An innovative cardiologist reveals the twelve main causes of heart attack and stroke, and presents his breakthrough plan to restore heart health.
In this groundbreaking book, nuclear cardiologist and research scientist Dr. Richard M. Fleming exposes the devastating impact of arterial inflammation on the heart and what can be done to douse the fire within. Arterial inflammation triggers a dangerous chain reaction, wreaking havoc throughout the body. Dr. Fleming's action plan explains which tests your doctor should be performing to assess heart disease risk and tells why an angiogram is not always an accurate indicator of heart health. He also reveals a complete picture of the twelve causes of inflammation and how to defeat them. Dr. Fleming's unique two-step program restores balance within the body through simple diet and lifestyle changes that can begin to yield measurable results in as little as two weeks. The plan not only prevents further damage to the heart but can also restore blood flow and reverse heart disease's progress-all without surgery or prescription drug dependence. The book includes detailed menus and more than fifty easy-to-prepare recipes for every meal of the day. |

Excellent book to learn how to improve your health with a good diet. Much better than South Beach and the killer Atkins diet.
At a high value price. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-27 00:54:38 EST)

Interesting and informative. There's little that might hurt you in this book, and some ideas that make reasonable sense.

I just bought my second copy of this book. I lost the first one a while back and couldn't remember the menus, so here we go again!
I tried the more aggressive menu about 2 years ago, and wow does it work. Let me give you some info on me so you can get an idea of what you might expect: I'm a 39-year-old male, 5'10" tall, 190lbs. I haven't worked out for a couple years (too much desk work) and my stress levels are higher than back in the day. I eat well enough without the book's menu: oatmeal, coffee (outweighs my water intake), lots of "Morningstar" soy products, lots of chicken, cheeses, pastas, some fruit and vegetables (rarely), red meat maybe once a week, no alcohol, no cigarettes or other tobacco, and so on. After a few years of stress and little exercise, I started feeling it all build up in my chest, shoulders, arms, etc. I had a lot of what I think was heart arythmia (fluttering) and other such weirdness. I did a baseline EKG to see if any damage was done through the years, but it all checked out perfectly. The entire blood panel was great too...low cholesterol, etc. So I decided I would try this book and apply the menu to see if I could FEEL better, since the tests said I was great. I took it to the extreme and went completely greens, vegetables and fruits for 3 months. (I'm also the same guy who tried Atkins a year before that for 2 months and lost 45lbs!). After about 2 weeks of being on this book's diet, I saw my face start to regain some firmness and ...glow?...everything just looked "cleaner" and maybe even a little younger. It was weird to see and harder to explain, but it gave me even more desire to push harder and further! After about 2 months, the fluttering in my chest remained...I didn't care, I was going to go as far as I had to in order to see what I could gain from this new way of eating. Well into my 2nd month, something really strange-feeling happened. It freaked me out but it felt so GOOD after it went away...here's what happened: I had the normal fluttering, but suddenly, in the area of the fluttering, I FELT SOMETHING MOVE AND BREAK AWAY INSIDE MY CHEST. It raced away from its origin and I felt it move for a little bit away from my heart. Instantly the fluttering was gone and I haven't had it since. It's been at least 2 years or more since that happened. What I think happened is that the inflammation in my arteries had begun to go down, resulting in some plaque loosening and ultimately breaking free and literally floating away! I have NO CLUE where it went, but I felt (and still feel) really good! No flutters and no pains. I am starting this menu again and will try and stay on it the best I can for as long as I can. It's hard to remain on the menu (notice I don't say "diet?), as I'm pretty healthy, not obese, and feel I can add weight without any real fears (yeah, right). My main concern is heart and artery health, as the men in my family have a history of clogged arteries! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-28 00:53:24 EST)
