Someday (Sunrise Series #3)

Pressures of the celebrity lifestyle weigh heavily on Dayne and Katy Matthews as they take on separate movie projects. Tabloid rumors talk of trouble and unfaithfulness between the two, but finally something drastic catches Daynes attention and makes him realize the destruction theyre playing with. But will it be too late? The Flanigan family recognizes the deep loss of the Christian Kids Theater program, and they lead a final effort to keep the theater from being torn down. Meanwhile, John Baxter takes the next step in his growing relationship with Elaine, giving him a season to contemplate selling the Baxter house and, along with it, losing a lifetime of memories made there. As the rest of the family considers the future and what may lie ahead, they must pull together like never before. Only their undying love for each other can help the Baxters get past the trials of today for a life they know is possible . . . someday.

Newlyweds and movie stars, Dayne and Katie Matthews are on separate continents filming for their respective films. Even though they love and trust each other, doubts and fears begin to creep in. Then a tabloid prints a picture featuring someone who looks very much like Dayne frolicking with a female costar. Only Dayne knows the truth about the picture but he is sworn to secrecy. Will he ruin his new found reputation as a Christian and his marriage to protect the real perpetrator?

A few months ago, I felt like I was the only reader on earth who hadn't read a Karen Kingsbury novel. Then I picked up my first Baxter Family story and got immediately hooked. What I have enjoyed most about this series is the realistic portrayal of the life of a Hollywood actor. I'm ashamed to admit that I'm one of those who enjoy flipping through the gossip rags that are on display at the checkout counter. I like seeing what the stars are doing. So it was rather interesting to read what it's like from the celebrity's point of view of how damaging the paparazzi really can be. You never really think about how much the media can twist something into a lie. I really wanted to smack Luke while reading this book. As realistic as Dayne has been in the majority of the series, he struck me as kinda fake in this one. If I had been in his shoes, and my brother did something to make everyone in the world think I was a cheater and wreck my marriage, I would not be a happy camper. I'm not saying he should have punched Luke but it seem too easy to forgive him just like that. And Luke didn't really show that much remorse which made it more unbelievable that Dayne was forgiving like that. The stories involving the other members of the family were equally as riveting. I really like reading about John's growing relationship with Elaine. It's very romantic and touching to see two people with huge losses be able to come together and fall in love. I also enjoyed reading about CKT. I really wish we had one of those productions when I was growing up. I would have loved to be a part. I'm going to be sad to leave the Baxter family behind in the next book but as they say, "All good things must come to an end."

(Hide Review...)  Creeped out by the Flanigans
Reviewer Permalink
OK...this wasn't my favorite of the series. I loved "Summer." I love Ashley. She is by far my favorite Baxter.

In this one I hated the deception and miscommunication that comes between Dayne and Katy. The author has given us, what, 7+ books so far to establish that they are madly, passionately in love, and they've been married what, six months--and already Katy believes Dayne is cheating on her? It just doesn't ring true to the characters or their relationship. (Again, though--Ashley saves the day. She always does.)

Is anyone else creeped out by the Flanigans? Think about it--the makeup of the "Flanigan" family--a daughter followed by five boys, three of whom are adopted from Haiti, mom's a writer--is identical to that of the author's own family...and the Flanigans are held up as the ideal, perfect, model family? At least the Baxters have their human side. The worst thing I've seen in all the books was when Jenny was briefly slightly annoyed with Katy because Bailey didn't get a big part in a CKT show. If that's the biggest flaw she has, yikes, there's no hope for the rest of us. Even the names of the kids are similar--"Bailey" and Kelsey, "Connor" and Tyler, "Justin" and Austin, etc. I definitely come away with the feeling that the author is holding up her own family, barely fictionalized, as the epitome of perfection, and it comes across as prideful...I'm reminded of Romans 12:3: "examine yourselves with sober judgment and do not think of yourselves more highly than you ought."

I'm sick of Dayne and Katy and the whole "fame" angle and I hope the last book focuses on Bloomington. That's where the Baxter fans want to be! Oh, I do like Dayne, though. He seems like a good person, especially because he hasn't yet drowned his awful brother Luke in Lake Monroe!

Another great book about the Baxter's from Karen Kingsbury. i love reading her books but very sad when it comes to the end. I can hardy wait for the next book but am also sad because it is the last in the series. Ilove how she adds personal details of other peoples loves woven into the story line. It is alos a blessing to read good clean books that give a gospel mesage.

I've figured out something about Karen Kingsbury's storytelling skill. She is a master in foreshadowing. As I read Someday, I fell into that page turning trance that I tend to suffer from when opening one of her novels. With each chapter, I know something is going to happen that will rock the world of the characters and I somehow want to get to them to warn them, help them avoid it, because I've seen what Karen lets happen within the pages of her novels, and I know this isn't going to be good. Okay, yes, on one hand it's great because her characters grow and change...but the process. Aye-Yi-Yi!

Karen Kingsbury writes reality. I have a tendency, when life is really good, to look over my shoulder wondering if something lurks. Kingsbury incorporates that sense of impending upheaval into her books. My oldest daughter can't sit and read Kingsbury. She has to get up and pace on occasion.

If you haven't read her, and you like to be on the emotional edge of your seat....you might want to look into her. Blessedly she adds much hope to her stories and then pours on some grace. Someday is a tense continuation of the Baxter family saga. If you love the characters you will go for quite a ride.

This series just keeps getting better and better. What an eye-opener for the pressures put on people who are famous. And, a great story of how a supportive family can help in circumstances that look unfixable. This lady writes the best fiction and I want this story to go on and on.

This is a tough review for me, because I wanted to love this book, just like I loved all the other Baxter books. But I got the sense that Karen Kingsbury was (understandably) distracted during the writing of this book. Many of the plot threads were sketchy and ended way too abruptly, and occasionally a character says or feels something that doesn't seem to fit, but seems to be part of a "formula". However, I still recommend this book. The plot twists are interesting, and the writing in the early part of the book is great. I look forward to the next book, but not to leaving the Baxter family!

I have read many of Karen Kingsbury's books, and "Someday" in keeping with her writing style touched my heart. In her book she deals with problems that people face each day, and how they are able to face them through their relationship with Jesus Christ. The fictional family, "the Baxters" have their share of issues to face. Stardom takes it's toll on the life of two of the characters, but their faith sustains them. In another member, God takes trajedy and uses it for good. I highly recommend this book to anyone, along with the author's other books.

The religious theme is woven within the story and is not overwhelming for the average religious person....the story itself is more pronounced. Highly recommend the entire series.

Many changes have taken place in the Baxter family! Some of the changes are very good and are happy memories, while others are not. Just like in normal everyday life there are some experiences which we would rather not have to live through. Landon and Ashley have recently faced the birth and death of their daughter Sarah. The whole Baxter family rallies around the family who has two young boys.

John Baxter is facing one of the biggest decisions of his life. He has been a widower for a number of years, losing his beloved wife and mother of his six children. Elaine has been there for him through this time of adjustment. Their relationship has grown into something which he would like to be a permanent part of his life. However, he is scared; how will the children react and is he still too much in love with his first wife to move on? He is looking for answers and approval from his kids. He has been preserving the kids' memories of their mother by putting together a scrapbook of pictures and copies of the letters which Elizabeth wrote to them through the years.

Dayne and Katy are now married. However, the honeymoon doesn't last nearly long enough. Like any newlyweds, reality is going to have to set in. But their life is anything but normal because Dayne is a popular movie star who is constantly being hounded by the paparazzi. To make matters worse, Katy is working on a film in London while Dayne is in Cobo San Lucas for a number of weeks. When the tabloids get a hold of a picture of Dayne's sexy young co-star, and ex-girlfriend of Dayne's, she is pictured with a man in a provocative situation. Rather than giving him the benefit of the doubt, the tabloids exploit the situation. It puts the lifelong vows to Katy being questioned. Can their love survive? Is it possible that it was just someone who might have looked like Dayne in the pictures?

The theater which housed the Christian Kids Theater is due for demolition. Can the Baxters and the community of Bloomington, Indiana save an important landmark in their city? It would mean so much to the kids and those involved in the theater. What are God's plans for the family and the city?

"Someday" is an excellent book by the very talented author, Karen Kingsbury. This is a book which will have you glued from one chapter to another. You won't want to set the book down until you have finished every chapter. If you are looking for a story to grip you and make you think about God's plan for your life and His ultimate control of every situation, this is the one you should select. Don't wait until some day to start this book. Start reading "Someday" today and you surely won't be disappointed

Karen Kingsbury has done her usual exceptionally awesome job of writing with this book. She manages to spin a story line that keeps the reader on the edge of his/her seat for awhile, then that resolves itself. I am looking forward to her next book to find what happens to one couple who seemed to be left hanging in this book. I'll be the first in line to buy Sunset! I just can't say enough about how much I enjoy Karen's books and the new perspectives they have given me on some controversial issues. They have also helped me to have a breater insight into the trials and failures Christians face and how God can use these situations for His glory. Everyone should read this book (and the other books in this series. Personally, I think everyone should read ALL of Karen's books, but I AM a little biased, as she is my favorite author!

As always Karen Kingsbury brings great writing into our lives. The Baxter family has become a part of lots of people's lives. The solution of Katy and Dayne's problems with prayer and understanding is powerful. The entering of a new love into Mr. Baxter's life is proof that even tho we have lost a life partner, we can still find happiness with a future partner. Luke and his family are embarking on a new understanding relationship.
Ashley and her family are moving on after losing a precious daughter. Karen deals with reality in relationships and reminds that, after all, God is still in charge and trust in Him will keep us all in good hands.

Excellent Book as are all her books. I can hardly wait for the 4th in this series. I will miss the Baxter family when the series ends.
Perhpas whe will find a way to continue with the family . there are so many choices with the many children in the family.

I like the way she brings in her readers as charcters in some of the books. you feel like they are your neighbors. It certainly doesn't always come out the way I thought or hoped it would which makes it very interesting.
Excellent reading for all ages.

I usually keep the whole set together and then pass it on to a friend in a nursing home so she doesn't have to wait months in beween publishing.
They then go into the Nursing home library.

As usual, Karen has met every expectation I had for her latest book in the Sunrise Series. I feel I know the Baxter family so well and their experiences touch so many areas of my own life. The only problem is, I have to wait so long for the next installment. Being a senior, John and Elaine's relationship is much more understandable, than it could be for my daughter, who reads each book, as soon as I finish it. But her experiences with infertility, adoption, and a special needs child are all realistically addressed. The way Karen portrays Katy & Dayne's struggle with the paparazzi has confirmed my view of the tabloids at the grocery checkout. I shudder at the exploitation of so many stars and wouldn't spend a dime to read any of them.

I really, really loved this book! This is the kind of book that will warm your heart with inspiration and hope... If I had to summarize my feelings when I finished it, I would say I felt filled with HOPE. Hope for the future and faith in God's plans.
Dayne and Katy struggle to protect their marriage while living in the spotlight. Both, the reality show that they agreed to do and the tabloids start rumors that the couple is breaking up. This situation is especially hard on Katy, who starts wondering about their marriage. I love these two characters... and in this book they are so sweet and loving. They face serious problems, but they face them with love and faith.
Luke and Reagan also have a very complicated story in this book. I wish it could have been developed a little better. In the end, their story is a bit abrupt and we are not presented with many details. But I guess you cannot have all the details about every Baxter in a 350-pages book!
Elaine and John have some struggles as well... but everything works according to God's plans.
Other Baxters also appear in this book and other important things happen...but I don't want to spoil your reading... If you are a fan of this series you will not be disappointed...

In Bloomington all the extended families of the Baxters gather at the hospital where Ashley gives birth to Sarah, who died a few hours later. Although everyone knew the baby would not survive, they all grieve their loss and turn to God for solace. Patriarch widower John Baxter decides to propose to Elaine Denning who has brought much to his life even as he still loves and reveres the memory of his late first wife. However, he fears the reactions of his adult children.

Three weeks after the funeral that still haunts everyone, John's son Hollywood actor Dayne Matthews and Dayne's wife Katy travel to different countries to film movies. However, on location the tabloids have a field day with Dayne caught in a compromising position that could destroy his marriage. Luke Baxter also seems to have wandered away from his vows while John and Elaine end their relationship.

Fans of the series will mourn the death of the newborn as the Baxters especially Ashley and her spouse Landon struggle to understand why God would allow such a tragedy. There will not be a dry eye in the house especially when Ashley, the inspirational moral fiber of this tale, begins to believe in the miracle of Sarah. Although an affair seems out of place, readers will enjoy this warm tale as Ashley knows that SOMEDAY she and Sarah will be together looking down to help future Baxter descendents find the Lord.

I have read all of the books Karen Kingsbury has written about the Baxter Family. John comes to a decision about his relationship with Elaine. Ashley tries to keep the family happy and together. Katy and Dayne struggle with their seperation. Luke and Reagan try to keep their marriage together. All of other Baxters (and some of the Flannigans) are featured. An excellent book for everyone one, but especially for Kingsbury fans. The story of the Baxters is winding to a close. Karen Kingsbury has made the entire family seem real to us. The only bad news: Only one book remaining for those of us who love the Baxters!
