I have read a few books on homeopathy and then when I got into it myself I bought a few of my own books. This one is by far the best book. I've worn it in with in a few weeks refering to it and reading just the basics on prescribing. I like the knowledge and the explantions she gives in the book and the work sheet on how to make the right choice on the remedy.
Definitly worth every penny (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-14 04:27:47 EST)

I have been seeing a professional homeopath, but he's not always available. This book allows me to prescribe for minor illness that my kids are experiencing at onset, sometimes nipping it in the bud. It has also given me insight into the homeopathic process and has greatly enhanced my communication with my homeopath. It is organised logically and written in plain english. A great starting point for those interested in homeopathy. There is also a matching remedy kit available from Miranda Castro which would be handy.

I've raised two healthy children to adulthood using this book, which I found in my local Whole Foods in the early 90's. Because my husband had a wonderful homeopathic MD in France, I've looked in vain for a solid homeopathic practitioner in my area, only to find that Castro's book makes me more knowledgeable than all those I've tried. The indexing system, as well as the complete description of each remedy and all symptoms associated with it, creates a valuable guide to dealing with acute conditions of all sorts. I'd love to see a new edition reflecting recent research and including ALL the Boiron individual remedies; there are a few available in the health food stores that are not covered in this one.

I first read "The Impossible Cure" to clue me in about what homeopathy was all about. Then I wanted a book that was easy to understand that would help me figure out how to put it into practice so I could find remedies that would work for my babies, my husband, and my parents. This book has done just that. I can now easily find the right remedy for my toddler's cold, mom's headache, and my own cough. A Wonderful guide to everyday ailments!

I am a classical Hahnemannian Homeopath and teach introductory classes in homeopathy, online by email. I use Miranda's fine book for my classes. It is organized well and helps the beginner to learn homeopathy in an efficient, easy-to-understand way. Her book also includes a repertory which is what is necessary to determine which remedy to use (a repertory is like an index of symptoms). Her repertory is very good for minor acutes and first aid, which is all a beginner should be doing anyway. I even take her book along with me when I'm traveling & use her repertory for quick reference to determine remedies for minor acutes and first aid. Thanks Miranda. Sheri Nakken Hahnemannian Homeopath

This is a great book to get if you want more in depth information than in other books out there. It is written in a very organized manner. This is the one to have at hand!!! Very very helpful book, would reccommend that everybody interested in homeopathy should have this one on their shelf.

I've been using Homeopathy for my family for 15 years and this is the book I use the most.
It was recommended by two of my homeopathic physicians. The Repertory could be expanded a little more... (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-14 01:30:15 EST)

This is a VERY poorly written book ... poor grammar ... extremely disorganized ... AND NOT EVEN AN INDEX!!!
The rating system here is no longer useful. Avoid this book and look for something worth the money! (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-14 01:32:57 EST)

This is a nice book for anyone trying to figure out how to use the most popular health-food-store homeopathic remedies. Its classical approach recommends only one remedy at a time (as opposed to the readily available "combo" remedies), and as such is a good, simple starting point.

as an avid student and patient of homeopathy [18 years and counting] this is still my favorite lay manual of homeopathy. ms. castro provides clear physical, mental and emotional descriptions corresponding with each remedy in a tone and language which is both in-depth and intellegent. you will benefit from her insight into the origin of each remedy as well as the remedy's symptoms/"picture." my well-loved copy is literally falling apart.

With three kids I need a book I can understand and find the information I am looking for as quick as possible. This book has a great index and it makes looking up remedies we need very easy. I don't have to read descriptions of 10 different ones to find what is needed.
Her writing style is easy to read and she really gives a lot of information here that I haven't seen elsewhere. Part One tells the history of homeopathy, guidelines for deciding what you should be able to treat yourself and teaches how to take a case history and how to prescribe. This includes dosages, information on how often to dose, how to assess the progress and effectiveness of the remedy and explains how there are antidotes to homeopathy and tells about them. Part Two goes through a series of remedies and information on each. She tells where each comes from and lists specific information you need to decide if it is right for you. First though, she talks about the different forms each remedy can come in be it liquid, ointment or the little tablets we see in the health food stores. In Part Three she really goes over when we can self treat and when we should see a licensed homeopath. There is a case-taking questionaire and symptom checklist. There are even sample cases where you can put to test and see what you learned. I really enjoyed this book and have already purchased a second copy to loan out... I found this book to be completely accessible and user-friendly. The author 'speaks' in terms and in a language that encourages you to read on. I recommend it.

NO STARS! NO STARS! NO STARS! NO STARS!
One of the greatest health-care hoaxes perpetrated on a desperate public. Not a criticism of the desperate and needy, but the corporations who are bilking them for billions. Forget multinational pharmaceutical conglomerates, what about companies charging you for WATER? Forget Dasani, Evian and Propel, this is water!!! If water really had memory, how would it forget it was once dinosaur piss? (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-24 16:36:51 EST)

I am new to homeopathy and I have found this book to be so simple and easy to understand. It has helped me to understand why the Hyland's Teething Tablets aren't working for my son.
He needs a more defined and "classical" approach. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-12-05 01:50:36 EST)

This is my 2nd Miranda Castro book (1st being Homeopathy for Mother and Child) she continues her common sense, practical approach in this book. Homeopathy has worked amazingly well in our family for everything so far - and each time I have referred to Ms. Castro's books; particularly good for my little boy from new-born to now 3ý. For those looking for safe, non-drug alternatives this will be welcome help and support.

an excellent introduction to and explination of homeopathy. This is a wonderful tool for those wishing to learn more anout treating themselves with homeopathic remadies. The only consern I have is that a reader my feel overly confident and not feel the need to discuss illness with a health professional.
