Would you like to save yourself the indignity, inconvenience and foul taste of modern diet fads? Are you sick and tired of frittering away your money on heart medications that leave you feeling more wretched than ever? Do you spend frequent, precious hours jogging or pounding away at the gym? And despite all of this effort, are you still fatter and weaker than you want to be?
Then it's time to abandon the Modern Gospel of low-fat food and long-duration exercise as a path to heart health. We need the very opposite, says Al Sears, M.D. in The Doctor's Heart Cure. According to Dr. Sears, heart disease continues to be America's biggest killer - and obesity has reached epidemic proportions - because of the fad for low-fat diets and despite aerobics. Your heart's salvation lies in reengineering the diet and exercise habits of our hunter-gatherer ancestors to fit our modern culture. What does this entail? To build a strong and resilient heart, says Dr. Sears, engage in brief, explosive bouts of intense exercise. Consume a diet rich in high quality fat, pasture-fed meat, free-range dairy, wild-caught fish and liberal helpings of low-glycemic fruits and vegetables. Avoid grain-based starches as best you can. And take appropriate supplements to counteract the nutritional deficiencies of modern produce. As Director of The Center for Health and Wellness, an integrative medicine and anti-aging clinic in south Florida, Dr. Sears has used this plan to help more than 15,000 patients successfully reverse heart disease, build stronger hearts, manage their weight and abandon their heart medications. In The Doctor's Heart Cure, for the first time, Dr. Sears reveals his entire, proven program, so you too can safely build an impregnable heart. Discover: |

Dr. Al Sears has a new concept about health and nutrition. Basically, you need to stay away from processed foods, bread, and unhealthy carbs. In addition, you need to do high intensity, short duration exercise. Get the heart pumping and stop doing low intensity long duration exercise. That type of exercise will actually make your body weak and increase your fat levels. According to Dr. Sears, some of the best foods you can eat are organic/wild fish, beaf, eggs, chicken, etc. Eat fruits, nuts, and veggies except potatoes and peanuts (which aren't nuts). It's well written and easy reading.

I have been a diabetic for several years and have read multiple books. Many call for the traditional high fiber, low fat diet. I must say if you are not willing to follow the suggestions in this book, it will not be helpful. If you do decide to implement the recommendations you will see immediate improvement in glucose and cholestrol levels as well as increased energy levels.

Back in 2001, my father suffered a heart attack. He was 51 at the time and aside from arthritis pain, was otherwise healthy. There was a family history of heart disease, but he went for regular checkups and his heart had been in fine condition up until that point, his doctor had seen no previous cause for concern. It wasn't until a few months later that the media started talking about the medication Vioxx and it's link to heart attacks, etc. My father had been prescribed Vioxx just a few months prior to his heart attack.
Since then he'd been prescribed a cocktail of drugs to "prevent" another attack, but they brought a whole slew of other problems....more pain, depleted energy, trouble sleeping and the like and even with cutting back on all the foods his doctors told him were a no-no after a heart attack, he gained about 50 lbs! Before all the heart medications, my father was an active man...spending hours in the garage working on his classic cars or going out to the lake on the weekends to canoe....but after being prescribed all these new meds he just didn't have the energy to enjoy life anymore...he'd come home from work and would be asleep in the chair before you even had a chance to ask him about his day. When I came across The Doctor's Heart Cure, I was skeptical at first but I read it through and agreed with everything Dr. Sears had to say....the next hurdle was getting my father, who has nothing but pure faith in his Doctors to at least READ it. After some urging and another health scare my father finally decided to read the book. He slowly began following Dr. Sears' advice and began to abandon the various medications he'd been prescribed. He's only been following The Doctor's Heart Cure for about a year, but I've already seen a positive change...he's been losing weight and has more energy. He and my mother spent 2 weeks traveling through Europe in October, he just purchased a new classic car to restore and they are planning their first canoe trip in almost 4 years. It's really great to see my father enjoying life again...I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to prevent or reverse the effects of heart disease, etc. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-03-26 00:47:13 EST)

I am a believer in Dr. Sears...I started out by purchasing the PACE book for myself and had such great success with the program. Could not believe how quickly I increased my stamina, reduced my body fat and just plain felt better. So excited that I found an exercise program that I could stick to with minimal efforts and maximum results I shared it with my family who to date has seen the same results. Because I was so impressed with Dr. Sears PACE program I decided to purchase Dr's Heart Cure and 12 Secrets to Virility for my Dad who has heart disease and diabetes. By slowly applying the principles of both books my Dad is now living a healthier and happier life. Dr. Sears gives sound, easy to follow and effective advice that anyone can do. I just purchased his new Sun book and can't wait to see what I can do to improve my health next. Please keep the books coming Dr. Sears, me and my family can't get enough!

The book is the first book I ever read by Dr. Sears and it scared me straight about my health. I soon remembered the saying, not all is as it seems. But yet no one questions their primary care physician when statin drugs are being prescribed as if candy. I love this book, because it reinforced eating right, knowing your body and question everything. Which we all seem to have strayed from. This should be required reading...

Dr. Sears has nailed it. My sister had lost 75 pounds just doing the minimal interval training he promotes. I am looking forward to the same with the inclusion of his diet recommendations and nutritional supplements. I am over 50 years old and have felt like 90, so HERE GOES>>>

Heart disease runs in my husbands family so I bought this book for him. But, I ended up reading it too. It gives a lot of helpful tips on nutrition and exercise to strengthen your heart and prevent heart disease. It is written in a nice voice, so it's never boring. In fact, I learned about his PACE program from this book and purchased that book too.
I highly recommend this one. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-18 00:48:30 EST)

If you're taking cholesterol-lowering drugs, beta blockers or doing "cardio" because you think it's good for your heart, then get your hands on The Doctor's Heart Cure.
In it Dr. Sears exposes the myths and deceptions that cloud a real understanding of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, obesity and heart-healthy exercise. He points out that chronic disease is a result of straying from our "native health" - the condition of balance we had naturally for millions of years - and how conventional wisdom is actually working against you. His explanations are clear and concise and it's easy to see how we've strayed from what our heart really needs. And he gives you a clear plan for dealing with your future, regardless of what condition you're currently in. His solutions fly in the face of the mainstream but it's all backed up with clinical evidence - both his and research from around the world. It's unbelievable that most doctors know nothing about this. His strategies for avoiding heart attack and stroke are astounding. This alone is worth reading for... But his diet advice is remarkable too. Dr. Sears is not - as some have said - a devotee of Atkins. According to Dr. Sears, Atkins had one good idea, but his theory was flawed and incomplete. The Doctor's Heart Cure shows you how to capitalize on what Atkins got right and then build a disease-free heart by getting enough of the essentials you my be missing. And none of it requires eating tofu burgers or celery sticks. After I finished The Doctor's Heart Cure, I ordered copies for everyone in my family. After you read it, you'll see why... This terrific book by Dr. Al Sears ought to be titled: "what your conventional doctor doesn't- and probably never will- know about heart disease and cardiovascular health". Sears, one of the great contrarian physicians around, never tires of telling truth to power. He explains, in simple easy to understand terms, why the irrational fear of fat (including- gasp- saturated fat) is just plain wrong, why the conventional wisdom on cholesterol is far from wise, and what you can really do to protect and strengthen your heart- and the prescription will surprise and delight you.
Sears has had a special place on my list of "good guy" docs for years now- if you're not yet an Al Sears fan, this book will get you onboard. Really is must reading! Dr. Sears is both a serious scientist and an independent thinker. His book is full of fresh and surprising insights about heart disease and offers a unique and proven program for keeping your heart healthy. Exercise is just one part of Dr. Sear's program. But thanks to this book, I now spend far less time in the gym and get much more benefit from my workouts. A lot of people are talking and writing about heart disease prevention, but few of them make as much sense as Dr. Sears.

A disclaimer in The Doctor's Heart Cure warns the reader that the information within is absolutely not a substitute for the medical evaluation and recommendations of a physician. With that caveat firmly in mind, The Doctor's Health Care is a groundbreaking challenge to "conventional wisdom" concerning what is good and bad for the heart. Chapters claim that starches, not fat, are what fuel heart disease; warn against the health risks of a vegetarian lifestyle (vitamin B12 deficiency is a problem that can only be remedied with supplements, and other important nutrients are much less likely to be consumed in a vegetarian lifestyle); and recommend interval-exercise and weight training for improved heart health rather than long-duration cardiovascular exercise. Denouncing widely accepted principles in favor of lifestyle changes especially tailored for optimum heart health, The Doctor's Heart Cure offers a refreshing counter-point view and is especially recommended for those with a heart at risk seeking to gather all the information they can on their own in addition to consulting with a physician in person.

In a precise way, author covers three major Keys to better health:
A) Foods. B) Exercise. C) Nutrients. Drawn from many years of practice as a physician, Dr. Sears explains the very core of each food groups, nutrients and excercise techniques in very simple and logical terms. Time-tested and very effective extensive lists of Foods and Nutrients provided can practically be used not only to achieve a healthier heart but also to prevent Diabetes and many degenerative diseases such as Arthritis, Alzheimer dementia, Osteoporosis. The effective exercise techniques shown in the book is a real time and life saver for anyone interested in effective workout routines. A must read for anyone with hypertension, heart disease or for anyone looking for a heathier, sensible diet and exercise plan or for any one, for that matter, interested in healthy-living lifestyle. The book itself is a very pleasant read, much of which is very reassuring and remarkably lucid writing structure coming from a professor of anatomy, human physiology, and nutrition and a Board Certified Physician in Anti-Aging Medicine. Looking forward to Author's future books. -The TreeClub Review Team. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-01-17 14:24:19 EST)
