Sheep in a Jeep

What could be better than a misadventure from that rambunctious flock of sheep in board-book form? Two! Now sized perfectly for even the smallest hands, two of Nancy Shaw and Margot Apple's enchanting titles from their sheep series are board books. In Sheep in a Jeep, the hapless flock goes for a drive in the country. In Sheep in a Shop, the sheep are off to the store in search of the perfect birthday gift. With these muttonheads, a normal outing is sure to turn into a joyous lark. Rhyming text and disarming illustrations make these shear delights!
"Beep! Beep! Sheep in a jeep on a hill that's steep."
This story, much like the jeep, gathers momentum from page one. When five foolish sheep cram into one jeep, their high spirits and occasional lack of foresight (like forgetting to steer) combine to make a riotous, if ill-fated, road trip. Plummeting over a hill, tumbling into a mud puddle, yelping for help, these muttonheads just can't get their act together, much to the delight of young readers.

Nancy Shaw's Seussian rhymes are guaranteed to tickle every reader's funny bone, while providing a great little learning tool, as well. Who wouldn't want to learn how to read, after hearing lines like this: "Jeep goes splash! Jeep goes thud! Jeep goes deep in gooey mud!" Well-loved illustrator Margot Apple humorously captures the dopey expressions and preposterous predicaments of Shaw's sheep. More wild and woolly misadventures can be found in any of Shaw and Apple's other sheepish titles, including Sheep on a Ship and Sheep Take a Hike. (Ages 2 to 7) --Emilie Coulter

The story is great, but the words that are used in this book are long vowels which is, for my 7 mo baby, short vowel sounds might be more simple and attractive.

This is a hilarious simple rhyming board book about sheep riding in a jeep and getting into several scrapes which end with a wrecked jeep for sale. This nicely illustrated story uses vocabulary that doesn't often come up at this level of language but which is easily understandable. The humor can be appreciated by all ages.

My five year old granddaughter could read this all by herself. It's a great book for a beginning reader.

My daughter loooooooooooves this book! And I have to admit, I love it too. I've read it so many times at the request of my daughter I can pretty much recite the whole thing by memory. I totally recommend this book to anyone who has a kid! It is cute and funny and the rhyming and the pictures keeps the kids engaged! A must have!

I'm not as happy with this book as I thought I'd be. I had seen it in a magazine and thought it might be good for my toddler but it really doesn't read very well and doesnt' seem to flow well.

Children will most certainly laugh when this book is read to them. At 31 I thought it was quite funny, as did my 3 year old nephew who I purchased it for. Very simple and short but well worth it!

I have given Sheep books to almost all of the children that I have known since I first happened across the book. Not only do they like it, but it is amusing to the reader, as well. This is truly classic literature.

What makes Sheep in a Jeep such a delight to read is its unabashed use of onomatopoeia. Indeed, some of my daughter's first words were "splash" and "thud" as she recited along this favorite story.

With every page Shaw's vivid vocabulary comes alive in perfectly-metered rhyme, adeptly complimented by Apple's whimsical illustrations. In a format just long enough to delight, and short enough to entertain, it's little wonder Sheep in a Jeep has been such a longstanding favorite.

I can't recommend it highly enough for your own little ones, and it makes a great baby shower gift inclusion!

This is a great rhyming book with sight words. A wonderfully illustrated board book that is great for kids...especially those with parents who own Jeeps.

Sheep in a Jeep tells the a rip-roaring story of a bunch of sheep who get into a lot of trouble with a jeep. These rhymes and more abound in Sheep in a Jeep.

The cute sing-song words to this book make it perfect for toddlers. It's short and sweet, so it can keep their attention. There are plenty of animals to capture the interests of little ones. And finally...it's short..did I mention that?

This is one of my little girl's favorite book and I don't mind reading it over and over again.

We got this book as a gift when my son was 2 years old. It's gone through two more kids and they all love it! We take it with us when we go for Jeep rides, too! We have "Sheep out to eat" and they don't like that as much as the Jeep one. It's a great book to have, especially if you own a Jeep!

This series is full of easy rhymes. It makes a great early reader, as well as a great read-aloud for a younger preschooler or toddler.

The sheep, in their jeep, have a run of rhyming problems, until they finally realize they're better off without it. Great fun, funny and cute.

Sheep in a Jeep is a fun book using rhythmic wording. The pictures are humorous. My disappointment was with the small size of the board book. No where did it say the miniature dimensions of the book. I prefer board books that are in the larger format of 8x11.

Our school district had a paperback version of this book (not cardboard) as a part of the reading curriculum for the kinders and it was so cute I had to buy it in order to keep it at home. The facial expressions of these sheep are too adorable, the sentence structure is kept simple, and it rhymes. Plus, the kids love it :^).

As a Jeep owner, when I saw this book at my library's book fair - I just HAD to get it for my toddler. A year later, we still love reading it. The rhymes are great and so memorable that we find ourselves using some of the lines whenever a mishap occurs in our daily lives. Whether you're a Jeep owner or not - this book is a MUST have!

That said, I was looking for a book for an almost five-year-old. So, I purchased this one. However, it's definitely more for the 2 to 3-year-old range simply because there's not a story really involved. I thought this book was a little more involved story-wise when I purchased it, however, each page has these darling illustrations but only just a couple word sentences. I was quite disappointed because I thought since the reviews were so great that this was a nice story, written in the style of Dr. Seuss. I presumed it was a story, story, and not just a little ditty. It didn't hold the attention of the youngster for whom I purchased it so it will be sent back. If you have very young toddlers, then I highly recommend this book! It is very cute and well done.

Engaging illustrations render an effortless, fun and absolutely satisfying storytime. Couple this book with Mem Fox's "Where is the Green Sheep?" Give these books as a present to a young child or someone you know just learning to read English. You will be giving them the gift of reading. See also Sheep in a shop, Sheep out to eat, Sheep on a ship.

I bought this for my two year old because his Mema drives a Jeep and he is obsessed with cars. He gets such a kick out of this book and laughs everytime we get to the part where the "Jeep's in a heap". At first I didn't like that fact that it is written in fragments and not sentences, but that's my hang up. He likes it and that's who it's for!

My son and I picked this up at the library and ended up enjoying it enough to get a copy for ourselves along with copies of Sheep in a Shop and Sheep on a Ship. They're short, fun rhyming books with lovely illustrations.
