This book too general. Talks a lot about tips for running your business in general. That's not what I need. I was looking for Google tips exclusively.
If you read the wording of all those 5-star reviews, they are a joke. Not written by actual buyers, most likely the author's friends.

I reviewed Howie Jacobson's book about adwords, but I remain a staunch Perry Marshall fan. I have this book and Perry's ebook on this subject and I frequently listen to his many mp3 files I've accumulated over the years. I even purchased a new ipod so I could access Perry's wisdom when I'm on the run. It would be hard to choose between Marshall and Jacobson, but if you can only afford one I recommend Perry Marshall. Follow their recommendatiuons and you'll make enough money to afford both.

My company does AdWords campaigns for many clients, so I am always looking for ways to increase performance and lower costs.
But I bought this book because I was looking for a true guide to Google's AdWords. What all the terms really mean. I was looking for the Ultimate Guide to How to Use AdWords, not how to create ads.
There is almost no technical in this book. It tells you how to organize the groups, but not how to go on Google AdWords and create them. It doesn't tell you the step-by-step process of making this work. There are no instructions.
There is a lot of general marketing advice, and some of it is good, but if you are buying this book to sit at your computer and actually make an AdWords account from scratch, you will be confused and disappointed.

Soy cliente de Amazon desde Argentina y desde hace años. He comprado varios libros de diversos temas.

Lot's of good tips, from someone with a take-no-prisoners edge. Clearly the author has a great deal of experience and thinks shrewdly about his craft. This was a great help when I was first putting together an advertising campaign for some affiliate marketing websites I was operating.

Considering Perry Marshall's reputation, I'm surprised to see that he released such a generic and self-promoting book.

Like way too many books out there, this book provides no real insight. The books spends a healthy amount of space comparing effective ad copies, but most of us with any sense at all can do that on our own.

If you want to know makes effective ad copies, just study all the sensationally-worded and fabricated book reviews of this product!

Like many reviewers have mentioned, the author keeps pitching his own
services and his cronies way too much.

It's also pretty transparent to see that most if not all the other 5-star
reviews are from the author or his buddies.

"AdWords for Dummies" by Howie Jacobson is better organized and more thorough.

Sensational title. Material not worth it. Shame on such a famous author for releasing a wasteful book.

(Hide Review...)  Good information, but too many endorsements
Reviewer Permalink
Before this book, I was a complete AdWords newb. But bear in mind I was not a newb to internet marketing. I was pleased to find that for the most part, the book was full of very good information. It is good enough to get any novice up and running quickly. However, I did have a few complaints:

1. As another reviewer mentioned, there seems to be a problem distinguishing which author is writing at which time. Not that it matters all that much. But it did become confusing more than once.

2. I found the discussion on quality score to be somewhat limited. Maintaining a favorable quality score is something that many adwords advertisers have a problem with. Consider a more thorough discussion of this in the next edition.

3. Finally, this leads me to something that ticked me off more and more as I read the book. I was very disappointed to find that the authors heavily (and I mean heavily) promote products and services within the book that lacked sincerity. For example, the authors promoted their own services (and opt-in lists), friends services, and even services from companies paying them some sort of commission for mentioning them in the book. For the latter, it was not made extremely obvious, but anybody that is in internet marketing could spot this. For example, WordTracker's url is www.wordtracker.com, not www.wordtracker.info as mentioned in the book. I'm sure the .info was merely set up as a means to count referrals to the WordTracker service. To the authors, I would remind them that writing a book is different than your every day internet marketing efforts. Of course it is a great opportunity to expose the audience to your own brands and services, but lets keep in mind that people are actually paying to hold this book in their hands. I really found it deceitful that the authors have treated this book like an opt-in list where they attempted to sell sell sell. On a side note, the thing I have learned over the years about internet marketing is there are very few tools you have to actually pay for. And that reminds me, don't even bother with the "supplement" to the book (perrymarshall.com/supplement). It doesn't offer any quick information or tips. Only more chances to Opt-In, and more chances to buy stuff. I look at it as a wasted opportunity to provide some real value to the reader. In the next edition of the book, I would love for the authors to focus on more of the great free tools that are out there, and forget about getting those kickbacks from WordTracker and other companies. If you genuinely love WordTracker, send them to WordTracker.com. Forget about this WordTracker.info nonsense. That's just stupid. Provide great value to your readers, and they will love you for it. Trust me.

Summary: If you decide to read this book, read it for the content and marketing principles that are discussed. Take the website and tools endorsements with a grain of salt.

(Hide Review...)  Not just common sense ideas.
Reviewer Permalink
Most books like this are a bunch of common sense things that most halfway intelligent people can think of themselves. This book is not like that. It is written to help anyone using Google AdWords. It will save you money and drive customers to your website by teaching you tricks unique to Google. I finished reading it and had two pages of ideas of things to change for my already successful Google campaign. I would highly recommend this book to anyone needing to do any Web campaign work. The authors also point out the unique things that Google can do for companies today that companies could not do before. If you have a good product, and can find the right words to convey your message, this book will help you do drive thousands of customers to your website for a very low price. Selling it still up to you, but the thought of driving people to your website who are actively seeking information on the product that you are selling, and paying a pretty small price for each click is/should be exciting to many a entrepreneur. This book will definitely help you to attain that goal.
My biggest complaint about the book is that there was nowhere to take notes in the book so that I could do all the things that this book made me think of.

Reviewer Permalink
I got this book to supplement Affiliate Millions (Anthony Borelli). Affiliate Millions is the first and only book I have read on the topic of internet advertising as a business. I was looking for something to flesh out some of the topics Mr. Borelli introduces.

To my knowledge, Affiliate Millions is the only book devoted to the business of placing ads on Google to generate search traffic to various websites with the hope of collecting commissions through their affiliate programs. This business is sometimes called search engine marketing, affiliate marketing, paid placement, and so on.

Other books, such as the Ultimate Guide, address the topic of using Google AdWords to generate traffic for YOUR website. It's not quite the same as generating traffic for someone else but many of the principles apply.

You want to optimize your advertising campaigns for the highest placement at the lowest cost. The Ultimate Guide has a wealth of useful advice for this objective. The book has a thorough discussion of split-testing your ads to improve their "click-through rate." It introduces the "peel and stick" strategy for creating separate ads for the most effective keywords. There is extensive discussion of writing ad copy (which Mr. Borelli says is KING in affiliate marketing).

Yes, Ultimate Guide lives up to its name. It is an excellent companion for Affiliate Millions. Much of the advice can be adapted for the purposes of affiliate marketing.

For those who like to thoroughly research a business before jumping in, if you really want to understand search marketing, another excellent book is "Winning Results with Google AdWords" by Andrew Goodman. Goodman is a prominent authority. After you read his book, Ultimate Guide, Affiliate Millions, along with Google's own help screens and guides, you will practically be an expert.

As other reviews have noted, Marshall is not shy about promoting his various products and programs. For me, it cuts his credibility. It concerns me that he promotes "Google Cash," another get-rich-with-Google scheme. This is in contrast to Mr. Borelli, who hasn't linked his book or website to any additional products and services.

For those who like to thoroughly research a business before jumping in, if you really want to understand search marketing, another excellent book is "Winning Results with Google AdWords" by Andrew Goodman. For those of you who are interested in Google AdWords - You might find this book inspirational. You might even get that basic understanding of how Google AdWords works. If you like motivational speakers - you might like this book a lot.

When it comes to teaching about technology - I do not need a motivational speaker - I need clear, concise, tutorial like approach to the subject at hand.

Perry provides many loose examples to support his chapters, but they were not consistent. It would have been better to use a single example (like a fake company profile) and use it throughout the book. Because he is a consultant for many clients, Perry jumps from one type of client to another, often within the same paragraph or supporting text. Basically his writing sounds like a motivational speech on "Ways to Become Rich By Marketing on Google" I was hoping to get "The Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords"

Sorry Perry - your writing voice was comforting, but not very well suited for Technical Guide Books.

As a general concept, Google Adwords is simple to understand. However, the devil's in the details and what you don't know can cost you a LOT of money. Long before this book was published, Perry Marshall established himself as a leader in the effective use of Google Adwords as a powerful online marketing and profit-generating tool. And, Perry has the ability to break complex information down into bite-size pieces that are very clear and easy to understand. Bottom line, this book is extremely well written and is an excellent tool that almost anyone can use to improve their online business results. Naturally, if you're already an Google Adwords expert you probably don't need this book. Or, if you can afford Perry's $600.00/hour consulting fees, then go ahead and work with him one-on-one. For everyone else, buy this book, read it, and then keep it close at hand as you plan and execute your Adwords campaigns. Your ROI on this nominal purchase will be astronomical!

I've got the book and the screen shots - despite the 2007 copyright - are out of date which pretty much renders the book useless. Of course if you're sitting with a book looking a screen shots that no longer exist on Adwords it can be more than a little frustrating.

You're just as well off stumbling though the help menus on the Google ad words web site and buying a decent book on advertising. Most of what Marshall writes are old bromides. Not that they're bad... but they're certainly not unique.

There are certain people that become synonymous with a topic
and for Google Adwords, that is Perry Marshall.

Unlike when you dabble with getting Adsense to work, if you
dabble with Adwords, it can cost you thousands of dollars.

Again I had attempted Adwords before reading Perry's book hoping that
the help and internet searches would provide the answers, but
not only was it a time waster, but it cost me thousands. After
this I needed a real answer to recoup what I had lost in my
lame attempts to capture every type of visitor I could versus
Perry's approach of direct target a very specific niche and keyword.

I was taught completely different in the early days, and carried
this with me at a huge loss. Now, not only do I not touch
Adsense without referring to Perry's book, but I have also
joined his programs and clubs to make sure that I remain
on top of this topic, because if you don't, it costs you.

It is the industry standard on this topic, what he outlines in extreme
details works, and he has programs and products that support
and expand on everything for when you get even more advanced.

As the bestselling author of "31 Days to Millionaire Marketing Miracles"
I researched extensively on this topic, and mention Perry in my book as
a fantastic resource because cnce you KNOW about Adwords, then you go to
Perry.

The Ultimate Guide lives up to its name. I have been involved in internet marketing for 6 months and this book is head and shoulders above the rest of what I've found in explaining Adwords, at a fraction of the cost.

Perry Marshall not only gives expert advice he does it clearly without talking down to the reader. I found that this is not just an Adwords how-to book. Concepts and techniques can be applied across the internet markteting spectrum.

My first (successful) Adwords campaign began after reading chapter 4 (I couldn't wait). Using what is taught in just the first 4 chapters in one week my return on investment was 235%. I continued to read through chapter 8 applying the principles and techniques and tweaks. After week 2 my ROI was 436% and cost per click was less with $626.00 net profit. I'm still reading tweaking and testing.

This is absolutely incredible for a beginner who 6 months ago did not even know what Adwords was.

In all, this is a pretty comprehensive guide packed (don't be fooled due to lack of hype) with information on Adwords and internet marketing. Any one who desires to know how-to make money on the internet will save time and money when they invest in this one.

This book is an indispensable guide for beginner to intermediate level Google adwords advertisers. While the Google site has a thorough range of tutorials, they almost exclusively focus on the MECHANICS of Google adwords: how to do specific, basic tasks. Marshall and Todd's book is focused on STRATEGY: how to get maximum results from your Google ads dollars by understanding how the program works. Big difference. The chapters are short and focused, the writing style is clear and understandable, the case histories are relevant. Given the amount of hype proliferating the Internet and its financial potential, I appreciate the fact that the authors are very grounded and pragmatic about what it takes to succeed with Google. No pie-in-the-sky claims, just straightforward nuts and bolts training! The only criticism is that many of the screen capture shots are too small to be easily legible. Learning to advertise with Google adwords requires a significant learning curve. This book won't necessarily shorten or flatten that curve, but it will enable the committed reader to improve their Google adwords results.

Recently I heard a talk by a self-style Internet marketing expert. She was completely unfamiliar with even the basic techniques mentioned in this book. Hello?!

That's why Perry Marshall's book is so important. You can spot the phonies who take your money with vague promises to drive traffic and manage your accounts.

Perry Marshall's other products are huge: it's daunting to start on a series with 6 CDs and a humongous manual. This one is a good way to break into the basics.

I met Perry once at a conference. He is the Real Deal: unassuming and straightforward. So is this book.

I have had a lot of experience with AdWords before I read this book. I would recommend this book if you are just getting started with AdWords, but if you are experienced already, it may not teach you much.

I found this book to be an EXCELLENT resource. A true sign of mastery is the ability to make complex information easy to understand. This is what Perry and Bryan have done. Because he and Bryan learned this on their own dime they offer "down in the trenches" advice on this immensely important method of marketing.

Perry also comes from an "Accountability" form of marketing which I share.

Thanks for teaching this old dog a new trick.

Bravo!

I had been using Google Adwords for over a month, and had no clicks. I didn't understand the concepts. After reading just two chapters in this book, I made some changes to my account. Within hours the clicks were building! I highly recommend Perry Marshall as an expert to be listened to.

I brought this book because of its high rating. It is just a disappointment.

1. It is too wordy -- Key opinion can be summarized in 10 pages.

2. Too much irreverent topics - only the first 100 pages is about adwords. The rest of 200 is irreverent.

3. Nothing new - you may learn more if you search "adwords trick" in google.

As a previous customer of the Definitive Guide to Google Adwords, I didn't figure this printed book would be better. It might be a lite version of the massive PDF book that Perry wrote.

However, I got to know Bryan Todd, Perry and so many other things about Adwords that I had no idea.

Perry really did deliver in this one.

After reading the entire book in just 2 days (50% each way on the airplane) I almost plunked down whatever fees I would to get access to my account just to tinker with some of the suggestions.

If you are wondering if the two books are different they are without a doubt.

I think they compliment each other but this printed copy really has some interesting insights the PDF book does not.

The Definitive Guide really digs into setting up campaings and such.

The Ultimate Guide really brings some light to issues not addressed.

Overall it was a fantastic read and a MUST have for anybody who's into Adwords or is even considering that aspect of marketing and traffic.

You will save yourself the cost of the book in just one day by using the techniques contained in here and your CTR's will soar!

For those of us who need this kind of assistance, this book is excellent. If you are not a guru at this, just take it a chapter at a time and give it time to sink in. When you understand it and can act on it, then move on. Eventually you reach the end and your adwords campaign is clearly better for your efforts. The books best point is the way in which it is condensed to include only what you need to know and not a lot of extra stuff. My only complaint with it is that I don't believe the chapter on SEO was as well written and on that subject I am still in the dark. It's a worthwhile book to purchase and learn from.

You may be tempted to think this book is just about internet marketing and Google Adwords. It is not. While the central theme is about Google Adwords, there is a wealth of information and advice that applies to running any business.

Perry Marshall is a well known and highly respected expert on Google Adwords. So when he provides information, you should listen.

This book is extremely well written and easy to understand. It is filled with specific examples and gives you step by step instructions on how to implement the advice being given.

As an added bonus, there are selections from Scientific Advertising by Claude Hopkins (written in 1923 and considered a real classic on advertising) . If you did nothing other than read and implement the "Uncle Claude Sez" inserts at the end of each chapter, you would more than pay for the cost of this book.

There are plenty of tools and sources that will help you in making your online (or offline business for that matter)more profitable.

Follow the steps given in this book and you will greatly increase your internet traffic. There is some great solid lessons about the value of testing, testing and then testing some more. Perry and Bryan make it easy to follow and implement. However they do make the observation that most people are rather lazy and will not make the effort to really do the work necessary. They make the point that internet marketing is a real business and if you treat it like a business, it can be highly profitable. However, treat it casually and it will never fulfill your dreams.

Well worth reading, even if you never plan to run an internet business. There a couple of groups that probably hope you don't read it, Google - cause you will slash the cost of your Google Ads and your competitors - cause after reading you will be a much sharper competitor.

Good Job Perry! As a webmaster who had yet to explore google adwords, I was amazed at how simple you made this process and how quickly my CTR's jumped just after reading a few chapters and utilizing your tips and techniques! I'm sure you've not heard the last of me as I plan to purchase many more of your products.

Google AdWords is one of the two big things that Google does to generate revenue (the other is Google AdSense). When you do a search on Google, you get a page back from them that lists the web sites best meeting the criteria you inserted. If you're put in a common search term you might get 1,276,893 sites that meet that criteria. Not too helpful. But off to the right, and perhaps across the top, you'll get some 'Sponsored Links' -- those are AdWords.

Your web site by itself might be site number 659,235 that Goodle will show (if anyone will scroll down that far). But if you pay Google a few cents each time it's clicked on you can get your site listed in the column on the right.

This book is all about how to use AdWords. How to select the search words where you want your ad to appear. How much to bid for each click. How to test ads. How to use Google's tools. Google's rules. There's a whole book here, and it's full. But if you're trying to drive hits to a web page and sales from the hits Adwords is probably your best bet. And it's clear that these guys know what they're talking about.
