I purchased this book at the recommendation of a coworker. I returned it the next day. The book has some rather graphic pictures and is not all that informative. I found What to "Expect When You're Expecting" to be the best pregnancy related book. Even my fiance liked reading it.

This book covers everything from conception to bringing baby home to what you need to buy before the baby arrives. I would recommend this book to any mom to be at any stage of their pregnancy. This book also has full color pictures and shows the different stages of your baby week by week.

We purchased this book for our daughter who is expecting her first baby. The book is very informative. The pictures are wonderful and really show what is happening with her body and how her baby is forming. The new parents have read the book and refer to it regularly. As a librarian, I purchase parenting books for our collection and found this one to be excellent. I recommend it to expectant parents!

I bought this book when I was about to become a mother for the first time. I also bought two other books on pregnancy, that are the most recomended. This book is THE BEST BOOK ON PREGNANCY, It is very well organized, it is very informative, it is very descriptiv and ilustrated. In all other books, If you want to read a particular topic, you have to search trough every chapter, but in this one, everything is organized in chapters... One chapter for exercise, one chapter for food, one chapter for sex life, etc. I also like that this book is no very melow, the author gives you the information plain, and you can interpretate them as you want.
This book also gives you a lot of information on what might go wrong in pregnancy, while other books just assume that every pregnancy is perfect, and parents should go to see a doctor just to confirm that. In many cases, that is not true... Overall....I would recomend this book to every expectant parent!!!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-27 02:00:20 EST)

What initially attracted me to this book was that it has colour photos, not diagrams. Seriously, we are all adults and know how babies are made and can cope with photos which are much more informative than diagrams! This is consistent with the book's informative, factual content, nothing soppy or humerous.
I wanted to write a review with the book in front of me so I could outline it's topics but it has been 6mths and I haven't gotten around to it yet so I'm reviewing now from memory. Firstly a small thing: I do not like the title. I think it makes the book sound flippant, less good than it really is. It has no need to talk itself up using 'bible' in the title because it is a really good book. I found that this is a good reference book but you do need to look elsewhere for more detailed info. For example when I caught a cold I wanted to check the ingredients in cold medications to see what, if anything, I could take. This book did not have any info but The Mother of All Pregnancy Books has a list. (I do not refer to that book as much as this one). I looked up a list of high mercury fish online. The two parts of this book I refer to every week, describe: (1) (with photos) the baby's week by week development ie skeleton, lungs, brain, hearing etc. There is a paragraph of info per week and the approx length and weight are listed. It is very informative and straightforward. (2) A timeline, in weeks, of changes to my body. This is really only a few words per week mentioning darkening nipples, digestion slowing or feeling warmer than usual. It is brief but tells you some things you may or may not experience around this time. A nice touch to this part are that there are several side-on photos of a naked woman so you see her belly growing as the timeline progresses. Later in the labor section she is pictured with her newborn which is nice. There is a section on labor & delivery and a section on caring for your newborn but I have not read them yet. Also covered are the biology of the conception process, healthy eating and foods to avoid, exercising, travel, keeping up appearances, taking care of yourself. Sorry, without it in front of me I don't remember as I do not refer to these sections (except the food and exercise sections when I am trying to motivate myself to do the right thing!). There is a chapter for Dads but my hubby has his own book (The Expectant Father) which is excellent. I highly recommend this book as a no-nonsense, easy to read reference book. The info is straight forward, non-judgemental and the author is not trying to be your friend or make jokes. It is pleasing to read. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-28 09:59:52 EST)

I'm looking to get pregnant and this book has given me such ease about getting there. It explains step by step what the process is from week to week. It breaks down what's happening to you in terms you can understand. Also, it addresses a lot of concerns that you may have. Highly recommended for new Mommies-to-be or looking to be a Mommy (like me)!

This is a great book. It is a very visual book and contains many chapters that are filled with information on diet, body changes, fatherhood, exercise, baby development, weekly break downs, etc. I was looking for other books and stumbled across this one. It is the only book you need if you are a first time parent. It is very easy to understand and follow along.

Like some of the other reviewers this was not my first pregnancy guide. I found this one to be written in a much more mature voice, with the guidance I was hoping for, combined with a whole bunch of full color pictures. It doesn't seem like that would be all that important, but it really makes a difference. It was like going from reading a novel about a woman telling me things she felt were important for me to know to reading a textbook for my non-credit course on pregnancy.
Maybe that doesn't sound ideal to everyone, but I actually wanted to learn something from the book I was reading, not just get taken along for the ride. The Pregnancy Bible has a small timeline, week by week, in addition to a logically organized body, followed by a few appendices on maternal and infant symptoms. There is also a newborn section, giving a little insight into the "other" side of pregnancy. This book will be with me throughout the rest of my childbearing and child-rearing years. This book is EXCELLENT.. it has 99.9% of everything and anything- from getting pregnant in the first place all the way to birth and beyond... it gives a weekly planner with what is going on with your body and another weekly planner with what is going on with the baby, gives different birthing options, warnings, rolls of partners and gives them an understanding of their part and also has a section if you are a single mom and how to find support needed- which I thought was nice... things to watch for and enjoy, breast feeding, and just really explains everything simply! To be honest, I love the layout of this book and how material is presented.. (I absolutely hated what to expect when expecting...) A very well thoughtout book and material.

This book has all you need to know about pregnancy and taking care of your newborn. I especially like how they did not leave out the role of the father, there is a whole chapter dedicated to fathers along with information for him in other chapters.
This is the one and only pregnancy book I had to buy, it covers almost everything any other book on pregnancy covers. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-08-27 01:49:34 EST)

This book is actually informative for both the Mom and Dad to be. I'm a dad to be and I've bought several of books for me and the wife, of course. I've bought the obvious ones, but this one actually has things in it that will give you information rather than trying to make a horrible joke or wasting your time with nonsense (Just give me the info, I don't want to waste brain cells on bad writing and horrible jokes). In my opinion this is the best book out there for expecting parents. Of course it isn't "the manual" that we all want, but it is helpful and better than most.

Me and my husband both loved this book.
Its well organized, has a fluid writing, and it isnt confussing at all. We loved the week by week development of the baby and the pregnant mother. It kept us on our toes, looking out for new developments, and it excited us, helping us to understand what was going on at every stage of the pregnancy. We really recommend this book for all first timers!!!! Good luck, and hope this was useful! Have a great day! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-31 03:21:09 EST)

I must have received at least five different pregnancy books as gifts, and this one was the one I ordered for myself. I liked the pictures and the information was pretty helpful. Much of the information overlapped with the babycenter e-mails. It's a good overview, but I think you need to do your own research if you wanted more depth about some topics.

This is a great book! I am expecting my first and even though I already know alot about pregnancy from all the women in my family I found this book to be very informative and easy to read. The illustrations are great. I have really enjoyed reading it. It even has a part for the Father to be. Now if I could only get my husband to read it. I recommend this book to any woman expecting. Another book that alot of woman in my family recommend is "What to expect when your expecting" That is the next book I will be reading.

It took us a little while to get pregnant. While we were trying I gathered a collection of pregnancy books -all the ones you hear about all the time. When we finally did get pregnant -I picked up all those other books and found that none of them were helpful. Many were biased, scary, difficult to read and not well organized.
So I went in search of a book that would be a resource for information, without telling me how to do things or scaring me. This is that book! I love it -it is so well organized, with references for the statements that are made and additional resources for more information. It's easy to read and presents the information that I want - there is a separate section for complications, so I don't need to get freaked out unless I go looking. I also loved the actual photographs - real photos of real women with all the symptoms and changes during pregnancy. That was so much better than a drawing. Some people may not like the actual full color photos, but I do. So far it is the only book that I go back to when I need information. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-10 12:44:34 EST)

There's not much more to add. Everyone loves this book for a reason. It costs a bit more than some of the pregnancy books but it clearly outshines similar resources on the market.
When a friend announces that she's pregnant--this is the gift I give. It's more valuable to an expecting mom than any baby clothes or baby gadgets normally given at showers. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-03-15 13:39:20 EST)

When I found out that I was pregnant, I was aprehensive about what to do and what to avoid. One of my friends let me borrow the book while I was pregnant and I read it from cover to cover. The pictures and the descriptions helped to apease some of my ever-building curiosity. Now that one of my friends is expecting I have suggested the book to her as well.

For my first pregnancy I tried to get as much information as possible to help me with all of the trials and tribulations of pregnancy. I bought a TON of books including the What to Expect.... series and was disappointed in most of the information I found, until I found The Pregnancy Bible! This book gives information about every aspect of pregnancy, from what happens at the time of conception to bringing your newborn home and figuring out how to adapt. This gave scientific information without feeling like you're reading a science text book. I HATED the "What to Expect" series because I felt like all of the information in the book dealt with old wives tales and not facts. This book was a GOD SEND! I highly recommend this to any of my friends of family going through the roller coaster ride of pregnancy, this is a great companion to help understand everything your body is going through! I LOVE THIS BOOK!

I bought this book for a 19 yr. old woman who is pregnant for the first time and has limited resources. I wanted to get her something that would not skirt around frank, graphic information but would offer her answers to questions she might not even know to ask. I didn't want to send her something saccharine, cute, or sentimental but rather something really useful.
She raved about the book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-01-24 01:59:43 EST)

I gave this book to my daughter for Christmas who had just announced her first pregnancy. The name bible is so appropriate! I bought this when I first found out I was pregnant. I have since miscarried and haven't really used the book as much as I intended too. When I first received it I poured over it and found there to be a lot of great information. I was disappointed to learn after miscarrying that there is no information about miscarriage or how to cope with that.

I bought this book and was given "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and found that the "Pregnancy Bible" is way better. As this is my first pregnancy, I had no idea what to expect. This book has been absolutely the best at answering all of my questions. I especially like the weekly breakdown of pregnancy that lets you know symptoms and baby developments.

I am lucky enough to live inNYC and I had the opportunity to see Dr. Keith Eddelman in the Maternal Fetal Health Dept (working with high risk mothers) when I had a scare and had to go to Labor and Delivery to rule out pre-term labor. He was clear and reassuring. I have to say the book is absolutely just how he and his partner work. The explanations are clear and easy to understand. The authors bring up difficult topics (miscarriage, AFP and Down Syndrome) without scaring the living daylights out of you. I had "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and I was so anxiety ridden that my Dr. told me to get rid of the book. I was glad I did and I got more pertinent information with "The Pregnancy Bible" without the huge scare. I really recommend it. Even if you're not pregnant, I recommend you buy it just so you have a clear idea of how your body works.

Follows through from conception to after the pregnancy and caring for your newborn. Offers info on physical and emotional changes...for mother, father, and the siblings of the newest addition. Excellent pictures and graphics of treatments, the growing baby week by week, and mother info week by week. Missing some detailed info, but overall, great to refer to for all your maternal and paternal needs.

The information in the book is very useful. However, a few of the photographs are a little too much for my conservative tastes. For example, do we really need actual photographs of how to make love when we are pregnant, couldn't we just have a written description? So, like I said, the information is good, but it is not a book I want my children to stumble upon. In the end, I wish I would have chosen another book that also had updated info but without the actual photographs.

I looked at many books during my pregnancy and this was by far the best. I found it an easy read and my husband (who doesn't like to read) also loved it. I thought it was very easy to find things when I had questions. Will use it again for my next pregnancy as well. I bought this book long before I got pregnant, even before I got married. Why? I found it very informative flipping through it at my favorite bookstore. And was I glad I bought it when I finally got married and got pregnant.
This book is a must for any pregnant mom. It covers everything, very well illustrated and very easy to read. It's the bomb, really. I recommend it with all my heart...it's worth the money (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-10-27 02:53:44 EST)

I was looking for a book about pregnancy so I would know everything to expect that my wife would be going through. Most of the pregnancy books for fathers were pathetic, so I tried to find the most comprehensive book about the whole process that was written for anyone. This is the book. It truly is "the bible" of pregnancy information.
