This is apparently a classic camp song - not one I ever heard growing up, though.

My nieces request this book a *minimum* of once a week (and usually, once they request it, they want me to read it over and over again to boot!), and we love it every time. Then they often want me to help them reenact the story - I'll be the bear, then they'll be the bear, then the teddy bear will be the bear....

If you're paying attention as you read it, you can even see the various members of the family change their mood as the story goes on and they get hit with various forms of minor disasters.

My 3 year old son loves this book. When we go for a walk around the neighborhood, he wants to pretend that we are going on a "bear hunt" and we recite the book. Great book for imagination.

Quite simply a children's classic. My 2.5year old loves this book. We also recommend checking out the Michael Rosen reading of this book on You Tube.

I can't imagine not having this in the board book version with my next child! I actually found my copy at Potterybarnkids and I was so excited and so was my child the first time we read it. It's simply so classic, it totally a read-a-loud story every page has some new exciting nature noise to sound out and the repetition is perfect for little ears. I started reading this to my daughter around 18mos and a year later she still loves it! A must for toddler libraries!

I loved this book and song as a child...so I thought that I would get it for my little one. Well it came and the pages are in reverse order and upside down...oh well.

Absolutely wonderful book! I guess it's based on a song (that I have not heard), which explains the lyrical flow of the story. Regardless, it is such a fun book to read out loud. The first time I read it to my three boys (2, 4, 5), they begged me to read it again, and again. The next morning, my oldest hopped into bed with me and said, "Mommy I can read this book." Then he "read" the story to me - actually he had memorized the chants. But he was so excited about being able to "read," that it prompted him to jump into his schooling and really focus on learning to read!! This has become a favorite at our house, and we read it at least twice a week. All three of my boys take turns "reading" it too :)

A classic book for even the youngest children. Babies will enjoy the many sounds ("swish, swish", etc.) the reader has to make in reading this book. Older children enjoy the anticipation of finding the bear.

This was an instant hit with my 4 year old...well...a...I kinda had more fun than him the first time. He loves it, this is just plain fun to read. A Must Must Must have for your kids library.

Just for a little background info on me, I have a BA in English as well as psychology. I worked as a children's library assistant for my first four years out of college. I'm also a mommy to a precious 2 year old daughter, Claire. Claire loves her books, and she adores this one, and has learned to chant diffrent parts of this book with me. It's one that both of us really enjoy!

My 14 month old loves this book. She helps read it by appropriately inserting the "uh oh"s and "oh, no!"s. It's definately also a book she will appreciate more and more as she grows older.

My son is 2 years old and this is his absolute favorite book. He knows it by heart. If I had a penny for everytime we read it, I would be weathly and that is without exaggeration. I would recommend this book to anyone with a child this age. The hard cover and pages make it very durable.

Kids of most ages will love this one. Apparantly based on a "campfire" chat that I was not previously familiar with, this books presents a great story told in lyric about an unlikely bear hunt. As fun as the story is, the pictures are 'cute' and attractive for kids and their readers. I have seen this in both board book format (wth all of the advantages of that slobber-tolerant medium) and full size 'big picture' format. I recommend the latter if you can find it, for enjoyment of the artwork.

My class of four year old prekindergarten students want to hear this book over and over again. I'm going on a Bear Hunt is a sure winner!

I've read this book to each of my children since they were infants. It evokes a variety of emotions and is very exciting for the little ones who've always liked to act it out. The repetition of words allows the young ones to "read along".

Reading this book with my two daughters always reminds me of Girl Scout camp. We don't just read it -- we make the sounds and use our hands and feet. They love it, and I enjoy it, too. And the illustrations are wonderful. The book is now one of my favorite gifts for kids ages 2 to 5.
