Series 7 Exam For Dummies (For Dummies (Career/Education))

In order to become a stockbroker and sell securities, you must first pass the Series 7 exam—a 6-hour, 250-question monstrosity. Unlike many standardized tests, the Series 7 exam is harder than it seems, and people who score below 70% must retake the test, having to wait at least a month before retaking it and paying hefty registration fees.

Luckily, there’s Series 7 Exam For Dummies—the perfect guide that not only shows you how to think like a financial advisor but also like the test designers. Rather than an all-encompassing, comprehensive textbook, this guide covers only what’s on the test, offering formulas, tips, and basic info you need to study. It empowers you with the ability to think each problem through and get to the bottom of what’s being asked, providing you with everything you need and want to know about:

  • Distribution of profits
  • Types of securities offerings
  • Investing in all types of stock
  • Bond types, prices, yields, and risks
  • Handling margin accounts
  • Characteristics of different investment companies
  • Direct Participation Programs and other types of partnerships
  • Option selling, buying, and trading
  • Security analysis and security markets

Packed with valuable information and know-how, this no-nonsense guide provides a full-length practice exam with answers and explanations. A bonus CD with another simulated practice test is also included. Whether you’re preparing to take the test for the first time or the fourth time, Series 7 For Dummies is the book for you!

Note: CD-ROM/DVD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of eBook file.

To pass the test: Bonds, Regulations, Accounts, and a few minor others, but definitely in that series. But ultimately a series of questions, a pocket of information.

An easy-to-understand review of the key test areas for Series 7 stockbrokers' exam. Very helpful for our trainees at http://www.superinvestor.net who are starting a career as a financial advisor and value investor.

This book is a great supplement to be used with other, more detailed study materials. I used it along with the STC materials. Read it once before you really start studying, and once again the week before the test. Good luck..you'll need it!

If you take this book for what it is, it can be a great tool. Don't think that this book is an all inclusive study manual for the Series 7. Only use it to supplement your other study materials. If you are getting to a point in your studies where you are starting to have trouble "seeing the forest through the trees", this is for you. This book helped me to take a step back for a second and really grasp the big picture of things. This book is not nearly detailed enough to be your stand alone study material, but is a very clear, simplistic overview of all the topics tested on the Series 7. Also, there are only two practices tests included with the CD. In my opinion, that is not nearly enough to help prepare for the test.

Don't get this book for use as your single source of study. For that matter, don't use any one book as your single source to prepare for this exhaustive exam. But do get this book to help you get an understanding of the concepts and build a basis for your studying. The book approaches all of the main topics of study in such a common sense and easy to understand way. I would and have recommended this book to everyone I know taking this exam. Okay, my recommendation is meaningless without results right? Well I took the exam just this morning for the first time ever and scored an 80. This book was a big part of that outcome. The exam on the CD is a bit easier than others but mirrored the actual exam and my score very closely.

I have read several different books & taken online tutorials for the series 7 & this book is way better. The author explains the topics in a way that makes sense! I am scheduled to take my test next month & feel confident that I am ready. I recommend this book to anyone studying for the exam (it never hurts to use more than one resource)!

Thank heaven for this book. I had previously failed the Series 7 with a 64 and I wasn't making any progress. I was studying out of a Passtrak book given to me by my firm. Not only did the Series 7 Exam for Dummies make everything easy to understand, it has test questions that are the closest to the real exam that I have seen (and I've seen a lot of them). Needless to say, I passed a couple of days ago with an 82. There is no way I would have been able to do it without this book. Save yourself a lot of time and aggravation by buying this book.

(Hide Review...)  Foolish Assumptions

When you assume, it makes an a** out of u and me. "I assume that you're looking for a no-nonsense study guide to supplement your textbook or prep course..."

Right off that bat I feel mislead. From the table of contents to what is implied about the subject matter, I have a problem with this book. It's not an all inclusive prep on practice exams (only two are provided) and it's obviously not a stand alone study guide. It's just somewhere in between that doesn't offer much. I mean if you're going to market this book as a test prep, then do it and just say so on the cover. If this is a super duper, one stop shop for all your Series 7 needs then just say so on the cover. Some of the material will probably be familiar to most people interested in the stock market. But your average Joe, like myself, will not be adequately prepared unless exposed to a more in depth look into subjects as complicated as Options, Bonds, Corporate Ownership, Debt securities, etc. Also it claims to make me a better test taker. What the h*** is so hard about choosing 'a' through 'all of the above'?!? Either you know the material, or you don't. Right now I'm looking for material. Sorry to be so harsh. In all fairness, it has a decent Cheat Sheet which I would only consider buying if it was laminated.

This is an excellent book, written in a clear & concise manner. Thank God the author breaks everything down for you and thank God he recommends study materials that you should be using in conjunction with his book. I hadn't a clue as to how to approach preparing for this exam. Now, I feel I'll be not only be ready, but I'll have an excellent chance of acing the 7. This book is a must-have for anyone studying for the Series 7 exam!!!
