|
There are four ways a woman can handle heartbreak. She can fall apart, seek revenge, turn cold, or move on. The Ex Files is the story of these four women:
When Kendall Stewart finds her husband and her sister in bed together, she vows to never let anyone get that close again. But when she is faced with saving the life of the woman who destroyed hers, will she be able to forgive? When an NBA superstar tells his mistress, Asia Ingrum, that he's decided to honor his marriage vows, her shock quickly gives way to revenge...but her decision may come back to haunt their five-year-old daughter. Every night Vanessa Martin wonders why her husband committed suicide. Even worse, she contemplates joining him in eternity. Will Vanessa be able to gather the strength to live again? Sheridan Hart is finally finding her way after a lie destroyed her seventeen-year marriage. Her new love is ready to get married, but will she commit to this younger man or is her ex-husband taking up too much space in her heart? When their pastor asks Kendall, Asia, Vanessa, and Sheridan to meet weekly for prayer, they can't imagine they will have anything in common. But then a devastating tragedy strikes and these strangers are forced to reexamine their choices. Will they find true friendship, or will prayer -- and their union -- fail them? |

Love Victoria's work. You never know what you have in common until God brings you to a point to find out. This book touched on relationships and their complexities, and what lengths people will go through to obtain their selfish desires. A great read!

Four women learning to cope with the end of their relationships
Sheridan from Grown folks business, three years later why is she reluctant to marry younger man Brock, does she still pine for her ex husband Quentin? Kendall - betrayed doubly by husband and sister does she have the strength to forgive them both or does she take the opportunity for revenge. Out of all the characters she is the one I sympathised with the most. If any Christian was to say forgiveness means living happily ever after with the one that has wronged you they would be lying. Sometimes restoration is possible but sometimes distance is the best path to take. If I were Kendall I would never trust my sister with one cent. Asia - professional mistress, youngest in the group, at 28 never did a days work in her life, harbours dreams of being the wife. But for all her faults loves her daughter Angel, however her plans for revenge for being spurned by her married lover may ricochet. Vanessa - widowed lady with low self esteem issues. Her whole esteem is wrapped up in her husband the only man she ever loved and it seemed dated. Yet he leaves in the most horrible way via sucide. Does she have the strength to let go and let God? Buy this books folks, it stands alone but if you can read Grown folks busines first. Message to VCM please write a sequel! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-19 02:31:18 EST)

I read this book out of sequence, so I was not up on the characters in Grown Folks Business. When I did read The Ex Files, it explained a lot of what happened. I always enjoy Ms. Murray's books because she has the christian theme, but is not preachy and uses a lot of "life experiences" in her story lines. None of them are over the top or just too unbelievable. She is an excellent author.

Ms. Murray pens a great tale about four women who struggles with faith, men, and themselves. The Ex Files is a good read and you will definitely feel for each of the characters.
Kendra must struggle with forgiveness and betrayal. The question is how do you forgive, forget, and move on when the very ones... who hurt you are those closest to you. Asia must learn to grow-up and stop using people. How far will she go to get what she thinks she deserves. What is she willing to sacrifice? Will she stop at anything? Can she learn to move on and stop using people as pawns in her ill game of chess? Sheridan....must learn to let the past be exactly that... the past. Will she lose the man of her dreams for her dreams of yesterday? Will she deny herself a chance to live wholly again? Is her faith strong enough? Vanessa...does she have the faith the size of a mustard seed?...does she trust God? Doesn't she believe that He'll heal her soul....that He'll be a comforter in her time of need? Or will Vanessa commit the ultimate sin. Come and take this journey with these four ladies and their wise pastor who has the forsight to see that they need spiritual guidance to move forward, to trust God and hopefully leave the ghosts of their past in their past. Will these ladies be able to move on with their lives and conquer the ghosts of their Ex's. The ExFiles is a page turning novel. You won't be disappointed with this read. Ms.Murray had done it again what a powerful novel to bring these sister together when the pastor saw that they need something different, and ask then to meeting pray. You could feel the spirit that was in this story and to see sheridan back from grown folks business and still dealing with her life and the love she had for these two men. Then I look at asia so young and the live that she was living and the things she was doing she had to stop and pray help her to over come the problems she had.But then we look at kendall and what she was dealing with her husband and her sister its so hard to forgive but pray over come her problem to then vanessa she was a strong women what happen? These women came together in pray some over come one didn't. When we come together in pray God moves in so many wonderful ways. This book is a must read.

Review
"The EX-Files" By Victoria Christopher Murray From page 1 of this book , I have only one word - WOW! 4 lives, all different paths, but sharing one thing in common - going through major pain caused by the men in their lives. I wondered how they would come to share a bond together but was quickly made aware when they were thrust together to participate in a prayer meeting. From the start, Vanessa, Asia, Kendall, and Sheridan don't realize how much they have in common and do just about everything they can to keep their distance from each other. Eventually, they come to the conclusion that maybe they can help each other in more ways imaginable. Brilliant writing, characters that you are drawn to, and a storyline that flows off the pages easily and succinctly. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a realistic and emotion-filled journey - you will not regret it. I met Ms. Murray at a book signing in Dallas, TX around a year ago. The question was askied why does she end her books the way that she does - somewhat unfinished. Her response was that she liked to give the reader the opportunity to pick their own endings. Having said that, once I reached the end of the book, by all my calculations, each character had a happy ending and I wouldn't have it any other way. I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it. It gives a very good lesson on forgiveness and I would love to see a sequel just to see how the characters are doing. The thing that Asia did made me so mad that I wanted to smack her. Vanessa left me disappointed too.
Ms. Murray never disappoints. Keep up the good work. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-22 02:29:16 EST)

One thing VCM is good at is comin' up with the drama. She has no problems presenting situations that can more than test anyone's faith. And while there are certainly distracting things pertaining to the author's writing style, she certainly more than makes up for it with the high drama situations. Asia-certainly reminds me of Jasmine from Sin of a Shame-from mannerisms and behavior all the way down to her poor planning on how to keep the men they love. Sheridan, really didn't offer much in this book. It's all the same ground we covered before in Grown Folks Business. I did perk up with the small drama dealing with Tori, but the author quietly pulled away from something that would have really spun Sheridan's world out of control. Vanessa was unfortunate, I really would've liked to see her win, but the author did make a bold choice in dealing with her situation. And finally, Kendall. I'm sorry, but Kendall ruled this book for me. I was seriously feeling Kendall's situation and couldn't believe how everyone made it seem that she was the bad guy in all this. If a man worked as much as she did, a woman griping would have been viewed as ungrateful. There's so much with her story, I really felt she deserved her own book. Overall, this is a wonderful page turner-bound to give you hours of juicy reading.

I am ashamed to admit it but this is the first novel I have read by Victoria Christopher Murray. After reading this work, I plan to backtrack and read the others.
The author has a knack for fully engaging the reader in each scene so that you have a good visual in your head as you read as well as a good understanding of each character. I was pleased with how she wove Christianity in what could be any woman's story. The Faith aspect wasn't spooky, overkill or on some high religious plain that made it seem unattainable. It was Christianity 101 at it's best and easily digestible. That says a lot. I was also pleased at some of the twists in the novel. Given the genre I expecetd everything to have a neat and pretty bow on it and to be settled with an Amen. That was not the case and I loved every minute of it. I kept stealing reads at work because I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. If you want a "keeping it real" novel but don't want the profanity and inappropriate content offered by other novels, I highly recommend this one. If you have trouble with forgivness and/or letting people/situations go, I also highly recommend this read (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-03 02:29:35 EST)

My goodness, christian fiction is just as good as non christian fiction. Like I always say about Ms. Murray, Jacquelin Thomas, ReShonda Tate Billingsley and other christian writers, you don't need offensive language and raunchy sex acts for a novel to be enjoyable. I like the characters and the storylines plus it was good to hear from the Hart family again. Vanessa's demise was a shock..I didn't think she'd actually do it, and last but not least what kind of name is Noon Thursday Jones?

This book was GREAT! I can not think of what to say. It has left me speechless b/c I could relate to all of the women in some way. This book also answered some questions that some women have asked themselves or others. I will be recommending this book to anyone who ask. Keep up the good work Victoria!

In this tale of self discovery you meet four women, Asia, Kendall, Stephanie and Vanessa who think they have nothing in common but in the end find out they share a bond that is unbreakable. I went through so many emotions reading thsi story, and I'd have to say Vanessa's story cut me the deepest. Asia, with her scandelous self, had me fit to be tied but I was glad to see her come around also. Stephanie and Kendall, they had definitely come a long way by the time the book ended. This one is certainly a must read.

Asia Ingrum always knew she would marry up and live the glamorous life. Asia used her charms to get involved with Bobby, a NBA super star, who she thought she would marry. She never thought the impossible would happen.
Kendall Stewart loved her husband and knew they would always be together. That is until she found him in bed with her sister. One unforgettable instance of betrayal cost her marriage and may destroy her family as well. Vanessa Martin is reeling behind the death of her husband, Reed. He was the center of her life and she can't understand why he committed suicide. Why has God turned his back on her? Sheridan Hart is back after her marriage was destroyed by the homosexual affair her husband was involved in. Pastor Ford asked her to lead a bible study but for the life of her she doesn't understand why. As these ladies sacrifice one evening a week to participate in a new prayer group, they begin to realize what they have in common - an undying love of God. Now all they have to do is figure out what God has in store for them. As tragedy overcomes the group, their newly found sisterhood will help get them through. The Ex Files definitely stays with the trend that VCM has set - BEST SELLER. The storyline flows between characters making you part of their lives. The intense nature of their problems draws the reader in while the religious undertones will have you evaluate your own life. Another VCM blockbuster, don't sleep on this outstanding story. I'd give 4.5 stars if available.
I haven't read a racier Christian novel this year. Spicy, embarrassingly so, in some spots. But also gritty in consequences and pain. Almost feels like the voyeuristic blush I get when reading Song of Solomon, or some of "those" passages in the prophets. Four characters each face the end of a relationship -- a mistress, and three wives. All relationships are devastated by sinful choices and are full of the fallout of consequence. Each of the four women handles her situation in a unique way or blend of dysfunction. One grows icy cold, another gives up, a third comes out fighting. In the end we see some healing and growth that comes from internal surgery brought about through the characters pain. The storytelling is fabulous. Some passive writing is the major mechanical flaw but the story certainly overcomes this minor issue. The Ex-Files made me squirm and judge and then fall under conviction. I think those of us who've been in the church for a long time will be more horrified at these "Christian" ladies behaviors because they are so obviously blatant in their choices. But after we've been steeped in religion, our sins tend to be more subtle, becoming attitudes or whispers. The Ex-File reminded me that these "lesser sins" also need to be put under Christ's Lordship and forgiven as they are indeed ugly sins. You may not be ready to read this book. Don't give it to Grandma for Christmas without checking out a few pages yourself. Certainly don't leave it lying around for a bored twelve-year-old. Please don't overlook or discount the lessons in this book of parables. The outloud sins of the characters and the lavish grace of Jesus's forgiveness may call some who struggle deeply with sin strongholds into giving those patterns to Christ. Prodigals may benefit, older teens (very mature - this is PG-13+) may benefit from seeing the internal, emotional consequences of the drama lifestyle. If you're looking for gritty and edgy Christian fiction - you might want to look into The Ex-Files. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-03 17:23:00 EST)

The Ex Files is a very good book about four different women who are brought together by a very insightful woman pastor. Ms. Murray tells the characters' individual stories in such a way as to allow the reader to get to know the personality strengths and weaknesses of each woman. Each character has a deeply felt situation that she is dealing with.
Murray shows how the four women come together in their prayer group and develop a bond of concern that transcends their individualism. The situation that each woman is confronting in her "ex relationship" is very realistic. I enjoyed finding out more about Sheridan Hart and being introduced to the other three characters in the novel. I think women who are seeking personal growth through the mutual support and prayer of other women will enjoy this book. The novel provides many topics that book club members can discuss. Sheridan Hart's thirteen years old daughter Tori blithely announces her father (and Sheridan's ex) has a new lover. Their marriage ended three years ago when Quentin informed her he loved a man. Sheridan has moved on somewhat having found the younger Block, but he wants more of a commitment while she has doubts.
Kendall Stewart ended her marriage with Anthony when she caught him in bed with her sister Sabrina. The double betrayal has left her acrimonious, but now Sabrina needs her sibling's help with her life on the line. Asia Ingram is angry that her lover Bobby has decided to end their relationship and be faithful to his marital vows. Her bitterness leads to a need to hurt Bobby, but could also harm their five year old daughter Angel if he retaliates with a custody suit. Vanessa Martin feels guilt and loneliness because she did not see how distraught her late spouse Reed was until he committed suicide. Depressed she thinks of joining him. Pastor Ford knows these four females are hurting so as he prays for them, he brings them together for a weekly prayer session of the EX FILES. This is a deep character study of the aftermath of divorce on the female partner. The story line rotates perspective between the four women so that the audience sees each up close, flaws and all. Although everything ties up to neatly fans will enjoy this insightful look at a prayer group who turn into a support group of friends. THE EX FILES is not a scientific read, quite the contrary. It is a simple yet compelling story about four women struggling with the loss of their partners.
-Sheridan's husband, of sixteen years, left her for a man. The marriage has been over for three years and she has a new man in her life. But, Sheridan never put an emotional end to the marriage and her indecisiveness may send her new man away; then her 'ex' re-enters her life. -Kendall and her husband built a business together before they married. She catches him in bed with her sister and she is done. They divorce, but still share the business. Kendall wants them both to suffer, so when her 'ex' asks her to help save her sister's life, she refuses and distances herself from them. -Asia is twenty-seven, and has never worked a day of her life. For the past ten years she has lived in hopes of marrying the NBA star who is her part time, live-in sponsor. But, he returns to his wife leaving her and their five-year-old daughter. Asia seeks serious revenge, but will it destroy her daughter? -Vanessa was married for six years, and loved every day of it. For no apparent reason her husband committed suicide; it left a hole in her soul. She cannot deal with the painful emptiness. Encouraged by their pastor, the four women meet and discover a similarity in their predicaments. With a foundation of prayer, they let God into their lives and develop a bond. Then a surprising tragedy forces them to gather spiritual strength, move past their respective heartbreaks, and seek forgiveness and redemption. THE EX FILES is emotionally charged with familiar characters, definitive storylines, and an engaging plot. The magnitude of this story puts emphasis on the power of prayer and resonates after the book is closed. Reviewed by aNN of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-08-13 02:23:44 EST)

WOW!!!! Ms. Murray is just awesome!!!! She delivers yet another best selling novel that centers around four strangers that all have different difficult circumstances, but as the old saying goes....everybody has a story!
In Gate #1 stands Vanessa, a matronly widow, that's grieving for her husband that committed suicide without her even knowing or understanding the motive for his death. In Gate #2 enters Asia, the baby of the group, that in all her diamonds and designer glory, has an even bigger issue. She's in love with another woman's husband, has her future penned on his millions, and did I mention their love child. Sounds like the same sad love song, because he is NOT and has never had any intention of leaving his wife for his mistress. But, he didn't remember that you have to beware of a woman scorned. Gate #3 struts in Kendall, a savvy business woman, recently divorced, seemingly has it all together. That is she thought she did until she discovered her husband in their bed with her sister. You know that is nothing but drama. And at our last gate is Sheridan, mother, ex-wife, lover to Brock, and Christian striving every day to do the right thing. She has had to struggle with her new found love in Brock, any woman's fantasy, her ex-husband that decided he was bi-sexual, and her daughter that has to cope with her individuality. Her plate is full and that's for sure. Mr. Murray introduces all of these characters with such pizazz that you will fall in love with each of them, gasp at some of their antics, feel their pain, and cheer for them on the sidelines as you turn each and every page! When I finished this book, I had to take a deep breath, meditate, and then finally exhale!! She takes you above and beyond each of their realistic trials and tribulations, their triumphs and disappointments!!! She does her thang and mos def defines each and every character to the extreme!!! Super read!! As I've said before, I believe that we need closure, because with rain comes the sun, and we want to see how these ladies glory in their sunshine!!! Take your well deserved bow, sista!!! You're all that!!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-08-13 02:23:44 EST)

The master storyteller has done it again. Written a novel I couldn't put down. This author just amazes me. With each book she tries something different and always pulls it off. Great characters and a powerful theme. The only disappointing thing is now I have to wait another 11 months for a new book.

Women can deal with heart break in so many different ways. They can distance themselves from everyone, turn vindictive, put on a fake front to hide what's really going on, or they can move on. In The Ex-Files, there are four women that deal with heartbreak completely different from the other.
When Sheridan Hart came to terms that her husband broke her heart after seventeen years of marriage, she found the strength to move on. And that she did....with a younger man. Now, he's ready for the lifelong commitment, but there's something holding Sheridan back. Can she commit to this man, or does she have the fear that he will break his commitment to her like her ex-husband did? Vanessa Martin finds it hard to sleep at night since her husband committed suicide. She lays awake at night wondering why he ended his life and left her alone. Now, she's thinking about leaving this earth the same way her husband did. What will she decide? Kendall Stewart has heart break that no one could imagine. After a business trip ended early, she decides to go home and surprise her husband. Well, she got the surprise of her life...her sister in bed with her husband!!! When she is faced with a life changing decision that will change her life and the life of her sister, will she choose forgiveness or revenge? How would you describe Asia Ingrum? Is she a groupie of the NBA, mistress, or gold digger? According to her, she was none of the above. She was in love with a NBA Star and he was in love with her, so she thought. There was only one problem: he is married. When he decided that it was time to end their 10 year affair and work things out with his wife, which was not a good decision for Asia. She was not willing to give him up without a fight. The decisions she makes would not only hurt him and his wife, but also her daughter that loved her daddy. Will the revenge she seeks destroy her life or theirs? When Vanessa, Asia, Sheridan, and Kendall receive a mysterious request from their Pastor for a meeting, none of the women realized that the other was invited as well. Or that they would have more in common then they wanted to admit. When tragedy strikes, they soon understand they need each other more than they know. Will they find true friendships or will they go their separate ways? Victoria Christopher Murray has done it again with The Ex-Files! This book was a real page turner. I could not put the book down when I started to read it. It will make you laugh, cry, and angry during every scenario that each woman go through. You find yourself thinking about someone in your life that reminds you of one of the characters. This book was well written and reminds you of things that women will do if their hearts are broken. The way she brought the four women together that come from very different backgrounds, and bonded them together by faith was remarkable. Trust me, once you pick this book up, you will not put it down until you've completed it. Ms. Murray once again wrote another bestseller. This book could be a reflection on any one of our lives. As I was reading, I wondered to myself, what would I do in this situation? I found myself laughing, crying, appreciating my sisterfriends and reflecting on the faith a person must have in God, to make it through life's challenges. Ms. Murray has been given an awesome gift from God, through her writings. I look forward to her next book.

Victoria Christopher Murray is an exceptional writer. She has expounded on the lives of 4 totally different personalities, situations and women. She has captured the hearts of all those involved. Through tragedy, there is a miracle, through hurt, pain and turmoil there is still GOD. You find peace when you pray and rest upon the Lord to guide, and we should all know that God speaks and leads through others at times. With Asia, she learns the hard way, and then you learn that it is not always what it seems and you can play a game that you created and lose. Sheridan you learn that through family there may be turmoil, but you have to find peace to clarify what needs to happens and when there is a coma or a period. Vanessa, through grief, you never know the end result, sometimes life is too hard to live without some guidance, but we need to learn how to focus on GOD and when he says everything will be alright, you trust in him and stop trying to figure things out. Follow your heart & not your head. Kendall, we see where the pain is so deep that we are blinded and hurt those around us because we are hurting, situations out of your control, you let go of and allow God to handle and you move on and that is what she needed to do, Don't allow your pain to come down to life or death, think Kendall what would Jesus do?! These women all have someone in their lives that love them and beyond the ones that they are focusing on. As a group together, they are tremendously encouraging, because they are so different and they have at least one thing in common, they need someone to talk to and someone to rationalize, because each of them displays irrational behavior in regards to their situation. It is real life drama. I rated this book a four because for me there were some unanswered questions, but ultimately it was a good and quick read.

Victoria Christopher Murray has written a powerful book about faith, forgiveness, and sisterhood. The brillant "The Ex-Files" stands out in a field riddled with "hokey" Christian fiction. The women in this book could be your neighbor, your sister, or even YOU!
Buy it! Tell your friends and enemies about! Enjoy it! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-07 02:21:06 EST)

So, will there be a sequel? But then again I am not surprised at your creative mind and wisdom. Thanks for sharing this journey with us. Yes, I too was hearing the sea roar, feeling the peace and tranquility as I envisioned myself in Kendall's beach home. I was feeling the pain for Asia, putting my self where Vanessa was -- so scary but true for some. Trying to understand Mr. Quentin. Sheridan's love and confusion. You kept it real and honest. I looked up that scripture in Matthews too! It's deep. PLEASE, PLEASE PURCHASE THIS BOOK!!!!!

I absolutely loved this book. Ms. Victoria put her foot and the kitchen sink in this one! The only thing that left me hanging was I really wanted to know what happened between Bobby and his daughter after all the drama settled. And Ms. Thang, Aisa, still never came completely clean about what she did. Other than that, I would read this book again, I enjoyed it so much. And it also proves that prayer changes things!!!

The Ex Files is a great story about four women Asia,Kendall, Vanessa and Sheridan brought together by Pastor Ford who felt they could help each other. All of them have one thing in common a broken heart. Reluctantly they form a weekly prayer group with Sheridan as the leader. As the weeks goes by they develop a bond based on friendship. Faith and the support of each other helps them get through all of their struggles and helps them to move on.

The uniqueness of this story really pulled me in. Each woman had their own drama and were mismatched as friends, but after some seriously hard times came upon each of them, they learned to reach out to each other and seek God for strength. The Ex Files is like a soap opera with four stories going at the same time, yet they intersect on occasion. The cool thing about the plots in this book were that they were all equally compelling. Usually I want to take one character's plot and dive ahead to the next place where they are featured in the book. But I was never tempted to do that with The Ex Files because none of the stories were dull or unlikable.
The conflict was real, the emotion went deep into the character's lives, and the best part about these four ladies lives was that none of their ultimate choices were predictable. In fact, each ending turned out differently than I had anticipated. Also, the author did an amazing job of taking an unlikeable characteristic such as selfishness and still managed to make me care about the women in the book. Each had issues that centered around their own needs and how they dealt with their problems was so realistic and well done. The faith element was perfectly incorporated as well. I just love the ingenuity and creativity in this author's novels. I'm going to have to read everything she publishes from now on. I don't want to miss a thing! APOOO Rating- 4.5
The Ex-Files brings four unlikely women together. They have all been hurt in some form or fashion by their exes. Murray brings Sheridan Hart back from Grown Folks Business. Sheridan is the leader of the prayer group. While it was two years ago that her husband left her for a man, she is still trying to cope with not having him in her life and moving on with someone new. Vanessa Martin puts on a great front for the group. She is coping with the death of her husband. It is so unbearable sometimes, that she wants to do anything to be with him again. Kendall Stewart caught her husband in bed with her sister. She decides to write them both off...no husband and no sister. But things quickly change and she is faced with stepping up for her family. Asia Ingrum is the youngest one of the group. She is also the only one that is not married. She was actually the mistress to a NBA player. He decides to make it work with his wife and leaves Asia AND her child alone. Their pastor suggests that they come together in a prayer group and hopefully work through their situations. They soon realize they have a lot more in common then they first thought. You quickly become invested in each character. How will each of them deal with the end of a relationship? Murray does it again and definitely delivers a great story. This one will grip your heart. Donnica Copeland APOOO BookClub (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-06-15 02:43:45 EST)
