I read this book after reading the author's Macrobiotic Diet book. When I read these books I was in intense pain from a gout attack that had dragged on for weeks and wouldn't respond to the usual medical treatment. These gout attacks had become more and more frequent, coming about every six months or less at that point in time. I also had a kidney stone attack at the same time, which caused even more pain. My feet were always in pain even when there was no gout attack.
After reading these books, I followed the Macrobiotic Diet. I stopped eating meat and dairy and eggs, and stopped using any kind of sweetener. I ate whole grains and legumes as my primary source of food, with fresh vegetables and fruits to supplement them. I also ate some fish. I took the supplements that are recommended in this book. Within two months I had lost 30 pounds. The gout and kidney stone problems went away. More than a year and a half has gone by since this occurred. During this time my feet stopped hurting. I have had no gout attacks. My cholesterol is normal, and I had my first normal uric acid test ever (when uric acid levels rise, and mine was always high, gout is almost sure to come). I have urged everyone I know to read this book and Macrobiotic Diet. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-11-30 01:20:51 EST)

Before any man diagnosed with Prostate Cancer signs up for a radical localized procedure such as having their prostate removed, radiated, frozen or microwaved, he owes it to himself to read this short book. Its hopeful message and some further research have led me to adopt the program it proposes in leiu of more conventional radical localized prostate treatments. I feel good!

This book is rich in useful facts, errors, and misguided opinions. If you have the technical expertise to separate out the "chaff from the grain", then you probably don't need this book. Useful facts include: prostate cancer is preventable and better treatable without castration or prostatectomy, diet plays a major role in the health of the prostate gland, testosterone is not the enemy in prostate cancer but rather the imbalance between estrogens and testosterone in the aging male.
Errors in the book include: lycopenes from tomatoes are useless for prostate health (p.17). The Mediterranean lifestyle, which incorporates abundant tomatoes, has been shown to help prevent prostate problems. Since Mr. Mason has no formal training in a health related field, he is overly confident in his opinions, like calling the Harvard study in a major peer reviewed journal showing the value of tomatoes in reducing the incidence of prostate cancer "asinine" and "paid advertisements". Another error is that flax oil is a reasonable substitute for fish oil in prostate health. In fact, flax oil is inefficiently converted to fish oil (EPA) in the human body. He says that you must cut fat in the diet to 10% of calories. Meanwhile, both Eskimos and Mediterranean people consume a diet of 60% fat and 30% fat respectively without any significant prostate disease. Mr. Mason tells us to stay away from nightshade vegetables, like potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers. Which is very disconcerting for the Inca civilization, the largest and most advanced civilization in the pre-Columbian Americas for 300 years, where potatoes are the staple of the diet. The descendents of the Incas today still live actively into their 80s off of nothing but potatoes. Mr. Mason cautions us to never take more than 250 milligrams per day of vitamin C (p.13). Which would make a fruit smoothie toxic and the thousands of doctors who inject up to 100,000 mg of vitamin C to help sick patients all wrong. While conventional therapy for prostate cancer may be hazardous to your health, this book is wrong at least half of the time. For the sheer entertainment value of how opinionated an uninformed lay person can be, this book is worth the read. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-23 00:15:11 EST)

I ordered this book as an alternative source of information after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in late October 2006: However, it now has become my primary guide. It is well written using only natural approaches toward prostate health in clear, concise language. It is based on factual findings from hundreds of compilations & studies from the world's scientific journals over the past 35 years. And, it is updated and republished each year. Many, many references are made to such sources & studies from Harvard Medical School, Veterans Administration Minneapolis, St. Luke's Hospital NYC, Ruhr University of Germany, British Journal of Pharmacology, British Journal of Urology, National Institute of Health in Maryland, State University of NY, University Of Milan (Italy), University Of Tel Aviv (Israel), Hubei Medical University (China), and numerous others.
Before buying this book I had asked for a second opinion concerning my diagnosis and treatment options from a radiation oncologist (My urologist is a surgeon whose primary method is surgical removal of the gland). I was surprised by the radiation oncologist's list of treatment options; external radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), internal radiation therapy (brachytherapy), AND DIET/SUPPLEMENT therapy! This was a refreshing surprise to me, and the oncologist spent well over an hour going over the diet regimen (which he PERSONALLY follows). It was this revelation that I would eventually read about in Roger Mason's book "The Natural Prostate Cure". Having an oncologist relate all this to me in ADVANCE of ever reading the book only served to reinforce the information contained in its very informative 73 short pages which I read in one afternoon. After reading a booklet "Understanding Radiation Therapy" (a 40 page booklet from The American Cancer Society), I was sick in my stomach from the seemingly 'grotesque' procedures, and the strong possibility of horrible side effects! The bottom line (from reading it): No predictions or guarantees can be made as to outcomes regarding surgical or radiation procedures! It is just too full of "maybe's, if's, possibly's & unknown's". Even with my approach of seeking a natural cure, the responsibility is mine; the choice is mine & the decision is mine! And I must say that decision MUST be an individual one, and MUST be made on an individual basis by the individual, and FOR the individual. All doctors, surgeons, oncologists & therapists should honor that decision, and stay off the patient's back! All of the foregoing is strictly MY opinion based on what I've read, seen & heard. But, the radiation oncologist visit, and Roger Mason's book "The Natural Prostate Cure" weighed positively on my decision to go the natural route. I gave it a five star rating NOT because it was lengthy and full of multiple syllable words, but because it was short, factual, science-based and made a lot of common sense! Three months ago I took a PSA test and it came back 8.79 ng/mL. I had no other symptoms and started looking for an alternative to what the doctors wanted me to do. I found this book and followed the instructions which include a strict diet, exercise and 20+ vitamins. I took another PSA test two weeks ago and just received the results today: 4.5 ng/mL. Still elevated but quite a remarkable improvement in just two months. It will be interesting to see what it will be six months or a year from now.
As an added bonus I haven't felt this healthy or had so much energy for quite a long time. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-15 00:31:19 EST)

An easy-to-understand on using diet and supplements for a health prostate. Much superior to Prostate Health in 90 Days as it does not contain eastern mystism and other globbly-gook.

This is an excellent book written by Roger Mason on the male organ Prostate. This is a firm, partly muscular chestnut sized gland in males at the neck of the urethra; produces a viscid secretion that is the fluid part of semen. There have been instances of patients recovering very fast after reading this book. It is a highly informative book for one and all interested in finding more about Prostate. A person suffering from Prostate will definitely benefit more. If you want to prevent this happening to you as you age then you have to read this book.
I read the book and I thought, this doesn't sound too bad, but I found myself miserable. I just was frustrated after a week....it was very regimented. [...] Another book I bought was the South Beach Diet book. I read that book and found the plan to be made up of things I would eat and the items were normal grocery store items so no hunting at the health food stores or buying online (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-14 00:13:25 EST)

Roger Mason's book changed my life. I was 56, diagnosed with severe BPH, was in fact completely blocked after waking up in agony, and was wearing a catheter. I went onto the urologist's emergency surgery list and was scheduled for surgery in about 3-4 weeks. During that wait, I discovered this book, followed its recommendations, removed the catheter after 2 weeks, cancelled the surgery when I was called by the booking nurse to be scheduled to come in and have been steadily improving my urinary functions ever since. I have had no surgery.
I would without hesitation recommend Roger Mason's book to any male who has prostate disease or who is interested in preventing it as aging happens. The beauty of this book is that it is based on overwhelming research findings synthesized from around the world into clear results about what works and what does not. It changed my life for the better and saved me the trauma of surgery. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-14 00:13:25 EST)

There is one reason all men should read this book. Roger Mason spent an entire year researching every study (over 100,000) in Chemical Abstracts. This tome contains every medical article from all the scientific journals in the world. You can be quite sure that no urologist in the world has done this research. In fact, no one else has. Roger Mason's thoroughness and dedication impressed me.
My personal experience includes trying the beta sitosterol which he recommends along with several other supplements over the last 20 years to try to control my BPH (swollen prostate) symptoms. In the last 18 months, the most success I have ever had has come from a product called PC Essentials. It is available from SwansonVitamins.com. I am 72 and have no BPH symptoms. Certainly, I have cut down on the number of calories and the amount of red meat as well. But nothing has ever worked as well as this product (I get no income from this or any other recommendation). If you are of the male persuasion, read this book. Nowhere else will you get, in plain English, so much information about prostate health. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-07 17:00:05 EST)

As a registered nurse I have seen the medical profession at work. Most doctors still reject any method of healing if it does not come from our western medical schools. This book has excellent research throught western medicine well explained and easy to understand. The author does not claim to give medical advice. He gives a great overview to tons of research worldwide. To any one who is willing to change life style and eating habits for health reasons: follow the book! I am hoping my 84 year old father will give it a try!

I purchased this book for my husband because his doctor indicated that we should become more aware of his prostate health. I have to admit that I read the book first because this topic was very touchy and one that he did not want to discuss.
Roger Mason has taken the time to explain things on a person to person basis while providing valuable information to our family about maintaining proper levels of hormones and what supplements my husband can take to prevent problems with his prostate. I feel better knowing that even if our situation had been more advanced that the information provided by the book would have helped us as well.My husband and I plan on giving this book to our sons so they can become more informed and take control of their prostate health. I was so impressed with this book I purchased his book for women. Thanks Roger Mason for your great work! (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-07 17:00:05 EST)

The author comes across as a self-appointed medical vigilante out to prove the entire allopathic medical community is wrong. While natural approaches to prostate health are worth promoting, his alarmist approach is not helpful. In particular, his repeated implications (or outright assertions) that conventional medical approaches (for prostate cancer) are synonymous with castration is ridiculous. His research into the role of testosterone is interesting but not convincing.
I bought this book hoping for useful approaches to complement carefully researched "conventional" treatment for prostate cancer, but the author's opinion is that you can't use both. Hogwash. I'm returning this book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-07 17:00:05 EST)

Roger Mason's book "A Natural Prostate Cure" is a thoroughly researched, well documented, hugely informative and completely logical work that every man should have to help them deal with and survive Prostate problems. I have been following Roger Mason's advice and have found considerable relief from my own personal Prostate problems so I know first hand the benefits. But why do I call this book "A Courageous Stance" Well because he has the courage to give it to you straight! He has the courage to skewer the Medical Establishment and the "Nutritional Charlatans and Dunderheads" and fly right in the face of their foolishness, pompous nonsense, and howls of protest! Buy it and Read it! Who knows? You might learn something! You might save yourself some anxiety about your own Prostate conditions! You just might save your own life!
