This is a visual appealing book, It has a nice leather bound, Gold edges, there is Arabic and English, and there is quite a few facts about holy people in Islam, the only think I didn't like with all Islamic Qurans that are translated the paper is thin. I love it, as a Muslim born, I was taught to recite, now its nice to know what I was reciting. highly recommend.

(Hide Review...)  A Very Helpful Translation

Over the past couple of years I have taken an active interest in all forms of Religion but have constantly found myself becoming more interested in Islam. I have read another translation of the Qu'ran which I found very helpful but came across this and thought it would be wise to read other translations of the Qu'ran to give me a wider knowledge of the message the Holy Qu'ran is trying to portray.

Apart from being a translation, this edition contains some very informative reading on giving a wider perspective on the values of Islam. It tells of meanings of words in the Arabic language that some may not be too sure about, it also gives a history of the religion of Islam how the message was originally given to the prophet Muhammad and how he told it to the masses and how historically people committed it to memory before putting it to paper. It tells the history of the Arabic language and how the language hasn't changed since its beginning and how the Qu'ranic message is the only religious message that has gone unchanged since its revelation and that is due to the language going unchanged.

This is a very special text that I would advise everybody to purchase as it will open your mind to a religion that, in todays society is being diminished and destroyed by the mass media.

(Hide Review...)  Peaceful (?) Religion

This is a beautiful book, bound in leather with gold edging -- really quite elegant. I am a Christian and I neither speak nor read Arabic so I cannot comment on the quality of the translation. However, in reading the English translation I am struck by the lack of pace and elegance I have found in the King James Bible, but to be fair I don't care for most of the modern translations of the Bible either.

I purchased this book as supplementary reading to the various other books I have read in order to better understand Islam and what is going on. Contrary to what I see and hear on TV about Islam as a peaceful religion and that Osama bin Laden and others do not represent Islam, I beg to disagree, this Holy Book is filled with exhortations to violence under many and varied circumstances. Chapter 47:4 seems to me at least, to justify the treatment of Nick Berg. This is only one verse that urges violence to the unbeliever. From what I read, Osama bin Laden and the rest represent a literal view of the Qur'an and Islam.

Do I have a better understanding of Islam after reading this book? I think I do. I think I understand that much of the violence being practiced by Muslims today is due to a strict interpretation of the verses in this book. It helps me to understand why the "moderate" Muslims are so silent and so lacking in condemnation of those who are murdering and killing in the name of Allah. I think the Islamic Community has a long way to go before they become a religion of Peace.

Do I recommend this book -- Yes I do. I think the translators have made a great effort to provide a precise translation of the Arabic. I think reading this book provides a great deal of insight not only into the violence but also into the lack of condemnation of the violence.
