If you want to know the basics of the differences of Islam and Christ, you need to read this book. Very well wrtiten and a must read.

Dr. Caner's book is a first-hand look at the truths of Islam from the eyes of one possessing the facts of both religions. The comparison with Christianity is excellent. The presentation is fair and well-documented throughout. It is not Dr. Caner's point-of-view but a detailed comparison of Muslim and Christian Scriptures.

I felt that this book was written by men who actually knew what it is like to live a muslim life and not just an outsider looking in. I also felt like he wrote with total honesty. I look forward to reading his other books and this one I would recommend to everyone.

It is difficult to disagree with those who have both a learned and experiential knowledge of a subject - which these authors have!
Here is a book that will reveal the history, doctrines and motivations for Islam in our present culture. This is done in a very readable manner with many needed quotes and clarifications.

Added are morsels about cultural idioms, what to do and nto do in communicating with a Moslem and I believe - all done with honesty and grace. I found no vitriol or hatred in this book, only a heartfelt display of facts, born out of a love for humans. This is a most helpful book, primer of depth for all those who wish an honest look into the world, practices and religion of Islam.

Sick and disgusting. Islam is not necessarily the best religion but it isn't evil. ANY religion can be portrayed as evil. It is all from your perspective. THis book has a biased author. Obviously someone who converted to anothe religion from Islam is not going to speak to higly of it. Look for more of a historical and informative book. Not an opinion.

This book does not even deserve one star. If you want to know how much evangelical radicals hate Islam and Muslims, then go ahead and read. If you want an unbiased view on Islam, Please save your time and read other books that present the facts as they are. I recommend " what do muslims believe?"
this is hateful propaganda against Islam and Muslims. Goes as far as to call Allah " the Hater." FABRICATED sayings of the Muslim prophet Mohammed, as well as countless INACCURATE information, even in facts that were not used to smear Islam. For example, it says that the prophet Mohammed did not receive a revelation after his first revelation until three years after, when in fact it was only 3 months. In that statement they had just wiped out an essentials 3 years of his life known as "calling in secret." book claims that Women in Islam are considered "genetically inferior." It uses verses from the Quran OUT OF CONTEXT. very HATEFUL and VILE. Im disgusted that such a book would even get so much attention. Just another book thats part of the smearing campaign against Islam. another crappy piece of lit that will make the authors rich. Unfortunately, this book will only add to the existing fear and hate Americans have against a world religion and 1/5th of the worlds population.

For your information, Islam is also understood as peace, it is true that the authentic word for peace is Salaam, but Islam is from the same word and the same meaning (i.e: intense --> intesify).

If you come to study all of the phsycological book on how to find life-long happiness you'll come to discover that all of the studies that they have unleashed in the 21th century was already discovered in Islam, it is a peaceful religion.

My church recently had as a guest a former Muslim (now Christian) from Pakistan to talk about Islam. He mostly shared about the basics of Islam, then recommended this book (among others) for further information. I chose to purchase this book and I am very glad I did. "Unveiling Islam" is written by Ergun and Emir Caner, two American-raised brothers who were formerly Muslim, but are now Christian. "Unveiling Islam" is an easy-to-read, precise, and well-informed book which simply tells the truth about the teachings of Islam. Is the introduction, the authors state more than once that the purpose of the book is not to incite hatred toward Islam, but rather to educate people about the teachings of Islam. Very few, if any, of their statements about Islam are unsupported. As former Muslims, they are very knowledgeable about the Koran and they make use of this knowledge to back up their statements about Islam with specific references to the Koran. They also use many Bible references, usually for the purpose of comparing the Koran with the Bible.
While "Unveiling Islam" is a very good source for information about Islam, my personal opinion is that it is still just a basic introduction to Islam. In my opinion, you could learn far more about Islam beyond this book by meeting a practicing Muslim, getting to know him/her, and learning about their point of view. The authors themselves suggest this same idea more than once in the book. Another way to get more information about Islam is to get a reliable English translation of the Koran (yes, there are unreliable translations) to see for yourself what it says.
In short, if you are simply interested in a basic understanding of Islam and its teachings, then this is probably a perfect book for you. As I mentioned before, it is an easy-to-read, precise, and well-documented book. I really enjoyed reading this book, and learned a lot from it, and I think you will as well.

Excellent book..Would suggest that our politicians read this book. This is not about being a republican or democrate. This is about being an American and how to keep America secure...

Don't be turned off by the fact that the former Muslim's who wrote this book are now Christians. I found two of the best parts of the book were the brief yet riveting history of Islam as well as the writers relationship with their father. The two English Qur'an translations I used to cross check were the Abdullah Yusuf Ali, and Maulana Muhammad Ali versions.

If you are used to reading the King James Bible, you will have no problem grasping the language used in either of these two Qur'an translations. Each include plenty of the writers interpretations of the verses.

If you really want to know the difference between Muslim and Christianity read this book. It is a true eye opener written so that everyone can understand.

As a former Christian and now Muslim, I have to say that this book is a real disappointment. It's really quite hateful, and the things these guys say about Islam are complete fabrications. I'd like to ask any non-muslim who's interested in learning what Muslims believe to please just meet some muslims and talk to us in real life. Have coffee with a muslim once a week and ask him or her about their beliefs, instead of reading inaccuracies like this! It could really do us all a lot of good. We all need to get to know and understand each other better, that's the only way peace can be created, and we can't do that by reading books but by forging actual relationships.

Excellent book. I really enjoyed this book and the information that I learned. This is a really touchy subject so I am not surprised how drastic the difference in reviews are. The authors are very knowledgeable and show exactly where they get their facts. I would recommend this book to everyone and wish that more people would read it.

If you don't know anything at all about Islam, this is a great book. It gives the basic facts about the religion, its history, and its implications in current events. It has excellent ideas for people who want to witness to their Muslim acquaintances as well. Keep in mind, though, that the information is very, very basic. If you really want to be well-informed about Islam, you should probably try another book.

Textual corruption of the Bible is not only Muslim/Qur'anic position but top learned Christian scholars, who are not blinded by their fundamentalist doctrines, admit and ascertain to this historic fact (e.g. Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why (Plus) by Bart D. Ehrman and The Cross & The Crescent by Jerald Dirks).

That said, to say that Muslims do not believe in Jesus is a blatant misinformation. Islam happens to be the only none Christian faith on the face of the earth that makes it an article of faith to believe in Jesus. Muslims believe (on the bases of the Qur'an) in his miraculous birth (i.e. without any male intervention), they believe that he gave life to the dead (by God's permission) and healed those born blind and the lepers (by God's Permission) and they believe that he was the Messiah (translated: `Christ' - not God; word `Christ' only means anointed/appointed, in this case, by God to deliver his message to the Jews). Muslims don't hate Jesus - quite the contrary; they love and revere Jesus Christ, so much so that unlike modern Christians, you'll never hear the name of Jesus from a Muslim's lips without the suffix `peace be upon him'. Qur'an claims to be the continuation and correction (from human corruption), of the same message of God delivered by all the prophets including Abraham, Moses and Jesus. Muslims truly go beyond lip service and practically follow him (if you could observe them closely in their daily life and look beyond the rampant political Islam-bashing going on in the west these days) e.g. their greetings `AsSalam-o-Aliqum' (Translated: `peace be upon you') is word-for-word the same as Jesus used to greet. They pray like Jesus (e.g. in the Garden on Gethsemane); falling on their faces in humility. Instead of following Paul, Muslims take Jesus' words at face value. Following on Jesus' words (Mat 5:17-20) they don't eat pork, are circumcised and keep the law and commandments of God just like Jesus did and preached to his followers. Simply put, Muslims pray and follow the God of Jesus Christ.

What Muslims don't accept is that Jesus was God and that he died for anyone's sins. Both these ideas are later innovations and would have been repugnant to Jesus in his own time. He never claimed `I am God' and he never said `Worship me' - on the contrary he said `my father is greater than I (john 14:28); my father is greater than all (john 10:29); I can, of my own self, do nothing (john 5:30).

Dying for someone else's sins and getting punished for someone else's crimes is unjust even from human imperfect standards (no civilized people ever allow that) and diametrically opposed to The Justice of God and His teaching. I give you Ezekiel-18 as my supporting evidence on this point.

I was walking through the Family Christian Book Store (red flag #1) when I saw this book. I read it out of curiosity. I had hoped that it would try to explain Islam to non-Muslims (mostly Christians) in a way that would give them a basic understanding that isn't based on media propaganda and lies. But my hopes were dashed the second I looked at the titles of the chapters, and saw who the author was (red flag #2).

I just want people to understand Islam without filling their heads and their hearts with lies and hate. Unfortunately, people just don't realize that if you want to learn about something, go to its source. This book is full of lies and it's quite clear that the author understands nothing about Islam. Believe it or not, Muslims are very open people and would love to answer any questions you have. We just want to present you with the facts.

All in all, books like this are very dangerous as they make the gullible reader even more misinformed and uneducated. This books is full of hate and lies, and this in turn can make people who believe it unjust and hateful towards innocent people.

A note on the author: he claims to be an ex-Muslim. While only he and God really know the truth of that, I'd just like everyone to know that many people who have seen his interviews have noticed his inconsistencies outright lies. Anyone who knows about Islam can easily tell by watching him that he either was never a Muslim in the first place, or was never taught about real Islam properly. He can't even pronounce the simplest of words found in Islam in his interviews. Anyone who had spent more than a few months as a Muslim wouldn't make the mistakes he makes.

You don't have to like Islam or be a Muslim, but you still have the moral and ethical duty to educate yourself with FACTS and not LIES, and you also have the responsibility of not treating Muslims poorly based on books like this.

If anyone is interested in a concise and well-written book on how Muslims think, live, and what we believe, I would suggest reading Islam In Focus by Hammudah 'Abd al 'Ati. This is one of the best "intro" books I've ever read on Islam and it's very easy to understand.

This book is a great overview of the Islam religion, it's past and present, and the fundamentals. It often quotes scripture or individuals who made a statement about Islam, and uses other example situations where those differences come into play.

It is in-depty, informative, and very well written. It really helped to see the overview of the past, and the explanation of the five pillars (as well as the other sections too, but these I was curious on).

Would you read a book entitled _The Truth About Christianity_, written by a former Christian who left the faith? Such an exercise would surely prove as unenlightening as the reading of this text, _Unveiling Islam_, written by former Muslims who became born-again Christians. Having married into a Muslim family (all upstanding citizens who love this country), I can tell you that Muslims are not indoctrinated in hate as these authors claim. Quite the opposite! The crimes of "Muslim" terrorists are no more justified by the Koran than are the crimes of the former IRA, the KKK, or Hitler's Nazis justifiable by Christianity. Jesus proclaimed, "I came not to bring peace, but the sword." Since we live in a largely Christian society, we know better than to take a verse like this out of context. Unfortunately, it is less easy for Americans at large to recognize the decontextualization of Koranic verses. While the Islamic community is currently battling a faction of criminal extremists, this author's thesis- that Islam is congenitally violent- is simply false. If you'd like to justify hatred of Islam, or to write off all Muslims as either "terrorist" or "only nominal Muslims," this text should quench your literary thirst. However, if you are genuinely and honestly interested in learning about Islam, for goodness sake, get a real book.

This could be one of the most important books of the last decade that will help you understand the times. The authors, two brothers who were raised Muslim and became Christian, are now professors at Christian schools. Their backgrounds make them uniquely qualified to address questions such as what does Islam teach, and how does this relate to Christianity. They have produced a very readable, informative, and respectful survey of many of the most important aspects of the Islamic faith system. You don't want to miss reading this work.

I was especially happy to see that the book is not just a long lament about how bad Muslims are, or how foul Muhammad is and so on. The authors present the teachings of Islam in the best way possible; from the Qur'an and the Hadith themselves. Some Christian apologists often quote secondary sources, and haven't really studied the primary ones themselves. This leaves them open to criticism in debates, and often misinterpretations.

I was also especially happy to see the authors evaluate the teachings of Islam against a conservative and evangelical perspective of the Scripture. They compared very well, for example, the Biblical accounts of the birth of the Messiah (Jesus) and the Akidah (sacrifice of Isaac) with the accounts of the Qur'an. The ethics of the Qur'am and the Hadith are also sharply contrasted with the teachings of the Bible. I found many things useful, but in particular the list of surahs from Mecca and Medina (there is a huge difference between them) was priceless.

The authors also did a very good job of dispelling many myths. Think that Islam is peaceful at its core (at least as taught by the Qur'an and Hadith)? Think that Islam worships the same God as the Christians? Think that Islam expresses tolerance or equality for women? Think Jihad is only "allegorical" or that is has ceased? The authors show why these myths are untrue, using Muslim primary sources.

The Caner brothers do an excellent job of explaining the Muslim mind because, quite frankly, they were Muslims. They aren't passing along things they heard on the radio. There is also a nice summary chapter that serves to make bridges towards Muslims by understanding things that are culturally offensive in Muslim circles.

Probably the only thing the book is really missing is a discussion of the nation of Israel and the promises God made to them in terms of the land (i.e., the Abrahamic Covenant). The authors recommend that in conversation with Muslims, one should likely dance around this topic. But if true dialogue is to be made with the Muslim world, one must come to grips with the biblical promises God made to Israel. We should approach this topic with love and respect, but in the same way we cannot skip who is Jesus, neither can we skip the promises God made to Israel.

Finally, I liked this book because the authors are respectful. All too often it is easier to just mock the Muslim beliefs. The authors have a deep concern that Muslims come to faith, similar in Spirit to Paul lamenting that his countrymen be saved. These authors give a lot of information so that you might understand the Muslim mind. As a leader of a Messianic congregation, which is very concerned with Islam and its relationship with Israel, I highly recommend this book. You may not find a better one on the topic.

Ergun Caner introduces himself as a convert. He says his father was an Islamic leader and he claims he was a devout Muslim. He also says he is from a Muslim family, which is not entirely true. His father was a Turkish Muslim, he died in 1999, and his mother is a SWEDISH CHRISTIAN. At the age of 16 , in the midst of his parent's divorce he chose Christianity. I think he did this to take revenge from his father. His brother who also writes about Islam was even younger when he chose to be a Christian. What Ergun knows about Islam is NOT what he learned from his father, (what serious academic knowledge about any religion can you learn until the age of 16?, please be fair) but rather what he learned from Muslim-Hating Evangelist Christians who think all the Muslims live in tents ,and they travel around the world on coconut shells.

I respect one's decision about their religion however please tell me why he hides his real life but fabricates all these lies as to he was an insider etc. May I tell you why? : Because Evangelists believe to "save" and "deliver" unbelievers "lying" "cheating" "distorting" are fine and justified. That's exactly what he is doing so is his brother. These two were still kids when they chose Christianity (He was 16 and his brother was even younger) and it was rather an emotional decision not a logical, prompted by their parents' divorce. What I do not like about this guy and his brother is not their decision about the religion but their hiding their real background and posing as "former" Muslims who knew and who know all about Islam as an insider. If your 13 year old converts and becomes a Muslim and starts writing books about how Christianity is bad and evil -because he claims he knows it inside out- Will you take him seriously? please be fair. Ergun Caner and his brother Fethi were kids who wanted to take revenge from their father for the divorce and they did. They are nothing but a good advertising opportunity for the fundemantalist Christian Groups who hate all the other religions, particularly Islam. Rather than pursuing interfaith dialogue and work for peace these guys live to start a crazy faith based World War so that their ill minded prophecies come true. Let us, sensible people, not fall into this trap.

The book is far from giving any revealtion about Islam. Vague with lots of redundancy, The book fails to deliver

This book is easy to read and yet quite full of information. This is not strictly a theology book. It is actually a fairly "hands-on" type book. This book is not an attack on Islam, but a help for those that want to understand Islam and their Muslim friends. I believe that anyone reading this book will find at least one section helpful in their understanding of Islam and its followers. The section that has helped me the most is "The Bible from a Muslim Perspective". The authors show how the Koran actually speaks rather highly of the Bible.
