with two demons and three witches, in the tomb of the incubi. He realizes too late that the six could not get out on their own and Mariketa now has good reason to hate him. Yet he reacts as if she is his mate; impossible, since his mate Mariah died two centuries ago.
Bowen and Mari are a good match. She's modern, spunky, and does not put up with his tragic woe-is-me attitude. She's exactly what he needs to reenter the world of the living. Bowen helps Mari with her powers, particularly by giving her a tie to the real world. Most of the book is Mari and Bowen getting to know each other as they tromp through the jungle. The House of Witches threatened Bowen if he didn't return Mari to them by a certain date. Of course, Rydstrom, Cade, and the elves hike with them. There are definitely some scenes to get one excited about Dark Desires After Dusk - Cade is awesome. Actually, so are the other four. They were a good sort with which to get trapped in a tomb of incubi. Their camaraderie with Mari shows as much chemistry as her relationship with Bowen. Bowen and Mariketa both change for the better due to their love. Bowen loses the desperation that drove him in the Talisman's Hie and faces the fact he never loved Mariah. Mariketa, like Emma, reaches her potential and faces her destiny. Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night delivers solid romance with quite a bit of action, but also some conversation. This is a really great series.
Loved the first book, very hot. The second book had a lot more humor in it. And this book, just sizzled (like the first book). Great characters, variety of, great building of sexual tension. And the characters are in total denial that they're attracted to each other, which is fun for the reader. Plus there a ton of action, you were never quite sure what was going to happen. Really really good! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-30 08:44:02 EST)

Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night (The Immortals After Dark, Book 3)
This is the 3rd book in the Immortals After Dark series. I read the 1st two last year. I love Kresley Cole's writing and I liked this book but not as good as the 1st two. This story revolves around a witch - Mari who is suppose to be the most powerful of her kind but her powers are unstable; and Bowen of the Lykae (wolf) clan. They are sworn enemies that enter a competition for different personal gains. They form a brief alliance to win a prize but Bowen traps her in a cave to delay her in the competition but before she is trapped Mari cast a spell on him that makes him mortal. While she is trapped she can't stop thinking about Bowen and Bowen can not stop thinking about her. Bowen believes she has cast a spell on him that makes him think she is his mate. They end up going through several interesting trials where Bowen ends up realizing it is not a spell she really is his mate. Mari is not so easy to believe. Cole did a nice job of bringing in the characters of the first two books and you can definitely read this as a stand alone. Cole filled this book with seduction, love, sex and action. The nice thing about Cole's work is that you can actual relate to the characters or the situation even when the book is based on supernatural characters. I found myself wanting to be seduced by Bowen or sometimes wishing I was Mari. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-28 08:42:59 EST)

This is the second of Kresley Cole's books that I've read and once again, you gotta love the folks of the Lore! Another fast paced read with interesting characters. It's hard to put it down. Bowen the tormented Lykae cousin to Lachlain from "A Hunger Like No Other", seeks to win a contest so he can go back in time and save his long lost love. But a witch gets in his way and in his heart-- Mariketa -The Awaited. The characters are exciting and you won't be able to put this one down! I highly recommend it! Good reading! It's a keeper!

This book's a roller coaster of excitement, great character development, and one of the best plots I've read in what I'd classify as a "true" paranormal romance in a long time. "Wicked Deeds" opens with a tie-in to the second book in the "Immortals After Dark" series, "No Rest for the Wicked". The Hie, a legendary contest for immortal warriors, is still in full swing, and we glimpse the goings-on of a few competitors met in the previous novel. Witch-hating Bowen, a Lykae (werewolf) male, lost his only predestined mate centuries ago. Denying himself the pleasures of women ever since, he stays faithful to his lost Mariah until mortal, beautiful witch Mariketa crosses his path during the very contest that could win him back Mariah. But when he fails to win the challenge and thus loses his mate a second time, it seems that Fate has given him a chance for happiness again -- his Instinct roars that Mariketa too is his. But this is nearly impossible by all the supernatural Lore's beliefs -- or is it? As they trek across Central America, young Mariketa's powers grow every step of the way -- as does the pair's attraction and bond. But Fate alone cannot keep wolf and witch together, it seems, when the rest of the world -- and even their own personalities seem set to rip through their tenuous hold on one another. This book moves quite a bit slower than the other two by Cole I've read thus far, but it's definitely worth it. The plot's complex and twisted, and by the end of the book, you're wholly satisfied with the plot. There are a few scenes that felt a bit extraneous -- either that or a bit rushed -- but aside from this, it's quite good. The characters, especially Mariketa, are more realistic than I'd have expected. She's unsure of herself and has faults enough to shatter her attractive form and pretty face; she's jealous and possessive, and a bit unforgiving, tempermental at times. But who's perfect? She's more likable to readers this way. More world-building -- awesome world-building. More characters I want to see explored, more history revealed. Give it to me! I certainly liked "Wicked Deeds" as much as "No Rest", though for different reasons. It doesn't quite have the same ever-blasting scorching sex or multitude of locales, but it still kept my attention very well, which is saying something about the writing. All in all, I heartily pass this to anyone with a very glowing recommendation. Beautiful, Cole. You've written an exceptional and touching novel, something I would rarely say. 9/10 (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-13 08:29:25 EST)

Third installment of The Immortals After Dark series. Kresley Cole writes great paranormal romance and she did not disappoint here. You will fall in love with the tortured and guilt-ridden Bowen. Mariketa is strong without becoming one of those cliche stubborn heroines. I enjoyed this book through the end, and was even suprised by a few plot twists. I recommend this entire series.

Young still-mortal witch, Mariketa the Awaited, feels the need to prove herself in a dangerous contest between the immortals to find a powerful talisman. Sparks fly between her and Bowen MacRieve, a Lykae (lycanthrope) who happens to hate witches. He believes she's cast a spell on him--and indeed she has, but only when he seals her and other contestants in a cave full of dead but extremely upset incubi who immediately set upon them. To Bowen's credit, he didn't think they'd be stuck in the cave for long--and he's just too intent on winning the prize which will enable him to go back in time and save the one love of his life who died nearly two centuries before. Eventually, of course, these two get together and sparks still fly...
I have to admit that I have a pet peeve about characters who speak in a strong accent, and Bowen's speech is a "Scots burr" replete with "no' ," "doona,"dinna,"o'," "lass," "canna," etc. I have nothing against accents (I find a true Scots accent quite fine--I've lived there and had a boyfriend there, etc.). But dialog that attempts to incorporate accents can be extremely annoying to me, and somewhat demeaning, since to the speaker, it's not an accent but the ordinary way of speaking--it's everyone else with the accent! Then there's the set-up of this tale... I'm not sure about most people, but even if some guy didn't intend to trap me forever in a cave/tomb for weeks with ghost incubi that captured me--particularly just after he'd kissed me... I'm pretty sure that'd be a deal-killer. Plus the fact that he hates witches and magic, which is what the heroine is and does. Plus the fact that he'd rather have his dead love back than start up a relationship with her... Doesn't anyone have a healthy dose of self-esteem these days? Why does love conquer that, too? OK, he's hot and he eventually comes around... I was happier with the two after that was all out of the way and the rest of the adventure and their relationship continued. But the way it was set up and the way the pair of lovers came around to an understanding just bothered me. I felt it could have been set up better and more convincingly. I realize these elements are totally personal, but as I am the one reviewing, I can't really ignore commenting on them. Overall, it wasn't bad. It kept my interest despite the little annoyances, and I did enjoy reading it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-26 08:32:05 EST)

I had waited a while for this book, Kresly Cole is a promsing new writer, and the other books in this series are good reads, but the best is the first. Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night is the story of Bowen and Mari. Bowen is a warewolf who had lost his mate serval ages past, and is in a competion to win a magical key that will allow him to go back in time, the key can be used twice before it's powers are expired. Of course he wants to go back in time to save his mate before she dies. Mari wants to win the competion to prove herself to her peers. Bowen and Mari meet and Bowen does some nasty trickery to ensure that he wins.
I found this book lacking, the action sequences in the book fizzled out, and she did not through explain what was happing and left me (the reader) grappling to put things together after certain action bits. People from her other books are mentioned in the story, and so the series continues. I am glad that I bought this and shared it with my girlfriends so that they did not have to purchase it. I have high hopes for the next book in the series. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-22 08:29:28 EST)

I totally enjoyed this book, and wait with baited breath for the next one, but I have to say that I was a little disappointed. Now that we're three books into the series it would be nice to learn a little more about the creatures and cultures of the Lore. There was a bit of that when Mari was explaining about the Witches' culture to the others, but I definitely would like to hear more.
The creativity that Ms. Cole is showing in her world-building is one of the reasons I like these books so much, as well as her willingness to buck convention. The heroine is a Norse Pagan? (Or Wiccan, in this case?) Thank goodness! It's really nice to read something other than the same old watered-down stuff for the conservative Mid-Western mindset. It's a romance novel; it doesn't need to be approved by the Kansas School Board to make sure the content is sufficiently mainstream. I'd like to know more about Lykae culture, and perhaps a little less emphasis on the whole 'soul-mate' thing that is so pervasive in fantasy romances. All in all, better than most of what's out there in this genre, but weaker than the last two. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-05 22:41:03 EST)

I was hoping for more, or I just am not into this genre. I was waiting for the lead female character to say, "Dude, your fangs are uber sharp and it's just not my thing." I know the author tries to mix old stuff with modern things in society, but it doesn't work for me. "Dude, it's just too uber weird."

Kresley Cole just keeps getting better and better in her Immortal After Dark Series. This third books is excellent and actually takes place during part of the last story. This tells a wonderful story about Bowen...a very sexy and powerful Lykae ( a werewolf) and Mariketa the Awaited ( a witch). Although fierce compeditors for the Hie ( an immortal verisons Amazing Race)these two heat up! Mari is witty, funny and a smart mouth witch who was more than a match for a sexy Scottish werewolf!
We get a great deal of other loveable characters of LachIan the King Werewolf and his Vampire Bride, Emma. Of course my favorites are the Valkyrie who are not only sexy self assured women, but warriors willing to take on any immortal. From the lovable confusing seer of Nix...to the car throwing Reign, they are so funny as they battle and come together as the Horde, Lykae, Vampires, Deamons, Nyphs, Sirens, Valkrie, Wraiths, Furies and others await for the Accension. I cannot wait for another installment espcially of the story of Reign and her Besserker. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-05 22:41:03 EST)

Thankfully this book is more remniscent of a Hunger Like No Other and not No Rest For the Wicked. Thankfully the ridiculous Talisman's Hie (an Immortal version of The Amazing Race) is only a tiny portion of the storyline, and thankfully this story does not focus on a member of Valkyrie race.
This story focuses on Bowen who was a fascinating secondary character in A Hunger Like No Other. He is mourning the loss of his mate when he comes across Mariketa who is a witch and wonders how he can be so entranced by this witch when his mate is dead. Bowen makes this book. He is extremely likable, devoted, protective, tough, and lovable. The ending is one that you'll never guess, and I was happy to see these two likable characters find love. I was so surprised at how much I loved this book. Yes, I liked the first 2 of the series very much and it is rare to get to the 3rd and like it even better, but I absolutely did. I couldn't put it down. The story between Bowen and Mariaketa is very complicated and challenged by a man who is haunted by his past and his lack of ability to censor what comes out of his mouth.
It makes the story that much better, because he realizes how much he is willing to do to make things work with Mari and it's endearing to see the inner turmoil as he battles his own predjudices for the woman he has come to love and admire. I've read reviewers complain about the "teen lingo" etc. ridiculous!! If you can understand a generational gap while speaking with your children or a teenager in a supermarket, it is not too complicated to understand it 2 or 3 times in a book. I love the other IAD books and was surprised that Wicked Deeds was not very exciting. The characters were kind of blah and the chemistry just wasn't there in my opinion. For an exciting and hot witch/vampire paranormal romance try Jen Holling's My Immortal Protector.

I was looking for a series to read after reading JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series and after reading a very helpful review on Amazon.com, I bought this series. The Immortals After Dark is my current favorite paranormal romance series. The stories are great and the "butt-kicking" heroines/mates are interesting and lovable. I also recommend JR Ward's the BDB series and Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Series.

Kresley Cole's third installment in her Immortals After Dark series is likely to be a favorite among fans. We met Bowen MacRieve in the first book, when his cousin Lachlain returned from years of torment at the hands of vampires. Bowen was miserable after losing his mate 180 years earlier. In the second book we see him again, still wasting away and unhappy but with a glimmer of hope as he competes in the Hie in hopes of winning the prize- a key that allows one to go back in time and retrieve someone. If you've not read the previous books please don't read further this is spoilery... alas, he does not win and is trapped for weeks after the final fight.
During his time trapped he suffers, his mind wandering back to the witch who cursed him earlier in the race. He and his kind have a natural distrust of witches but his runs deeper, the result of family trauma at the hands of one. Yet he continues to think of her, expecting that she and those with her have long since escaped the prison they were trapped in by him. When Lachlain collects him he is in bad shape, knowing without getting the witch to remove the curse he will die. Unfortunately she is still trapped and only he can go and rescue her to avoid bringing the wrath of the Lore down on the Lykae. Mariketta has been trapped, held captive by incubi for weeks while her companions are useless to help her. Alone in the dark she senses that Bowen has returned. Thus begin the adventures of Bowe and Mari as they work to get her to safety and struggle with the thought that Mariketta might have something to do with Bowen's dead mate, Mariah. Can he overcome his prejudice against witches and can she control the new power that is coming to her? You'll have to dig in to find out. This series gets better and better, though I have a couple of things I don't like. After three books the 'life-mate' concept is becoming really annoying. So is the possessive male chases unwilling female until she falls for him plot device. For once I'd like to see the female like the guy right off and not fight it. Once again, however, Cole has delivered a great adventure and this one actually surprised me with its plot twist. I was sure I'd figured it out and I was close but that one subtle thing flipped my theory on its ear which was refreshing! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-03-02 08:56:23 EST)

I loved Bowen in the first two books and thought his story would be great but I really felt let down. How many times could he insult her? As they sleep together for the first time he calls her by the wrong name then tells her, "oh well people make mistakes and she should just get over it." He never treated her like he cared about her feelings. He was a jerk most of the time. Cade was looking really good though, next to Bowen he seemed like the real hero. I love Kresley Cole, she's one of my favorite writers but this was not her best work.

This was a fantastic book to read with two engaging, complex characters. I guess a major reason why I love this book so much (other than the magic and romance mix) is because the all the characters are incredibly engaging and easy to connect with. Mariketa is similar to my age and has the kind of sense of humor and outlook that I can understand. Bowen is precisely the kind of man that I would love to have! He's fierce and protective...and a little bit broken, which make him all the more intriguing. The secondary characters are also just as engaging...Carrow, Regin, and even Nucking futs Nix are all characters that I REALLY hope to read more of in their very own books! Can't wait to read the next in the series!!

I enjoyed this book a lot, read it in one sitting, however, it was my least favorite in the series so far.
It seemed like Bowen and Mari were looking for excuses to hate each other... Maybe the author could have elaborated more on the horrors of being trapped in the cave, for example. That whole thing was not really fleshed out, yet it's the central reason Mari can't trust Bowen. Looking forward to more in this series! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-14 22:14:27 EST)

I liked this book. I liked from the moment I opened it, it was a page turner. I loved the characters. The only thing I did not like is the female characters family (for lack of a better term). To me when they spoke about her side of the family I got lost between all the characters and who was who.

Cole has done it again! She has written another novel that I just couldn't put down. I was wondering how she would incorporate the second novel into this one, but she pulled it off. I would recommend to anyone wanting to read this novel to at least read "No Rest for the Wicked" because it really sets up the Hie and Bowe's motivation for wanting to win.
The action just never seemed to slow down. And the twists and turns were amazing. I just kept saying, "Oh, no!" every time something unexpected happened. I really loved Bowe and his internal struggle with his loyalty. His mate died nearly 200 years ago and since Lykaes only get one mate in their lifetimes, he was quite surprised to be having feelings for Mari. Mari, on the other hand, always knew she liked Bowe (he is good looking after all;)), but is having a pretty hard time with the fact that he locked her in a crave with incubi (who apparently feed on a beautiful girl's sexual energy...needless to say, she was somewhat tortured). I actually liked Bowe and Mari's struggles with their feelings. They were just bristling with sexual tension and energy and it really shows. Great novel! I liked it better than "No Rest for the Wicked", but whereas "A Hunger Like No Other" had more sexual scenes, this had more action. Still I couldn't put it down! I loved this book. One I could not put down. It will be re-read over and over. It is nice to get started with another Paranormal series with different twist to it. The characters were so interesting and unique it really kept my attention, and I enjoyed meeting them!!!

Okay, this is the 3rd book from Ms. Cole's Immortals After Dark series. I've read the first 2 and liked both giving them 4 star ratings. But this book is way better than the first two books. This book is my favorite out of the 3. The book is a page turner, can't put down kind of book. The attraction between Bowen and Mari is intense and sexy. The book has you guessing all the time about what's going to happen next. Can't wait for the 4th book.

Lykae and Vampires and Valkyrie...OH MY! Kresley Cole is at her ABSOLUTE BEST in the Immortals After Dark Series. Fans of the third book in the MacCarrick brothers trilogy will LOVE this book! This paranormal and sometimes playful romance heats page after page with building romantic tension between the two characters and her books seem to be the best when the 'as-alpha-as-you-can-get' male love interest is reluctant and stubbornly refuses to reconcile (or even admit) his true feelings for the female love interest in the story. But when he comes around and realizes and recognizes his eternal mate...WHEW! This book has it all, suspense, drama, romance, playfulness, heat, passion and just plain excitement. One of my favorites in the series so far...

I loved "A Hunger Like No Other" about a werewolf. I hoped this would be as good, but it wasn't. Bowe kept blundering which I didn't like.
CAUTION SPOILERS: Four times when they were about to have sex, he said something which made her angry and she stomped off. Even though there might have been some logic for his confusion, it didn't make a good story. In general, I have liked this series and characters, so I plan to read her next one. Story brief: Bowe a werewolf is competing in a scavenger hunt against Mari the witch and other competitors. He falls in love with her, but he also had fallen in love with Mariah in 1827 who died. Since werewolves only have one true mate, he is confused, because he shouldn't have feelings for Mari. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: seven. Setting: mostly current day Guatemala, New Orleans and Scotland. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-07 09:32:24 EST)

I wonder as I close the third novel, Wicked deeds on a winter's night: Can the Immortal after dark series get any sweeter then this?
Bowen is desperate for the prize of The Hie, his heart knows and feels only one yearning: the return of his murdered mate Mariah to his life, to his body, to his heart. There isn't much that he wouldn't do to reach that goal. During the hunt for the artifacts Bowen meets a witch Mariketa and instantly passion ignites. Still Bowen focuses on his goal and raises his natural barrier of hate for witches and refuses his hunger which is thrumming through his veins. In the end he traps Mariketa with a few others in the cave not knowing something evil lurks in the dark.... In the next weeks both Bowen and Mariketa find out what torture can be like and through circumstances their paths cross again. Though it was a matter of weeks much has changed as the Lykae inside of Bowen roars: Mine his mind roars: No! Yet as they both travel they cannot escape their Destiny, whether it is one they experience together will demand the strength of love, the healing of hope and the power of forgiveness. With Bowen's story I was thrown back in to the last days of The Hie, only witnessing it from a different perspective this time. Though it felt a bit awkward in the beginning as I knew certain things would happen and the why of it all. It made me feel a bit torn up as Kresley Cole took me to the other side, to the side of Bowen. He grabbed my heart so early on in this series and with his story it only amplified. With a masterful skill in setting up a story and giving voice to devilishly good developed characters she gave me a tortured hero whom evolved throughout the story in such a man any reader of the paranormal genre would pine for. I could do no other then fall head over heels for him, his gruff attitude, his sometimes tactless behavior and then suddenly being utter seductive or thoughtful, all this reflected a great and powerful Lykae whom still made mistakes. Mistakes Mariketa could not always forgive so easily and there is one time that I actually empathized with Mariketa. She is an interesting mixture of vulnerability and awakening strength which made me attach myself to her with very little effort, I enjoyed her every moment as she had her own Destiny to grow towards. Mariketa and Bowen together are equal to a Bonfire, hot, scorching and consuming, teased with small erotic encounters they fill the pages with heated interaction and a sensuality that is tantalizing slow working its way up to crest in to a possessive passion that I longed for. The characterization skills and the way Kresley Cole makes it all come alive is something that I revel in as a reader. The investment of time she put in the research is evident in her world building, the set up of each novel in her Immortals after dark series, with each separate thread of Lore, Faction, The Hie and The Accession she interlaces it all into a spectacular background for the characters to shine in. With a solid quality and maybe with a quiet grace the author won me over instantly wanting the next entry in this series! Another thing that had me rapidly reading the pages is the plot in Wicked deeds on a winter's night, though the start of the book was a crossover with No rest for the wicked it quickly took me in to another direction with Mariketa being the accelerator. There are a few twists and turns that I just didn't see coming and had a huge effect on both me and the story. I dreaded the fact that the ending of this novel came into sight knowing that the author gave Bowen a worthy story and a incredible HEA. The only thing that lessens the frustration of ending it is that I can re-read it and that other novels are in the works. Immortals after dark is as addictive as dark chocolate! What's up with all the teenage-slang in this book?? I must be getting old because I didn't understand half of it. And then throw some scottish slang in there and I felt as if I needed a teenage/scottish dictionary to finish this book. I like it much better when she writes about vampires, demons etc., werewolves (especially scottish ones) are just yawn-inducing. Hopefully her next one is a little easier on the teenie slang....

Ok this is my first ever review, so be patient, also first time reading Kresley Cole's "The Immortals". I am an extremely picky reader, I love paranormal romance, mysteries, etc. This book blew me away, I really enjoyed Bowen and Mari's combatance. Pushing and pulling each other all over the place. Her independence and his hard head made for a wonderful read. I immediately ordered the first two books and can't wait to read them!!

I'd like to think that men in books really do exist. Unfortunately we all know that is not the case. This book was very fun, and was the first in the series that I've read. I actually bought the first 2 after reading this one. I am not normally a fantasy/romance reader, but I bought this to pass the time. The characters had character, and the story was very interesting. I didn't put it down, and that's what I like about a book.

Oh how I loved this book!!!
so I bought the first book a while ago and wasnt much into it, I am not sure why, it was good, just did not really do it for me. So I had the second and third but I waited till I had nothing left to read because of the first one. anyway this one is by far now one of my favorite books! Its quite neat cause it starts while still in the Hie of the second book. The relationship between the 2 people is just great. Bowen is just a great guy that is torn between 2 loyalties and quite confused as to having another mate and Mari is just a tough little girl that I just adore! This book has many great twist and turns and keeps you guessing till the end, lots of steamy romance and this is just a wonderful book I cant wait to read its next book :) (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-18 09:31:41 EST)

I expected more given the great premise and characters. There were perhaps too many characters and I didn't like the jungle setting. Too much time was spent on the setup with Bowen and Mari separated and when they finally did meet up again, the chemistry took a while to re-emerge. When the story finally picked up, I found myself liking Bowen much more than Mari, in part, because of the confusing state of Mari's magic and her lack of control and knowledge. Despite all of this I did enjoy the book, but Bowen and Mari's story deserved to be more interesting and just "more". I did like the mate twist.

I really enjoyed this book. I still like the 1st book (A hunger like no other) the best but I did like this book better than the second, it had more passion. I LOVE how Kresley Cole integrates just enough of the other characters we've seen the other books and her timeline of events flows and coordinates so smoothly with the other books. I can't wait for the next one!!

Kresley Cole has developed a world inhabited by all types of fantasy creatures including the witch heroine and the werewolf hero. They are both taking part in a race (The Hie) similar to the movie "It's a Mad Mad World." Although in this race you have creatures of all kinds including demons, elves, valkyries, witches, werewolfs, vampires, etc. The winner of the race will receive a magical key that allows the winner to go back in time twice. The hero wants to go back in time to save his one and only mate who died fleeing him and his amorous attentions when the moon was full one night. The heroine wants to win the race to prove that she is worthy of being a witch and just as good as everyone else. Bowen the werewolf is drawn to Mari the witch even though a werewolf always has only one mate. The pull is strong and something is causing it. Is it a spell the witch has cast? Or is she somehow his mate?
Fast paced and interesting. I hated to see it end and look forward to the next book in this series. The sex scenes are hot and the pages will sizzle. A definite must read. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-06 20:06:48 EST)

Kresley Cole can write very entertaining and sexy books whether they are paranormal or historical romances. Perhaps my expectations were too high for Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night, (handful of a title you go there) because this title falls a bit short of her past releases in this series favorite.
Bowe, the angsty (beyond angsty) Scottish werewolf hero has entered this immortal "Amazing Race" and seems to be the most prize hungry of them all. He can't get over the loss of his mate from many years ago and believes if he wins this prize, he will be able to go into the past and bring her back to life. But what this alpha male wasn't expecting was the witch Mari. Mari is till a mortal but a witch never the less and has entered this race for the same prize Bowe and the other creatures want. But when Bowe and Mari meet, the sparks fly. Well, they both can't stand each other but they can't understand why the keep lusting after each other. Bowe thinks Mari has put a spell on him to make him want her. Mari has no clue and just goes with the flow. Bowe ends up almost killing Mari and then saving her. Of course he wants her more than ever, at least in the elemental sense, and has the yearnings for her that only a mate can provide. But what about his deceased love who he thought was his true mate? And what is it with Mari's reflection that every time she looks in a mirror her reflection wants to either enthrall her or perhaps kill her? The sex between Bowe and Mari is scandalous and hot but every time they seethe with anger and disgust for each other, the story becomes tedious. Cole's trademark humor and wit seems to be missing also and the action becomes mundane after awhile. Some may enjoy the antics of Bowe and Mari, their lusts and trek through the jungles and evil that tends to come their way. I on the other hand wish Bowe would get over it and leave Mari alone. Angst filled characters can be put up to a point, but when the hero continues to whine (and I wanted to smack him to stop) and goes "woes me!" till the very end, I was ready to close this book and look for another. Katiebabs A Hunger Like No Other (The Immortals After Dark Series, Book 1) No Rest for the Wicked (The Immortals After Dark, Book 2) (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-11-30 13:02:56 EST)

I really loved the first two books of INMORTALS AFTER DARK, but this one was a disappointment. First, the whole book just seemed and excuse for having those two together. I mean, for me there wasn't an essence of a plot as in the previous two, where there was a plot and the characters interacted with it. In this one, the trek through the jungle was a way of having Mariketa and Bowen talking and doing things, but it doesn't feel real to me.
Then there's the problem of the characters: I liked Bowen and Mariketa far more on the previous book than in this one. In this book they spend their time as follows: - Mariketa thinks about Bowen, whether she likes him or not, deciding that she hates him but that she likes him, but she wants someone to say "I chose you". Then she thinks about her missing parents and her ex boyfriend who left her for another. Then she climaxes on Bowen's hands, and you think they are going at it, but then she remembers she hates him and proples him away with some magic. Then Mariketa begins to think anew whether se likes Bowen or not... You get the idea. All the book is like that for her. But then there's him. - Bowen thinks about Mariketa, whether she likes her or not because she's a withc and he hates witches. Mariketa has probably put a spell on him, making him love her, because he's still in love with his lost mate. Yeah, that's it. But the witch is hot! Yeah, but the guil for his lost mate... But wow, the witch is hot and he wants to claim her... but he must be ensorcelled, because he can't love a witch. Besides he would likely chose his lost mate... or not? Yeah, the withc is hot, now he wants to claim her and he will. More or less the book is like this for every page. I hated Mariketa for all her "Now Io want, now I don't" and Bowen for not letting go of the past. But do not worry, at the end of the book, there's some little surprises that gives a little more of deep to the story. Anyway, this book wasn't for me, I found it extremely boring. I hope the next one is better than this one!!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-11-30 13:02:56 EST)

This is the best book so far.Bowen is kind of the 'underdog' after losing his lifemate and losing the hie trying to get her back in the last book.He deserves to find some happiness, and you root for him the whole time in this book.Loved the sweet romance he finds. You will too.
