Being from the south (Georgia), I am always critical of writing set in one of our sensational southern "towns." We call them "towns" because unlike other areas, our setting is one not matched by other places. This novel having a string of secrets and mysteries is liken to all the southern towns. In this work of fiction, the author has you believing her prose just might be true. With accuracy given to the depiction of Charleston, the line between real and make-believe becomes blurred.

I really liked the idea of the story of a woman falling into owning a haunted historical house in the heart of charleston full of treasures. The problem was I started out liking the book but I didn't like Melanie and began really despising her. She was such a diva. Also the book kept on and on for three hundred plus pages. It could have been alot shorter there just wasn't that much to say. Mainly Melanie Telling Jack "dont' call Mellie" and how she didn't like her Mom and Dad. There also was alot unanswered and I agree with some of the other reviews that everything came too easy. This book could have really been good if there had been more about the ghost and the mystery and less about Melanie's bad attitude.

After reading the reviews for this book, I was sure it was going to be a good one. However, I was disappointed. The characters in the book lacked personality. I didn't like the main character, Melly. She seemed shallow and dull. I doubt I will read any further episodes from this series.

I am a newbie to Karen White's work and was immediately hooked! Her storytelling skill is like being on a rollercoaster... and then comes the twist! You can't put it down until you get to the final page and she leaves you wanting to know more about the wonderful characters she has created. I am patiently awaiting the release of her newest book!

This was my first Karen White novel and I loved it! I loved Nancy Drew as a kid and this is a grown-up version! It has characters that you will fall in love with and others you will not. There is enough suspense and mystery to keep you turning the pages. I am looking forward to the other books in this series!

The main character's personality is someone that is difficult to like.
It was pretty much a woman's book but fairly good read. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-12 02:10:19 EST)
