As s first year law student you got to have these CDs. Finz is funny and to the point. I wish I had had these when I was in Business Law in undergraduate school.

This is a great series. Overall, I think it really gets you ready to rock a torts exam. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't do most of the reading for my torts course and I believe this CD set saved me. No, it's not all that detailed at times, but it gets you into the torts mood and gives you a good understanding of the basic concepts, which you can then regurgitate on an exam with ease. The hypos are memorable too. I have a hard time reading for long periods of time, so CD series are generally a good way to mix it up and you can listen on your ipod on the subway and what not when you might not be able to read. Be careful with some of the professor's specific case examples, though -- sometimes he's a little off. For example, his description of the Tarasoff facts are not perfect. So don't go citing a case based on what he said. Also, for $70+ you'd think they could do more than one take. I hate when I can hear people swallowing their spit! There are a few gross moments like that when you really wish they'd hired a quality sound editor or done multiple takes. Generally, though, this product was very helpful to me.

This tape explained tort law in everyday language that makes learning law not just rewarding, but fun. The author was able to break down the concept behind the law, mold it into your life experiences, and apply it towards what you are learning. Before this tape, I feared tort law, it has soooo many rules to remember, and not to cohere in any way. Now I love tort law, thanks to this tape.

I was so excited to listen to Professor Finz especially after all the great reviews from Amazon and my fellow law students. I discovered that his lectures were great, but because he tried to cover so many great torts topics in only 8 CD's, he lacked some substance that would have been more useful. I will admit that I bought this CD after already having one term of torts, and I wanted to listen to more obscure topics. I suppose I am comparing him to Professor Freer of Gilbert's Civ Pro, and how organized and down to earth he was. Still Finz is a great listen, and he did teach me several useful nuggets of wisdom, but I guess I was looking for the whole enchilada.

I never conceived law lecture could be fun! His antics cool down by the last couple of CD's, but still fun. Very good sound quality.
Especially noteworthy are the routines on "Goat Named Tommy" and "Choking on The Chicken Bone!"
I found myself sharing some of these tracks with my girlfriend cuz they were so dam funny!

He is originally from New York, so he does not have a bland TV accent. However, he is understandable. He is very animated and clearly enjoys his work. He keeps the "show" moving by not dawdling along as some audio professors do, but he does not talk so fast that it is hard to keep up.

He does a terrific job blending "black letter" law with hypothetical cases. A worthwhile outline can be constructed from his audio. (However be aware that his "pinch hypothetical" example does not work for all courses/professors. It is the difference between "battery is an intentional harmful or offensive contact" and "battery is an intentional contact that is harmful or offensive." He subscribes to the former and some authorities subscribe to the latter.) He provides a thorough review that has really helped me prepare for finals. He deserves 6 stars. :)

I used this review for the bar exam and found it to be very helpful. Finz is both entertaining and concise. This set is thorough and I would recommend it for law school or the bar or even for professionals just looking for 'nutshell' encapsulation of the subject of Torts. This one compares favorably to the many other Sum and Substance CDs as well as other sets I've listened to.

Listen to these discs two or three times during the semester. You will be happy you did. His jokes and singing voice leave a lot to be desired, but you won't forget it. For example, the ridiculous song of "Chicken bone, chicken bone, choking on a chicken bone" will pain you, but you won't forget the law behind it.

Finz has an interesting accent and he does sing a few times, but this cd set is a great way to refresh after lecture or after reading the text. From intentional torts to strict liability to products liability, Finz covers it all and he uses examples to illustrate his point -very useful. I would give it 5 stars, but he is somewhat annoying. I'll never be able to get "fun trucking, fun truckiiiiiiiinnnnnnggggg" out of my head. Buy the set and find out what I'm talking about.

The guy who does this CD is hysterical! Not in a, "wow what a great comedian" kind of way, but more like an "oh god, that is soooo bad it's funny" kind of way. That is absolutely perfect for this type of study aid! I found myself wanting to listen to more just to hear how this guy would make a fool of himself next. This has 2 of the most important factors in study aid CDs: (1) Easy to listen to; (2) Easy to remember. Don't get me wrong, it's not all jokes. It's packed with all the essentials you need to become a Torts expert. I highly recommend this CD.
