This Much Is True: You Have Been Lied To.
The Founding Fathers didn't want any of this. In fact, they said so quite clearly in the Constitution of the In THE REVOLUTION, Despite a media blackout, this septuagenarian physician-turned-congressman sparked a movement that has attracted a legion of young, dedicated, enthusiastic supporters . . . a phenomenon that has amazed veteran political observers and made more than one political rival envious. Candidates across "Dr. Paul cured my apathy," says a popular campaign sign. THE REVOLUTION may cure yours as well. |

Like Jefferson before him Ron Paul thinks being POTUS is no big deal...some day a bright young thing with this volume in his or her hand may be sitting in the White House dismantling the empire. It's more fun, not to mention influential, to be writing Notes on Virginia, or the Revolution, and let one's disciples do the footwork. This volume does an admirable job of creating that philosophically informed rank and file. Do you want to join our party, the Party of None of The Above, and make a real revolution? Then this is the read for you!

This book provides great insight on the federal governments sytematic abuses of personal freedom and liberty. After reading this book I am much wiser now to the false choices that are offered to the people. Ron Paul is a brilliant man, who has a vision that is consistent with that of The Founding Forefathers. That is a vision of what "freedom and liberty" truely are.
Thank you Dr. Paul (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-12 00:56:11 EST)

This is an easy to read common sense analysis of current political problems and the best way to solve them. Every aspect is bound by the chains of the Constitution in such a way as it is in the spirit of the Constitutional Convention and our Founding Fathers. I highly recomend this reading to any one who seriously cares about the fate of our nation.

I have heard many remarks that have perniciously evaluated and rebuked the political ideologies of Ron Paul. The most common I come across is, "That man is nuts!" The irony here is that when you look at the core of what he stands for it edifies all that every American should stand for: the Constitution and a free Republic, with a very limited CENTRALIZED government. The unfortunate instance is that our population is becoming unfathomably comfortable allowing the Federal government the freedom of regulating our liberties to the extent of its interpretations as to what liberty means. In a nation that is becoming evermore politically docile and withdrawn I would not expect the masses to understand the principles of what this nation was built upon. Especially, since the Federal government has subsidized and seized the nation's educational system and curriculum.
Paul identifies a myriad of issues that are quite odiously befuddling as to why they are here in the great America: from the increasing power of the Supreme Court; increasing power of the President; decreasing sovereignty of States; diminishing civil rights of the citizens; the perplexing and superfluous use of "national security" to lie or hinder knowledge from the public and to aid passage of bills sight unseen; excessive regulation based on "problem, reaction, solution"; government intervention into the free market; frivolously dispersed military; the waging of countless unnecessary wars; the welfare system; dependence of Americans on the Federal government; etc., so forth and ever continuous! As Americans, which is fortunate in this REPUBLIC, we can fight back against all of these issues and regulate that which needs regulation and reform. For those of us whom follow Paul and the Constitution find ourselves up against a monolithic edifice on civilian ground. The people of America have been groomed to see political issues in two dimensional idiosyncrasies: Republican fix and Democratic fix-which Paul did run for the Republican nomination, but his ideologies are in Constitutionalism. Anything outside of the Republican and Democrat ideologies is unacceptable and will be repudiated by the American population, which is sad. We, the people that say no to the orthodox, are quirks and conspiracy theorists. In my personal opinion those who would refute what Paul has to say is far from living INDEPENDENT, and has sold their independence for dependence (government regulation and "security") as they genuflect before the FED. Overall I feel the thesis of this book is that "the Constitution is not an antiquated and obfuscating document." If one were to read the Constitution you would be frightened to see where our rights and liberties have been seized, and if this continues before long we will see the Bill of Rights abrogated. Being the brilliant men they were the Framers of this Constitution knew exactly what they were writing, and the intent of LIMITING CENTRAL GOVERNMENT was the premise. These men had an arduous task before them to create a document that would perturb an intrusive central government. As successful as they were FEDERALISM seems to have prevailed and now we as Americans need to wake up from our political indifference and allow our apathy to be cured by the sacred documents of America that are NOT, indeed, antiquated or obfuscated. [Stepping from my soapbox] The only issue I have with the book is its length, it should have been much longer. However, the amount of impact that the book does carry is definitely a detriment that will be felt by the current political orthodoxy. This book should be read by any American who believes in the principles upon which this country was founded, and should be required reading for all high school seniors. This book has our nation's solutions. It is that simple. The path that our country is headed down is horribly wrong. Not to say that Ron Paul has every answer for every problem we face, but his principles, which are strongly rooted in the founding father's beliefs and the constitution, are an incredibly important base by which we should use to focus on before deciding what is right for our nation. This is a quick, great read that will intrigue those who are excited for our nation, disappointed in its recent or past action, or confused at how any political action can change the way the world works.

Ron Paul has seen the man behind the curtain of political manipulation and lies and told it like it is. We are slaves. However much we don't like to put it that way, there is no way around it. A totalitarian regime is not distinguished by the severity of its regime, its terror and its concentration camps, but rather by the fact that it does not recognize in principle any limits to the legitimate exercise of its power, and that every sphere of its subjects' lives are proper aspects of state control. This is precisely what we have. We have made our government our god: all-wise, all-benevolent, all-powerful, and the source of our provision and safety. The reality is far otherwise, and the clouds are gathering so darkly that it is now almost impossible to fail to recognize that something is deeply wrong.
But we insist on limiting ourselves every four years to two candidates who only differ on irrelevant details and are perfectly unified on fundamentals: the size, scope and power of the state. The illusion of the choice that we are presented is between an eternity of illegal wars, domestic spying, and police state on the one hand, and an exploding welfare state and forced wealth redistribution on the other hand, all guaranteed by the force and violence of the state. More and more of these things are what we have to look forward to. Economically, our government has been a malignant cancer draining the incredible productivity of Americans for almost one hundred years now. By their own statistics, our dollar is worth 94% less than what it was in 1914 when the government in its infinite wisdom and benevolence saw fit to take over the management of it. And remember: that wealth did not disappear, it was stealthily redistributed to the politicians and their special-interest groups. The government manipulators and interventionists cause the bubbles and crashes, but to fix them they promise us more manipulation and intervention. The Austrian economists were the only ones to predict the Great Depression, the dot-com bubble, and now the housing bubble, but they are sneered at by establishment Keynesians and welfare statists. How bad is it going to get before we are willing to take them seriously? Pretty bad. Our combined national debt and unfunded social program liabilities are around $70 trillion now. Ron Paul thinks we can turn that around (not, of course, by more manipulation and government intervention, but by less). Perhaps we can. But the point is entirely academic, because no one else is even acknowledging the question, let alone offering an answer. There are economic laws in the universe, laws of supply and demand, cause and effect, even moral laws ("You shall not steal" which has been amended by our society to "You shall not steal, except by majority vote"). We have pretended there are no laws, but it's the day of reckoning, and the laws won't go away any more than the law of gravity will. What we have in Washington is the precise and specific government that our founding fathers intended to prevent. They did pretty well, for about a hundred years, which is a long time to withstand the attacks of the insatiable lust for power. In a free society, the people get the government they deserve, and if we don't turn it around real soon on this road we've chosen, no one is going to like the outcome. In 2008 we don't have a choice to make. Ron Paul offered us a real alternative, a few people listened, but it is not an alternative that is acceptable to the establishment statists, Republicans or Democrats. Buy this book. Read it. Get your friends to read it. Let the Revolution begin! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-11 12:34:29 EST)

I love freedom, and because of that I loved this book. Dr. Paul advocates for everything in which I believe, and which was advocated by the founders of the United States. I hope many people read this and are reminded (or taught) why we have a Constitution, and what it meant. We have abandoned it, but should people come to once again understand its importance through this book and others like it, perhaps we have a chance at restoring our freedom.

In "The Revolution: A Manifesto" Dr. Ron Paul, Congressman from Texas, presents a lucid and concise argument for a return to the principals upon which this nation was founded, Liberty and Freedom. This book will help to further explain his principals and ideas to a wider audience, although he was able to attract a wide range of followers during the campaign (even with the media blackout).
Containing only 7 chapters, this tome is still able to cover such topics as "The False Choices of American Politics", "The Constitution", "Civil Liberties and Personal Freedom", and "Money: The Forbidden Issue in American Politics" (just to name a few). In Chapter 1 Dr. Paul discusses the False choices we are presented with by the two major parties. When you sit down and read/listen to what they are truly presenting to us, there is little substantive differences between the two on a national level. Here is a quote "Even war doesn't really distinguish the two parties from each other. Hillary Clinton and John Kerry voted for the Iraq war. With the exception of Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel, even the Democrats who postured as antiwar candidates for the 2008 primary elections are not especially opposed to needless wars. They typically have a laundry list of other military interventions they would support..." ( page 2 ) This is what most American's have a hard time understanding, but many are slowly coming to realize. There is about a nickel's worth of difference between the two on a national level. In Chapter 3 Paul discusses at great length the Constitution and, if you read no other chapter in this book, please read chapter 3. "Americans must remember that the Constitution was designed not merely to prevent the federal government from violating the rights that later appeared in the Bill of Rights. It was also intended to limit the federal government's overall scope." If only more people understood this idea. Most of my students in Government class will tell you (at least early on) that the Constitution gives us our rights. Not only is this false, it is dangerous! Chapter 5 discusses Civil Liberties and Personal Freedoms, topics of great interest in this day and age. I could go on and on about how great this chapter is, but a few lines from the second paragraph will do much more than I ever could. "Government should respect our right to privacy rather than invading it on phony pretenses... And instead of trying to correct our bad habits at the point of a gun, it should defer to families and the normal channels of civil society to instruct people in moral conduct." (109) Dr. Paul hits the nail on the head. It is not the job of the government to correct our bad habits. It is here simply to protect our rights, as the Declaration of Independence says "To Secure our rights". As Paul says later on in the chapter, the Constitution was written to restrain government, not the people. I could go on and break down each chapter, but I just wanted to give you a brief overview of the book. Believe me, this book is well worth the few hours it'll take for you to sit down and read it. By the time it is over you too will be a member of the Ron Paul Revolution! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-10 00:34:52 EST)

Ron Paul is bipartisan in his book, leaving political affiliations at home. The book is an overview of contemporary U.S. policy, well written for the beginner, he doesn't get to technical with his explanations. He covers many important policy areas that the majority of Americans are left in the dark about. Not only does he identify the problems facing America but gives solutions that would be manageable if people would just come together. Some of the problems identified are; Federal Reserve, Inflation, Civil Liberties, America's War Machine, Health Care, Humanitarian Aid, and various other policies that pertain to every American. Well worth reading, especially considering it is an election year.

This is a book that every American should read. We need to make a stand now before we have everything taken away from us.We have lost to much freedom and can never get it back. This is a great country run by miss directed people. Our government is getting out of hand and way to big.

This book pulls no punches when confronting the popular social/political/economic "views" of the state-run media outlets. This was my first time reading any of Ron Paul's books, and I had only known of him through his campaign for Republican nominee for the upcoming Presidential election.
I have never rated a book on Amazon before, but I consider myself an avid reader. I hope many of my fellow Americans will read this book and be changed by it; I am recommending it to all my friends, family, and coworkers. I wish this could be a more insightful review, but I realize that the more I know, the more I realize how much I don't know. But this book has made me want to know more, and I think it may have the same effect on you. Wake up America, turn off the T.V., and pick up this book. The U.S. has a terminal disease and it takes a heavy dose of limiting the scope of our government to survive. Dr. Paul is the man with the prescription. The question is whether the country will take the medicine and recover or continue to ignore the symptoms and let the disease progress.

J. D. Seagraves review says what I would have written so I feel foolish repeating what was already said so well. PLEASE read his review.
What the book says that needs to be stressed is this is supposed to be a country of 'we the people', 'one person one vote', with an elected congress that has read the Constitution and knows what the Founding Fathers wanted. Deep down I think Ron Paul has started a revolution and like the original one, it may be slow starting, but it will grow and we all will owe a big thanks to Ron Paul. Am getting extra copies for my local library and have recommended it as a teaching tool for all the homeschoolers I know. We are a third generation homeschooling, libertarian minded clan. Who also has a Ron Paul bumper sticker on the car. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-06 21:01:25 EST)

Great introductory book to the ideas of freedom and limited government espoused by Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul, and apparently forgotten by both Barrack Obama AND John McCain. Sometimes, Dr. Paul can be a bit wonkish, but this book is written at a level that can be understood by almost anyone.

The Revolution: A Manifesto I read this to get a better idea of Ron Paul's phylosophy, as I had been on the fence about some of his positions. Out of any contemporary in politics today, I'd say Ron Paul is the closest I've ever seen to what our founding fathers intended a politician (or U.S. Citizen) to be. I'm disturbed by the entitlment society that has been created in this country. This Manefesto is one giant step in the right direction.... A must read for every American (especially those in politics).

Reading Ron Paul is like going from the depths of hell into Disneyland. I share his vision for a free America. Sadly few others do. I have given up any hope for America's future and simply ripped up my voter registration card and will not vote until others realize what we have lost in the last 20 years.

In his latest book, Ron Paul maintains that, if we are to have "real change" in this country, we must break free from the "artificial limitations" that are so often imposed by the political and media establishments on free debate. And to do that, he argues, we must "start asking serious questions once again," instead of allowing said establishments dictate to us what questions we're allowed to ask.
In chapter one he rightly points out how American voters are being given "false choices" every election season, since the policy agendas of the two major parties are far more similar than different. In his chapter on foreign policy, he takes neoconservatives to task for blurring the fundamental distinction between "isolationism and noninterventionism," and posits that it is actually they, not he, who are the "real isolationists," since they isolate the U.S. "in the court of world opinion by pursuing needless belligerence and war that have nothing to do with legitimate national security concerns." By engaging in such belligerence, Paul argues, our government has merely stirred up "hornet's nests," and thereby made us "more" vulnerable to attack "than we would otherwise have been." In chapter 3 he does an admirable job of explaining why Constitutional phrases such as "general welfare" and "necessary and proper" do not, in fact, give an "open-ended character" to the powers granted to Congress in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution. Nor, Paul correctly asserts, is there anything in the Constitution that allows Congress to "delegate" any of its powers to the executive branch. In chapter 4 Paul points out the multiple ways government engages in "legal plunder" -- whether directly through taxation or indirectly through "regulatory schemes" that protect politically-connected businesses from price-lowering competition. To that extent he is on solid ground. He is on very weak ground, however, when he parrots the Austrian school's fairy tale view of the Gilded Age (see Age of Betrayal: The Triumph of Money in America, 1865-1900 (Vintage), blindly denying that corrupt monopolies were defrauding or fleecing consumers, that laborers were (in many cases) being forced to work for slave wages, and that "giant corporations" were routinely and effectively engaging in anticompetitive behavior. He also makes the exaggerated claim that the American economy was "starved for capital" during that era, and that this was the primary reason so many people were poor, when the reality is that capital often sat idle due to land speculation-caused depressions (see Progress and Poverty: An Inquiry in the Cause of Industrial Depressions and of Increase of Want with Increase of Wealth... The Remedy). Fortunately, he returns to solid ground when he accurately characterizes organizations like the WTO and NAFTA as "government-managed trade schemes" that, as such, have nothing to do with "genuine free trade" The "civil liberties" chapter alone is worth the price of the book. Here Paul exposes how control-freak politicians, in the name of "protecting" us from terrorists, have waged a virtual terrorist attack of their own on the very "freedoms" for which Muslim extremists supposedly hate us; and proposes as a solution to this outrage the enactment of his "American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007." He also explains why the drug war is a failed, destructive and unconstitutional war, and why ending this war would greatly reduce if not eliminate many of the problems that countless people mistakenly attribute to drugs themselves. As one who both contributed to Ron Paul and voted for him in the primary, I'm sad to say chapter 6 is by far my least favorite chapter, and the main reason I couldn't give the book 5 stars. Although I agree with him that we urgently need to reform the current money system, I'm convinced, after reading this chapter, that he has a very limited understanding of both the nature and history of money (see The Lost Science of Money: The Mythology of Money, The Story of Power), and that this limited understanding causes him to advocate a deflationary cure that is actually far worse than the inflationary disease. Among the many facts he ignores (however unknowingly) are: * that the worst depressions in U.S. history (including the Great Depression) all occurred under his beloved "gold standard"; * that the average American was significantly poorer in 1932 than in 1928, even though the value of the gold-backed dollar was significantly higher in 1932 than in 1928; * that debt-based fiat money is fundamentally different from debt-free fiat money (see the documentary film, "The Money Masters"); * that money is uncreated whenever the principal of a bank loan is repaid, and that the money supply would therefore collapse -- and the economy along with it -- if everyone, including the government, got out of debt; and * that banks never create the money needed to pay the interest on all the money supply-expanding loans they make, and how this actually creates a built-in SHORTAGE of money. Those wishing to have a full understanding of the money issue (including how best to reform the current system) would be much better served reading Ellen Brown's masterwork, Web of Debt: The Shocking Truth About Our Money System and How We Can Break Free (Revised and Updated). The 7th and final chapter is mostly a summary of the previous six, and a stirring call to action. "The empire game our government has been playing," Paul concludes, "is coming to an end one way or another. This is the fate of all empires: they overextend themselves and then suffer a financial catastrophe....We are already seeing the pattern emerging in our own case. We can either withdraw gracefully, as I propose, or we can stay in our fantasy world and wait until bankruptcy forces us to scale back our foreign commitments. Again, I know which option I prefer." And so do I. Thank you, Ron Paul, for writing this book (even if you are innocently mistaken on the gold standard ;-)). (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-05 01:58:20 EST)

And so do I. Thank you, Ron Paul, for writing this book (even if you are innocently mistaken on the gold standard ;-)). (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-04 05:17:15 EST)

I am more than half-way thru the book and have not been disppointed. More importantly for me, though is that I asked my father to start reading it and he says he seems to agree with most of what Dr. Paul says., This is from a man who has, unfortunately been listening to Rush L. and O'Reiley and believes much of what he sees on FOX. His original impression of Paul was directly from FOX, he thought he was a nut. My mother had the same impression. They do not have access to the internet, so must get all their info from the mainstream media. However, he has recently become a history buff, reading all he can about the Constitution and the original framers of the Constitution, and I think he is ripe to "See the light". I thank Dr. Paul for all his efforts to turn this country around and inspire a new generation to realize how important the decisions we make now will affect our childrens' future.

Great Book. A must read for those who only receive their information from the talking heads of the liberal media. Ron Paul is a true American patriot, not the typical politican that only tells the public whatever it
wants to hear to get re-elected. As Paul states in his book, You've been lied to. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-30 04:11:45 EST)

Just finished reading it cover to cover; an amazingly insightful book. Couldn't have found a better book to have as my first amazon review. Already started recommending it to friends and family. Highly recommended.
Look at it this way; if the worst negative review was that he should have put it online for free so that even more people could read and enjoy it, then you know it's got to be good. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-30 04:11:45 EST)

America is now facing some big problems and is headed for a crisis. However, the prominent politicians and talking heads don't have a clue as to what the real problems are. It would be much better if they were focusing on the problems and coming up with the wrong solutions. But they don't even seem to know or care what the real problems are. Most of the news and talk is about the horse race and who is ahead in the race to secure power. The candidates "positions" are becoming even more watered down as the general election gets under way. If you want to know what the real problems are and don't want to be surprise by the seemingly inevitable outcome, read Ron Paul's book. I don't agree with him on everything and he could have left a few sections out of this book. However, on our foreign entanglements, the Federal Reserve and our debt based monetary system, he is right on. This book may be looked back on by historians as a warning that the American people were incapable of hearing. Is anybody listening?

Finally, a book that tells it like it is. Despite all of the differences in ideologies we all process, at the end of the day, we all lose if we let the political establishment continue their course. This book is not just about projecting an ideology - Instead, it's Constitutional basis is one of foundation linked to data and history. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to become educated and enter into healthy debate. I will never look at the central banks, the media, and industry the same way.

The Revolution - A Manifesto, by Ron Paul was, by far the best book I have read since I read Unintended Consequences. It outlines in detail the problems with our bloated, and unconstitutional, federal government. It describes how our foreign policy, monetary policy, and domestic policy are all intertwined and are easily analogous to a house of cards. In the book, Dr. Ron Paul describes the true root problems of the debacle which is our current federal government, as well as how this house of cards will either collapse, as on its current course, or how we as a people can dismantle it. The book is worth its weight in gold (pun intended) and every person, liberal or conservative, adult or child, should read the plainly obvious future of our country. Buy the book! Buy two, so you can share it with your neighbor.
The revolution has begun! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-28 02:19:25 EST)

This book is a 'must read' whatever your political beliefs may be. Ron Paul has the real answers to how our government should be. He's the 'whistle blower' for the truth.
It's really too bad America keeps choosing presidents that continue with the same old policies and nothing ever changes...nope, not even Obama with his "change" rhetoric. The only real change will come from a 'Revolution' from the American people. As Dr. Paul writes in his book, we have all the tools for a 'Revolution' and one must happen to bring this country back... Dr. Paul has planted the seed. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-28 02:19:25 EST)

Even if you don't like Dr. Ron Paul, or understand where he is coming from, you will like this book if you are interested in history or constitutional law. I wasn't sure what to expect, the title was a bit scary to me to be honest. However, within 5 minutes I was enjoying the audiobook, which is well recorded and read. There's lots of history and stories about constitutional law cases. I learned a lot about the constitution and the current political climate.

This was the first book I've read by Ron Paul, and it's a very good introduction for anybody interested him and the philosophy that motivates his views, as well as his votes and stances in congress. This book will help many people - as it already has - to better understand the philosophy of the founding fathers including noninterventionism as foreign policy, free market prosperity and a moral defense of the free market, the issue of monetary policy and how the federal reserve has negatively effected our currency, growth and prosperity directly through its interventions in the market, as well as the elimination of the gold standard among many other topics of great importance today. Let no person be kept from hearing the message of freedom, and the philosophy that a free society of individuals rather than one policed by a leviathan federal government can be prosperous and safe for its citizens.

The Revolution by Ron Paul is a refreshing vacation from the monotonous political discourses going on today. The most resonating of the books points is the trivial differences between the current 2 parties of power (dems and reps), how they position themselves to be so different from each other, yet end up debating insignificant disagreeances. For example, instead of questioning who should be paying this tax and that (an excerice which always seems to elicit hatred between classes), Dr. Paul asks the question, should we be paying this tax at all?
We appear to be on a threshold in this country... and the public is picking up on it. Confidence, and optimism, whether it be financial, career related, or in the government, continues to decline. We are slowly waking up to the fact that something is clearly not right. And that, really, is what this book is about. It's a questioning of policies that have long been in place. So long, in fact, that the public takes their presence for granted, even though in the grand scheme most of them are fairly young (like the FED, for example). He succinctly points out the problems we are facing, and how those relate to the policies we are taking for granted. Whether or not you believe in his proposed solutions, you should enjoy the primary purpose of the book.... to start a discussion on these critical issues before it is too late. I would say that every American should be required to read this book, but I want LESS regulations. So instead, I SUGGEST that every American read this book. Ron Paul is portrayed as a crazy person by the media... because the truth that he is preaching is detrimental to them. They have attempted to discredit and diminish him in order to silence his message.
But... the establishment cannot continue as it has for much longer. Something must change. Either the United States of America will cease to exist, or it will return to it's former glory. What happens is determined by WE the people. Educate yourself and join the revolution. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-23 02:15:33 EST)

This book ought to be mandatory for all middle school and high schoolers. It should be read by every American citizen or wanna be, and all parents need to make their children read it if they aren't getting it at school. It tells you the way this country was designed to be, versus how far off-track we have driven it. My vote for president will be a write-in for Ron Paul.

Former presidential candidate Ron Paul's "The Revolution: A Manifesto", is a small compendium of his philosophical and ideological positions regarding freedom and the State. It has the shortcoming of being a little too short. However, what it lacks in size it more than compensates with clear thinking and concise examples of why the Government always creates the very problems it sets up to "fix". Paul warns us about something more insidious than the good intentions of those that seek to govern us: the encroachment of our precious individual freedoms, especially our economic freedom, by way of currency debasement (the recourse of the tyrant for thousands of years), over-legislation and the fallacious idea that people "need" government. Dr. Paul drives across the point that it is the State, and not people, the very origin of conflict. Dr. Paul reminds us that it is through our freedoms and the free exercise of human action that things get done, and not because of government - it is people that invent things, that trade, and that make the world go around. Governments, instead, hinder, debase, encroach, steal and, especially during the 20th Century, kill, in greater numbers than any disease or disaster.
Paul is a strict Constitutionalist, a free-market and personal freedom advocate, the type of person one would want to have as a public servant: someone that makes sure his actions do not violate our personal freedoms and our right to life, property and liberty. If you are interested in liberty and in freedom, please, read this book. If you are instead a Statist, read it, and try to refute Paul's arguments, even if only as an intellectual exercise - I bet you will not be able to. It is becoming evident to most people that America is on the brink of a disaster. FDR is portrayed as a legend in America schools, while in reality he has probably done more harm, both economically, politically and morally, to the country than any other president. The Fed is portrayed (especially in K12 government schools) as some great mechanism that helps stem off financial bubbles that it in fact helps cause (I know, I have been to classrooms in which the teacher says this while proclaiming that the free market inherently has bubbles and that Jackson was a horrible man for opposing a central bank). And the government is portrayed as saving everyone from themselves and from the horrible conditions that existed before government intervention (I can remember a pointed lecture about the benefits of and justifications for child labour legislation that I latter found to be utterly false).
Some may accuse Ron Paul of voting in opposition to the moral principles he espouses. Yet he explains why not all his votes are 'beneficial' to the working man. Many of the legislative acts would actually hurt the 'working man', but they are postured to help the 'working man' by well place politicians. Take the various farm subsidy bills floating around, many are pitched as 'helping' to 'the poor middle America farmer' who is usually not poor and does not need the subsidies, which in either case the subsidies actually go to the rich, well-connected farmers that those who might actually need it. There are many other issues - such as free trade agreements (i.e. NAFTA) which he might vote against, not because he dislikes free trade, but because this particular implementation of it is actually harmful to freedom because it is not true free trade - where he votes in this manner because the law in question does much more harm than good. Lastly, why bring into question a man's voting record when he is spreading the ideas which a later generation with more political momentum can change? I only wish the major networks (CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc.) would actually report the news correctly and hire news anchors and reporters who had some economic or political teaching. The more I watch the news, the more I am sickened daily by their outright lies and deceit. It is time to do something about this, and Ron Paul is a true representative. Let us hope we will soon discover more House members being elected who share his sentiments. This is an amazing piece of work, happy to say I have already read some of his suggested reads, but will continue to read through the rest. I will surely borrow this book out to friends until it is worn, it is well worth the price of admission to be able to hopefully change at least one mind. As Dr. Benjamin Carson recently said in a speech, "America can become the first empire to reach the brink of collapse, but by the strength of its institutions, stave off and finally reverse that collapse and return to prosperity." And to do that, we need to revert back to what the Founding Fathers envisioned, a free America. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-23 00:48:03 EST)

Dr. Paul has the intestinal fortitude to tell America how we need to perform to remain a great nation. It is unfortunate that a slow slide down the easy road has conditioned even the most intelligent of us to settle for the status quo. As the greatest nation in history, we should demand our elected leaders be held accountable for the direction of our country. Ron Paul reminds us we are a nation of individuals who don't need a hand out, we need strong ethical leadership.

Ron Paul is a maverick U.S. Congressman whose career in Washington is marked by a consistent political philosophy and a voting record that is unmatched in the halls of Congress. Paul is one of the very few congressmen alive who votes according to the dictates of the Constitution and he is sometimes the only person in the entire congress to vote a certain way. His devotion to the U.S. Constitution is relentless, and he has voted against his fellow Republicans almost as often as he has sided in their favor.
Paul wrote this book to briefly supply his followers and other interested parties with some food for thought. Paul, as everyone knows, was a candidate for the U.S. presidency this year for the second time in his life (he ran for president as a Libertarian in 1988) and he developed quite a following among those who believe strongly that following the U.S. Constitution is not only a good idea, it is also the law. The Revolution: A Manifesto was written to recap Paul's positions on politics and his absolute devotion to the U.S. Constitution, This book devotes most of its pages to discussion of the U.S. Constitution and how far American has strayed from the wisdom of our founding document. This has been especially true since the election of George W. Bush to the U.S. presidency. Civil liberties, privacy rights, first amendment rights, and most everything else has gone out the window. Not only that, but the U.S. faces ever larger deficits and a revenue pool that cannot keep pace with the outflow of funds. Monetary and fiscal policies are in shambles, and the U.S. housing market is a mess. Paul realizes these things are true and he knows his fellow Republicans are to blame for much of it. Paul does not hold back his criticisms of members of his own party. If they deserve to be blamed, then Paul is right there, blowing the whistle on their continuous violations of the U.S. Constitution. Paul responds to many common questions hurled at him from his critics and his message in this book is sensible and thoughtful. Even though the book uses the word Revolution in its title, Paul isn't radical in his responses, unless you consider supporting the U.S. Constitution an act of rebellion. Paul simply feels that following the U.S. Constitution is the best way to govern. He rejects the concentration of power in the hands of the U.S. President and he longs for the day when the Constitution will be followed as closely as possible and freedom will be respected and protected. I like the way Paul includes separate chapters on economic freedom and personal freedom. When today's politicians speak about freedom, they are often referring only to the free enterprise system and the freedom to build wealth and live prosperously. But this is only part of the picture, as Ron Paul is quick to point out. Personal freedom is equally important, and it includes everything from the right to decide whom one will marry to the right to decide where to live, what to eat and drink, whether or not to be religious, whom to associate with, how to think, etc., etc. Too often, politicians pay lip service to these fundamental rights. A quick check of their voting records often reveals a completely different agenda that looks nothing like the political direction in which they claim to lead. Overall, The Revolution: A Manifesto is an excellent book about American foreign and domestic policy; where it has been heading over the past several years/decades and what needs to be done to change its course for the better. Ron Paul is unique among politicians, for he is one of only a handful of U.S. Congressmen who actually practices what he preaches; votes consistently in favor of the U.S. Constitution; and criticizes his own party without hesitation when they deserve it. His book would be even better if it was longer, but as it stands, it is still an excellent piece of writing on American Government and the actions that need to be taken to ensure freedom and prosperity for future generations.
