SWM -- Successful biographer of family; books recently categorized as "paranormal romances." Doesn't like sunbathing, garlicky dinners or religious symbols. Likes old-fashioned values; spicy Mexican dishes; warm, nice-smelling necks and plump red lips. Currently unaware he's seeking a woman to share eternity.
SWF -- Newest editor of Romance at Roundhouse Publishing. Has recently discovered a legacy author dying to be broken out. (The tall, dark, handsome writer just needs go to romance conventions and be introduced to his fans.) Dislikes "difficult, rude, obnoxious pig-headed writers." Currently unaware she's met the man of her wildest dreams. |

This book for the record, was not as good as A Quick Bite, but better than Love Bites. I struggled with the notion of giving this book a three star but rejected it, based on the fact that I have given many better books than this a three star. Still this isn't quite as bad as the other books I have given a two star...so 2 1/2 stars, really. Here, we once again re-visit the Argeneau vampire series. This time, grumpy Lucern gets his turn to to find a human chick who can't read his mind to fall in love with and then turn into a vampire. Predictabiltiy bites. Kate is everything a man would want in an eternity mate. She is fiesty, indespendant, and sexy... She is good natured even when dealing with tempermental Lucern. Kate is an editor for the romance novels Luc writes. But really they aren't novels, the are historical novels because they tell what has really happened in his family. Kate is a little dense at times and it takes her WAY too long to figure out that Luc is a vamp. This book is more comedic than Love Bites and there are very funny, well played scenes here. However, in between those funny, well played scenes are a lot of boring filler pages. We never truly grasp what is so special about Kate that in four hundred plus years, she stands out as THE ONE. And we never truly understand why Kate falls for grumpy nosed Lucern. Still, I like this family. I like the comic portions of these books. The sex scenes are pretty boring, and there are tons of repetitive things that happen in each of the first three books. Still, one could pass the time in many worse ways than to read this book. I know that this is a lighthearted series but it could benefit from some more depth to the characters, and some variances in plot elements. Other than that, Ms Sands can write some stellar moments into a book and there are little snippets of this story I probably won't forget easily.

Lucern Argeneau just wants to be left alone. After 600 years he's bored with life and living and is just muddling through. He's a successful author, but even that doesn't bring him any real joy -- just helps pass the time.
Then enters his editor, Kate, who thrusts herself into his life when he refuses to help market his books. Kate is recently promoted and wants to maintain her position, but to do that, she needs to get her most popular author to sign up for some publicity engagements. Just one book signing would make her happy. But Lucern is known as a recluse and when he refuses to answer written requests with more than one word (No) or give her his phone number, she has no choice but to show up on his doorstep. From that point on begins a series of hilarious events as Lucern tries to fight his attraction to his new editor and keep secret the fact that he is a vampire and the vampire romances he's been penning are more fact than fiction. This is the first book published in the Argeneau Vampire series, but chronologically, comes third. Of the 8 books out so far, this is my favorite. Lucern's brooding, serious nature was irresistible to me and I loved watching his personality come alive with Kate's influence. I highly recommend this book, as well as the rest of the series. Single White Vampire is yet another mindblowing Lynsay Sands book. Lucern is being annoyed but his new editor to do some publicity but can hardly do TV when he needs blood, avoids sunlight and of course doesn't age. How long can he keep his new publisher and her co-workers in the dark? And how long can he deny his attraction to her a thirst he hasn't felt for centuries.
Lynsay Sands does it again. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-26 01:08:51 EST)

This is my favorite so far of the Argeneau series. It had some really funny moments and I liked that the focus of the book is the hero and heroine and not some side story. The book isn't great but if you want a good read that makes you smile than this is the one for you.

I really hate romance novels. That being said, I loved this book. I was wandering around a book store and the cover caught my eye. I thought I'd give it a try, and I'm in love with the Argeneaus! The series is just a ton of fun. Funny and sweet and keeps your interest. The vampire back story is a little strange, but if you can put Atlantis aside, you'll love it. Oh, and read this one first. It's not the first in order of occurrence, but it's the first written in the series.

Not the first book in the series, but the first I started with. I got to page 108 and had to stop. I don't feel a connection to the main characters. Plus, I don't feel the main characters themselves connect. Sands is clearly trying to write a paranormal romance (as is the trend these days), but is rushed in doing so. Kate and Lucern have no spark.

I think I hurt from laughing after I finished this. I bought it ages ago, but kept putting it aside. The cover was just so bland. I finally reached the bottom of my TBR stack and there is still was. Now I am sorry I put it off so long.
I adore Lucern! What a grumpy sexy vampire. Him in the supermarket wanting to bite the steak was brilliant! Highly recommended for someone who needs a smile on their face. Cannot wait to read the rest in this series. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-04 09:54:49 EST)

I loved this book. I like vampire novels and I really like Lynsay Sands' Argeneau family series. The book is easy to read (very fast). It is so funny that at times I would be laughing out loud and get very curious looks from my husband and children. It is just a fun, sexy and entertaining book to read and continues the mythology of the Argeneau family. I've read all the other books in the series, but not in order and had no problem following along.

Mixing the cliches of romance with the cliches of preternatural stories results in a flat, boring story that has none of the chicklit humour of MaryJanice Davidson or Katie MacAlister. Not worth the time or attention.

I really like vampire novels, so I was eager to read "Single White Vampire" -- the title was so clever, I couldn't wait to see the book.
I was disappointed. This book comes out of the romance novel tradition, and while there's nothing wrong with that, it's not my thing. The book wasn't at all what I was expecting: the vampires in this novel eat food, like garlic, go to church, and can go out in the sun as long as they wear long sleeves. In other words, the vampires have been cleaned up for the conventions of the romance novel. If that's your cup of tea, go for it, but this novel may disappoint those of us whose ideas about vampires come from the horror tradition and not the romance tradition. For sexy and romantic vampires that DO come more from the horror tradition, try Laurell K. Hamilton. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-08-01 01:34:41 EST)

I loved the premise of this book. And it was an enjoyable read. But the writing style is simplistic and the characters lack depth, in my opinion. So, if you want a fun, fast read, this would do. But if you're looking for more, I'd say keep looking.

It is generally looked down on calling a book cute, but sometimes words attach themselves to books in my mind, and I mean the term with respect. This book rings out as cute in my mind. It is funny, light, and you have the urge to strangle both main character more than half the time for be blind and or stubborn. In other words, I enjoyed it.
Kate Leever is a new editor trying to prove her worth. Lucern Argneau is a reclusive author who happens to be a vampire and is positively mortified that the family biographies he wrote are now bestselling paranormal romance novels. The two bang heads as Kate tries to get Lucern to do a book signing tour, an interview, or anything. To get rid of her he finally agrees to do a publicity act, and most of the book is set at a romance convention. Everywhere the sparks fly, heads butt, and crazy antics ensue. Aside from comical and emotional (mostly frustration) writing, this book boasts an extremely interesting mythology behind the existence of vampires. (I am a sucker for good world building and well thought out unique mythologies) For those who enjoy light hearted paranormals this is a well worth it read. I have never tried a "paranormal romance" book before, so I decided I would give this one a try after a friend of mine recommended. I was not disappointed, but I wasn't "wowed" either.
Basically, Kate Leever is an editor with a publishing firm, and she is trying to get one of her writers, Lucern, who also happens to be a vampire, to do publicity tours and events to increase his books sales. Lucern wants to be left alone, but Kate is very pushy about it. Eventually, with the help of Lucern's mother, Kate manages to get Lucern to a 5 day romantic writers conference. Hilarity and sex ensue. I think the use of nanotechnology as the causation of vampirism was a fresh take on the subject. However, whenever one tries to reinvent the genre, he/she must have a solid understanding of how they want that. Sands does an excellent job of crafting this new idea with the exception of one aspect. She does not address children. Apparently vampires can have children, but what happens then? Is there some kind of set cut-off for when the child doesn't age anymore, and doesn't that go against the whole nanotechnology idea? I have found that children seem to be the big issue with vampires and other immortal creatures. Most authors just take the easy route and say it's impossible. For those that do try to grapple with this issue, it's very difficult to figure out a plausible solution. The sex scenes were definitely tantalizing and there were funny scenes. The characters were decently likeable (not that it really matters), but I kind of felt they were both being really stupid. Anybody who has read any form of romance knows that it all follows the same "boy meets girl-boy loses girl-boy and girl are reunited" kind of plot. I just think the "boy loses girl" part was never really that plausible. I think it was kind of forced. Overall, it's a good read. It's fast, and it'd be perfect for a beach or a plane ride. 3.5 Stars. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-20 02:57:07 EST)

I loved this book. I was hestitant to buy it because lately I have been comparing every vampire book/series to Charlaine Harris's series. Well, I read this book in one day. I now am actually looking for the other two books of Lynsay Sands called Love Bites, and Tall, Dark, and Hungry. These stories are about a vampire family that lives in Toronto. They have humor, sex, and romance in them. They also tell a little bit about how they became vampires. I wasn't disappointed.

I threw this across the room in disgust. Serves me right for buying a book based on an amusing title.
The writing was sophomoric, the story was trite, and her "new" spin on the origins of vampirism was just idiotic. Way to uphold the cliche that vampires always have to be the most beautiful, intelligent, wealthy, successful, blah blah blah, make me puke. You're writing about vampires, not teddy bears with fangs. Don't buy this book unless you like having your intelligence insulted. I've read more compelling refrigerator manuals. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-20 02:57:07 EST)

I only give this 4 stars, because it isn't fair to other books (katie macalister's vamp books) that made me laugh out louder, and that had much better developed characters.
Still this is a very enjoyable read, so much even, that I bought the other two books in the series :D (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-20 02:57:07 EST)

So you have this eccentric vampire, Luc, who really just wants to be left alone to write his NONFICTION history books and not bother with the telephone, email, mail, or any real human contact. Even his own vampire family can be a bit bothersome at times. It's not like he is really undead--he can go out in the sun, with protective sunscrean; he can eat foods, with a supplement of a lot of blood; he doesn't sleep in a coffin, regardless of the fact there is one in his basement. He can do lot's of normal everyday things. So why is this nut job of an editor, Kate, hounding him. First she writes constantly. Asking for his email, his phone number, his consent to do public book signings. I mean is she nuts? She says his fiction vampire romance books are a hit, but what makes her think they are fiction. The stories of how his parents, brother, and sister met their wife and husbands is absolutely true. And to put the icing on the cake, the woman has actually showed up at his house and brought her luggage. Sheesh! Life will never be the same.
This novel cracked me up! I think you will enjoy it, too. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-20 02:57:07 EST)

I really enjoyed this series. All of the characters were great, and I found that I was looking forward to most of the secondary characters stories that I hope will come. It's just that throughout this series (Love Bites, Singly White Vampire, & Tall, Dark and Hungry) there were many moments where it fell short for me. As I was reading I kept telling myself I couldn't wait to finish the series and move on to something more exciting. If you're looking for a romance/comedy with a great family then you'll enjoy this series. I just need more (a villain, a mission, something!) Yes, there was a comical vampire hunter in Love Bites but as far as vampirism; the author could have skipped it all together. They preferred bagged blood as opposed to biting (which they considered "out of fashion" unless it was an emergency), which for me seemed to take the intimacy out of it. (And as far as the bagged blood, well...Yuck!). These were also not very "Alpha" men. Etienne was a video game inventor, Lucern was an author, and Bastien was a businessman. There were only two instances where Etienne and then Lucern were put in "dangerous" positions where they encountered a vampire hunter (which was more comical than anything else). In "Tall, Dark and Hungry" there was absolutely nothing. Granted I may be comparing this author to Christine Feehan or Sherrilyn Kenyon whom have both created such awesome worlds, and whose books are full of action and suspense. I guess that's just it. These stories are just about relationship development. When I read a "Vampire" book I want magic! Suspense, shape shifting, bad guys, etc...5 stars because this series was great just not my favorite sort.

Lucern Argeneau is a four hundred year old vampire, trying to adapt to the 21st century. He has decided that to do so he will tell the "fiction" stories of his family, which once his editor sees them decided they are fantastic contemporary romances. To his surprise, they are a big success, so much so his editor, Kate C. Leever is trying to drag him to a romance convention to promote his books. Lucern is a very sexy and grumpy 30/400 year old, and he is determined NOT to go to a book convention. However, Kate is a whirlwind, an editor who is in need of a life and a good career move she not only shows up on his doorstep but she gets aid from his family to make him go. By the time Kate installs Lucern in the convention hotel; she is becoming concerned there is something very wrong with Lucern's health. She is shocked to find out the truth when she figures out his stories are not fiction. All the while you can see the 2 of them falling in love! This is part of a series but you can easily read them out of order.
As usual L. Sands makes me laugh out loud with her writings. I love the scene at the supermarket where he is almost to the point of stalking a woman through the store. Also when he is watching Monty Pyton for the first time is hysterical! (Review Data Last Updated: 2005-07-08 08:38:11 EST)

This book was very cute, and worthy of 5 stars because it delivers a funny, romantic, energetic, and modern love story. Although the title may be off-putting to some, this book is thoroughly modern ! The references (i.e. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and all the latest in condom-wear) keep the book from taking itself too seriously, and the result is some very funny scenes involving the two characters. Admittedly, some of the scenes did go on a bit long, but overall it didn't detract from the story. The main character, Lucern is more of an old-fashioned romantic than a vampire, and the vampire references are actually pretty minimal. The story is first and foremost about a romance, and the vampire thing is just secondary in this book. The characters are very funny at times, and very romantic too. I look forward to Etienne and Rachel's story in Love Bites. Recommended!

I have just finished reading SWV and now I've started on "Love Bites", which is said to be the sequel, but it seems to take place prior to the time of SWV. I agree with one reviewer who said that you should probably read "Love Bites" first, because it tells the story of how Etienne and Rachael got together. They are indeed already married in the SWV, which can get somewhat confusing. I don't understand why Lynsay Sands wrote them in this order. Enough said about that! This story was somewhat different in the humor than the Katie MacAlister vampire romance books I had previously finished. Luc (the vampire) was so..funny, whereas the girl was somewhat "normal" or "straitlaced" in contrast to the girls in the Katie MacAlister books, who were much more witty and outrageous! I agree with the reader who also laughed at the codpiece scene at the Romanic Times Convention, and later when Luc was trying to desperately purchase condoms at the hotel! I never laughed so hard, and I was afraid someone would see me and think I had lost my mind! Read this book!! Luc came across as somewhat stuffy in the beginning, but was so hilarious throughout the rest of the story. Read this book!!! I am now anxious to see how Etienne and Rachael got together, as their characters had cameo appearances in this story.

I am typically not a reader of vampire novels, but a friend loaned me "Single White Vampire" and insisted it was one of the funniest books she'd read in a while. A funny vampire book? Doesn't that sound intriguing? So I started to read it and really didn't expect much, but oh was I ever wrong!
Lynsay Sands spins a fantastic tale about a 600-year old romance novel writing vampire who falls for his pushy new editor, Kate. Lucern, the vampire, isn't the nicest of guys - in fact he is downright mean at times. And Kate is stubborn and, quite frankly, doesn't have much going on in her life other than work. Somehow the two see the good parts of each other and you find yourself routing for them. On top of it all, there are many humorous situations throughout the book that are laugh out loud funny. All in all "Single White Vampire" is witty and fun. I can't wait to read the rest of this series. (Review Data Last Updated: 2005-07-08 08:38:12 EST)

Have you ever read a book with an interesting plot idea but with characters you just didn't like? That's how I felt about Single White Vampire.
Kate C. Leever is the editor for Lucern Argeneau, a popular paranormal fiction writer. When Kate's job demands that she book Argeneau for a publicity tour, she finds Argeneau QUITE uncooperative. When Argeneau continues to resist her demands, Leever travels to Toronto to meet him. Thus begins a rather annoying and banal vampire story which tries to be funny but quite simply wasn't. I wanted to like this story, but I HATED the character of Lucern. I'm not a big fan of 'growly' fuss-bucket heroes to begin with, but Lucern is so cranky he needs to invest in serious Midol. What's so funny about one syllable answers to everything? Also, I just didn't find this book very romantic.. Lucern was just NOT a nice guy, and Kate's attitude was so unrealistic and perky it was not to be believed. Sure Kate...Stay with an abusive mean man, and hope you'll be able to change him...Righttt....... I found this novel disappointing. Sand's other books were much better. The humor in this book tended primarily toward slapstick, and though it was funny at times, I've read much funnier. Katie MacAlister's Improper English is funnier by a a hundred miles. Some scenes, like the Renaissance Ball, went on too long.
Honestly, much of it was too slow and uninteresting to me. It took me a good while to read it. In fact, I stopped about 1/3 of the way through and read two other books before I made myself get back to it. The second half was better, but it's not one I'll buy or reread. Then again, contemporaries aren't my favorite romances anyway. Nutshell: okay, a few excellent scenes, not that funny, too long, not engrossing enough. But I'm bumping it up to three stars to account for my possible aversion to contemporary romances. (Review Data Last Updated: 2005-07-08 08:38:12 EST)

A funny vampire novel. Is that an oxymoron? Well, if it is, then this book has managed to pull it off. Its an enjoyable, funny and fast read. Lucern Argeneau is a reclusive best selling romance novelist who only writes "fact". He is also a 600 year old vampire who is most certainly not "undead" as Kate Leever, his editor, is about to find out.
Kate is sent to Toronto in Canada to get Lucern to agree to *any* publicity she can get out of him for her company. She finds a horrible, surly, unfriendly man hibernating in his house - what a girl to do in the face of such obstacles if she is to keep her job when she gets home? Kate is one stubborn woman and this is the story of how Lucern and Kate get to know and fall in love with the better sides of each others nature. It also handily sends up both the Vampire and Romance book genres along the way and doesn't take itself too seriously. For a new, and very funny, take on vampires this is a worthwhile read. This was a fun filled read but it sort of lagged in the middle when the heroine took her romance writing vampire hero to a Romantic Times convention. There were lots of insider jokes that I semi got because I've subscribed to the RT mag for ages but readers unfamiliar w/ RT might be a little lost. The heroine continued to act like a brainless nitwit until the books end but the hero was a great change of pace. Very little brooding and lots of sex appeal.

I had my doubts when I picked up this book but from the start when I read Lucien's replies to his editor I started laughing. The scene by the van when Kate was sure they were smoking "debbies" was hilarious. My co-workers kept giving me odd looks when I'd start laughing but it was worth it. A light read if you want a pleasant break from intense story lines.

Lucern Argeneau is six hundred years old. Having lived through part of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the era of the Founding Fathers, civil wars in England and the USA, world wars and the opening night of The King And I, he knows his history - and so ten years ago he started writing accounts of the periods he's lived through. Not as dry and dusty as most history books, they sold really well. And then, as his siblings started to meet the partners of their dreams and, as well as the usual agonies associated with love and marriage, had to deal with the issue of exactly when to tell their loved ones that they are centuries old and drink blood in order to live - that in fact they are vampires - Luc turned to writing their stories as well.
Unfortunately - or fortunately in one respect! - his editor assumed that he'd switched to writing fiction. And his books have been marketed on the romance list. And now Luke Amirault, his pen-name, is a best-seller, and his new editor, Kate Leever, is pestering him to do some publicity. Nothing much. Not too onerous Just a few interviews. A couple of TV appearances. An international book-signing tour. Luc's responses to Kate's letters are short and to the point. "Dear Ms Leever, Knowing that her job depends on getting her elusive author to drop the surly, uncommunicative and downright hostile approach he's taken and become just a bit more grateful to the publishing company which has brought him fame and fortune, Kate turns up unannounced at his house, determined to get him to change his mind. Panicked - he can't, after all, afford to let Kate find out the truth about him, and she's already getting suspicious on discovering that his siblings and their spouses have the same names and occupations as the characters in his books - Luc agrees to just one interview. The Romantic Times one his mother suggests. But what his mother has omitted to tell him is that the RT event is not an interview - it's a five-day *conference*! In the US, while he lives in Canada! And so a very hungry vampire - after all, he can't take blood past customs - turns up at a romantic fiction conference. And Luc, despite being babysat by two editors - Kate and her male colleague Chris - finds temptation all around. Imagine what Kate thinks when she returns to their suite to find Luc, to whom she is more than a little attracted, nibbling Chris's neck! Or her thoughts when he swiftly turns his nibbling to her... What with jewelled codpieces, raids on blood banks, a vampire fancy-dress party and interfering vampire siblings all over the place, this book is a riot. If you never knew that vampire romance could be funny, this is the place to start! And Sands is continuing the series; Etienne and Rachel's story is now available in Love Bites. So what are you waiting for? wmr-uk (Review Data Last Updated: 2005-07-08 08:38:13 EST)

Lucern Argeneau is Roundhouse Publishing most successful paranormal romance writer. Lucern is a quite reclusive man who hates to have his orderly world disturbed by his new editor Kate Leever. Kate is convinced that getting Lucern out to book signings and romance conventions will boost both of their careers. Lucern has not met a woman like Kate in all of his 600 plus years. He doesn't know what to make of his feelings for this modern, pesky, beautiful woman.
Kate's feelings for Lucern have her confused as well. Lucern is from another place and time. Can she make her love for Lucern work for all time. Lynsay Sands has written an immensely funny, sexy book. You will root for these unlikely lovers to make a commitment for eternity. (Review Data Last Updated: 2005-07-08 08:38:15 EST)

Boy when I read the reviews on this book, I wondered if I had gotten a different story. This has to be one of the worst I've read in 2003. The heroine was a fool and the hero was a pain. I saw no comedy in this book, barely registered the humor and couldn't even finish it. I finally skipped to the last few pages from the middle just so I could see what the ending was and if I wanted to try to finish it. Nope, ended up throwing the book in my get-rid-of-in-a-hurry box. Wish I could get my money back as this was not worth the money I paid for it!

I was laughing so hard I scared the kitten. I have not enjoyed a book this much in a while, and I read ALOT. It took me all of 7 1/2 hours to finish. I just could not stop reading it. I don't just recommend this book, I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone!

Kate C Leever has the impossible task of convincing Lucern Argeneu to participate in his own publicity. The maddening author's one word response "No" to each of her letters makes it a little hard to believe he could be a bestselling romance novelist. Taking the bull by the horns, she journeys to Canada determined to win him over, a little bit anyway.
Lucern is as sexy as his romances. Despite being surly, he blows Kate's mind. Only with his very youthful mother's help does he manage to con him into attending a RT convention, much to his own dismay. Luc is a vampire, and traveling is not something he is thrilled about. Nonetheless, he is a man of his word, and Kate is an attraction as well. Falling for her is a most unexpected complication, for both of them. ***** If this time of year has you feeling a bit down because you're supposed to be happy, but aren't, then read this book, even if you don't like those "weird" books. It will give you genuine laughs as you watch Luc act like a six hundred year old little boy and see him encounter the modern world. His reaction to Buffy alone is worth the book. There is plenty of romance, and a whole new twist on the vampire legend that is thoroughly original. May the Family Argenean Series live long and prosper. ***** Reviewed by Amanda (Review Data Last Updated: 2005-07-08 08:38:15 EST)

Similar premise to the Tanya Huff vampire books (vampire romance author), but with more humor and less mystery.
This one was a page turner and I read it in one sitting. Would like to see Ms Sands write more books featuring other members of the Argeneau vampire family. (Review Data Last Updated: 2005-07-08 08:38:15 EST)

This is the first book in a while that I have read with a grin thru the whole thing. This book was great! The words codpiece and condoms will forever bring those two hilarious episodes to mind. This is the first book I have ever read by this author and it's not going to be the last if her others are as top notch as Single White Vampire. Definitely don't miss this!

This book was really a treat. For a romance novel, the characters are really developed and you are extremely disappointed when this book ends. I really hope that the author turns this into a series. Her writing style is new, exciting, light, and fun. I couldn't stop myself from laughing out loud. I look forward to reading more of her books.

I LOVED this book!!! It was funny as heck. Everyother line had me laughing out loud. The title of my review is MY FAV line of the entire book. I like the interaction between the Hero and his family members, and her reaction to finding out what he really is. I also liked that he was not an all knowing all seeing powerful kind of vamp. He was more human than any other vamp in a book I have seen. Oh but the sex is still amazing w/him apparantly so its all right. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a good, funny , fantasy read. And even tho I am married, I wouldn't mind meeting a SWV myself lol
