Wouldn't you love to abolish the IRS ... Then the FairTax is for you. In the face of the outlandish American tax burden, talk-radio firebrand Neal Boortz and Congressman John Linder are leading the charge to phase out our current, unfair system and enact the FairTax Plan, replacing the federal income tax and withholding system with a simple 23 percent retail sales tax on new goods and services. This dramatic revision of the current system, which would eliminate the reviled IRS, has already caught fire in the American heartland, with more than six hundred thousand taxpayers signing on in support of the plan. As Boortz and Linder reveal in this first book on the FairTax, this radical but eminently sensible plan would end the annual national nightmare of filing income tax returns, while at the same time enlarging the federal tax base by collecting sales tax from every retail consumer in the country. The FairTax, they argue, would transform the fearsome bureaucracy of the IRS into a more transparent, accountable, and equitable tax collection system. Among other benefits, it will:
Endorsed by scores of leading economists and supported by a huge and growing grassroots movement, the FairTax Plan could revolutionize the way America pays for itself. In this straight-talking book, Neal Boortz and John Linder show you how it would work—and how you can help make it happen. |

This can be the first step in restoring the Republic. The general public believes that an income tax is both legal and is needed to fund the government. Regardless of the facts, the Fair Tax will be a way to rid this nation of the IRS and then give us time to get the truth out to the public. Even Ron Paul said that if he were elected President, he would sign the Fair Tax bill ... it would be a good first step toward restoring the Republic, the Constitution, and the rule of law.

If you are curious about what a consumption based tax could do for the USA's economy this is a great read.
If you are tired of having the IRS taking a bite out of your paycheck, read this book. This is an excellent book that will clear up some of the misconceptions you may have concerning the Fair Tax. The book is brief and to the point. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-03 01:18:57 EST)

If only everyone would read this book. Especially those in places of power. It is distressing to hear politicians argue against The Fair Tax Act, who have no earthly idea of how it works. I think we should each buy a copy or two and send it to our representatives, congressmen, etc. Neal Boortz tells it like it is. You go, Neal!

I highly recommend reading this book.
I read it, asked my wife to read it, gave that copy to my dad and bought another copy for my mother-in-law. In a nutshell, the book is a two-authored, semi-humorous discussion about the theory and practice of both taxation and, to a lesser extent, fairness. Depending on what you know and what you believe about taxes, this is a fairly quick read and it isn't deeply philosophical. I'd especially recommend this book to those who believe in class warfare and progressive taxation. My favorite chapter is about the FairTax's perceived flaws and logical rebuttals. There is a follow on book which I will review once I finish reading it: FairTax: The Truth: Answering the Critics Cheers! JP (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-16 01:15:57 EST)

Neal and Congressman Linder do a fantastic job of presenting, explaining and "selling" the FairTax (although, it just sells itself!).
Nothing is going to change if all you do is sit on your rear all day and complain about our tax system! Do something, even if it's just educating yourself about the FairTax, so that you can spread the word to others. Buy this book, read it, then give it to someone else to read. You owe yourself at least that much. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-14 01:17:13 EST)

I got to about the fifth chapter of this book, which was amazingly well written and kept me very interested even if I didn't completely agree with everything, when I accidentally left it in the airport where I was reading it. Which I found amazingly ironic, since in the prologue one of the writers made a joke about leaving it in an airport in order to spread it and make me go out and buy a new one. I think I was cursed.....

I have read this book, and the second book also.
I have long thought that a consumption based tax system would be much more fair for all Americans and here is a book explaining a proposal currently (and repeatedly) before Congress. For those who want to somehow get to the ultra rich in this country this is the answer, since their wealth is largely protected from income tax, taxing their consumption is the best way to get them to participate in funding our government. Likewise taxing consumption will bring those who evade our current income based tax system into the tax base. Here is the problem. Getting this program in place would represent the largest transfer of power from the government to the people in the history of this country. Those in government would like to keep the power, so getting them to vote for this will be difficult. I imagine there would be some in congress that would hold out until they saw 300 million Americans marching on DC. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-14 01:17:13 EST)

Very well written, easily understandable, well worth the time. Everyone
should read this book to be well informed of the ramifications of our current tax system and then demand our politicians change our taxing structure before our country is forced into bankruptcy. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-01 01:21:09 EST)

The Fair Tax Book proposes the abolition of all federal taxes in the U.S., in particularly the income tax, to be replaced with a national sales tax of 23%. The authors' main rationale for this proposal is a simple greed-soaked outrage: that the much-despised I.R.S. needs to be abolished so we can all keep 100% of our paychecks. The authors also predict that the "Fair Tax" would stimulate the economy, create jobs, save Social Security, and cure cancer. (Okay, maybe not cure cancer).
While the idea of replacing income taxes with a universal consumption tax is intriguing, the Fair Tax Book is not the place to find a thoughtful and balanced evaluation of the concept. Its bold predictions about the interplay of the Fair Tax on corporate behavior and market price structures are supported by scarcly any evidence. No serious research or economic analysis is present -- the authors are not themselves economists, but a conservative radio host and a stone-age politician. The only economists even mentioned in the book are Adam Smith and Milton Friedman (both for general hyper-capitalist platitudes only, never in specific reference to a consumption tax), and then Karl Marx, about whom we are told the opposite must be done (at all costs). Most irritating, the authors take every opportunity to lob cheap shots at the poor, immigrants, "liberals," and other presumed opponents. And in a signal measure of its thin intellectual underpinnings, the authors childishly pre-empt any criticism with an assertions that anyone who disagrees with their proposal either (i) doesn't understand it or (ii) has self-serving, ulterior motives (a truly ironic assertion for a book predicated on abolishing income taxes so we can all pay less). Having finished this volume, no doubt the authors are onto bigger other genius policy pursuits, such as increasing the temperature of the sun (so that Alaska can be warmer) or repainting the Statute of Liberty in fluorescent green (so people can see it from further away). Scary when you consider that one of the authors actually has a vote in the U.S. Congress. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-01 01:21:09 EST)

This is a great explanation on the Fair Tax bill that was introduce to Congress. I was not a supporter of a consumption tax in the past but I am now. The Fair Tax will take the power of tax collecting out of the hands of government and put it into the hands of the consumer. I highly recommend this for every one who buys goods and services.

The FairTax is the best way that I have seen to date to fund our government. The FairTax is simple, straightforward, transparent, pro-America, pro-American, pro-family, pro-business, pro-employee, pro-consumer, pro-citizen... in fact it has so many pros that it shows the cons forwarded by so-called 'critics' for what they are: empty, agenda-based, minutia, that do not have the best interest of America as their basis. Honest debate and concerns are one thing, but agenda driven nitpicking from the demagogic naysayers and the shamestream media is shameful. Shame on you all! May God bless America and the FairTax despite you!

I have studied this system for about two years now. Now, mind you I am just a regular Joe, but this thing could save the country in my honest opinion. It is high time we ended the draconian, antiquated, Marxist tax system we have now. Our current system is the system that Carl Marx was talking about in his book. It needs to end along with the IRS and the Sixteenth Amendment. Write your congressman and senators today. SUPPORT THE FAIR TAX.

Neal Boortz and Cong. John Linder's book is very informative. It helps us see how the FairTax is a viable and reasonable plan to expand the economy within ten years and bring thousands of jobs back to America.
There are so many benefits to this plan, and hundreds of economists have written Congress endorsing it. Mike Huckabee is the only presidential candidate openly explaining how a FairTax would work. I highly encourage you to get this book! We are being triple taxed currently, and the FairTax would eliminate the middle man and send our taxes directly to D.C. when we purchase clothing and give us 100% of our paychecks back! We already pay an embedded tax of 23 to 25% on everything we purchase to help Corporations pay for their Tax Accountant's Mercedes and BMWs. Why not just send that money directly to Uncle Sam? This book is really exciting! Please post your own comments after you read it! This is the most misunderstood plan in history. If everyone in America understood it, they would demand it! The book does explain what the fair tax is and how it would work but it spends to much time on the problems of the existing tax system. To much filler and not enough meat.

Right or wrong, Al Gore and the Global Warming Activist's use very affective tactics to sell their ideas. Changing the way taxes are collected would create efficiencies in our markets that have the potential to greatly increase our standard of living. We need to start selling this idea on as grand scale as they have done.
Where is our movie? Why aren't all the financial shows and major networks sending out the message about the Fair Tax at every opportunity? I realize the present tax system is defended far and wide, yet in reality it was given to us based on lies and deceit. I would defy a supporter of the present system to write a whole book defending it. There just isn't enough evidence that the payroll tax system is good. It's main objective was to tax us before we got our checks so that it won't "hurt as much". If we went back to the pre-1942 system of writing a check at the end of the year there would be an historic tax revolt. If the Global Warming believers could convince "most" americans that they know what the temperature will be in a thousand years, we should be able to convince them that the Fair Tax is an idea who's time has come. Go Neal! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-03-10 12:32:05 EST)

Neal Boortz and John Linder hit a homerun with this book. These guys are experts on the Fair Tax and they explain in a way that anyone, even a child could understand because not only is the Fair Tax - Fair but also simple. Imagine that a Tax plan even a child could understand that cause an economic boom that most cannot imagine. The Fair Tax was created thanks to some patriotic businessmen in Texas - they hired the best economists they could find - free market solution to a government mess - sounds great right. Well it gets even better - they tested along with other plans with the people like you and me - the people chose the FAIR TAX as the BEST PLAN and WANTED the FAIR TAX. I think the economic boom would be similar to Mike Huckabee's (presidential candidate who supports the Fair Tax) plan called vertical politics - America doesn't want left or right they want to go up together - that is the same as the Fair Tax a non-partisan plan which would cause vertical economics - GO STRAIGHT UP and we would all win. If you have not read this book it is a must read. After you read this - get their new book Fair Tax Answering the Critics which is in response to those who either misunderstood the Fair Tax or due to their own financial reasons (tax lobbyist) made up lies about the Fair Tax. You can also check out the Fair Tax at www.fairtax.org and www.boortz.com and you can sign a petition as a citizen co-sponsor Congressman John Linder will be taking to Washington D.C. with 1 million US Citizen signatures - be a part of this - go to: http://www.johnlinder.com/citizen_co_sponsor.asp
The reason some politicians don't get behind the Fair Tax is because it takes their power away - it takes the power from the government and hands it back to WE THE PEOPLE - that frightens those who love power and want to raise your taxes - the Fair Tax would stop that and raise up all Americans economically. Thanks for your time - Elizabeth C. http://mikehuckabee-has-my-vote.blogspot.com/ (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-15 21:57:35 EST)

Boortz makes a very boring subject, interesting with the best answer to the insipid IRS tax code I have ever seen... The FairTax. Don't take the word of politicians and lobbyist that game the tax code to keep their power in Washington, DC that the FairTax won't work. Read this amazing book inspired by bill (HR 25) and written by Georgia's 7th District United States Congressional Representative John Linder with the help of many economist and a few million dollars in studies. See what possibilities await us with the destruction of corruption created in our tax code and the out of business sign going up at the IRS. Jobs coming back from overseas, receiving your entire check (no social security or medicare deducted) and lots more. See why this could be the most power taken back by the citizens of the U.S. since we kicked out the Brits.

I've read this book twice and poured over [...] as well. I've yet to find any credible argument that shows any system being better. Arguments against the Fair Tax are either flat out lies or just some jerk who hasn't done any homework. Several times I've shown the errors of opponents who make it known that they have a PH.D, a Masters, or other credential to intimidate people instead of laying out the facts. They only pointed out in showing their own ignorance.
The IRS has been around since 1862. There are 67,000 pages of loophole filled income tax code that has been constantly amended. This book lays it out for you. In 2 years, I haven't found anything better. If the naysayers haven't spent millions of dollars in research, then they have some other agenda other than the truth. To have a book about taxes actually being interesting is quite a feat. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-10 21:09:59 EST)

The current system raises most of its money from taxes on labor and capital income, thereby reducing incentives to work and save. The Fair Tax raises money from the consumption of new products and services. Imagine an April 15th that is just another day! Imagine never fearing an IRS audit! Imagine being able to save as much money as you want without being taxed for saving! Imagine taking home your entire pay check!
Anyone against the Fair Tax either does not understand the system or profits from the current confusing system. Please read this book and the follow-up "FairTax: The Truth: Answering the Critics" before passing judgment. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-09 13:08:02 EST)

Although Mr. Greer may have read the entire book, it is painfully clear that he simply does not understand the concept of the FairTax. The FairTax was given its name for a reason; it is revenue neutral. Therefore, it does not tax the "middle class and poor" any more than it taxes the rich and visa versa. Every individual is taxed exactly the same rate - this is fair. The FairTax also grants ALL U.S. Citizens a monthly pre-bate. This is similar to the yearly rebate that most taxpayers receive today, however the pre-bate is based on the national poverty level and is received at the beginning of each month to cover the taxes on necessities such as bread, milk, and other common items. Quick example:
A "poor" family of four struggle day by day; a single mother and her three children. Under the FiarTax, not only will this mother be taking home her ENTIRE pay check (no withholdings for federal, Medicare, social security, etc.) she will also be given a monthly pre-bate check for approximately $[...] to cover the cost of taxes on necessities! [...] I will close with Mr. Greer's comment of "Neal counts with "fuzzy math"...I've never seen sales tax calculated that way" regarding the source of the 23% rate. It is apparent that if Mr. Greer has not seen something, it can not exist. If Mr. Greer and the majority of FairTax opponents actually read The Fairtax book, he would understand the difference between an inclusive and an exclusive tax. I hope the rest of you reading these comments will take the short time required to read The Fairtax and educate yourselves. This is a well written and thought provoking book. Our current income tax system is outdated and overweighted by additions accumulated over decades. The FairTax Book proposes a solution. I would like to point out that the it is largely given either 5 stars or 1...this indicates to me that these reviews do not reflect consumer satisfaction with the book so much as consumer reaction to the ideas therein. Don't read this as a political statement. Read is as a non-partisan effort to replace a flawed and broken system with one which will benefit both individuals and our nation.

Illegal aliens, tourists, the underground economy anyone who buys something will pay taxes! The current taxes passed along to the consumer anywhere from 21% to 25% of everything we buy will drop out of the price and be replaced by the fair tax - thus a $100 toaster will still cost $100 but when you buy it - you're paying your income taxes, too. Nothing comes out of your paycheck, you don't realize a higher price on products (maybe briefly till the market competition brings prices down, perhaps lower than they were)and you get the prebate every month (money back for the taxes on essentials up to the poverty level) means that the poorest in our society are paying no taxes at all and may even be "making" money. No taxes on corporations and small businesses means a growing econcomy (research the booming Irish economy - they cut corporate taxes) It brings offshore dollars back here, it brings in new business from outside the country...it secures Social Security. It abolishes the IRS, it abolishes the 16th ammendment and it eliminates all federal taxes, death, inheritance, etc! Most of the negatives you see come from those who do not understand what they have read or have not read in full the HR 25/S 1025 or fear it because it takes the power from the govt and lobbiests and gives it back to the people. It's time to throw the tea overboard, folks - we've been taxed to death and it's just going to get worse, don't wait for someone else to solve your problems - join your local Fair Tax group and let's make a change!

While confusing at times (even for someone with an econ minor, one class away from a major), this book makes an excellent case for the Fair Tax - removing absolutely all payroll & income taxes, instituting a prebate (to ensure no one pays taxes on the necessities of life - and CABLE TV and a WII are NOT NECESSITIES) and replacing the payroll/income taxes with a federal sales tax. I'm not going to rewrite the book here, but if I thought I was a rabid FairTax fan before I read the book, I'm absolutely a fan now.
The only reason to oppose this plan is that you somehow benefit from class warfare and the status quo or you are an elected official who fears loss of power if this plan were to be implemented. Listen to the critics, but read the book - it answers them. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-26 10:16:09 EST)

Who would've thought that a book about taxes would be interesting? This book was a real eye opener for me about the history of our tax system. No tax system is perfect, but the FairTax plan sure beats what we have now.
Today I received an email forward about Hershey Chocolate moving their company to Mexico (I googled and turns out about 10% of the company is moving). The email was calling for a boycott and was bad-mouthing Hershey as an evil, greedy corporation. Many American companies can't compete with companies overseas, it's not a level playing ground. With the fairtax, American companies would certainly be more encouraged to stay here on our land. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-22 09:00:12 EST)

I wanted to read up on what candidate Huckabee was talking about so I ordered this expensice, at over $30, book, thinking I could pass it around to my friends and it was supposed to be in excellent, like new, condition and it came and the cover had obviously been all wet as the color had run and there was scribbling through out. Worth $2.00 at a used book seller tops. I feel that they were dishonest in there depiction of the book and I was taken for an absurd amount for this shoddy dirty used hard product. Shame on them.

There is no more accurate description of the FairTax than this book. Not since Adams debated TJ has there been a more enlightened discussion of taxation! This is the most important political issue of this generation. Read The FairTax Book!

The fair tax is probably the best thing that could happen to this country. Anyone who doesn't think that has not read this book. Its common sense!

This easy to read book presents an idea called the "FairTax". This FairTax would be a consumption tax levied on the sales of new items and on all services. This FairTax would be set at 23%. The authors claim that by adopting this type of taxation we can do away with all other types of taxation.
The authors spend a great deal of pages speculating why this FairTax would be good for the people, the government and the economy. Personally, I would have liked to read, in detail, how these economists and business people, that thought up the FairTax, came with the 23% figure and how they determined that the government would keep collecting the same amount of money they now collect through the current means of taxation. If the FairTax idea turns out to be sound, it might become the usher of a new era for the nation and maybe even for the whole world. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-14 22:10:11 EST)

The concept of a National Sales Tax is not new. In fact, they have it in place in most European countries conservatives claim overly tax their citizens.
Neal Boortz uses highly convenient slight of hand tricks. He maintains that economists show that earnings will rise and prices will drop. In actuality, no economist he interviewed for the book maintains this. They all state either prices will drop or salaries will rise one or the other, but not both. Neal also misleads the reader by calling the tax a 23% sales tax. But read closely at his examples and you'll see, it's nearly a 30% sales tax. For example, if you buy a candy bar for $1.00 and pay a 23% sales tax, you'd expect to pay $1.23, right? Neal counts with "fuzzy math". Under his tax plan, you'd pay $1.29 with the logic that 29-cents is 23% of $1.29. I've never seen sales tax calculated that way, but it sure makes the number lower. Neal also states in his book that the IRS will be abolished and that the tax services industry will become a thing of the past. This is wishful thinking. If you don't believe me, read the actual legislation of HR25 which is over 113 pages long and references scores of other tax laws. Here's an excerpt from the legislation: ============================================ "SEC 204 (a) In General- Every person filing a timely monthly report (with regard to extensions) in compliance with section 501 shall be entitled to a taxpayer administrative credit equal to the greater of-- `(1) $200, or `(2) one-quarter of 1 percent of the tax remitted. `(b) Limitation- The credit allowed under this section shall not exceed 20 percent of the tax due to be remitted prior to the application of any credit or credits permitted by section 201." ============================================ Hmm... filing a monthly report. Sounds like forms. Hmm... this sounds complicated, I may need a tax lawyer. And who will be overseeing all these reports and issuing all these tax credits? You guessed it, the IRS. Neal's arguments are simple to understand, like the car salesman's pitch that says quite simply, "buy a car from me and I'll save you money!". But the devil is in the details and diving into the details takes work, something the average citizen is too lazy to do. Here's a simple argument. If a national sales tax will bring in the same amount of revenue as the current system, it will only redistribute the tax burden. Under the national sales tax, the wealthy will pay substantially less tax. That deficit will be made up by the middle-class and the poor, namely, you the reader of this review. This is equivalent to the government taking money out of your pocket and putting it into the pocket of the wealthy. This is a fact. There is no other way around it. So, if you personally want to pay more taxes than you do now, support the NST. If you would rather give the wealthy a big tax break in the hopes it will trickle down to you, support the NST. In closing, this book is misguided, misleading, and factually challenged. If you want to understand more about tax reform, my advice is to get your information from an economics professor instead of a talk-show host. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-10 19:22:03 EST)

Everyone should read this book so they will be correctly informed about the sales tax. Book is loaded with facts to support ideas. READ THIS BOOK REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD. And if you don't agree with the fair tax, at least you can say you have done your homework!!!

This is a great book. If you do not understand what the FairTax is, read it. Everyone should be for the FairTax. The book was pretty interesting and not a snoozer as one might expect from a tax book.

Just read these two articles:
http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110010523 http://money.cnn.com/2005/09/06/pf/taxes/consumptiontax_0510/index.htm --------------------------------------------------------------- "Part of the problem is the way Boortz and Linder are using the idea of embedded taxes. In an eight-year-old study paid for by AFFT, Harvard economist Dale Jorgenson noted that because the taxes paid by everyone in the chain of production are embedded in the cost of goods, prices could decline an average of 20 percent if all those taxes were scrapped. The FairTax Book devotes an entire chapter to this idea. What The FairTax Book fails to mention is that prices can only fall this sharply if companies cut wages. I asked Jorgenson about this, and he agreed. Say your salary is $100,000 a year today, but you take home $80,000 after taxes." ---------------------- AND ----------------------------------- "A 2000 estimate by Congress's Joint Committee on Taxation found the tax-inclusive rate would have to be 36% and the tax-exclusive rate would be 57%. In 2005, the U.S. Treasury Department calculated that a tax-exclusive rate of 34% would be needed just to replace the income tax, leaving the payroll tax in place. But if evasion were high then the rate might have to rise to 49%. If the FairTax were only able to cover the limited sales tax base of a typical state, then a rate of 64% would be required (89% with high evasion)." --------------------------------------------------------------- The burden will be on middle class people, even after the proposed rebate. So the only way for middle class families to cope with decreased salary and increased tax would be to reduce spending. Now how does this reduced spending help the economy grow? Just think about it. Read this book carefully because there is a lot within the covers. If you skim it, that's how much you'll get out of the book. This book will enlighten you why companies choose to build their product in a foreign land. It also requires an understanding of basic arithmetic to calculate answers. A good read.

I've read Neal's and John's first book and it's a fantastic idea, evidently highly researched and studied by economists and professionals alike. The book is an easy read, the subject matter being handled with humor and a reading level that's light enough for the majority of the American public, young people included. It does not contain too much technical explanation, but gives enough information in clear examples that anyone can understand.
This is a subject that is of crucial importance to the American people not only because of the immediate positive effect on our personal finances, but also because of the positive effect on our government! This system would take care of the needs of the government with ease. What a great concept, one that deserves attention as well as implementation. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-14 07:24:49 EST)

After doing a lot of study on this subject, combing through the counter arguments and rebuttals, I was in amazement that this hasn't already been enacted. People need to understand how this is going to benefit every American, how money will flood into the recesses and buoy up the whole country. OK, maybe that's a little strong, but that's the general idea.
This is going to be the greatest boon to this country since independence. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-14 07:24:49 EST)

Wow, this is probably the best idea for our country. If everyone read this book and understood the Fair Tax then I'm sure the bill would get passed. Even people without a high school degree could understand this book. Neal Boortz is an excellent writer and this book is no exception. A great read for anyone who pays taxes (I think that includes all of us!). Anyways, buy this book....You won't be disappointed!!!!!

Very informative book. With each passing page and chapter, I got angrier and angrier with our current tax failure.
The idiots in congress need to actually start to work on getting rid of the old and bring in the FairTax. I'm anxiously awaiting the follow-on book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-14 07:24:49 EST)

"The income tax has made more liars out of the American people than golf has" --------------Will Rogers
Imagine, "April 15th just another spring day". "Consumption Tax" crusader's Neal Boortz and John Linder deliver thought (anger) provoking examples of the waste and corruption the current (legalized theft) tax system induces, along with their fortified plan of changing it. Playfully written (all Boortz), short, to the point, and simple enough a child could understand. These guys tackle difficult questions and shoulder good arguments against the opponents. I have been waiting for something like this for years----and here it is; do you think any Presidential candidate will risk it? We cannot continue on this road: the tax code is like a many colored threadbare patchwork quilt that punishes achievement; it has failed. Let's send the power back to the people; the burden lifts from us to the government (where it belongs). The IRS "to spend more than $400 billion to collect just three times that in revenue is not only inefficient, its completely dumb" Boortz and Linder start out with a painful history lesson. They then site what will occur once this plan is initiated: money lost oversees will come back here, hidden taxes will be wiped out (will be able to better track where your government tax dollars are going; who's money is it?), government will be more accountable, will encourage businesses and workers to come back to the US, will slow the effect of tax evasion (the tax code spawns corruption, greed and lies), and social security and medicare/caid will benefit; with a one time tax on goods, the economy will ignite say the experts, and it "would bring a period of transformation and economic growth to America such has never been seen before". The one negative factor of our current system that I never thought of is the privacy issue. They end the book by addressing the charges made against the plan; those of course who profit from our tax system will be against it. We may look at the boiling frog analogy when it comes to the evolution of the tax. We've been had my friends; what a waste. Give to Caesar what is Caesar's you may say, well maybe but I don't see it (the current system) as being biblical: it is oppressive, it stirs class hatred, it is Marxist in its underpinnings, and it keeps the poor poor and dependent. At what point do the rich pay their fair share? Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" comes to mind: I recommend this girthy novel just for its look at what would happen to our country if the corporate minds were to capitulate and vanish. Yes, the tax percentage rate (even using the "fair tax") could be raised each year. But it is up to us to vote for that candidate who won't raise them. Is there a politician in the wings who has the will? Everyone! needs to read this and consider this or a similar plan. Do you know what you actually make? An easy read providing valuable historical information about our current Federal income tax; that is, how we got here. The plan tells us how to increase revenue & jobs while reducing the tax burden, Its simplicity makes you wonder why we haven't done this before. The lobbyists and the legal fraternity are dead set against this program. I have already written my congressmen urging them to act to adopt this system.

Our tax system is broken and it is harming our economy more than most realize. This book shows us the cure. No tax system will ever be perfect but the Fair Tax is close. The book gives an overview of some of the problems of the current code and the benefits of the Fair Tax alternative.
There are only two candidates for President that I know of that are supporting the Fair Tax, Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul. One of those two will get my support as I believe this is the most important issue. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-12-08 01:21:56 EST)
