My stepdaughter Liana used SBD to lose 46 lbs after having her son, Lewis. She is now a size 18 and has about 40-50 pounds more to go.
She has two cautions though. 1. The diet gave her measles (yes I don't see how but that's what her natureopath tells her, of course Dr. Denjela drinks his own urine so other than Liana and her partner Franklin no body in our family puts much creedance in what he says. 2. the Turkey Chili recipe has a significant typo. The recipe book and its companion paperback guide make it easy to sort out where all the "sugar" and "fats" are hidden in the prepared foods at the grocery store so you can make healthy decisions according to your own needs. The recipes are good - some a bit too fancy for our tastes - but all can me modified with the foods and spices on the lists that you like. We've also found several new favorites!

This recipe book has some good recipes. I especially like the sausage and cheese breakfast cups. Some of the other recipes are rather complicated, with ingredients that may be hard to find. I have had better luck with "South Beach", than anything else.

I went on the South Beach Diet in November 2005. In one year I went from weighing 280 lbs to weighing 215! My cholesterol went from 221 to 141,and my blood pressure went from 150/100 to 117/77 (with NO drugs). Also I lost 6 inches around my waist. It went from 42 inches to 36.As of May 2008, I currently weigh 212 (at 5' 11') and am trying to work my way to 195 now.I own all of the books and am one of the biggest advocates of the diet. I would recommend this book to anyone!

Any one that has done South Beach knows that it is a lifestyle. As a foodie, I am always looking for wonderful ways to spice up my kitchen and keep my waist trim...this book does it all while getting you in and out of the kitchen FAST!

I am estatic that this was published. I purchased it the second I saw it. Although I've had this book a few years, I actually wore the slip cover off and now the book is starting to look a little worn. These are excellent, healthy, quick and easy recipes to follow if you need help in deciding where, when or what to eat while trying to be healthy. Just for myself or for me and my fiance, these recipes work great and we dont feel guilty for cheating a little either. We have a solid core that we follow so staying on track is easy. These are excellent healthy recipes and I would highly recommend them.

This book is not just for the dieter, but also for peopl that just want to eat healthier. There are lots of recipes with pictures to help with becoming healthier. Great book!

Purchased this for my daughter, who is not on a diet, but is very health conscious. Great recipes, athough they use a lot of ingredients and take a while to prepare. I had also bought her the South Beach Diet 30 Minute Meal cookbook. She doesn't have a lot of time to cook, but this has great, quick recipes that are easy to prepare. Both books together give a good variety of healthly recipes.

This is a good cookbook period. It just happens to be a healthy one as well. I have been on the South Beach eating plan for quite a while and cook out of the South Beach cookbooks a lot and my family loves the food and doesn't even know they are healthy.

As an overweight general internist I started the South Beach diet because it is really a lifestyle change as opposed to that four letter word, "diet." The recipes are easy, fun, and actually very tasty. I recommend the South Beach plan and this cookbook to all my overweight patients.

A couple of years ago my girlfriend had a little girl and wanted to lose the extra baby fat she put on so she went out and bought this book. I have never been a fan of these diets but the book did intrigue me. I read through a lot of it and started to get interested in the recipes. The recipes my girlfriend made me where very good and flavorful. She ended up following the South Beach Diet and lost a good amount of weight. The first week is said to be a little hard but once you get past that week there are great and delicious recipes to make.

Recently I purchased the South Beach Cookbook. Since I am on the South Beach Diet, this cookbook has made it so easy for me to follow the plans.

If you are one who loves to try out new and exotic recipes...this is for you. If you are looking for easy, quick recipes....not so much. It is nice, however, that the Phases are color coded so you know if the recipe is the right one for your phase. Included is a condensed over-view of the diet.

I have been on the South Beach Diet since December 2006 and have lost 25lbs to date. I love the Large Print because I can prepare a meal without having my glasses on... and the recipes are great. I can eat anything I want and with exercise it has helped me lower my cholestoral and high blood pressure.

The recipes are clear, use common ingredients, and are not overly difficult to prepare. You can learn a lot about healthy cooking when you pay attention to the ingredients that are used. Finally, taste is not compromised in these recipes!

I used SBD to lose 50 lbs after having twin girls. I am now back in a size 12 (still working towards a perfect 10) and happy as ever. The receips are easy and very tasty!! The best. I also bought this book for my mom and a couple of really good friends.

i just bought this cook book to accompany the quick and easy south beach diet book. most of the recipes are quick in this book as well, and it gives a nice variety in each category. if you are hardcore on the diet, or just looking for some healthier alternatives, this cookbook is nice. we have found that everything we have made so far does not taste like it came from a "diet" cookbook. do'nt let this fool you into thinking that the recipes for muffins, pancakes, and sausages are going to taste like the real thing. these are alternatives to the real thing. we are using wheat flour, oat bran, turkey bacon and sausage and they taste like just that...wheat flour, oat bran, turkey bacon and sausage. these are meant to be a healthier alternative, not an exact replica of what's bad for us to eat! as long as you keep this in mind, this cookbook is great. the main entrees are much better than the breakfasts because there are less "replacement" ingrediets.

This is a good follow-up book to the original South Beach diet, with many recipes of tasty dishes. -- South Beach Diet has been on the top of bestseller lists for a few years now. However, in view of the recent critiques of Atkins low carb diet, I think that it is better to consider other approaches. In a health/longevity book titled Can we live... I found simple rules for food combinations that gave me same results without my feeling deprived of foods that I like. It turns out that not only it matters WHAT, and HOW MUCH we eat, but also HOW we it. In addition, the author explains other medical reasons for obesity (outside of nutrition) and how to deal with them.

Very helpful was also another book i used to have (borrowed from a friend). The title is Can we live ... (I think it is "hundred fifty" in the place of dots, but I am not sure so, I don't want to mislead anyone in case it is hundred twenty) In addition to longevity issues there is also a very good chapter on obesity, proper food combination, etc. It is a very good addition to "South Beach Diet". This diet worked for me. I lost weight rather fast and didnt have a hard time doing it. Cravings go away and there are lots of snacks and meals that you can buy for this program. Also, the cookbooks are good for this diet.

It has lots of recipes and it is we organized. I have had this book for over and only used one recipe. It has lots of phase 3 recipes and I am still in phase 2.

Let me start saying that I have read a lot of books on weight loss and I have my own experience in the weight loss game, having being able to loss more than 200 lbs and shrink my waist (from 44 to 32) in about eight months, and I have been able to keep in good shape for more than 6 years. I believe that for a Weight loss program to be effective in the long term it has to be realistic and it has to be practical and easy to follow, so one can stick to it in order to gradually obtain what we ultimately want: Burn unwanted body fat. This book will not teach you what are the fundamental ideas behind the South Beach Diet, but rather provide a huge recipe collection for its followers, in order to make even easier staying in the right track for weight loss. What makes this book so practical is that it will help you introduce variations and new flavor to your diet so you won't get bored as follow the South Beach Plan. I believe that anyone can succeed following the South Beach diet with the help of this book for the following main reasons: - You won't get bored of eating always the same dishes over and over again since the book has plenity of variations and combinations. - You will stick to the plan because the food choices and the resulting combinations are tasteful. - It is practical, no complicated recipes, no need to count and keep track of the calories since the recipes are designed following the South Beach Diet precepts, and best of all almost no hard to find ingredients for your dishes. I got this cookbook as a birthday gift from my mom. I really like it and it has a lot of great recipes in it. However, the only thing against it is that it tends to be a little involved for someone short on time and ingredients. I highly recommend the new Quick and Easy cookbook for South Beach, it is much faster and more "doable" for the busy cook.

After using the Quick and Easy South Beach Cookbook, I wanted to try more recipes, so I bought this one. Now I see why there was a demand for the Quick and Easy cookbook. These recipes sometimes take HOURS to make, and often have expensive ingredients. It doesn't make sense to me to have to do so much work to stay on your diet. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. One of the only hard things about this diet is that you have to cook almost everything from scratch b/c "prepared" foods aren't good for you. It's hard enough without having to cook really time-consuming, elaborate meals. If you're new to the SB diet, skip this one and get the Quick and Easy cookbook--it's *excellent*, and the recipes take about 30 minutes and have few ingredients.

This cookbook is a wonderful resource for all "eaters" not just SB Dieters. It proves that this diet is not dull and boring. Great reading to learn how to make better choices when cooking.

I bought this cookbook when I started the South Beach Diet and was anticipating a very restricted diet. I found this cookbook to be very helpful even in the first phase of the diet and found more recipes I wanted to make than in any other cookbook I have (I collect cookbooks). Even on the first phase of the diet I did not feel like I was on a diet.
As I'm sitting here writing this review I'm thinking about another book I read called "The Truth About Caffeine: How Companies That Promote it Deceive Us and What We Can Do About It" by Marina Kushner. Consuming caffeine has far deadlier consequences. There is ample evidence that all of the disturbances that adults experience through caffeinated coffee can also occur in children who imbibe excessive amounts of caffeinated beverages, Kushner writes. And, of course, "excessive" levels for children are always much lower. It is a factor in a multiple of problems from stomach problems to dizziness to the inability to focus or sleep restfully to cancer. As for the book, it's pure pleasure reading!!! It takes determination to lose weight and I've always thought the formula to be relatively simple: eat less calories and burn more through exercise. However, it is very difficult to do so. So I turned to South Beach diet. I've found this to be a very practical diet. After the initial first two weeks (the strictest) I've lost about 5 pounds. But, I've done no exercise whatsoever and have eating quite a bit which accounts for the lower than the average weight loss. Very helpful was also another book. The title is "Can We Live 150 Year" In addition to longevity issues there is also a very good chapter on obesity, proper food combination, etc. It is a very good addition to "South Beach Diet". Dr. Agatston developed the diet for his chronically overweight heart patients. Soon, thanks to his patients' results, Dr. Agatston's diet became all the buzz in Miami. The South Beach Diet is divided into three different Phases. The first Phase lasts for two weeks and is the strictest of the three. Each Phase includes specific allowable foods on the Foods to Enjoy list, as well as meal plans and recipes. Dr. Agatston says decreasing the bad carbs will help you metabolize what you eat more effectively and will also improve insulin resistance, leading to weight loss. The diet is based on the Glycemic Index.
He says you will become accustomed to eating the good carbs and fats and leaving the bad ones behind. He says by doing so you can lose anywhere between 8 and 13 pounds in the first two weeks (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-10 20:00:50 EST)

I had heard about the South Beach Diet 2 years ago through my Mom and Dad and sister. They all follow it and I thought I couldn't do it because I was nursing my baby. I wish I had tried it sooner!!! You can do this diet while pregnant/nursing and no matter what your health situation is! My physician said it is the ONLY diet he will encourage people to follow. It will work, it just takes a little discipline in the beginning (Phase 1). You get through that and it's easy street. I started the diet On March 1st, 2006 weighing 170 lbs. and a size 16. I weighed myself this morning and am down to 145 and a junior size 11. I am 5' 7" so I am technically well within my ideal weight range, but I am shooting for 140lbs. I KNOW it will happen any day now. I am in Phase 3 and I eat dessert (in moderation), bread (whole grain) and LOTS of yummy dishes!!! I've even got my kids cooking in the kitchen with me and they eat foods you'd never believe a little kid would eat. It's a family plan and a way of life. I've got so much more energy that I WANT to exercise any chance I get now! My whole family is healthier and happier for it. I do recommend reading both books--read them over and over...I've read the South Beach Diet 4 or 5 times. When you feel a little down or like you're falling off the wagon, read it. It will reaffirm what you're doing and why you're doing it. TRY IT, YOU'LL LIKE IT! Good luck~~Julie

This book is excellent. I was using the diet guidelines and cooking various meals but always had that feeling of wanting reassurance that the meals were in line with the plan. This cookbook has lots of great recipes and I know that they are good for me on the diet. The south beach is a winner and this book is a real blessing for that diet. Wonderful. Overall, it's a great feel-good type of book. Just like my other book called "The Truth About Caffeine: How Companies That Promote it Deceive Us and What We Can Do About It. It's made me quit drinking caffeineated beverages when I realized all my health problems were stemming from it. Buy it now. It may save your life!

B H M is a fadulant author who does around and writes bogus reviews in order to recommend his own crapy book. I had heard of South Beach and decided to aply it in my life. I got two books about South Beach Diet, including this one. I like the fact that the author isn't just saying what to do to lose weight but he also does an excellent job of explaining why following his advice works. South Beach is like a modified version of Atkins which I also used with success. Unlike Atkins the South Beach Diet is also ideal for those who can't eat a high fat diet. I lost 8 lbs. my first week which I consider a very good result. So far, am down over 17 lbs. in three weeks and feel great! Very helpful was also a chapter on obesity

I hope the South Beach Diet books will keep coming. Of the three cookbooks, this one is the best because it offers recipes that real people can handle given real life time constraints. And this diet results in a great weight loss! After a few months I can fit myself into two sizes smaller dress. Very helpful was also a chapter on obesity that I found in the book "Can We Live 150 Year" where the author explains other reasons for gaining weight (apart from nutrition and lack of exercise). As for recipes in this South Beach Diet book I tried several of them and I was please with most of them .

This one terrific book. Good follow-up book to the original South Beach diet, with many recipes of tasty dishes. -- South Beach Diet has been on the top of bestseller lists for a few years now. However, in view of the recent critiques of Atkins low carb diet, I think that it is better to consider other approaches
