All my life I have struggled with my weight. I recently discovered what I had was Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, and have insulin resistance. This book is very clear on what combinations of food work together, and which to avoid. I have lost 5 lbs so far without very much effort at all. In fact, I am eating more now, and enjoying it more.

Went by the guide-lines in the book-found out stuff about some of my health issues and it is working for me-so far I have lost 10 lbs!

This book was easy to read and gave a lot of helpful information as well as examples and menu ideas. If you are insulin-resistant, it really helps you understand what is going on inside your body, with good tips to improve your health.

The Insulin Resistance Diet is very easy to read, understand, and follow. After getting the book I began reading first and then my "official" start date was June 1st, 2008. According to my doctor's scale, I lost 4 lbs in the exactly two weeks between my last visits. That's about 2 lbs. per weeks, which is a good rate according to my doctor. I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, insulin resistance, as well as a family history of diabetes. I wanted to break the cycle of high and low blood sugar level spikes before my pancreas is used up!

Once you understand how your body reacts when you consume different types of food, and learn to recognize the different types, it is easier to eat out at restaurants, parties, and at home. The biggest changes for me is just finally feeling better, as well as recognizing true hunger signs for the first time that I can remember. I eat every 2-3 hours, always combine protein with any carbs... I will feel hungry 2-3 hours after eating, but not the extremes that I would feel before. I can even prepare meals and have started my whole family on the same healthy foods that I eat.. no more preparing two separate meals.. besides, I do not want my sons to get diabetes either.

Try this... for the $15-16.. how much better you will feel is worth the price.

While it will probably get swept under the rug as just another fad, "The Insulin-Resistance Diet--Revised and Updated" is actually really well written. Within the first 30 pages, they've explained the what and why, and are already offering suggestions on how to improve your diet. As I checked this out from the library, I wasn't able to try any of the recipes, but the image of the seesaw to balance carbs with protein stuck with me - I see it in my mind's eye every time I sit down to eat. The premise is simple and very easy to incorporate into any eating habits - no matter how on-the-go.

I can't say I've lost 10 pounds in a month or anything like that. I am not completely sure I've lost more than a few pounds over the past few months that I have been using the advice in this book. What I can say, however, is that since starting to eat according to these guidelines, I have been feeling much better.

I have more energy and I am happier overall since I've learned to balance carbs with protein. It's amazing how much what you eat can affect your mood, not just over a long period of time, as your health changes, but also just in the span of one day. Whenever I eat too much sugar, for example, and don't balance it, I can feel the side effects of that pretty soon.

I recommend this book to anyone who suspects that they are insulin resistant. It will give you explanations that make sense, rules that are reasonable and an overall guide to adapting your diet to your body's needs.

I bought this book about 6 months ago and have followed its basic principles. While I have not lost a ton of weight, that is probably due to my over active social life. However, most of the time I have followed it. I feel much better, healthier and more balanced with lots of energy and not feeling hungry.

This book is simple, makes lots of sense and easy to follow. It is definitely not a fad diet and is one that you can stick to and make into a lifestyle. The authors are knowledgeable and present their points in a friendly way.

I recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their general well being and lose fat as well as learning more about basic food groups and how to have a balanced diet.

I have lost 50 pounds in the past 10 months using this plan. It really works! My friends and family are all amazed at the transformation. The best part is nothing is really forbidden - I'm never hungry. I don't get those awful cravings and it's not really a diet as much as an eating plan I can follow the rest of my life - even go out to dinner with friends! Can't recommend it highly enough.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism shortly after my daughter was born 5 1/2 years ago. Since then I have gained 90 pounds and have struggled with trying to lose weight. It wasn't until my new endocrinologist ran some test and told me that I was insulin resistant. This was 7 months ago. I did some research back in August of 2007 and came across this book and tried it. It definitely works as I finally lost 32 pounds. There was a point where I plateaued for a two weeks and then suddenly dropped 8 pounds. This book is a lifesaver and recommend it to anyone who struggles with medical conditions and/or obesity.

Read the first chapter at least several times, the information about how insulin works will change your life if you "get it". Our population is becoming more and more obese as a result of insulin resistance. As our bodies must create more insulin to deal with sugars our insulin levels can spike up to 5 times as high as a healthy person when eating the same food This high level of insulin in our blood creates an addictive cycle that only continues to feed these high levels and contribute to heart disease and diabetes.

I can see why the original (unrevised) version of this book got over 100 fantastic reviews on amazon.

I have this new, revised version and it has updated information on the food lists, information on label reading, etc. If you loved the original IR Diet you MUST get this one.

Simply said, this book is wonderful and the eating plan works!

I was looking for a Zone-type diet that was easy to follow and would take off weight. The IR Diet, with it's simple link and balancing of protein to carbs is sheer genius. It's like following an easier, improved version of the Zone Diet, which I loved but was too complicated to follow.

Highly, highly recommended. And a great read too. Not dry and boring like some "diet" books. Chock full of great information.
