The PowerScore LSAT Logic Games Bible

The PowerScore LSAT Logic Games Bible is the most comprehensive book available for the Logic Games section of the LSAT. The intent of this book is to provide you with an advanced system for attacking any game you encounter on the LSAT. This same system is covered in the live classes taught by PowerScore, and all of the methods and techniques discussed in the book have been tested in classroom situations over many years.

The book features and explains a detailed methodology for attacking the games section. All aspects of Logic Games are covered, from recognizing game types to diagramming rules to making inferences and answering questions. Entire chapters are devoted to the most advanced game techniques and to time management strategies.

Logic Games are divided into individual types, and a discussion follows that teaches you how to approach each type of Game, and drills are presented to help you apply and understand the techniques. Thereafter, real LSAT logic games are used to illustrate how the techniques apply to real tests. Using real LSAT questions is a must for high-level LSAT preparation, and twenty-one real LSAT logic games are contained in the book. Each logic game is accompanied by a detailed analysis of the game setup and related questions.

The author has over 12 years experience teaching the LSAT and has scored in the 99th percentile on a Law Services-administered test. An expert in LSAT preparation, he has overseen the preparation of thousands of students and founded two national LSAT preparation companies.

The Logic Games Bible can be supplemented by The Ultimate Set-Ups Guide, which features setups for every game in each released LSAT from 1995 to 2002. Also, both books provide access to a unique website for additional LSAT and Logic Games information, and has answers to frequently asked questions.

I am a BIG fan of power score products. I utilized this series for GMAT and now for LSAT and each time I saw results. I am fortunate to have a small budget to purchase these basic prep books and followed a stringent 3 month self study plan (I didn't have 1500 to spend on a professional prep program) and I did well on the test. It takes focus , discipline and great prep books, such as POWER SCORE! Logic Games can be scary...the first time I did a pre test I almost cried when I tried to do a LG but after getting through this book LGs became somewhat fun and toward the end of my studying they were a relief from all that READING for the rest of the LSAT sections. This book is a life saver...for anyone who seems LG as a struggle...I have worked through all the other prep books out there and hands down this is the ONLY book worth its weight for LG. I also recommend buying the workbook (white cover). Work your way through the bible do a few lsac preptests then mid-way through your plan work through the workbook as a refresher.

I have probably purchased just about every LSAT prep book out there and I have to say that this one is the best. The only downside is that it uses actual LSAT questions, which means when I'm doing a simulation exam with a real LSAT, I might have already seen the question so I don't feel I get true results.

The tactics and strategies are great and I like how it goes through everything step by step and provides you with drills to practice each strategy before implementing. If you have to buy just one book to help with the logic games, I would suggest this one.

I love this book. I have tried many prep books for the LSAT. Kaplan was ok but Powerscore is wayyyyyy better. I've already taken the LSAT once being prep by the Kaplan books. i did ok. But since i have been studying with the Powerscore books i've learned so much more!!!It's better because it breaks down each section of the LSAT test per book. Other prep books try to explain the entire LSAT test in one book. You can't do that effectively. Powerscore creates one book per section and break it down giving you valuable tips!!! And the tips are easy to remember!! Plus i love the practice drills in the books. VERY BENEFICIAL!! Get the book!! It's worth it!!

(Hide Review...)  great book, lots of questions, compiles approaches in other books..
Reviewer Permalink
This book is a little pricey, but worth it if the games/analytical reasoning section is your weakest section.

The question compiles all the approaches in other books (I've used Princeton Review and SuperPrep). The approaches are termed differently (because companies need to differentiate themselves to sell books). As long as you don't bog yourself down with terminology which isn't testing, and stick to understanding the concepts and approaches, you'll be fine.

The book includes questions to test your grasp of individual concepts, as well as official LSAT questions (referenced by date and year of exam; this helps you keep track of which questions you've done, and saves you money you would otherwise spend on buying individual tests online). You also get detailed explanation sections for each set of questions. Many may find this unnecessary but I've benefitted from learning different/more efficient test-taking strategies in the explanation sections of questions I found most challenging.

Overall, I think this book is worth buying because the games section is all about practice, practice, practice and this book provides just that - using real LSAT questions. The more questions you see, the more familiar you get with approaches to questions, the better and more efficient you are. My book has flags and tabs all over it so i can revisit questions and sections closer to test date. I've used it to the max. After putting in quality time with this book, I can confidently say that my scores and confidence level have improved dramatically after initially testing in the 150s. Whether you have a couple of weeks or a few months, this book will help!

A friend of mine who attends one of the top Law Schools recommended this book to me. It was tremendously useful in helping me prepare for the LSAT. It's very comprehensive, yet it's well written and well organized so you don't get bogged down. Even though I would get through a big chunk of content at a time, it was time well spent. I finished the book in 2 weeks. Logic games were never a weak point for me, but if nothing else, you can always learn to do them faster! SPEED is key! All it takes it practice and some tricks (both of which this book helps you with).

This book is God's gift to man. I took a $1500 prep course but my score on the logic games section refused to go up. Then I purchased this book and it changed my life. But the key is that you gotta take actual practice exams and learn by applying these strategies to actual LSAC lsat exams. Same thing goes for LSAT scientist statistical strategies; you can only learn that stuff by applying it to actual LSAT exams. With these two tools my score was raised significantly on the LSAT exam. Killoran you are the greatest.

Although I do not recommend my study methods to everyone, I can say that this book was incredibly helpful in teaching me everything I needed to know about how to set up and approach the logic game section of the LSAT in under two weeks. The only games I did not agree with the setup on were the pure sequencing games. For sequencing, this book offers an interesting rule simplification into ordering method process whereas the way I found easiest was the Princeton Review/Atlas Prep (and possibly many others) method of creating a sequence "tree" which hinges on the incredible "zig-zag" rule. In the end though, I think this book gave me the confidence I needed to walk into the testing room ready to go. Definitely a good purchase.

I was told that Powerscore was one of the best books to use to study for the LSAT. I have been doing the games in this book and recently took an LSAT prep test and scored 100% of the three Logic games that I was able to finish. I take that as a good indicator that the book helps.

I bought this book when I was about 9 weeks into a Kaplan LSAT prep class and I just wasn't making the progress I wanted to, in Logic Games. Felt I needed extra practice and some kind of change in the way I was approaching the problems. This was really well-reviewed on Amazon... so I bought it.
THANK GOODNESS I DID! My scores on the LG sections of the test rose from low 70th percentile to high 80's/low 90's. I literally went from missing 5-6 questions to missing 2-3, every time. I was particularly pleased with the way the book teaches you to approach the games: it shows you how to confidently attack every problem you will face... and for me, that was key.
I was so impressed with this book that I also ordered The Logical Reasoning Bible; I'm only 1/5 of the way through that one and already see subtle differences in the way I'm performing on that section of the test.
The books are well laid out, with the concepts clearly, simply explained. There are plenty of drills and the explanations are detailed and extremely helpful. I really can't recommend this highly enough.

After taking an entire Kaplan course -- which I don't recommend at all -- this is book is the best preparation I have seen anywhere. It simpilifies the games by giving you fundmental ways of attacking all games, and it describes to the reader the strategy of the TEST MAKERS. So you can learn how to think as TEST TAKER and conquer the Logic Games portion of the L-Sat. Awesome book. I can't recommend it enough.

With this book and the Logik Games setup guide I got every single Logic Games question right on the June LSATs! I didn't think I could possibly do that. Those two books and lots of tedious practicing (do every single practice LG section you can get your hands on, and do them over and over again) ingrained the patterns of these games onto my brain, and I went into the test and I was in the zone. Do NOT use any books that utilize fake questions, there is no point to them!

This is the best book on the LSAT logic games section. I was consistently getting 4-5 questions wrong on the logic games section until I utilized this book. It was amazing as it gives a cumulative review of all the different types of logic games found on the LSAT. While prepping for the Oct LSAT, I have reviewed test prep material from all major companies and only two things have worked for me one is this Powerscore Logic games bible and the second is lsatnerd statistical strategies.

I don't know what I was expecting when I bought this book (Powerscore books are a considerable investment), but if you want to master the Logic Games, BUY IT! I can literally score perfectly on the whole Games section at 8 minutes a question (typical partitioning is 8 min 45 seconds). Before, I could only do from 14-18 questions in the whole section. Question types are broken down with not-too-easy and relevant sample problems.

I'm also currently taking a Kaplan LSAT course, and I find that the methods used are a bit basic and not all that helpful when it comes to the more difficult games. But, the course isn't over, and it's good that I get to review a bit and see the structure of the games from the perspective of those who deconstruct it for a living.

My tips: TIME YOURSELF. Devote actual time to understanding the points the author makes so that you can apply it throughout the book and onto the actual LSAT! Good luck!

... now to concentrate on the other sections...

First the numbers: I went from scoring only about half correct on the games section both before and after Princeton Review. After PowerScore, I consistently scored between 20/22 to 24/24 on game sections on LSAC Released PrepTests.

After hearing mixed reviews about Kaplan, I took courses with Princeton Review. My first diagnostic was abysmal, but with subsequent tests they increased incrementally. I must say that Princeton helped, but it did not deliver the way I wanted it to. If you are the type of student that needs instruction to stay focused, then a course with Kaplan or Princeton might help (though law students require an absolutely dedicated mindset outside of the classroom as well as in it!) But if you learn just fine on your own, then shelling out a thousand dollars or more on a course is more of a scam if you are expecting dramatic increases. Buy Powerscore materials (and LSAC SuperPrep books) and devote yourself to hours of self study!

Here's my situation:

The Analytical Reasoning (Games) is the hardest section for most of us, and it was this section that was keeping my scores down.

I heard that it's best to try different approaches to the LSAT. A friend swayed me away from Kaplan. I was already frustrated with Princeton Review. Three-quarters of my way through Princeton Review, I got a steady, but still mediocre score on a diagnostic. I had enough and felt my hours of study with Princeton were a waste.

I turned to Powerscore. It wasn't as well known, but it had great reviews. After paying the big bucks for Princeton's class, a used copy of the Logic Games Bible didn't seem so bad.

Powerscore breaks down the games more than Princeton Review does. Upon first opening the Logic Games Bible, I thought the first few chapters would be review. I thought I would skim them since Linear Games and Grouping Games were already covered by my Princeton Review course. But what ended up happening was I was exposed to how much detail Princeton Review lacked. The first couple chapters of the Logic Games Bible taught me more about the games than Princeton Review did in three-quarters of its entire course.

The Logic Games Bible shows you what Powerscore does correctly and its competitors (Princeton and Kaplan) do incorrectly. For example, they totally undermine the entire "grid" system propagated by Princeton Review. It points out the flaws of Kaplan's and Princeton's approaches. It took major adjusting for me at first, but in the end it helped tremendously. Powerscore's method looks barren and skeletal, but in actuality, it's far more intuitive and time-saving. Of course, there are many ways to approach games, but let's be real! Some ways are better than others, and Powerscore's ways are by far the best I've seen.

Each chapter is devoted to a specific game type and each game type is broken down systematically. Drills are used to reinforce your skills to the smallest detail, and actual LSAT games are used at the end of each chapter to tie it all together. What I absolutely loved about the book is the way it explains all the right and wrong answers in such detail that it makes Kaplan and Princeton seem unworthy of your money.

When you take a look inside the Logic Games Bible, you may be intimidated. There is a lot of pure reading. The way Powerscore diagrams rules and situations may seem unfamiliar and rudamentary. But when you are actually DOING it all, you'll wonder why you even gave Princeton or Kaplan a chance. The Logic Games Bible is a cut-and-dry, "no B.S." approach that has one goal in mind = dramatic increases in your score.

Kaplan and Princeton might get you (on average) a 5 point increase in your score. Yes, each student/test taker is different and requires different needs, and each will have a different outcome from whatever method they choose. But I don't think $1000 for just an average increase is worth it. This book, Powerscore's Logical Reasoning Bible, the LSAC SuperPrep materials, and hours of self-enforced study time is the way to go for effective (and cost-effective) LSAT preparation.

After this book, games seemed more intuitive and (gasp) almost fun. The book is definitely a confidence booster. In the my last diagnostic exam under Princeton, I was apprehensive. I thought, I shouldn't be so apprehensive about games three-quarters through the course when I should have learned most of the ins and outs of this section! After Powerscore, this was no longer and issue.

I should stress: You MUST be prepared to devote hours to this book. I'd recommend going through the Games Bible (and the Logical Reasoning Bible) at least twice each a couple months before the test.

Logic Games is usually the section most people have the toughest time with on the exam. It's not that LG questions are particularly hard- if given enough time, I'm sure most reasonably intelligent people could get them all right. The problem is they don't give you enough time on the exam- inevitably, you get hung up trying to figure out one game and miss those questions, and then have to rush to finish the other games. I consider myself a "good standardized test taker" and this section was killing my practice test scores. Until, that is, I bought this book.

This book will teach you the different game and question types, how to diagram them and make efficient use of your time. I went from getting up to 14 wrong on LG to scoring 100% on the exam, I finished with 5-7 minutes to spare.

This review may sound overly effusive, but I can't stress enough how important this book was in the grand scheme of things. For less than fifty bucks and an hour a night for a few weeks, I scored in the top 1% and I'll be attending a T6 in the fall.

This book makes the logic games section of the LSAT so much more difficult than it needs to be. It got so many great reviews, so it seemed like it might be worthwhile...but all it did was make me more anxious about this section of the test. Granted, logic games are challenging for many people (myself included), but this book does nothing to demystify these "games". Instead, the book comes up with all sorts of "methods" and "theories" that are supposed to help you to identify game types and has you spending hours and weeks and months trying to learn specific ways to solve each game type. In my opinion, the game type doesn't matter at all -- the answer is always in the setup, if you pay enough attention. Perhaps if you have enough concentrated time to sit down and go through the book and learn the methods, maybe it might help your score. But that's a big maybe. Needless to say, I was disappointed in this book, and I think it is a complete waste of money and time.

I actually feel pity when I find anyone trying to do the games section without using Powerscore's strategy. I first began preparing for the LSAT in December 2008 by taking a 6 week course offered by Kaplan for $1299. Upon completing this class, I took the February 2009 LSAT and I did horrible, particularly on the games - I finished the first two, and was stumped on the last two. I'm thoroughly convinced that my poor performance in the games accounted for my 150, so when I began studying once again, I knew that I'd have to target the games section. I bought this book after reading the VERY helpful reviews on this website and others, and after the first chapter, I knew that this book would be the best $64.99 I had ever spent.

I was right! This book helped me set up the games in the most clear and concise ways that seemed so much more intuitive and simpler than what Kaplan told me to do. I'm convinced that had I used these methods on the games in February, I would have been able to solve the last two games without a hitch and been totally fine. Now, I'm taking timed tests and ANNIHILATING the games sections - a minimum of 20 questions correct.

I'm also getting the questions done a lot faster, and I think that has to do with the way that PowerScore has you diagram the rules. The diagrams are very clear and do not confuse me, whereas the Kaplan methods called for charts and grids that just confused the heck out of me. These clear diagrams help me deduce the correct answers MUCH more quickly and I'm able to fly through the easier questions to spend a little more time on the tougher ones.

Overall, great investment. If games isn't your favorite section now, then after completing this book, you'll wish the whole test was nothing but games!

I purchasead this book because other bloggers said it was better than the Kaplan set...and I have to agree...I originally purchased the Kaplan book and used it a little...this book really IS better and DEFINITLY worth the money. It Introduces all the ideas at a slow pace and gradually scaffold on top of each old idea to introduce the "new" one. With each step, it does not assume you know anything and breaks it down in great detail. then it starts you off slow with a drill to test your ability to SET UP the question, without the pressure of having to deal with the questions just yet...they let you tackle one thing at a time. Then they move onto a full example that actually comes from an actual LSAT.

Overall, I really feel as though this is a GREAT book, and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking to prepare themselves for the LSAT.

I immediately ordered this book after working through the Kaplan's Logic Games workbook for a bit. I just the Powerscore one today and I can already say that it's a lot better than the Kaplan book. The Kaplan book had many editing errors (primarily mixed up answers), which made it very confusing to someone who is just starting to study for the LSAT. The explanations and strategies were somewhat hard to understand as well. I also feel that it doesn't provide enough practice problems so that you know you entirely grasp the concepts.

The Powerscore book, on the other hand, has really clear explanations. I really like that it gives you literally step by step practice on solving the logic games. It's also more detailed than the Kaplan book, and there are notes at the margins, which I thought were really helpful. It gives you small hints here and there on what to look out for while solving the games. I also like that the book is "honest," meaning it pretty much says "If you don't do this, then you won't get the question" and it also encourages you to read each and every explanation for the correct and incorrect answers.

I highly recommend this book.

I've been studying for the LSAT and so far I've taken three practice tests. I took one about a year ago, I took one two weeks ago right before starting this book, and I took one a few days ago after reading through to chapter 8 in this book.

I found the book entertaining and was actually able to sit down and study it fully and for longer amounts of time (something that is a rare occurrence for me). I actually found myself wanting to read this book and study for the LSAT instead of doing my regular homework. It's a very good motivator.

Regarding my score increase:
I got a 158 on the practice test last year. I got a 158 on the practice test I took before reading this book. I got a 163 on the practice test I took after chapter 7.

Of only the test I took before reading this book and after reading most of this book:
The first test: I got 9 out of 24 logic game questions right (about 37.5%)
The second test: I got 16 out of 24 logic game questions right (about 66.7%)

I think I should also mention that before this book I ran out of time before getting to seven of the questions. After this book I had extra time on the section (but I didn't go back through and check my answers. I may have increased my score further had I done so).

I plan to continue on with some of the other PowerScore books, staring with the Logical Reasoning Bible. I also highly recommend using this book in conjunction with the LSAC prep test books (the practice tests that I took immediately before this book and during/after this book were LSAC tests. The test I took last year was a Kaplan test).

This seems to be the first choice of most people, but I found the other books (particularly the Examkracker's) to be just as good, and for less money. This book certainly had a good methodology. I don't think you'd regret buying it, but I don't think it was significantly different from other books. This book seemed better for setting up solving difficult problems in a timely basis; the Examkracker's book seemed better at solving lots of easier problems quickly, which may be better for some people.

(Hide Review...)  The Cornerstone of LSAT Preparation

The LSAT Logic Games Bible is absolutely exceptional and should be the cornerstone of all LSAT preparation. When I first started preparing for the LSAT, I felt timid and, frankly, scared of the Logic Games section. I loved doing these types of games as a kid in high school, but the methodology for approaching these games in the LSAT is radically different. At first, this book seemed daunting and swimming in minutia, but by the 350th page, I really felt comfortable doing almost all types of Logic Games, albeit at my own pace and not at 8 minutes, 45 seconds each.

Seriously, if you buy one book in preparation for the LSATs, buy this. Buy it at least three weeks before the test - don't draw your studying out for any longer than that unless you enjoy such things. Pair it with an LSAC prep book with ten actual tests (like this one: 10 More Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests (Lsat Series)) and you are, most definitely, as set as you can be.

A little pricey, but that is the cost of going to law school. I like the book, but it is not a replacement for a good solid prep course.

As a professional LSAT tutor/blogger, I've seen students literally go from only 10 or 11 right on the games section to 18 or 19 right, and above, after working with me out of this book. The drills and the diagramming techniques that this book provides are incredibly useful. I recommend this book to all of my students.

As someone who did not take a class but relied on prep books to study for the LSAT, I highly recommend this book. A friend recommended it to me as being a must-have, and I completely second that. The logic games is perhaps the most intimidating section of the LSAT, and I was completely clueless as to how to approach this section. This book breaks down all the different types of games that might appear on your LSAT by section, offering an explanation and example of the type of game and tons of drills (from preliminary to practice questions). Practice, practice, practice! I found that this book completely worked for me, and I ended up actually finding the logic games kinda fun after I was through! Explanations are thorough and easy to understand, and all the drill sets and questions from previous LSATS ensure that you get all the practice you need. If you're struggling with logic games, this book is a must to have in your arsenal of prep work.

Instead of typing a paragraph, I'll do a bullet point review to make this review more readable.

Pros of this Book
* A lot of good information can be had here if you're willing to read
* Very useful info on proper diagramming techniques
* The drills throughout the chapters help with learning the application of techniques
* The organization is excellent in this book. The most common game types are at the front of the book while the more obscure game types are in towards the back of the book
* The drill explanations are detailed. The most important thing to do is to look over drills/questions and learn why answers are correct or incorrect and where you messed up if you got a question wrong.

Cons of this Book
* The author at times wrote too much to make a simple point. It can be daunting to read due to the needless text making the reader want to skim
* This book is expensive, so one has to budget carefully to make room for this book
* The use of actual LSAT questions can end up tainting one's practice tests
* The tone of the author can be haughty at times (I don't mind, but others probably would). The author suggests some techniques for diagramming and time management as if it were the best when people have to develop their own style. The author also attacks other prep books and companies needlessly.
* Some of the techniques are good, some are too impractical to be useful. Using hypotheticals to answer questions would eat up too much time during the real test.
* There are some typos throughout the book. Nothing that makes the book unreadable, but it can be annoying at times.

All in all, this is a good book for learning the basics of LG. If you do well on LG already, then this isn't worth a purchase, but if you're like me and struggle with LG, then this is a worthy purchase. Of course, buying PTs and other similar study aids are far more important, so don't make this your first purchase, especially if you haven't taken a couple diagnostics first. This book is too expensive to buy without KNOWING if you need it.

When I took my first practice LSAT I received a 145. My weakest section was the logic games, but after reading this book it became my easiest section. I recently took the June 2008 LSAT and received a 153- not bad if you are looking for mediocre schools, and received 21 of 23 on the Logic Games section. I know a lot of fellow LSAT takers who have problem with this portion of the LSAT and the books they read have all of these wacky, difficult to understand diagrams.
This prep book gives you clear, and easy instructions that become like second nature with enough practice. I probably studied for less than a month with the Logic Games bible. Oh, and I do plan on taking the upcoming October LSAT and using the Logical Reasoning Bible(same company, must be good right?) along with anything I can find on reading comprehension!

The PowerScore LSAT Logic Games BIble (LGB) has been an invaluable resource as I prepare for the LSAT. Although I am attending a prep course, I also use the LGB for additional assistance. The Games Logic Bible contains problems and thorough explanations to right AND wrong answers. Once you get into the groove of tackling the questions, it's sometimes difficult to put down the book. Coupled with the class, I feel confident that this additional resource will help me excel on the upcoming exam.
