After the last few books in this series I was only really continuing to read because I like the characters so much. But with this addition to the Rachel Morgan series not only was I impressed, I was delighted at how good it was. so many unexpected twists and turns I never could guess what was happening next. By the end I was screaming "OMG ! When's the next one?!"

I like this series enormously, because I love the main character and I especially love the demons: no little foot-stamping fire-breathing horned homunculi, these; no, these are immortal, intelligent, horridly efficient beings that have very specific goals and go about trying to accomplish them -- and god help you if you get in their way. The nice thing about this series is that's exactly how Rachel is, and it makes for great conflict whenever she gets into it with the demons -- which is pretty much every book, except the first one and the one with the werewolves (Which are both pretty demony, too, come to think). But the best part about this character and these books is that they focus on the dark part of dark fantasy/paranormal romance, which is often the most interesting part, and yet nowhere in these books does the main character revel in her own angst and Weltschmertz, or demean other people for not understanding the darkness in her soul; she has had to work hard to recognize her dark side as just -- dark. Not evil, necessarily. And as I have watched the character come to terms with this, it has felt like watching an actual person learn to accept themselves for who they are. It has made me sympathetic, and kept me fascinated, through all six books.
In this one, Rachel just goes right ahead and becomes a demon. Well, not really, but she realizes that she has more in common with demons, in some ways, than with witches, and the full secret of her parentage and the magical inheritance, and the future consequences of her inheritance and what Trent's father did to her, finally come out. It's a great reveal, made even better by how badly Trent deals with it and with Rachel. I've had trouble with Trent in the past, because I've always felt that Rachel's hatred of him was unreasoning in some way; sure, he is a murderer and a drug dealer -- but come on. She lives with, and is in love with, a living vampire who was scion to the most evil being in these books -- and I include the demons in that statement. Nobody compares to Piscary, and Ivy did horrible things when she was in his thrall; certainly worse than what Trent has done building his criminal empire. And Trent's crimes are offset by the amount of good he does -- Ivy's crimes are only offset by her protection of Rachel. So I can see the personal attachment to the murderer who keeps you alive and loves you, no problem there -- but why so much bile for the murderer who kept you alive in the past? Anyway, in this book, Trent not only acts like a complete doofus, but he pulls an incredibly crappy move, selling Rachel out, only because he's too stupid to recognize the consequences of what he says. And this guy has the gall to shy away from both Rachel and Ceri because of the demon smut on their souls. Bah. Jenks is still the best character, and I love Bis, the new gargoyle, who I hope will play a much bigger role in the next one. This one was great as always -- and a really nice resolution to the demon issue, though there is still more to tell, of course. And please, please, let the whole Ivy-bloodsucking-sex thing be done with. Pretty please. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-11 14:02:17 EST)

THE OUTLAW DEMON WAILS
KIM HARRISON Rating: 5 Enchantments Rachel Morgan is a smut covered, demon-calling, Vamp-loving, honorary Alpha-Were, friend of a Pixie, Running Witch. Or is she? When all that this witchy Witch holds near and dear is questioned: who she is, where she came from, is she possessed or obsessed with Demon calling - not to mention the misty memories of who killed her Vampire-boyfriend, Kisten, who can blame ones faulty facilities when you've a Demon hell bent for your blood? Because just like Brimstone, the answers fade in the rush of adrenalin-induced fear. With the return of Rachel, Jenks, Ivy and the rest of this All-Star cast of Fey-alistic ne'er-do-wells, Kim Harrison brings the Hollows back to life once more. This time with riveting action, intense drama and a few unexpected twist and turns. Each page leads to "just five more minutes" then "ok, just one more chapter." And before you know it, you've stayed up half the night just to get to the next scene. I was completely captivated once again. Delighted to see the addition of a few unknowns and am stoked and waiting impatiently to see where the next storyline takes us. Please, please, Ms. Harrison, don't make us wait so long. I finally finished The Outlaw Demon Wails this evening, and I must say Kim Harrison has done it again. She continues the Hollows series with unexpected plot twists and new interesting characters. This sixth installment focuses on family, both by blood and her family of friends.
We find out about Rachel's true heritage and learn more about her parents. We see more of Rachel and Ivy working through their blood balance. This is shown in a scene where I had to put the book down, and walk away from the intensity of it for a moment. There is also a possible new love interest in Rachel's future when Marshall (the witch from Mackinaw Island) appears on her church's front steps. The Elves (Ceri, Quen, and Trent) are also heavily focused on as they try to save their species. All of The Hollows characters slip in and out of the story. Even though they are not on the front burner, their presence is shown and their support for our favorite trio is evident. Like when David stops by to lend Rachel his duster, or when Keasley comes to Rachel's aid, yet again. We even learn more about the mysterious rockstar Takata! Diving into the Ever-After was a suspenseful scene, and a scary view into the world where the Demons lurk. Kim describes this run down wasteland with such detail, that I can just taste the burnt amber in the back of my throat, and feel the murky air all over. I was nervous to visit the Ever-After, and now I'm excited to learn that we will be going back in the future. Of course it will be on our own terms next time! Jenks as always lends his hysterical one liners, and witty banter with our girls and enemies. He manages to save the day once or twice, and he also has a new tenant in the church, a Gargoyle named Bis. There is still talk of Matalina's illness, and you can feel the pain every time it is mentioned. One can only hope that she will survive through the series. I hate to give anything away, but I feel it has been out long enough that I can post this very minor spoiler. It was really refreshing when I got to the end of the book and realized that there was no sex at all. The story didn't need it to push along the plot, and it definitely wasn't time for Rachel to take that step with anyone so soon after her loss from For a Few Demons More. The story has fantastic dialogue that keeps you glued to the pages. (I understand it's not a big spoiler, but some people might be miffed about the lack of sex in the book. Yeah, I'm talking about you Rachel and Ivy worshippers!) Overall this is the best book in the series so far. I don't know how Kim will top it (I've said that before), but I have faith that she will. The Hollows just sucks you in, and once you're there you never want to leave. If you haven't already, get out there and buy the book! If you haven't started this series I suggest you hop to it! This is by far the worse book of Ms. Harrisons to date. She once more features the same shallow characters who seem to all be bipolar misfits. A prime example is Rachel, who decides in this book that she cannot allow Ivy to bite her because she would lose her free will. Then she go'es on to sell herself (part time) to a demon? Come on its insane. Ivy of course continues to be the tormented sex kitten who can't control herself in most situations. Odd for a women who makes a living bringing in bad guys alive. Jenks is the only character with any depth, but he alone cannot carry this book. One last item, whats up with the author photo on the book jacket? Did Ms. Harrison not review it before publication, or was it her intent to come off a fashion reject? I know the wanna be goth crowd will eat this up, but Id advise you to buy anything by K. Armstrong, or P. Briggs, either have fully developed characters and well thought out plots.

What an incredible book! Starting from book one of the Hollow series I have not once been let down. The characters are so alive and fun, the action so real and breath taking! The story line that is developing in this story has left me hungry for the next installment. Do not miss this book (or any other of the series).

Ordinarily, I don't read vampire novels, or gothics, or any of that stuff -- but I make a major exception for this series, of which this is the sixth outrageously-titled volume. Rachel Morgan, a very talented earth witch, is a sort-of private eye in an alternate Cincinnati in which witches, vampire, were-folk, elves, and other non-humans make up half the population. Blame it on the bioengineered tomato plague of 1966. The story is set at Halloween, a very important week-long holiday in the Inderland, and Rachel is having a helluva time dealing with Al-the-demon, whom one of her enemies keeps summoning up and turning loose in the hopes he'll take Rachel down. Perhaps if Rachel herself took over Al's summoning name? But her aura is already becoming depressingly smut-laden, and she still has those two (or maybe three) unclaimed demon-marks. And Trent Kalamack, one of the last remaining elves and also wealthy supporter of illegal bioresearch, is getting underfoot. And Rachel is feeling guilty over the death of her vampire boyfriend, who died trying to protect her. And her closest friend and partner, Ivy Tamwood, a living vamp, has been trying hard to separate love and sex in her hungry pursuit of Rachel, who's trying to be accommodating without entirely giving in to her urges. If all this sounds complicated, that's because it is. And while much of the book seems to be marking time in developing the long-term plots, the last quarter of the story, in which Rachel and Trent find it necessary to journey into the ever-after, is a humdinger. And at the very end of things, it appears Rachel and Al are going to be embarking on an interesting new relationship. On the other hand -- and I've commented on this in every one of my five previous reviews of Harrison's work -- she suffers from present-participle-itis and her word choices are frequently awkward, even wince-producing. Still, I will be waiting avidly for the next installment.

I just finished this book. And it always surprises how much this series has grabbed onto me. I started reading this series when the second book came out (I still haven't gotten a chance to read the first book.) I thought that I would start growing tired of this series and jsut give up on reading (That happens to me with a lot of series.) But Kim's books are so well-written that I can't stop reading them. She has created such great characters that I care about a lot. And her attention to detail is really good. There are some plot twists throughout the series that I never would've seen coming. Which definitely surprised me because I can usually figure out the twists in a book way before they happen. I just realized that instead of reviewing just this novel, I kind of reviewed the entire series haha. But either way, if you've never read a book in this series or started reading the books but quit, you sohuld seriously pick this one up.

This installment was about as good as the last one, which can't hold water compared to the first 4 books. I held high hopes for this one but I don't think I will revisit these books any more unless they gets back to what I loved about the first 4 books. I think all the temptation with Ivy has gone on way too long and is very annoying and redundant. Get over it and move on.

I've been listening to the last 4 Rachel Morgan's. These have been read by Marguerite Gavin. I've been extraordinarily pleased with her readings.
Gigi Bermingham does the reading of "Outlaw Demon Wails". Its disconcerting. Pronunciations are different. (Its "Piss-Carry", not "Piss-cery".) Voices are different. (Jenks does not sound like that!) Intonations in the delivery are different. I'm not happy. Draw a circle and summon back Ms. Gavin. Please! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-05 15:47:37 EST)

Loved the Book! As always Kim Harrison makes an interesting and attention grabbing novel. Unfortunately the reader of this book for the Audio version butchers the words so bad it turns me off. I cringe every time she makes yet another mispronunciation. It really detracts from the great story line and very interesting characters. It's been a big downer. Hopefully next time they will pick another reader- one who can actually read. What a concept that would be!

This is the sixth book in Kim Harrison's Hallows series. It was a great book that kept me turning the pages and it was very hard to put down. I am so relived that Harrison continues to write awesome books.
Rachel is prepping for the huge Halloween holiday with her mother when she is assaulted by an unexpected guest; Al is somehow out of demon jail and he is bent on killing Rachel once and for all. Rachel has to figure out what is going on and save her friends and her family. It was wonderful to read more about Rachel's mother and about Al. Trent also goes through a lot of character development in this story. I was happy that Harrison put Rachel on a "relationship hiatus" in this book. After Kisten's death, it was nice to see Rachel do what a real person would do...which is take some time get herself back together. I would have been sorely disappointed if she followed the path of another female character we all know and has Rachel sleep with everything that moved. I was a little surprised that the main plot wasn't tracking down Kisten's murderer but rather dealing with Al. It was great to find out who Rachel's real father was; and it was good to find out about Rachel's true genetic makeup and abilities. Like usual the book was fast-paced, action-packed, and hard to put down. Jenks was his usual self and it was nice to see Rachel and Ivy make some progress in their friendship. I do hope that the blood-balance thing between Rachel and Ivy isn't revived in the next book; enough is enough on that topic. Overall, this was an awesome book. This book ended well leaving me feeling like the next book will be entering a fresh new chapter of Rachel's life. Can't wait for the next book! BTW, I was reading an interview with Kim Harrison where she says that her contract has been extended part 6 books to 9 books. So, it looks like we have at least three more books in the series to go! karissabooks.blogspot.com (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-03 01:08:25 EST)

Absolutely fabulous! I finished it in two days and had a terrible time putting it down. To see how much Rachel has grown and matured from the first book to this one was wonderful. Harrison has found her niche in creating and developing characters without having them grow stagnant. Even in this sixth installment the plot thickens when Rachel discovers some horrible facts about her family. Nothing seemed contrived or forced. It was as though Harrison had all this planned from book one. Each new story line fitted perfectly into where the story had been heading all along. I am so anxious to read the next one.

I love it when a series gets to the point where you just need to know what is going to happen next. Rachel hits a barrier at the end of this book and goes through it. Can't wait for the next one!
In the meantime a good writer has become even better. Characters more interesting. And the plot turns in ways you don't expect. If you liked the earlier books, you will love this one. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-26 01:08:44 EST)

Fans of Kim Harrison's demon-hunting, vampire-teasing, werewolf-befriending witch Rachel Morgan will be ecstatic over the sixth installment in the series, The Outlaw Demon Wails.
Morgan is back in Cincinnati having become the first alpha of David's werewolf pack (despite being a witch), and she is eager to track down the killer of her vampire boyfriend, Kisten. In a fast-paced narrative full of action and twists, Morgan has to outwit Al (the demon she has escaped from several times) while saving her nemesis Trent Kalamack from the ever-after and balancing the delicate relationship she has with her bi-sexual vamp roommate, Ivy. Harrison does a wonderful job growing her characters while staying true to them. She brings back former characters to provide depth to the plot. Harrison teases her fans by revealing shocking truths from each character's past which will eventually lead to cliff-hangers that will need to be addressed in subsequent titles. Harrison adroitly manipulates the reader back to Kisten's death, making it a psychologically intricate part of this book's plot while setting it up to be the main emphasis of the seventh installment. Transitions between plots and subplots are so smooth readers are only able to detect it has occurred after it has happened! This novel is hard to put down, and will make Morgan fans eager for the next installment. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-25 01:03:53 EST)

I thought that pacing of the plot development was well done. It was just fast enough to keep from being boring. It was well developed and thought out. It seems that Ms. Harrison put a lot of thought into the writing of this book. The answers that came out of this book had been developed over the first 5 books. Some I knew from book 1, but still the discoveries were done well. I cannot wait for the next book to see what develops next. I want more of the gargoyle and what he will do for or to Rachel.
My main compliment on this book is that there are next to NO TYPOS! If you read the first books you know what I mean. The Outlaw Demon Wails (Rachel Morgan, Book 6) (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-20 01:08:44 EST)

This series is a wonderful surprise. I read this in one gulp of fresh air - it's humorous, very real and the characters are so detailed that you actually feel that you know them in your real life!
So many reviews here compare it to Anita Blake, but I read the first few books in that series - and NOTHING compares to Rachel Morgan. First off, Rachel Morgan is a much more complex individual, and Harrison creates a world of characters that you actually care for. In Anita Blake, I didn't feel any sympany for her or anything bad that happened to her . Moreover, the story is so stupidly plain and simple that leaves no room for imagination. I also tried to read the Dresden files (read 2 books) - AWEFUL!!!!!! The closest I could find to the style of writing and the intricate little things that happen all around in the book is the Sookie Stackhouse series which I also am thorouly enjoying right now. Can't wait for the next book in the Rachel Morgan series!!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-20 01:08:44 EST)

I loved this book! I agree with some of the other reviewers that it got off to a slow start with Rachel mourning the loss of Kisten. Personally I did not really like him anyway. The book really takes off about 1/3 of the way into it and from then on it's non stop action and excitement.
The Pros: I love the interplay between Rachel and Trent. I was totally surprised to find out the father of Ceri's baby! Learning more about Rachel's background was great. This twist took me completely by surprise. The cons: I am over Kisten and I hope Rachel gets over him too. Marshall is way too dull for Rachel. The thing between Rachel and Ivy needs to end, I am tired of the repetition of bascially a different variant of the same scene in each of the books where Ivy hungers for Rachel, and Rachel wants to yield. This series is inventive, engaging, and fast moving with a story line full of twists and tiurns that will have you gasping for more. I think the strongest scenes involve interactions between Rachel and the demons and Rachel and Trent. I would love to see Rachel and Trent hook up and then wake up the next morning and start bickering all over again! I loved this book and can't wait for the next book in the series. Definetly worth the hardcover price. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-17 01:08:29 EST)

Kudos to Kim Harrison! She has done amazing things in this book. If you have been following this series (and what kind of dweeb starts with Book Six ??) Congratulations, sport! You just won the lottery (not really ...) BUT you are in for a treat when you start this reading this one. (Warning - once you start- be prepared to put your everyday life on hold until you finish reading the last page.) I finally finished about 6 AM. Yes - Even though I needed mondo coffee and toothpicks to keep my eyes open in afternoon clinic. It was worth it.
The old gang is all here, but a few new characters like Bis the gargoyle insinuate themselves effortlessly into the roiling, fast paced narrative with entertaining results. The Harrison signature oddball off-beat humor and interesting character insights are here in spades. We learn more about Trent, Ceri, Quen and yes-even Takada! She has developed her characters and propelled her plot with unexpected changes and some really harrowing moments. Short summary you will love it. So? What are you waiting for? This book has a lot going for it in about the last third of the book. We meet Rachel's mom and discover a secret she's been keeping. We discover secrets about Ceri. We get to watch a mission to the demon realm that results in some really great complications for later books.
But those beginning and middle sections, could we please get an editor to take out all the endless exposition? Now, I know that some exposition is needed for people who decide that they're going to start reading a series in the middle; however, despite having a great opportunity to give us exposition in the form of a new regular character, Harrison spends most of her time telling rather than showing us what's happened in the past five books, including all the werewolf stuff that happened in book four but is totally irrelevant to the plot of this book. There was no reason to explain some of this stuff. In some cases she gives us the same exposition twice, as if I've forgotten it in the last 75 pages. Did she switch editors? There are some technical mistakes that I don't remember from earlier books, which makes me suspicious that this is the case. I'm disappointed, not because Harrison's creative spark is gone, but because her style is now sufficating under the weight of its own backstory if she keeps up this level of exposition. I can't believe that I waited to get this book from my local library rather than buying it, like I have all of the others. I had been disappointed in the last couple of books. I came away intending to reread the series from start to finish, and I'll definitely be buying this book!
So much happened, and has been covered in other reviews, but to me, the most titanic shift is the change in the relationship between Al and Rachel, and in her view of him. I can't say much without giving too much away, but the last chapter provided a stark change in their relationship. Evil Al, who tormented Ceri so badly? Just - wow. Equally as astounding and satisfying was the final fleshing out of Rachel's mother, who turned out to be even more delightful and talented as her daughter. Frankly, I've been a little bored with the whole Ivy/Rachel thing, and I hope sincerely that this whole blood balance thing will permanently go away. I have hopes that eventually Ivy will become a fully fleshed out character. She's never really come alive for me. Incidentally, I found the ex-President vampire to be a pretty sinister figure. I can hardly wait for the next book! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-15 01:22:21 EST)

Each book in the series gets bettet and better but this one blew my mind I Could Not Stop Reading It. Kim harrison knows just how to hook you right from the beggining and leave you drooling for more at the end! The only thing that could be better is maybe the dialogue I dont think it stood out enough and it was a little to repetative.. I cannot wait for the next installment in the series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rachel's story gets better and better with each book.
I have to admit I was convinced I would hate this book because of the loss of Kisten's character. But I actually loved it. In this book things happen and characters go places. I loved Trent in the book than I have in any other. He is interesting and I like to read about him. Marshal is good to have around too (though no one will ever be as cool as Kisten.) I thought Ivy was a bit boring this book, same old sulking, hungry, self loathing vampire she always is and I cannot wait until Harrison cracks that character wide open. Ivy has a lot to offer, it just wasn't up for grabs as much in this book. I sort of felt like Rachel's mom and whole family history thing was kind of out of left field. I wish there would have been more about it in the previous books so that the plot twist didn't feel as force fed as it was. (Though it's been a while since I read the older books.) But I loved it anyways. I think the demon developments in this book are exciting and as always, interesting. The rules of the demon world, the rules of ley lines, the rules of the family tree of the super natural are really well thought/written out. Al is a very unique character- while he's repulsive morally (being a demon and all) I enjoy reading about his goings on in the ever after. It's a well crafted world that is convincing and Al I think is a very developed character. One other thing I want to mention about this book is the reality of death Harrison touched on. For once it wasn't a "If I die oh well, but I'm sure I'll make it" kind of mission Rachel went on. It was a "Oh shucks I could really die doing this." Like, her little flaw of craving danger is sort of crumbling and the adventures feel realer now that Rachel isn't portrayed as reckless. Also the fact that she can't leave her house after dark is a real obstacle that "dealing in demons" presents. I like that she has issues and problems and pains in her neck just like everyone else. The way Harrison dealt with Rachel's grief for Kisten was actually pretty minimal for such a situation but definitely much more thoughtful than I expected. It wasn't glossed over and it wasn't repetitively angst-y. I have to get a little Jenks fangirly here and just say he is THE best partner ever invented. Anyways, this book was a thrill. Harrison is talented and it's a pleasure reading about Rachel's adventures. xD (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-02 02:32:15 EST)

This book is a perfect extension of the series. A first time reader would need the previous books but it flows well. A true must for fans.

First let me start off by saying the last book in this series left me cold. I didn't enjoy it so I wasn't looking forward to this one. But I picked it up because I heard rumors of having some questions answered.
I struggled to get through the first 150-200 pages. It just felt like rehash to me (although I do have to say I'm impressed that Rachel is TRYING to change her stupid ways). Ivy still can't control her bloodlust, she isn't over her attraction to Rachel, and is terrified Rachel will leave her. Ivy has NOT changed since book 1 and I'm tired of her and her whining. I ended up skimming the parts where Rachel was mourning Kisten. When he died, I was having a hard time caring cuz I was so disgusted with the characters and now I still have a hard time caring that he's gone. And Rachel spening about a 1/3 of the book saying she was still grieving and not ready to move on, yet clearly wanting to...was just old. It was fine the first 2 times she mentioned it but by the 15th...I just wanted to slap her. And the plot hasn't changed much either since the first book. Demons are after Rachel, she has to use one demon to get herself out of trouble with the first demon which means she owes demon #2 another favor. So she gets in hock with Demon #3 to get out of her bargain with Demon #2 and it just keeps circling. She's still doing the trying-to-nail-Trent dance. That's old and boring too. How many times does Rachel have to say how much she hates Trent? Got it the first zillion times over the last 5 books. And it goes on like that. We do get answers into Rachel's childhood illness and what that may mean for her, but that was the only interesting part of the book. Everything else was just retread. She even has a new love interest sniffing around. He sounds just like Nick and Kisten did in the beginning. Ms. Harrison has REALLY got to shake things up. But I think its too late for me. I don't think I'll be rushing out to buy Rachel Morgan #7. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-27 05:06:08 EST)

Love the book, Love the series. Answers questions that had been stiring in the under current but the books main mystery is still unanswered which I personally think is great. You dont always get all the answers when you expect them and thats what makes this series fun. Kims a masterful story teller and has a way of making fantasical characters seem like people you know. If Kim keeps writing them Ill keep reading them.

Kim Harrison keeps it going. I avidly await her next book that continues on the theatrics of Rachel Morgan. I am always surprised that each book gets better and better with out filling page after page with sexual encounters. I was a Laurell K. Hamilton fan, but I'm tired of flipping through over half of the book to get passed all the sex, and find some of the dialogue. Don't get me wrong I love sex, but Laurell has clearly gone over the edge with it. Thanks for keeping it real Kim.

This series was recommended by a friend of mine and I am so glad I took his advise. I have read the complete series in about two weeks time and I could not put them down. I am sad that I finished them. I can't wait for Hotter Than Hell to come out in June. My favorite characters are Jenks and Ivy. There are so unexpected in there reactions that it just keeps me reading to see what comes next. Jenks makes me laugh out loud and Ivy keeps the suspense going wondering how shes going to react with Rachel always getting into something. I recommend this series to anyone who just loves reading something that will make you laugh, keep you on the seat of your pants and does have some romance included.

Kim Harrison writes extremely enjoyable fantasy/horror and this latest installment of the Hollows series just as much fun as the previous five, while adding more twists to the emerging story of Rachel's true nature. This story has great pace, good character focus and amusing dialogue and I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series.

I loved the story line of the book. True Rachel Morgan drama. I was however very disappointed that they changed the reader of the audiobook. GiGi Bermingham is normally a good reader, but her persona of the characters is totally out of the context established by Marguerite Gavin, the original reader. GiGi also mispronounces alot of the main characters names which somewhat ruins the story. Her loud high pitched voice caused me to constantly adjust the volume on my cd player. If they don't go back to the original reader I will not continue this series. I would recommend reading the book vs the audio if you have time to read.

The latest peek at the life of Rachel Morgan and her friends in the Hollows is fantastic! Rachel has come a long, LOOOOOONG way from the little bit of fluff and earth witch spell slinger she was taken for the very first time we visited the Hollows.... A journey that's twisted way off the path she envisioned, but it's not all bad, either.... I'm not about to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't gotten to read it, but believe ME, it is the wildest ride yet, worth every bit of the wait!

Great book! Harrison closes the door on some of the issues hanging over Rachel's head, while answering some questions that throw the door open for so many interesting possibilities for future books.
Thankfully, one of the issues that seemed to have come to some resolution was the whole blood balance thing with Ivy. I was really getting tired of that whole thread, mainly because it had morphed Rachel's relationship with Ivy into the least interesting one in the books and turned Ivy into a flat character with only two notes to her song -- her violent blood lust and her extreme jealously of any of Rachel's new friends or relationships. It had gotten to the point where I had a hard time remembering what Rachel and Ivy's friendship was like before all the vampiness. Which is a shame since it's Rachel's relationships with Jenks, Ceri, Quen, David and even Trent and Al that have made the books so good. But this time the background story along with revelations and the trickery that Rachel uses to turn a death sentence into an life-altering opportunity are really what made this book so great. If you are at all a fan of this series, you absolutely have to read it. For me it was worth every penny of the hardback price, and I rarely buy a hardback new. If you are new to the series, this is not the book to start with. It just won't have the impact without knowing all the events that have brought Rachel to this place, go back and start at the beginning with Dead Witch Walking (Rachel Morgan, Book 1) and enjoy the journey! This book was mouth watering and spectacular. My only complaint is that I read it too fast. A lot of things are wonderfully cleared up in this novel. We finally learn what Trent's father did to Rachel's DNA. Some secrets about Rachel's father come out of the closet. We learn why Takata always seems to show up out of no where. Ceri's relationship is explored and more drama is revealed. We learn why Trent seems to loathe Rachel in such an unusual way. There's even some secrets given up about Keasley! And the ending is so spectacular that I cannot imagine waiting another year for the next book!
This author needs to teach Laurell K. Hamilton some things! LKH is like the Britney Spears of the paranormal fantasy world, and Kim Harrison is easily the Christina Aguilera! (Sorry if the similes offend you!) I'm very glad Rachel's mom has a more prominent role in this book. She's a fire cracker! Rachel is even more powerful and doesn't show any signs of stopping. Ohhh and she also might have a new relationship in the works. But the author is very careful to respect Kristen's memory. This book was just superb. Get it! Kim Harrison has done it again. Like with the other 5 books she brings Rachel, Ivy, and the others to life with a great mix of feelings and action. You can feel the tension between Rachel and Ivy. Can't waite for the next book to come out.

The sixth book in the Hollows series is the best yet! Kim Harrison knows exactly how much to reveal to keep readers coming back for more, and she makes the waiting worth it by filling her pages with action, wit, and twisted, but well thought out, history and plot. I'm so thrilled with her last book, I'm driving 3 hours to go to a book signing. If you like Laurell K. Hamilton, this will be right up your alley.
