The Conception Chronicles : The Uncensored Truth About Sex, Love & Marriage When You're Trying to Get Pregnant

When we first started down the baby-making path, we thought we'd be pregnant in no time. We'd just toss out our birth control pills and before we knew it, we'd be rocking our little one to sleep. Little did we know what was in store for us, or the energy it would take to face all of the crazy, unpredictable and (sometimes) irrational emotions we felt along the way. Neither did our husbands. Sound familiar? If your idea of foreplay is screaming, "I'm ovulating; it's time!!!" to your oblivious husband... If your ovulation schedule is ruling your life and every trip to the drug store includes a bulk purchase of pregnancy sticks... If you're running out of answers to the chronic questioning from the pregnancy paparazzi about your plans for parenthood... Then this is the book for you. Whether it's been three months or three years since you've been trying, the more complicated and overwhelming the process becomes. The Conception Chronicles shares candid humor, hold-nothing-back banter and practical advice on everything that goes along with trying to start a family: from dealing with your fertile friends to the battery of tests you may have to face; from surviving "sex on demand" to navigating the ins and outs of high-tech fertility treatments. This book will guide you through the emotional journey to motherhood, offering compassion and laughter like only your best girlfriends can. And we promise you'll never hear us say, "Relax and you'll be pregnant in no time."

I am so glad I bought this book! Trying to get pregnant has turned into such a serious and hard experience for me and this book has helped me to remember my sense of humor. There were some issues discussed in this book that I realated to so much, and they seem so intense as i experience them, but as I read about the authors stories it was absolutely hilarious! Like obsessing over the ovulation strips! If you're having a hard time conceiving you will definitely relate to this book and enjoy it!

I found the book to be very clinical and dry with the same information that can be found in every other pregnancy book. I thought this would have more personal stories and humor, but aside from the short email clips in the beginning of chapters, it was quite boring.

If this is the first book you've picked up on getting pregnant then it will probably be helpful. If you've already read the basics and are looking for something different and humorous - this is NOT the book for you.

If you are TTC and need a break to have a laugh or simply be reassured that you are not alone in some of your odd and perhaps frantic behavior, this is a good read. Nothing about this book and it's hot pink cover lead to believe I would be garnering sound medical advice from it. This books "chronicles" (another tip that this is not a medical reference book) the lives of three women along their TTC journies. It is helpful because no matter where you may be in your personal journey, there is a chapter for you. It's a quick read but it truly does walk you through the main and most common steps of infertility diagnosis, treatment and options. A+ for making me LOL and for the realism it provided. If you doubt the merits of this book, get it from the library like I did and you won't be "disappointed" that you spent money on it.

I read this book in one day! I loved it! It definetly gives you an overview of what to expect when dealing with infertility. Its helpful and funny at the same time. I hightly recommend it to anyone who is stressed out and tired of reading all the 'how to' books. It will lift your spirits, it did mine!!

I enjoyed this book-it was an easy read and uplifting. I agree with another post stating that in no way this book leads you to believe that it is a medical book to help couples with infertility information. I found it to be a good book to relate to with my own journey to TTC the past year and being unsuccessful--more like a girlfriend's guide. I would recommend this book to anyone who is trying to find someone to relate to and feels alone in their infertility troubles. This book helped me relax a little about my own struggles and did add a some humor to a stressful situation. I would not recommend this book as a "how to", but more of a book to ease your mind that you are not alone in the struggles and there are many people out there going through the same infertility issues.

Received this book as a gift few years ago (my sister didn't realize what the book was actually about). I read it back then and really enjoyed how easy it was to read several chapters in one sitting. Looking forward to starting to TTC soon and am reading it again and enjoying it all over again. It's so thorough and really guides you through the step by step process of TTC if things don't go as planned. Lots of cute humor added in as well. I'm passing it on to my sister next who is currently TTC.

This book is not for people looking for straight fertility facts. The authors have been through the whole process and know exactly what someone with infertility issues is going through and thinking. It is a very interesting read, I couldn't put it down. Most of all it helped to realize that I am not alone.

I brought this book a few months ago, and honestly I have read it many times since. Beginning the infertility journey has not be easy and as the months go by you feel more and more alone. This book did provide information about different tests, medications, and procedures, but they did it in a way that wasn't scary. While this isn't a medical book it tells you things in a way your girlfriend might. It was almost like talking to women who had been there and it made you feel better knowing that you weren't the only one experiencing this emotional rollercoaster. I enjoyed this book and use it as a checklist, because it follows almost exactly what most doctors chose to do. Good luck to all of you and may all of you get your little ones soon!

I was surprised by the few bad reviews this book received. I have been fortunate enough to have been blessed with one beautiful son, and I would like nothing more than to give him a sibling to grow up with. Unfortunately, my husband and I are not having any luck, and are entering the world of fertility treatments this month. Our son was conceived after one try, so being told we're dealing with secondary infertility came as a huge shock. I was depressed, feeling guilty (about feeling depressed around my son & for feeling sad when I already have one child), and experienced every other emotion this book discusses. Everyone keeps telling you "Just relax and you'll get pregnant", when not being able to get pregnant is the source of your stress and anxiety. How can anyone relax under those circumstances? This book helped me cheer up, laugh a little, cry a little, and surprisingly, relax.....somewhat. :) I found the descriptions of certain tests and procedures helpful, as I have to undergo some of them and like to know what to expect - from the patient's perspective. I found the decription of IUI sadly beautiful - how the woman's eyes filled with tears as the moment of her child's possible conception should have been a private moment between her and her husband, not in some doctor's office. I have, in some ways, a unique perspective. I am already a mother. For those of you reading this, possibly facing IUI or other treatments, don't let fear of the nature of your child's conception, birth, or joining of your family (for those adopting) cloud your decision to have a child. That is what I think this book is really about. There are many roads to parenthood. Each parent has to find his or her own road, both to conceive the child, and to raise the child. I know from experience, that whatever it takes to have a child, the results will be more wonderful than you can ever imagine, and well worth it! Good luck to all those TTC!

When my husband and I first started talking about trying, I wanted a book that was going to give me a more light-hearted view of the conception process. I was pleased when I found this book! I have read most of it now, and it's informative, but keeps me laughing. If you are looking for something that will help you analyze your fertility with steps and procedures and all that medical mumbo-jumbo, this is not the book for you! The only downfall is that the last third of the book is all about infertility treatments, and doesn't fit my interests at the moment.

Thank God these women wrote this book. Until i read this I thought I was the only one experiencing some of these things or feelings. At least I know (or am reminded) there are other women out there who feel like freaks too. I would have liked to know how things turned out for them though. I did do a lot of back and forth to review things or skipped portions that didn't apply, etc. but since part of me felt like I was going through it w/ them (or them w/ me), I wish I knew how things turned out for them. But, for those of us whose girlfriends didn't have the same conception problems as us, this book was great!

This book is a really cute book and you learn about your body in a light hearted kind of way. After getting half way through the book I realized I wasn't learning anything new that I didn't already know. I really like Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Its a huge book filled of so much information and a book I can always refer to. If you want to get a book that is easy to read and you know nothing about your body and your cycles then this is the book for you.

Overall, this is a good book. I've been through infertility and books like this one can help. Still, I prefer a more personal tone to the advice and stories about trying and failing to get pregnant, going through infertility testing and treatment and all the rest. My favorite book is Pregnancy Wishes & IVF Dreams: A Story & Lessons About Life, Love & Infertility. If you liked Conception Chronicles, you'll love Pregnancy Wishes.

There are other women out there struggling to have a child and the feeling I was having were common and normal. It gave some simple insight to the different treatments. I recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with infertility (took me a while to say that word). You aren't alone.

This book was given to me when I was in the depths of despair about TTC. My husband and I had been TTC for a year and were just beginning to see a specialist. We had found out that we were both biologically fine and that it was time to start Clomid. The book was given to me by my best friend right after I found out my sister and brother-in-law were pregnant after very, very little effort. The friend who had given it to me had never tried to have a baby and had NO idea what I was going through. I was enraged and insulted when I read the title.

I was thinking, 'What business is this of hers' and, 'How dare she'. After a few hours of staring at it and contemplating burning it, I decided that I would give it a try. After reading the first page I was hooked. I felt like I could have written the book. I had no idea that other women have felt the same way that I have. It was so refreshing to hear it from someone else. I laughed and cried and stayed up all night reading it. It gave me renewed hope in our journey and a new outlook. I would recommend this book to every woman who is having difficult time conceiving. I even had my husband read parts of it, especially about the "Angry Ovulator". Thanks for writing this book. It has made me a stronger woman and a happier one. I'm ready to start my infertility treatment with strength. If other women can go through it so bravely, then so can I. I will regret it forever if I don't try everything I can to have a baby. Or two...

This book is awesome. I am just TTC (trying to conceive) and this book really detailed the ups and downs of each month as you ride the roller coaster of your cycle. I also was reassured that if I have to take the next step, seeing a doctor, not all of the options for getting pregnant with help are as scary as I thought.
I highly recommend this book if you are just starting to TTC. Also, it mentioned the spit test (OVATEL) that not few of my current friends that are moms had heard of. It is an ovualtion tester that uses just your spit and can be reused a million times.I bought mine on-line for $22. Cheap and it seems to work.
Get this book.

I just finished this book and wanted to check out what others thought and was surprised that there were people who hated this book so much. First of all, I have to remind these folks that this book is not supposed to be a medical book about infertility. Nothing about this book, from its cover design to the book description indicates that it is a medical reference or how-to book. Granted, I picked this book up at B&N and flipped through it first before purchasing it, that's why I don't feel duped by the contents in this book. I feel this this book is funny, original, interesting, and has plenty of good advice and descriptions of fertility treatment procedures. It's meant to be subjective and lighthearted. And for those of you going through torturous fertility treatments, it's understandable that this book will seem like it's making fun of the situation, but I don't think that that was what the authors intended to do. Anyway, this book is perfect for those that have an open mind, have been trying to conceive for no more than six months, and have a sense of humor.

I wouldn't say this book was the most comprehensive on fertility treatments, and it was a bit redundant with it's cute email-style writing, but if you are TTC (Trying to Concieve), you need to read it anyways. I really identified with the authors and felt as though I was reading my own story. It just felt so good to laugh, and to know I'm not the only one having these crazy thoughts and emotions while despirately wanting to get pregnant.

This book helped me put things into perspective again with my husband (my secrets out...I've been manipulating him for his sperm) and my non-fertility challenged friends. Perhaps it has even saved a relationship with a friend who's conceived twice during my own efforts.

It was fun to read and useful in its own unique way.

If you are trying to cope with the frustration of not being able to conceive, then this is a great book for you. It provides some much needed levity to a situation that can really be stressful, painful and disappointing. It is not a hands-on medical book, like TCOYF is (and others). Its more about coping with the REAL emotions involved with not being able to conceive and dealing with a world around you that makes it look so incredibly easy. I reccomend it to any woman who has been trying to conceive for more than 6 months. Its at that 6 month point that you really need to re-gain your sense of humor!

My husband and I decided to try and get pregnant, when it didn't happen in the very first month after being off of my birth control pills, I was shocked! This book has a chapter about how, "After taking birth control for all those years, you believe you'll get pregnant right away." I laughed out loud, and was relieved others shared my experiences. I only hope I won't need the later chapters. (IVF, infertility treatments, etc.) This book is more about helping to keep the "getting pregnant" emotional rollercoaster in perspective, rather than a lot of scientific facts. (It does provide some of those, however.)

This book arrived in the mail today and I am over half way through it. Although I'm in the early stages of trying to get pregnant, I have found this book to be very informative about emotions to come. It's a somewhat hysterical view on the "trying" factor of getting pregnant. I found it be very light in reading, yet very in-tuned to my emotions. I highly recommend if you are trying to have a baby...it will take the edge off.

After reading this book, I realized that I have not gone crazy on my failed road to conception. The authors get it right on every emotion one feels as they try unsuccessfully month after month. While Taking Charge of your Fertility is the best in terms of determining ovulation and how to chart, Conception Chronicles is a great read to help you see that you are not alone and that your crazy emotions are very normal. It also includes details on what type of tests to expect if you go to a fertility specialist. Highly Recommend if you have been trying with no success and are getting very frustrated. This will give you some laughs as they describe emotions you have had yourself.

This book was meant not as a medical guide for infertility, but as a companion to the process. It's very witty and funny, and I no longer feel alone in my emotions and experiences. So many descriptions in the book fit me perfectly, and I keep telling my husband as I'm reading "Look, I'm not crazy! I'm not the only one!"
For those who give this book poor remarks because it's not factual enough, perhaps you should have read the back cover or the description of the book--it was plain to me what I was buying. And in response to another reader's comments, of course this book isn't for EVERYONE going through infertility; it's just for people who could use a laugh and a little encouragement along the way.

After all the stress that infertility has brought on, it was good to get a break from it and read this book! I wasn't finding anything funny about infertility. But, I had to laugh at the Angry Ovulator (it was the perfect description of me) Also, I think I needed to step back and put it all in perspective. I was wound so tightly that I couldn't see that I was viewing pregnant friends as foes and obsessing over every detail. It helped to hear that other women are like me. I still am anxious and obssesive over having a baby. But, now when I turn into the Angry Ovulator I can look at myself and laugh - a little bit. I don't think anyone will get the medical info they need from this book. But, it is a story of friendship and understanding in the midst of infertility madness.
