Having read the book and personally experienced the program at Lifestyle Center of America, I am now in control of Diabetes, it no longer controls me. By following the program of diet and exercise and behavior modification I now have reduced the number of medications I take, have more energy and lots of hope for a longer and healthier life. My doctor is amazed with my results.

Maybe it's just me, and it probably is, but I seem to keep searching for a cookbook, diet book, nutrition book that is practical and basic. Most of the food presented I either haven't heard of or it's not readily available. I can tell you from here on out that I will not be investing in any more books of this nature. I've been so discouraged. I live on a limited income, wish to eat healthy, wish to reverse if not just improve my diabetes, but I guess it's a project that requires much more time and money than I have available.

My mother has been a brittle diabetic ever since gallbladder disease caused her a chronic pancreatitis. We tried this plan for about 3 months, and her A1C increased by over 3 points to 9.1. Fasting blood sugars also went up significantly.
Going to the Atkins diet brought her A1C back to 5.7 and her average fasting sugars to the mid-90s. There just wasn't enough protein or fat in this plan according to her endocrinologist. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-16 08:08:04 EST)

I FOUND THE BOOK VERY WELL WRITTEN TOUCHED ON EVERY THING THAT MIGHT GET THAT PERSON OFF THE FENCE AND START DOING THE RIGHT THING TO HELP THEM SELVES. I PURCHASED ABOUT EIGHT COPIES FOR TWO OF MY BROTHERS AND FRIENDS WHO WOULD NOT TREAT THERE CONDITION WITH GOOD DIET AND EXERCISE.

This book is false advertising. It is very simple. It is dealing with Diabetes by becoming a vegetarian. They hide this until the middle of the book.

My husband has uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes. I believe this book will help him to bring it under control. There are menus and recipes for a diabetes controlled life style. Also exercises. I had heard a Doctor discuss the principles of this book and then I was able to purchase it through Amazon. It is a tremendous book.

The 30 Day Diabetes Miracle continues to reinforce the value of plant-based nutrition to combat a broad range of western illness. Diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis, autoimmune conditions, and many of our common cancers, are essentially the result of an eating disorder.
Lately it seems like the four food groups have become the two food groups. Plant-based foods, and animal-based foods. The cover of Michael Pollan's new book, "In Defense Of Food", states, "EAT FOOD, NOT TOO MUCH, MOSTLY PLANTS". In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health Eat to Live: The Revolutionary Formula for Fast and Sustained Weight Loss Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure Eat to Beat Prostate Cancer Cookbook (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-06-29 21:15:38 EST)

I am a Board Certified Internist, specializing in weight management. I have treated thousands of patients for overweight problems, over the past 30 years, many of them diabetics. I have visited the Lifestyle Center of America several times to personally evaluate their program. I spoke at length with not only their staff but with many patients actually in the program. I can honestly say it is THE BEST overall program for treating and preventing Type 2 Diabetes that I have seen. I would encourage all Type 2 Diabetic patients who are having any problems managing their diabetes to give the progam a trial. I believe you will see significant improvement in diabetic control even BEFORE "30 days!"

I started the diet on 4/5/08 after spending a week reading the book fully. In December of last year I was taking 110 units of insulin a day. While my doctor was happy with my control (A1c 6.4) and management of the disease, I was not. I felt too heavy and I felt I was getting progressively weaker. My heart was not doing well and I had frequent and painful angina. I was taking a lot of heart medicine (Norvasc, Benicar & hydrochlorothiazide). I have severe neuropathy in both feet, including a wound in my left foot that will not heal and a diabetic foot disease called "Charcots Arthropathy". I suffered a "focal neuropathy" that paralyzed my right side for 3 months and has left my right leg weak. My walking is very restricted. Diabetes has also taken my left eye. I suffered several hemorrhages, due to retinopathy, and now I am blind in my left eye. I only bring these symptoms up to show that my diabetes was advanced and acute. I was forced to retire and go on disability at age 49. I found the recipes easy to prepare and delicious. The closer you follow the diet the better your results will be. Remember, this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. It only works if you stick with it for the long term. If you return to the same diet that brought about your diabetes in the first place the diabetes will come back. A word of caution on this point, your blood sugar level may come down very fast. I took my regular dose of insulin on day 1 and by 10:00 pm I was at 57 and beginning to feel the effects of low blood sugar. Test your blood often and have your doctor reduce your insulin dose before you start. I stopped taking insulin altogether on day 15. I have not taken an injection of insulin in the past 25 days. My blood sugar level has stayed in the normal range. My doctor was amazed at the results. He tells me that he is telling all of the other doctors that one of his patients was able to cure his acute type 2 diabetes. He took down the information about the book and he says he is going to buy and read it and recommend it to his other diabetic patients. I have lost a total of 24 pounds in the last 40 days. My blood sugar is normal without insulin and I have never felt healthier. Good luck and best wishes. John Butler (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-21 06:49:35 EST)

"The 30-Day Diabetes Miracle" is a very good book that leads quickly to the diagnosis, prevention and resolution of Diabetes (specifically type II). It provides a comprehensive updated approach to the increasing problem.
I also recommend that this book be read in conjuction with: Stephen E. Langer and James F. Scheer, "Solved: The Riddle of Illness" How managing your Thyroid can help one fight and control diabetes, arthritis, and numerous other diseases. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-21 00:23:33 EST)

This a fantastic book. It is well written, detailed for professionals, yet easy to understand for the layman as well. If more diabetics would follow this plan, there would be an amazing decrease in diabetes and diabetes complications. Get the word out! Advertise this book!!

I have read and used the menus/recipes in the book for a couple of weeks. Initially, I was hesitant as the diet is completely vegan, but was surprised to discover that the recipes are very tasty and mostly easy to make.
The authors present a number of ideas new to me, such as eliminating snacks in favor of hearty meals, working toward the goal of a very light dinner (eating when you are active) and substantial breakfasts and lunches. Most of the ingredients in the recipes are relatively easy to come by for most, but some people might have to resort to online ordering if they live away from a fully stocked healthy food store. The diet is based on whole grains, whole foods and lots of complementary proteins. Fat and salt are kept low. I feel I am getting healthier and gradually the diet is having a positive effect on my bood sugar levels. I recommend the book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-26 00:25:50 EST)

There is a lot of great information in this book, backed up by the author's years of clinical experience. I am wondering if I can substitute some kind of soluble fiber supplement for the beans. Anybody tried this?

You should know that this diet involves eating beans three times a day. This is evidently not a problem for most since I didn't notice anyone else mentioning this. There is no way I can eat beans even once a day every day, and I couldn't possibly eat them for breakfast. So I was pretty disappointed about that aspect of the diet but it obviously has worked well for others. Even if you hate beans like me, there is a lot of great information in this book, backed up by the author's years of clinical experience. I am wondering if I can substitute some kind of soluble fiber supplement for the beans. Anybody tried this?

I received this book about 30 days ago. I totally changed my outlook on my type 2 diabetes. I went to the doctor and according to my blood work, I was averaging around 300 for my daily numbers. After following the advice in the book, I now have my numbers back under control and have not been over about 120 since changing my lifestyle. Now I know that I am in control of my situation and will be around to see my kids grow up. I beleive this book has literally saved my life. I've already put in a pre-order for the cookbook.

What I learned from this book is that Sugar will kill you and stop eating it. I have diabetes in my family and I have been eating sugar since I was a kid. I eat sugar laden treats to comfort me during stressful periods, which is all day long. When I read this book I realized that I had better stop my addiction to sugar or else I will end up with diabetes. There are a few changes to make in one's day and it requires fruits and vegetables. Amazingly the book does not promote meat eating as a source of protein. I wish there were more recipes in this book and a lot less hard to find ingredients. I want to rely on ingredients that I can easily find at Safeway or Bel Air stores. If I can't find them easily, I won't bother looking for or using it. Give me a few more "sweet" options than "floral honey." There are a few times of the month where I just have to have it. Also, give me an option for stressful times at work where I want something to chomp or crunch and will give me a little "caffeine-like high" to get through times where I am tired. Also, spare me the lecture on fitness and mental vitality; you are preaching to the choir. I am sure most of your patients already know all the exercises and it is important to be positive. I want solutions to problems and how people attained them. For example, when you have children how does one carve out time to do their exercises consistently? How do you fight a sugar addiction? What if you want to sweeten your oats with something other than strawberries (not in season) and pecans? What do you snack on?

I borrowed this book from the library. I normally do not purchase books without first reading them. This is not one of those books that will make it onto my bookshelf. It is not the miracle it claims to be.
When undertaking a lifestyle change to control blood sugar the key thing to remember is that "Your Mileage May Vary." Buying a good meter and taking your blood sugar often will give you a far better feel for what works for you than the advice of any book. As much as I love a serving of steel cut oats (2 carb units) with a serving of blueberries (1 carb unit) for breakfast, this kind of breakfast will send my blood sugar unacceptably high for the vast majority of the day unless I'm willing to put in a fair amount of time into some heavy cardio and resistance work. Instead, I eat eggbeaters scrambled with spinach and mushrooms with Canadian bacon on the side and exercise moderately. That is what works for me. Grain and legume based carbs, regardless of how unrefined (I have bought and ground my own wheat for years) they happen to be, will cause *my* blood sugar to go unacceptably high and stay there for too long if consumption is not followed by a significant level of activity. I really have to watch the fruit and starchy vegetables as well. I stick to berries and low carb veggies, but even then I'll see a jump unless I chase with Metformin or activity. If this plan were to work for me, it would be imperative that I follow it exactly. People talk about the amazing weight loss after spending time at the LCA as if it's a miracle. Anyone is going to lose in a highly controlled environment like they offer. You will continue to lose if you continue to control your environment to that level. There's no "miracle" about it. Of course, everyone needs to eat better; I'm just not convinced that vegan is the only path, much less the best path to metabolic control of blood sugar for a diabetic. How valuable is hope? How much would you pay to buy it? This book and the LCA miracle program it describes bought hope back into my life. The book details exactly the program I was introduced to late last year. I entered the program in Oklahoma completely demoralized with the inability to control my type 2 diabetes. For 15 years I had battled this disease but it was beating me and all the doctors, drugs and insulin that I was using to fight it. My future was destined to be like my parents and my brother an early death due to diabetes related heart disease.
Not anymore! I have lost weight, dropped almost all medications and at 51 years old, I am in the best physical shape ever. The LCA program is the reason for my life changing experience and I recomend this book to anyone else who needs a little hope back in thier lives. You can beat this disease and you too will find this program is the answer. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-28 01:35:26 EST)

I have PCOS and insulin resistance. In the book it tells you how insulin resistance is the culprit behind diabetes and PCOS. I was literally teetering on the edge of diabetes and I didn't know what to do. I am so glad I found this book. The 30 day Diabetes Miracle gives you very sound advice on what to do to reverse diabetes and possibly other health conditions you may have. If you have the heart to truly want to be healthy then this is the book for you. By following a low fat, plant based diet combined with exercise you can acheive your ultimate health goals.
A few years ago if I would have known this book was telling me to become a vegan then I would have never bought it. But now that my health is in crisis, I am willing to do whatever it takes to be healthy. After reading the book and really understanding what is going on inside my body I see why I'm in this condition. I highly recommend this book. If you are afraid of the plant based diet, I would just try it for a week, you never know you may really enjoy it. The recipes in the book are wonderful! I do not feel deprived in the least bit. In fact I am not hungry like I used to be at all. I've only been practicing this lifestyle for 2 weeks and I have already lost 7 lbs. and I have more energy. I feel refreshed and light! I never would have thought I would become a vegan in my wildest dreams but I have come to love it and I look forward to a long, healthy, vibrant life for myself and my family! This book is truly a miracle! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-28 01:35:26 EST)

The authors have presented a very human, hopeful and encouraging approach to managing and eliminating diabetes symptoms and complications.
Explanations about diabetes are founded in historical perspective, in a thoroughly balanced presentation of current medical information, in a concise format. The 30 Day Diabetes Miracle is permeated with motivation, encouraging optimism, and dotted with humor. Sample recipes and suggested physical activities provide an easy start toward better health for diabetics. The book provides a broad understanding of the mechanisms contributing to diabetes. Technical explanations are presented in a manner easily understood. This book is inspirational! Following the dietary suggestions in this book, my "life miracle" was to reduce my weight by twenty two pounds, walking three miles each day, looking forward to exercising, and by reducing my insulin use from thirty units per day to zero. I have stopped using antacids and I wake up each day well rested with energy to face a great day. To attend a lecture by the authors is incredibly enlightening. But at the very least, read this book! This book is just good news. As a Doctor of Bio Medical Ethics, it is sound in its empirical and anecdotal evidence. I have seen these three authors with varied backgrounds but common purpose speak. They are terrific in person as well and currently on a national tour. The book is clear- if we change the way we look at our lives and treat our bodies- we change the quality- nothing new there- but what is fresh is its perspective on lifestyle medicine- too commonly ignored by staunchly allopathic physicians. It is responsible because you can follow the lifestyle suggestions while working with your own MD. What could be better than control over your own life- as opposed to handing it over to people who follow the mainstream-downstream, which is clearly not working- and continuing to monetarily support a pharmaceutical industry which keeps us in "treatment mode" as opposed to "cure focus." The suggestions are easy to follow and take individual needs into consideration. The recipes are easy- great for people who have busy lives - yet want quality lives. If you can- catch these guys on tour. If you really want to invest in your future- read the book and take the time to do the program. Better yet- go do the program in Oklahoma or Arizona with them- and integrate what you experience into your everyday- wonderful life.

The 30-Day Diabetes Miracle, is AMAZING - Although I do not have diabetes, I bought it because I have a cousin who was first diagnosed with Diabetes a few years ago and was a mess - his blood sugar was WAY out of wack, and the medications were having a very bad effect on him. At that time, we were truly worried about his survival. He spent 30 days in AZ attending this program, and now he is good health personified - fit, happy, active, positive, and anything but the victim of a disease. He is in control of his body and his life. Seeing his transformation was enough to make me read this book - not the type of book I'm usually interested in. I'm glad I did. The book is well written, interesting, and easy to understand. It's not just another fad diet, but rather a different way to think about food, ingredients, and lifestyle, and it's been very inspiring for me. I have taken its message to heart (no pun intended). It's really very enlightening - all about WHY eating certain foods and living a certain way is healthy for you, and how your body reacts to what is good and what is not good for you - it's not merely a list of good/bad foods. Maybe this "teacher" appeared when this "student" was ready, but reading this book helped tweak my already healthy diet, and made me more conscious about what I am doing to myself with the choices I make. A clear, informative and useful book - a great resource.

Ian Newman's 30 DAY DIABETES MIRACLE describes a system for managing diabetes that is indeed a miracle. A dear friend and colleague had an unmanageable and newly diagnosed type I disease. No doctor was able to regularize his high blood sugar with any dosage of insulin, any nutrition or exercize program. Then he tried the program documented in this book and his diabetes was brought under control. It was nothing short of a miracle to see him much thinner, energetic, and cheerful. Although I am not a diabetic, I am now reading this book, and planning to use the information it so clearly presents to prevent my prediabetic condition from worsening. I recommend the book to anyone who wishes to improve their health. Sue Commanday

I really appreciated the easy to read descriptions of what causes type 2 diabetes and the underlying culprite of insulin resistance. The "Paul Revere" hormone description (I believe in chapter 2)was a real eye opener. If you are ready to take control, this book will provide you the practical tools you need.

After reading this book I feel like I have found my way out of the confusing medical maze, that is the US Medical system. The cure to my health problems lies in my own hands. I have been following this program for two weeks and am already feeling better. I would recommend this book to all people whether you have diabetes or not, we can prevent our children from becoming another statistic. As a mother of two children and the caretaker for my parents, I would highly recommend this book.

The 30-Day Diabetes Miracle: Lifestyle Center of America's Complete Program to Stop Diabetes, Restore Health, and Build Natural Vitality I am a Diabetic and attended this clinic. This book can't replace the clinic, but it is an excellent summary of their philosophy and the process they suggest. Unlike most diabetic information out there, this is true hands-on, useful and practical help. I would highly suggest this for both the newly diagnosed and long battling diabetic.

Slay your Dragons while they're babies; this is a saying that one of my friends likes to use and I think it's appropriate because too many of us don't. I use "we" because I'm one of the guilty ones who ignored the baby dragon. I knew it was there and always planned to do something about it, but it was always later, for me it was always "next Monday." As you can imagine there was always a "next Monday." Needless to say, I had some real bad nutritional and fitness habits and was completely missing the tools I needed to turn myself around.
Since then, I've seen what a lifestyle change really means and more importantly what it can do for blood sugar, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc... This book has a program that actually has the answers to turning your diabetes and your life around. If you want to need LESS medication then this book has the road map you need. If your health is a top priority for you then this book will give you the tools, skills, and knowledge needed to change. You'll change your thought process and how you approach not only you blood sugars but your over all health. And that's what will drive the changes to your habits and in the choices you make day in and day out. By making the right "Lifestyle" choices you won't simply change your body; you'll change your Life! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-29 00:26:40 EST)

About a month after graduating college, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). My doctor simply told me to lose 20 lbs or else I'd have to go on insulin. At 23 years old, with no history of diabetes in the family, the word insluin soundeded alarm bells in my head: it was the only defense against a scary monster - diabetes. In addition to that, learing that PCOS usually has a negative effect on fertility really frightened me. Growing up I'd always envisioned gettiner married and having a family of my own, and here I was, 23 years old and that dream was about to be shattered. I knew I couldn't let that happen, so I did what most girls my age do and started the fad diet in my neighborhood (the SlimFast diet). I lost about 10 lbs by the next visit and the doctor told me I was doing great and I'd be fine, however she did put me on birth control to regulate my hormones (hormone imbalance was one of the problems causing the PCOS as the gynocologist explained). In September of that year I had to come off the birth control because of the side effects it was causing. I went through the program at the Lifestyle Center of America in March of 2004, and my life changed completely. During one of the lectures I learned about PCOS and how it's a sign of Metabolic Syndrome for women. I had no idea. Even though the doctor told me my insulin was out of whack, she didn't tell me that PCOS was a sympoton of pre-diabetes. If she would have taken the time to explain that to me and what changes I needed to make in my life, I think the way I approached my weightloss would have been more beneficial; however, she only had about 10 minutes to meet with me. Following the principles at the Lifestyle Center of America: starting a plant based diet and exercising has revolutionized my life. I learned how to better handle my emotions and to make the best decisions when it came to choosing my foods. During my next visit with the doctor, she said that there were no signs that I had ever had PCOS. In addition to the blood work she also did ultrasounds which also came back negative. The feeling of hope and happiness was overwhelming. I am so excited to see the book on the shelves. Many people may not have the chance to attend LCA's program but they have the chance to reap the same benefits by reading about the program and trying it at home. Women need to know that there is something you can do about PCOS - you don't have to go on brith control and deal with the headaches, mood-swings, and lethargy that are associated with it. Those with pre-diabetes MUST read this book. You don't need to go on insulin, you don't need to get on expensive diabetes medications. You can stop the progression of this life-stealing monster by changing your habits. The freedom that comes once you realize that you're not constrained by a "disorder" is so refreshing and revitalizing. Read the book, take the knowledge in, but most importantly apply the knowledge. If you're looking for a quick fix to diabetes - a potion, pill, drug, etc - this book is not for you. However, if you're willing to part with habits that are robbing you of a full and vibrant live, this book's a gem. Happy reading!

I have many friends and family who have diabetes, pre-diabetes, and obesity. My desire is that they can live a healthier happier fulfilling life. I have seen miracles happen with many of the diabetics who have gone to the Lifestyle Center of America, their sugar levels are good, their cholesterol dropped, weight lost, they have more energy, enthusiasm, and many of them for the first time in a long time have "Hope". This book can provide "Hope" to many who are struggling with this horrible disease. The Standard American Diet (SAD) is what it stands for "Sad" and in society today people are on the go so fast and furious that they do not take time to eat healthy and exercise, therefore, they get the fast food and eat SAD. The authors of this book are knowledgeable and provide alot of insight to what has caused the disease, what are the complications related to diabetes, and how we can change our lifestyles, thus seeing a miracle happening before our eyes. I believe in Miracles, I believe in this book, I believe in this program, and I believe we will see more wonderful results and miracles from others who take action and control of their lives and their health that is mentioned in the book. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has diabetes, prediabetes, know someone who has diabetes, and for those who want to take control of their health and their lives. HOPE is what this book can bring to the readers who are currently suffering.

This amazing book puts the pieces - menu planning, fitness, and attitude adjusment - together in a healthful, common sense, easy-to-understand and follow plan. Whatever you call it - a treatment, cure, or miracle, the plan set forth in this book shows diabetics how to manage their health and take back their lives. The basic question is this: will you choose to take control of your diabetes (with the advice offered in this book) or will you continue to let diabetes control you and limit your life choices? Sounds to me like a - dare I say it? - no-brainer. Why doesn't your doctor advocate 'The 30-Day Diabetes Miracle'? Because most of the medical profession and all of the health insurance industry are bogged down in the 'fix it with a pill or shot' mentality. The lifestyle alternatives offered in this book will allow you, in a matter of weeks, to stop diabetes in its tracks, minimize or eliminate its symptoms and complications, and reduce and/or end your dependence on medication. If you've ever prayed for a miracle, here it is!

The 30-Day Diabetes Miracle: Lifestyle Center of America's Complete Program to Stop Diabetes, Restore Health, and Build Natural Vitality
I have been through all the top diabetes programs in the country, counting carbs, limiting white flour and sugar, and I never got control of my Type 2 diabetes. I went through the program several months ago and it was incredible. At the time, I had lost 14 pounds in 18 days; you ask can you do this at home? YES - I have now lost 28 pounds, through many family gatherings, work events and stressful times, when I deviate from the lifestyle I do not feel as good. My asthma was gone in 3 days, my goal of climbing a flight of stairs was achieved and now I exercise at least 6 days a week, I miss it if I don't. My mood has remained positive; I have more energy and have noticed positive changes in many areas of my life. I observed incredible improvements in other participants in the program. Walking without pain, less medications for their diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol. This way of 'medicine' is how we should be treated. Our physicians don't have the time to prevent illness, the health care system doesn't allow for it. Try this program you will be thrilled that you did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My dad has diabetes and has struggled with it for years. It was awful to watch his health deteriorate in front of my eyes. I wholeheartedly believe that this program saved my dad's life. He went through the program in Oklahoma and came out a changed man. What my dad learned in OK has been invaluable. He's followed the program and lost fifty pounds. His cholesterol has dropped 500 (yes FIVE HUNDRED) points. He went off almost all of his diabetes medication. He had more energy than I'd seen him have in years. He was thinking clearer, making more money (he claims) and was just happier in general.
Having struggled with weight issues since childhood (and the constant fear that I would be the next to be cursed with diabetes) I finally went though the LCA program myself at 25. Since then, I have dropped thirty lbs, my triglyceride level dropped 100 points. I have energy like I didn't know existed- friends noted how I never complained of being tired anymore. I had debilitating headaches prior to my visit- gone. My skin is clearer and tighter. I feel SO much better in general. The results in the three weeks I was there were literally amazing. I like to work out now because they taught me how to exercise without hurting my body. They taught me to enjoy foods I wouldn't have otherwise considered. I am not going to be diabetic only because I followed this program. I honestly owe my dad's life and my healthy future to this program. If you're overweight, diabetic, pre-diabetic or if you just don't feel healthy, I strongly recommend this book and its ideas. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-11 00:27:06 EST)

So I've been following the lifestyle recommended by these authors for about 7 years. My dad was a diabetic and I have been pre-diabetic (if there is such a thing...). Having two small boys at the time, my wife and I decided to move to this type of healthy lifestyle so that they could have the best shot at health as they grow up. What their choices will be after they are grown is up to them. Like Khalil Gibran says, "You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. ... For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable."
While we changed our lifestyle primarily for the sake of our boys, the benefits that we experienced were amazing. I lost 30 pounds. My wife didn't need to lose any, but her severe monthly cramps simply stopped. Both of our boys (2 and 4 at the time) no longer had chronic ear infections. Almost all of my allergies went away. My blood pressure dropped. My sugars dropped to normal levels. Over time, my cholesterol dropped to 147(!) We were amazed! I can certainly understand why the book has the word "miracle" in it. The physiological changes in the body seem miraculous when a healthy lifestyle is adopted. What is really amazing to me is that the medical industry is still relying almost exclusively on medications to treat the symptoms of diabetes instead of focusing on the cause of diabetes like these authors do- our lifestyle choices and habits. By the way, one of the things I appreciated in this book was the large number of scientific citations throughout the book. The information presented is credible. I also liked the fact that this book and program comes from a non-profit organization and is not written by some docs looking to make a quick buck. This is clearly not your typical "diet" book, but advocates and lays out a step-by-step plan to take responsibility for our health back and start making better health choices. My family has honestly enjoyed our health adventure. It's now fun to go to restaurants and pick out foods from across the menu that are healthy. However, we learned that changing habits is hard. But in our experience, it is so worth it. I really wish that we had had a book like this when we first changed to healthier lifestyle choices. It would have made things so much easier to have had a documented program like this to get us started on the right track. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-11 00:27:06 EST)

They actually use the word "cure" in this book: or at least ask the question, "Could you call this a cure?" to which they answer, "You decide." The theory goes, "If you follow the plan, and your doctor can no longer find the clinical signs of diabetes, couldn't you call that a cure?" That's a really good question. The thing I like most here is that it's not the usual "eat right and exercise stuff." Matter of fact, they don't even USE the word "exercise" in the entire book (except in a few quotes). It's a program that's pretty much opposite the usual prescription of the ADA and the AMA, and I like that a lot. It's pretty countercultural, too: they call the "Standard American Diet" "SAD," which is true. It's also good that they ask the question about "who's minding the store?" In my city, NY, 1 in 8 people already have diabetes, and the CDC says that among children born in 2000, 1 in 3 will get diabetes in their lifetime. Nuts. So ... as Dr. Phil would say, "How's that workin' for ya'?" In other words, we need a new way to deal with this disease before it kills all of us, not to mention our economy and the health care system.

I hope everyone who's struggling with diabetes or a weight problem will buy this book. I went through the program at LCA in Oklahoma, and although I don't have diabetes, my health and lifestyle has changed for the better in so many ways. I watched as people in wheelchairs literally walked out the door at the end of the program, many having stopped or lowered medications. I lost 45 pounds, have so much more energy, and can look forward to a longer, more enjoyable life because I've learned how to take care of myself, body, mind and spirit. If you're feeling hopeless, this is the book for you! Go for it! You can take control! :)
