StreetWise Manhattan

This is a smaller version of Streetwise Manhattan which has holes to fit the map into a 6 ring planner. The map includes an inset of the bus routes with the detailed map of Manhattan. Features include churches, hospitals, general sites, limited highway access, subway stations and more.

I purchased this map to use on a short trip to NYC. Although it is laminated and folds up to pocket size, there were better maps in the guide books I purchased. On the trip, I didn't use it very much.

This is a great map of the city, easy to carry around. It's plastic, a big plus when it starts raining or if you spill anything on it. My only complain is that it does not include a Subway Map. It has Subway Routes in the map but with all the streets, etc it get a little difficult to make out.
Overall, great map. A must have for tourist or anyone new to the city.

I use these maps on every trip I go on! They are so accurate and easy to use. The map is durable for every type of weather and small enough to stick in a small bag. There is a streetwise map for every major city we have gone to and we love them! It's a great "memory keeper" as well.

don't waste your money. just because its laminated doesn't make it a good map. Not all streets are on it and sections of manhattan are missing. I wouldn't count on this map to help you out if you don't know the area and have things memorized before you get here. WE got lost on more than one occasion trying to use this thing.
Get the NFT black book of nyc instead. It has all you need and is small enough to fit into your purse or pocket.

I rate this as number three of the four references I purchased to help me navigate NYC. It's sturdy, compact, light weight and packs in all the information you might need to navigate Manhattan and hit the tourist spots.
This is the map to buy if you want to travel light in Manhattan.

I love my Streetwise map. Sometimes it's a little hard to read for these middle aged eyes though. All in all, I couldn't do without it on my trips to Manhattan.

(Hide Review...)  Great!!! ...subway connections would have been helpful though!
Reviewer Permalink
This is great-a laminated trifold that weathered through daily use during my months in NYC. I don't know what I would have done without it! However, while it shows subway STOPS, it doesn't show how they CONNECT. I bought a credit card sized subway connection map at a newspaper stand to supplement. The combination of the two was perfect! Also note that it is about half the size of an 11/13 peice of paper.

I picked this map up on my second day in NYC because it is small (essentially a piece of paper folded in half), lamenated, and had the subway stops/connections along with the streets. Wow, was it worth the money! I walked/took the subway over 4 days and hit every neighborhood all because of the ease of this map. "Study" it while on the train so you are prepared at your next stop. This map along with a multiday subway pass is all you need to have freedom to explore NYC with confidence and speed!

Reviewer Permalink
These levels are all the reviews and manufacturer say they are. We do finish work and cabinet installation and the 4' level is what we were really after. The 16" level was just included in the package, but, after receiving and using it I love it! It is great for installing the ribs and shelving in closets and for close quarters. The 4' is perfect for hanging doors and cabinets. Both are lightweight, easy to handle, and very accurate. I recommend these highly.

To the user whose StreetWise map didn't show the Chrysler Building: You'll be pleased to know that the Chrysler has been added to the latest addition!

I've been using this map since it first came out, and have given away more copies than I can count. I keep a map in each of two briefcases and one in my backpack. I use it several times a month to plot subway routes or to get my bearings in an unfamiliar neighborhood.

I've lived in NYC for thirty-six years, and this is the map I couldn't do without. Great product.

This map has been a godsend to me. Not only does it list popular sites, but it manages to fit the entire island of Manhattan on it. It's great for me, since I go all over the city and definitely need the uptown bits that generally get cut off. Also, having a bus map has turned out to be indispensable more than once. The only thing I could do with is a full subway map. While it does list the stops, it's very hard to see how they all connect and thus plan a trip via subway. But overall, this has been the best pocket map I've found of Manhattan.

I went to New York, Labor Day week, in 2004. I used this map extensively to get around on Subway and locating landmarks around the city. It was my first trip to New York, and I didn't get lost with this map by my side. I highly recommend purchasing this map if you are planning a trip to New York.

This handy dandy Manhattan waterproof map was the perfect size to carry on my walking tour of Manhatten. It has every street, subway, attraction that you could ever want to see. AND if you use a dry erase marker you can mark out your path and later wipe it off. I will ALWAYS buy the Streetwise maps when I travel anywhere from now on. It was very easy to navigate, read, and comprehend. We never got lost or took a wrong subway. Every street is clearly marked. The only problem I had was figuring out if I was facing north, south, east, or west in the city. Once that was figured out, everything was a piece of cake. I used this map for 5 days in NY and it still looks new because of the laminate. No awkward paper folding, it's thin, and nearly weightless. This map is indispensible.

I just returned from my very first visit to the big apple and carried this map every step of the way. Don't leave home without this gem! It never let me down!

Lived there - loved it but I could have saved myself hours of wandering around lost with this in my pocket. Picked it up and reminisced about so many great neighborhoods and holes in the walls in Manhattan. It's a deliciously, culturally engaging place to visit but can be dauntingly intimidating if you're unfamiliar with the culture and lay out. Manhattan has it's own cadence and with this in your purse you can keep up and be confident you're headind in the right direction.

I'm in the process of moving to NYC, and as such have been visiting to try to get aquainted with the various neighborhoods, etc. I bought a variety of maps and tourist books to help me get around, and ths Streetwise Manahattan map was BY FAR the most useful (much better than the Lonely Planet New York map...).

I think the thing that makes it stand out more than Lonely Planet was how the subway stops were annotated with the specific subway lines that stop there, allowing you to plan your travel both above and under ground. Lonely Planet's map only indicates that there is a subway station, which is totally useless due to the variety of subway lines in NYC.

I was appalled when Streetwise Manhattan arrived. I've been to New York many times, but planning a visit for a week in March with my wife, I thought the advertised compactness of this product would be convenient for us carry. But, it is extremely hard to read and devoid of most useful information other than a hard to read street layout. Its only advantage is that it is a hard plastic which won't rip when one puts it in a pocket or purse. I am familiar with many city maps, such as the Michelin Maps of Paris, and in comparison this is simply a terrible product. I ordered a New York Mapguide at the same time, and it is a MUCH better product for almost the same price. If you are an AAA member, you can get also get a good free map of New York from them. The Michelin Guide to New York also has much better maps of the areas most tourists visit. I note that a number of people on Amazon.com rate it highly, but I wonder if they have ever seen competing products. I also note that reviews of Streetwise guides to other cities get a number of negative reviews and I suspect for good reason.

I bought this map before taking a trip to NYC. I was daunted by the thought of navigating around Manhattan, but this map made the whole place seem smaller and much easier to figure out. It was THE most valuable thing I brought with me on my Manhattan vacation! I really like how you can get an overall feel of the size, shape, and layout of Manhattan, and see how all the neighborhoods fit together.

I will be moving to NYC and am currently searching for an apartment in Manhattan, and I could not survive the apartment search without this map. It has been SO helpful. If you're thinking of taking a trip to Manhattan, do not leave home without this map.

I liked the fact that this map covered Manhattan in its entirety, but found the printing on the map a bit too tiny, and you had to turn it over to see the continuation of the island. Other than that, it is a good basic map and handy fold up size. Also quite sturdy.

This is the map to get - small enough to not make you look like a big dork if you need to do a quick "map check" while out on the streets and very easy to carry around, but with plenty of detail, and very easy to immediately read with important buildings marked. It's also laminated for durability.

This little map really increased our enjoyment of New York, and I can recommend it with confidence.

Reviewer Permalink
I have seen many tourists and visitors carry this map around with them in NY. It really does one thing really well, provide you with a barebones map of New York without going into excessive detail that may increase the time it takes to look something up. Streetwise features a clean layout, and a highly readable typeface. Subway stations and landmarks are colorfully pinpointed on the map, and are not crowded together. The physical quality of the map is excellent. It is laminated on heavy card stock, and folds up neatly when not in use. rkchin. more map reviews at http://www.nychinatown.org/bookstore/index6.html

I live in upstate New York. I have the luxory of being able to visit NYC 2-3 times per year. I recently borrowed "Streetwise Manhattan" from a friend of mine for a visit to Ground Zero in late March. I was hooked. I can't tell you how comfortable I felt walking around knowing that I could refer to this easy to read, compact & durable map at any time. Easy to follow - clear depiction of any street, most landmarks as well as transportation lines. I liked it so much I just ordered the Streetwise for Washington D.C. for my trip this summer. You can be sure I'll have a Streetwise map for any major city I visit.

I'm a big fan of Streetwise maps, and Manhattan is no exception; my only problem with it, the only reason it doesn't get five stars, is because I'm also a big fan of the Chrysler Building, and it isn't marked on the map. I suppose that's because it's not open to the public, unlike the Empire State, and you don't need to know where it is in order to see it if you're in Manhattan, but still... not entirely rational, I suppose, but a mild disappointment nonetheless.

I discovered Streewise Manhattan in a New York City bookstore years ago. I acquired a copy, and it quickly became my favorite map of all. Its format and sturdiness made it easy to carry with me without the map breaking down, and it was so easy to read, and to locate everything I wanted. I used it for years, and then - sadly - lost it.

I returned to New York and checked various bookstores there, and no one carried copies of it anymore, so I was thrilled to discover it on Amazon, and promptly ordered a new copy. After getting used to the Streetwise maps all others seem like pale imitations.

I bought this guide when I first moved to NYC 7 years ago. I carried it with me every day as I got to know my way around. I could be adventurous when I was armed with my "steetwise" map because I could walk wherever I wanted and I'd use the map to find the closest subway no matter where I wound up. I continued to carry it with me in my bag every day as long as I lived in New York because you never know when someone will invite you to some new place after work and you need to plan your course for the evening. This guide helps you move around like you're a native and its so small and light there's no reason not to have it with you always. Note: the first one I bought had a couple errors in the subway stops near Central Park on the B and D trains, but I bought another one a year later and found no errors on it. (Now that I've moved out of New York, I even feel nostalgic when I see my old "streetwise manhattan". It served me well.)
