I am a huge fan of Lisa Kleypas. I have read EVERY book she has written. She is an exceptional writer that takes the reader on a journey that is unforgettable. This book is no exception, and in my opinion its one of her best. Kev and Win were always destined to be together and the journey Ms. Kleypas carried them on was heart-stoppingly beautiful. This book was passionate and emotional. The tormented longing that Kev felt for Win and the yearning and love she felt for him was written with such poignancy and emotional depth that it made my heart ache with tears. Even though I have finished reading this book, the emotional remnants are still with me. It was a beautifully written romantic story that will endear Lisa kleypas to me, always.

I love Lisa Kleypas and her writing style but every once in awhile she puts out a clunker and lets hope this one is it for a long, long time.

This was a story I wanted to love and started to really like but it sort of fell flat towards the middle. Truthfully there were times I laughed my behind off with the dialogue she crafted for Leo and Ms. Marks and look forward to (hopefully) reading their story in the future. And (and this is a huge AND) I commend Ms. Kleypas for tackling diverse characters but I feel in SMAS and Mine til' Midnight that her male heros were a bit diminished. I was greatly disappointed she choose to introduce their white Irish heritage in such a forceful way at the very end. It was almost as if she did not have confidence that a diverse character could be legitimized as a hero and also prove to be industrious, wealthy, loving and all of the other things we assume when we read about white-anglo heroes in romance novels. Constantly referring to Cam's heartfelt desire to lose his wealth reminded me of Lucy Ricardo in the I Love Lucy episode where Ricky forbids her from going to the casino in Monaco. She does anyway and when she find a chip on the floor she tosses it on the blackjack table, she keeps winning. Well if you know that episode and remember the silliness and buffoonery that occurs, that is sort of the way I felt she worked to portray Cam.

As for Kev and Win. I loved the idea of two people so oppositionally different waiting for each other to love, live and eventually ride off into the sunset. But come on people, can't we all just get along! The repeated yo-yoing of Win to Kev made me wonder if Ms. Kleypas herself got bored writing their story and substituted silliness for substance. His over-brooding, almost feral behavior made me at times wish Dr. Harrow had minored in psychology and would commit to some therapy sessions with Kev.

I am in no way put off by this effort from Ms. Kleypas. In fact I hope she puts out another such book, maybe ushering in a Spanish hero (wink, wink). My advice is to be fearless, it is what we fans have come to expect of you.

Another author suffering from the curse of the family series. I have really enjoyed some of LK's earlier 'one off' books but not all of the Wallflower books were equally good (Devil in Winter was my favourite)and now we are branching from the Wallflowers into a whole new but vaguely connected family - the Hathaways. Cam and Amelia's story I can't really remember much about and this one will probably be the same.

Seduce me at Sunrise was an easy read and a feel good read and a pleasant way to pass a few lazy hours but the story didn't really ever move me hugely. You are constantly told that Kev/Merripen is burning with intensity but I didn't really feel it. His conflict with himself never seemed terribly real or very necessary to me - I was as frustrated as Win by the time he finally carried her off over his shoulder.

There was plenty of information about the other family members and suggestions and hints that their stories are to come. Probably the next one is Leo and the governess and then Polly and then Bea.

Agree with the other reviewer that the plot twist at the end was not necessary, far too facile and predictable.

Lisa Kleypas fans will no doubt buy this book anyway but if it's your first time for Kleypas recommend some of her earlier books in particular Dreaming of You or Because you're Mine and the more recent Devil in Winter.

I like the book vey much-the plot, the character and the tension of the story. I wished they'd been married a little sooner and most of the book about more tension as man and wife, just like the other books. Anyway, I was cut short on the story about Leo and Miss Marks. It just faded towards the end of the book, and you wonder what happened there( AND I WAS FOLLOWING THAT PART!) If Miss Kleypas will be able to read this review, I would like to ask you to consider writing about Leo and Miss Marks in your future books. Leo was far the most sarcastic and insulting (LOL) among your heros so far but I think it would present a great love story... It reminds me quite of your book A devil in Winter. But this one would presebt a different challenge.

(Hide Review...)  I Love the Hathaway Family - book 2 of the series

The Hathaway family is so entertaining and it's so interesting to watch them grow and change. This is the story of Win and Merripen who have loved each other forever but due to Win's health they never acted on those feelings. In this book the author gives you some history of how Win and Merripen have developed into the current characters. Win returns home with one goal to live life and Kev Merripen is at the top of her list. Great novel, I love the Gypsy storyline and the characters from The Wallflower Series making a cameo.

I would also suggest; Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, Book 1) ,
Secrets of a Summer Night (The Wallflowers, Book 1), It Happened One Autumn (The Wallflowers, Book 2), The Devil in Winter (The Wallflowers, Book 3),Scandal in Spring (The Wallflowers, Book 4), A Wallflower Christmas

(Hide Review...)  Kev & Win's story is one of the best from Kleypas!
Reviewer Permalink
I am a big fan of Lisa Kleypas and have enjoyed her books. But this one stands out as one of her best becauwe it is about love, not just romance and not just physical attraction. That depth of emotion filled the book and made it so much better.

If you read "Mine Till Midnight," you know that Merripen (a gypsy taken in by the Hathaways when he was a boy) and Win have deep feelings for each other. In that book those feelings were smoldering under the surface but not expressed or acted upon. Win is frail and sickly after a bout with scarlet fever and Merripen is her protector. During that book, Merripen's first name is never disclosed.

This book begins two months after Cam and Amelia are married and Win is going to France to be treated by a doctor. Win tries to get Merripen (whose first name we now know is Kev) to admit his feelings for her and declares her love for him. They have a sizzling kiss but Kev pushes her away and denies his feelings so Win leaves for France.

Then the book goes back 12 years to when Kev was brought to the Hathaways after being left for dead by his tribe and we see the beginning of the love that binds Kev and Win. This section adds much to the book because it explains why Merripen acts the way he does and why he loves Win so much. Back at the present, Cam gives Kev the responsibility to oversee the rebuilding of the estate Leo inherited in the first book.

Win returns healthy after two years and Leo, who has been in France with her is also much improved emotionally from the first book. Win's new suitor also comes with them but Win still wants Kev and he still refuses to admit his love despite several more steamy kisses. He doesn't think he is worthy of her. The yearning between them is palpable.

The end of the book has several surprises that I won't give away. However, I think we know who will help Leo recover from mourning his fiance who died. It was a 2 hanky finale. I am really looking forward to the next books in this series!!

I really liked the story between Kev Merripen and Win the fragile sister from the Hathaways. I also liked the developing interest of Leo and Miss Marks the governess. The Hathaways, like the Wallflowers are here to stay and there is much more story line to cover. Not to give too much away but the connection between Kev and Cam finally come together. A sensitive, passionate love story well written. I've already read it twice. If anything it is better than Cam and Amelia's story. I recommend this book.

Simply the best romance novel I've read all year. Kleypas is to be given absolute "props" for writing a sequel that's better than it's predecessor in the series: and for creating characters with such freshness and depth, after writing so many prior novels in the same genre and era.

(Hide Review...)  Kleypas at her finest!
Reviewer Permalink
As an avid fan of Lisa Kleypas, I have to say that this book far exceeded even my expectations. While I enjoy everything she writes, I think this book is one of her finest.

For a number of years, Kleypas has displayed her proficiency at telling a gripping story. Her historical novels are spicy and fun while at the same time grounded with a gritty reality that gives them a maturity not often found in the genre. As she has ventured into contemporary novels, her characterization has really blossomed, as has her humor.

This book was the best of all worlds. It has the spice and grit of her previous historicals and the humor and characterization of her contemporaries. I have to admit that when we met Win and Kev in the first Hathaway book, I wasn't terribly excited at the prospect of them having their own story. But I trust Kleypas, so I picked the book up and read it. It is a brilliantly well rounded novel with some incredibly touching and laugh out loud funny moments.

It's hands down the best book I've read all year.

This was romance at its best. Truly romantic. Kev is the ultimate tortured hero who loves Win from the first moment they meet as children. Win is his soul mate. The chemistry was perfect.

I liked that the whole Hathaway family was part of the story. More character development for successive books in the series. I was glad to read more about Cam and Amelia because I didn't remember Mine Till Midnight too well - with a year between publishings. It made the family story much more cohesive.

I don't know how Kleypas will be able to top or even equate the next book with Leo as the hero, but I'll be looking forward to it.

In a previous book, Win (the Heroine) was so sickly and appeared so fragile, I couldn't imagine how she could be a heroine of her own book. Well, this book fixed that. Win went abroad to a special health camp/spa in France and was cured. She and Kev have always had a strong physical attraction and emotional attachment to each other, but for reasons unrevealed till later, Kev thought she would be better off without him. They have a lot of hot get together/push her away scenes.
Equally fascinating and suspenseful is the relationship between Kev and Cam Rohan. A book worth reading.

How do I even begin to explain how wonderfully well written "Seduce Me At Sunrise" is? The story of Winnifred Hathaway and Kev Merripen is one filled with intense longing and unspent passion that leaps out of the pages to engage the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride. As in book one of the Hathaway series "Mine Until Midnight",where we see the slightly repressed Ameila fall hopelessly in love with the seductive Cam (this is also where we first experience Kev and Win's connection) Lisa not only gives you a delicious story about our two lovers but also introduces you to the series next couple (Leo and the bookish governor Ms. Marks....SWEET...LOL)

(Hide Review...)  10 STARS - WHAT A MAGNIFICENT AND POIGNANTLY BEAUTIFUL STORY!!!!!!
Reviewer Permalink
Sorry - my review is long - but there are so many facets to this book that it cant just be given the 3 paragraph rule!! :-D

I have always devoured Lisa Kleypas books. She is a magnificent Romance writer with an uncanny ability to make you laugh and weep at the level of compassion and beauty of her novels.

In the first Hathaway novel - MINE TILL MIDNIGHT - I was captivated with how Win and Merripen meet and after reading Amelia and Cam's story, I was hoping that Miss Kleypas would indulge us with Win and Merripen's story! I loved Cam and Amelia's story but I have to admit that SEDUCE ME AT SUNRISE is a magnificent and beautifully written poignant romance that will leave a glow in your heart and a misty tear in your eye!

Kev Merripen was rescued by the Hathaway family when he was a young lad and was left for dead after his Rom tribe was attacked by Gadjos. Kev is like a wild animal - he has endured unbelievable cruelties from his uncle and doesn't want any form of kindness from these people - all he wants to do is get well so he can flee. The moment he lays eyes on Win Hathaway, it is love at first sight and that is the beginning of a magnificent and tumultuous love story.

The book starts with Win's departure to a clinic in France, where she is supposed to stay for an extended period of time to partake of a miraculous treatment that will make her well. She has also been in love with Kev for so many years and hopes to reclaim her heath so she can have a life with Kev.

The book has an amazing flashback which will tear at your heart of how both Kev and Win meet and how she tames his wildness in their younger years. A bout of scarlet fever almost claims Leo (Win's older brother) and Win. It is Kev that saves them both and is a tower of strength to Ameila - who cares for them during their illness. It is during that bout of illness that Win's health is compromised and she never fully recovers.

Win and Leo depart for France - Leo has become a shadow of his former self as he lost Laura - the love of his life to the fever as well. Four long years have passed since Win's departure - she has undergone treatment and has had a miraculous recovery - no longer is she the frail and fragile waif that left. She is glowing with health and has become a stunningly beautiful woman.

Since her departure - which almost drove Kev mad - he became immersed in the repair of the Hathaways country estate where he has labored long and hard these past four years. When Kev finally sees Win - he is stunned by how beautiful she is, how much he has missed her and how deeply and desperately he loves her.

Win's return to England is coupled with the French doctor that made her well. Not only have they developed a nice friendship but he wants to marry Win. Kev realizes that and even though he wants no-one around his precious Win, he still feels he is not good enough for her and unworthy to claim her as his own. Not only is Kev a Rom but he knows that he will never be good enough for Win and that is the main conflict in their story.

Their relationship is turbulent and vibrant - Win is not afraid to meet Kev's objections head on and is a wonderful and vibrant heroine. You feel so deeply for Kev and his inner turmoil at wanting Win but knowing he will never have her.

Unlike MINE TILL MIDNIGHT, where the book overly centered in the whole Hathaway family, SEDUCE ME AT SUNRISE revolves around Kev and Win and their struggles to make their love triumphant. Although the family is around them rallying to bring them together, it is charming to see their interaction at how closely bonded they are as a family. This was one of Kleypas' more memorable novels and one that will stay in your heart and mind for quite a while, as well as in your keeper shelf! WHAT A GEM!!!!

(Hide Review...)  Fabulous sequel...couldn't put it down
Reviewer Permalink
I finally finished it last night. I LOVED it. Loved, loved, loved. It still isn't as good as Derek Craven's book and Alex and Lily's book (my two favorites, obviously), but I loved it. Part of the reason I loved it so much is I really didn't care for the last book. Very disappointing, as Cam was one of my favorite heroes. In my opinion, he got a dud of a heroine. I think Amelia is super annoying. Blech. But anyways, I was hooked into this book almost right away. That hotel scene. Woooh. I couldn't put the book down after that. I even got up at 5am to read before work. I loved Kev's inner thoughts regarding Win, especially when they were younger. I was hoping that he'd eventually share that with her. The things he thought about Win were so romantic and beautiful. I was very touched. That's what I love in a romance novel...romance! So many books get caught up with mystery and lust (which I don't mind), but I really just want the flowery, lovely words that get my heart fluttering, and Kev had that...er...but just in his head. I'm still not a fan of Leo and was really hoping he and Ms. Marks would just have a sub plot romance in the book. I don't think he can carry his own, although with all the side characters from past books, it'll be worth it.
I've also been wondering how LK is doing all this. How many books does she put out a year??? She has the modern ones and the Wallflowers and the Hathaways. Every time I turn around there's another LK book.
Anyways, glad I could finally put my two cents in:)

OK - I love Lisa Kleypas and Mine till Midnight is one of my favourites. Seduce me at Sunrise had me interested the moment I read the teaser chapter online and it was a good read. I enjoyed the story and learning more about the Hathaway family (especially Leo who stole the show), and will without a doubt enjoy reading the rest of the Hathaway series when available.
...BUT it just did not live up to its fabulous presecessor, Mine Till Midnight (which I absolutely adored!), I felt like half the book was already over (there were numerous flashbacks) and the romance and passion was seriously lacking - it felt clinical and cold. Though I loved Win and Kev in the first book, I just didn't feel much for them in this one. So overall a good read, a nice stepping stone to I hope, something better! Roll on Leo's story....

(Hide Review...)  engaging Victorian romance
Reviewer Permalink
In 1836 the English attack a Gypsy camp. The youngster Kev Merripen tried to fight, but was knocked in the head by the butt of a rifle and stabbed in the back by a bayonet. His tribe fled leaving him behind to die. A hated Gadjo the Hathaway patriarch saves his life though Kev's disdain would have someone think otherwise. Filled with gypsy superstitions, Kev is raised in the home of a rationalist. However, his host's daughter Winifred softens his hostile outlook. Kev loves Win who is sent to France to recover from an illness.

A dozen years later she comes home only to find her childhood friend angry and nasty towards her and seemingly everyone else. He tries to drive her away even as she only shows him kindness. Win knows she loves her gypsy and considers seduction to win his heart. However, she begins to give up on him leaving room for other suitors as Kev struggles between his desire for Win and his belief that a Gadjo and Romany cannot unite even in love.

Lisa Kleypas' latest Victorian romance (see MINE TILL MIDNIGHT and THE DEVIL IN WINTER) is an engaging tale starring a wonderful extremely tolerant female and a somewhat self defeating hero. Kev is the posterboy for the self fulfilling prophecy as he assumes the worst of others so takes no chances on his heart. Readers will appreciate the determined Win trying to persuade the obstinate Kev they belong together although his stubbornness can become a trifle frustrating.

Reviewer Permalink
While I enjoyed reading Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, Book 1), the first book in Kleypas' The Hathaways Series, I felt that the romance was lacklustre and the result mediocre in comparison to her other historical. Yet, there was something about this unconventional family that drew me in. I felt that I had to read what happens to the rest of them especially to Win and Kev after being tantalized by the hint of forbidden love in the first book.

Before he was adopted by the Hathaways, Kev Merripen has only ever known violence. Despised by his uncle, he was punished and beaten for the simplest mistake. Raised like a savage creature, his only purpose was to fight, steal and do as his uncle commanded. Then one day, his tribe was attacked by Englishmen who wanted to scourge his Gypsy tribe from their land. Kev tried to fight them but he was stabbed and badly beaten. His tribe left him for dead. Then a Good Samaritan rescued and took him in. Kev found a family. And there he found his love.

From the time he came to live with them, Winnifred has been fascinated by the Gypsy boy. To her, he was an untamed creature in need of nurturing. The fascination grew stronger and they grew up sharing an unbreakable bond. When she was struck with the scarlet fever, Kev stood by her and brought her from the brink of death. But she was weakened by the disease. For years she lived as an invalid dreaming of things she couldn't do and of things she couldn't have - one of them was living a normal life with the man she loved. Then she was given the chance to live life to the fullest. However, what she wanted most seemed out of reach. How can she slip past the iron-clad solitude of this mysterious man? Would Kev continue to shun the promise of a shared lifetime with the very person who saved his soul? Will they overcome their inner fears and face a future fraught with much difficulty?

SEDUCE ME AT SUNRISE is a heart-warming tale of forbidden love. Lisa Kleypas has penned a story with bold characters that leap off the pages. She delivers wonderful characterization, delving deep into their mindset that you feel an affinity with them. Kev and Win are typical Kleypas characters. Indeed, thier love story somewhat reminded me of Dreaming of You. Just like Derek Craven, Kev is a man who has come far yet continues to suffer by denying himself the very thing he hungers for, while Win sees a man greatly in need of love. And she also knows that behind that great mask of toughness is a man capable of so much feeling.

I do believe that this is the most passionate story that Kleypas has written in a while and I really wanted to see more of Kev and Win. However, there is a lot of involvement by the Hathaways and I felt that Kleypas has used this book to continue with Cam and Amelia's story, therefore we got to see less of Kev and Win. Yet rest assured that every moment with them was poignant and memorable. And despite my aforementioned quibble about the attention given to the Hathaways, I enjoyed reading about them so much and their antics just made me adore them more. Kleypas also entices by giving us glimpses of what's in store for Leo. I cannot wait for his story.

Since i first read Mine till Midnight i was captivated by Winn and Kev story. Lisa has delivered another sensational story that will make you smile even when you are far done with the book. I got to say that Kleypas is one of my favorties authors, not to say the # 1!!! she has this way of writing so real and believable that there comes a time that you are so trapped into the story that you don't want to go back to reality.

I absolutely fell in love with Kev. He so possesive with Winn, so careful, and their love is so palpable that someone would have to be blind not see how much they love/want each other. One of the reasons why i love lisa is because of her ability to create such vivid romances. the chemestry she delivers on her characters are extremely real!!!! you can FEEl the characters falling madly in love, FEEL their passion, their emotions, their sadness, their happiness. I'm a very hard-to-please reader when it comes to romances; for me to READ a book has to really make me feel and believe in the situationg going on. That's why everytime Kleypas has a new book out, i don't even waste time on the reviewe, she is one the the few authors that had NEVER dissapointed me, on the contrary, her books are my favorites on the shelf!!!!

As a long standing fan of Lisa Kleypas' work I anticipated the release of this book with much impatience. I longed for the back story of Win and Merripen to be told. We were introduced to the half gypsy Rom, Merripen in Mine Until Midnight. We anticipated Win and Merripen's love to flame out of control. But when one places such great esteem in two characters you fear a novel can't live up to your expectations, but not in this case. Seduce me at Sunrise is flawlessly written. It answers all questions the reader had about this mysterious Rom, and produces some surprises one could never imagine. It makes the reader laugh, cry, and sigh. Congratulations once again to Ms. Kleypas- she never disappoints.

...Lisa Kleypas, that is. I loved the first book in the series, "Mine Til Midnight" and I'm happy to report that this book is every bit as good as the first.

I confess, I was worried that I wouldn't like the two lead characters, Win and Kev, as much as I absolutely adored Cam and Amelia. Kev was such a dark character, and Win had that ethereal, too good to be true quality in the first book. I'm so pleased to see that LK was able to add different dimensions to each of them, resulting in two very compelling people. I'll confess that I still prefer Cam to Kev, but I now understand why Win loved him all those years.

So why four stars instead of five? Unlike some other reviewers, I loved the way the whole Hathaway clan barged in and out of Cam and Amelia's stories and rather missed the added texture that those family interactions added to the character development in the first book. The lack, I believe, resulted in a sense of disconnection between Kev and the Hathaways. And the whole mysterious tattoo storyline and appearance of the long-lost relative in the final nine pages of the book were entirely predictable.

But all in all, this is a lovely book - sweet, sensuous and filled with excellent dialogue between interesting characters. And while the book stands quite well on its own, it is best enjoyed as a sequel to "Mine 'Til Midnight."

Thank you, Ms. Kleypas, for returning to your historical romance roots after those two contemporary disasters you published last year. Welcome back, we missed you.

When Mine Till Midnight came out, I was pretty happy to see that Cam Rohan was going to get his own story. And now, Merripen. I loved this book because Merripen has been in love with Win for years and she him but, of course, he doesn't feel he's good enough for her. Their love story is really very beautiful and I loved that Cam and Amelia were all over in this story too. The whole book is really good and hard to put down and I can't wait for #3. Will it be Leo?

Ms. Kleypas appears to return to her writings of the past with "Seduce Me At Sunrise". I was very enthralled with the story of Win and Kev (Merripen).
Win's family took in Merripen (a gypsy) at an early age, and he grew up essentially with Win...that was the only part I found a little bizzare as they grew up like siblings, yet she had a great love for him. Win was afflicted with the Scarlet Fever and had to be sent to recooperate, but of course told Merripen of her affection prior to leaving. When Win returns she finds a very changed Kev who has been determined that his past will not allow him to care for another. It is up to Win to break this wall that he has built up.
I think this work that Kleypas has written has really shown the strength that she has to write, and highlights some of the weaknesses of some of the most recent works. I am a little anxious to see if her upcoming work "Wallflower Christmas" has the ability to carry the same strengths. Sometimes when these works are released in succession it is difficult for quality works to be produced.

After I read this book I went back and re-read my favorite parts. It was great! I loved the characters of Merripen and Win and I just wanted their story to go on and on forever. My only complaint is that the epilogue didn't go further into the future. Merripen has that tortured soul thing going and I love that he has secretly pined for Win since they were children. I just loved everything about this book. Snatch up all of Lisa Kleypas' books, you won't be disappointed.

!!!A question to all of Lisa's biggest fans!!! She has written so many books and it's impossible to remember them all but wouldn't you agree the storyline in this book mirrors, almost exactly to one of her earlier ones? The whole time I was reading "Seduce Me At Sunrise" I felt like I've read it before. Did any of you feel that way too? Okay, so for my review...I have to agree with a few other comments about this book. It was good but not that great. Lisa is one of my Top 5 authors and I always expect (and usually get) total greatness from her. The story for me was a little weak. I've read all of her books and for the first time ever I really didn't get attached to the characters, although I was so happy to get updated on the Westcliffs, Hunts, Cam and Amelia. So yes I'm pushing it giving the book 4 Stars, but I can't bring myself to give Kleypas anything less.

(Hide Review...)  Another intensely passionate love story
Reviewer Permalink
A beautifully fragile woman has always loved the handsome, dark and brooding "gypsy" raised in their home. He has always loved her, but believing his dark past is a danger to her, has never allowed himself to touch or dream of her.

In Seduce Me... you are captivated by Win's drive to conquer her frailty and Kev's intense love for Win. You can feel their need for one another sometimes before they realize it themselves. There is no question as to will they or won't they, as they always do. The marvel is the how and the moment in which they finally do. Explosive.

As always, we are rewarded with cameos from past favorite characters, a glimpse of a future romance, and very steamy love scenes. This book will be hard to put down.

Lisa Kleypas is, if not the best, certainly one of the best historical romance writers of our time. I admit to having read too many of the regency era romances. Kleypas can weave an intensely passionate love story like no other. I don't know how she manages to capture our hearts each and every time, but I am certainly glad she does. I cannot wait to see how the other Hathaways find their true loves.

Other recommendations: Kleypas' Wallflower series, especially my favorite, The Devil in Winter. The Devil in Winter (The Wallflowers, Book 3)

Another great book. I really enjoy watching as Kleypas's writing evolves and grows more interesting.

She's the kind of writer who savors each word. Each scene has a texture, a quality of light and an emotional tone. The characters are a lot of fun.

The eccentric Hathaway family is a pleasure to read about. Their characerization is fresh. They are really loveable because of their "quirks". I think Kleypas did a great job creating a family that could so easily mesh with a totally different culture--the Rom. THey are hands down my favorite "romance novel" family. The most genuine and funniest for sure.

The only weaknesses of the story comes from the romance genre itself--the villan, the need for a straightforward conclusion in which all questions are answered, etc. (Though I'm not complaining).

Kleypas is a master writer and I'd follow her anywhere. I think it says a lot about her ability that she continues to produce consistently fabulous writing in a genre littered with books that aren't fit for publication and authors who seem to get burnt out.

Thanks again Lisa Kleypas!

After waiting for what seemed like forever for this book, I could not put it down. Merripen and Win finally got what they wanted. I liked the ups and downs and I really liked the background and cultural references to the Rom language. It was a fun read. I really liked the last few paragraphs and the fact the Win was following in some of Merripens heritage. Two things were hysterical, the ferret with the garter and the fire in the cabinet. Laughed outloud. Cant wait for the next book - May Leo find his story...

"Sunrise" was touching, emotional, steamy, romantic...everything you could ask for in a romance novel. Kev was a wonderful, strong, sexy and emotional hero. Win and Kev had great chemistry and I truly believed in their love and story. Keep up the good work, Ms. Kleypas!

This book is a good as the first book 'Mine Till Midnight'. That doesn't always happen, but i'm happy to say it does in this book. I loved Merripen and Win's love story. I find devestatingly dark and handsom Gypsy's irrisistable enough, but add to that a tormented sole (and not because of a woman) who doesn't feel like he belongs anywhere because of who he is, and what he was, before being left for dead after a Gypsy hunt. But then he was found and taken in by the Hathaway family and meets Win(Winifred), whom his soul is irriversibly drawn to. She is everything he isn't. She is a soothing balm to his tortured soul, and his salvation. But Merripen doesn't see himself as worthy of her(on many levels), and wont let his feelings for Win blind him into thinking there could ever be anything more. But he cant make himself leave either, so he stays with the Hathaways to be with her, if only as a friend and someone to look out for her. Winnefred is also drawn to Merripen ( who wouldn't be?). He's everything she isn't. But she cant help but want him, to want to heal his soul, and the only way she knows how is to love him, be his friend, and never give up on him. Now, I know a few reviews complained that they felt Merripen and Win's story didn't seem like the main story, but I assure you, it was. Yes, Mrs. Kleypas did invlove the other characters quit a bit in this book( both books actually), but I actually found myself more drawn to the book because of that. It gave the book more depth, you got more of a connection with the story as a whole because there were more characters to love, and I found that with more characters to love, the more your gonna like the book and want to read it, the more your gonna find yourself impatient to want to read the other characters stories. I say the more characters to enjoy in a book the merrier, and this book has plenty of characters to enjoy. I have to say though, even though I adored all the Hathaways and their quirks, my favorite is the youngest one, Beatrix. She's absolutely adorable!!! This book is a keeper for me and I hope Mrs. Kleypas writes about the rest of the Hathaways; Leo,Poppy, and Beatrix. I'll be the first in line to buy the books!! And if you haven't read the first book 'Mine Till Midnight', I highly reccomend doing so.
I gave it 4 stars only because for me it took a little too long for them to get together, but thats just me. It's a great story and I absolutely loved it !!!!!

Simply stated this is a truly lovely story. I was hooked right from the beginning. I had read the prequel to this novel and was already familiar with Kev and Win, nevertheless I would have been totally engrossed if I had not read Mine Till Midnight. I simply love the characters in this novel and not just the leads but especially the younger Hathaway sisters, but this is Win and Kev's love story and they really shine.

Win has never really recovered from scarlet fever. She is weak, fragile and tired of feeling that way, she wants to embrace life so she decides to go to a French clinic to restore her health. Her one regret is leaving Kev, the man she has loved for years.

There are so many ways to describe Kev, controlled, resigned, honorable and protective. He is alpha male and tortured hero, so desperately in love with Win that I immediately felt his longing. As a gypsy who was taken in by Win's family as a boy, he feels like an outsider but also as a member of the family too. His past is haunted by violence and he had little love and affection. Win has always been the gentling influence in his life. This was apparent from their first meeting as he recuperated in the Hathaway home. Even then Kev knew how special she was and desired to be in her presence. She is calm, serene and incredibly compassionate and loving, a counterpoint to his secretive, and wary nature.

Win returns to England recovered from her illness and with her handsome Doctor in tow also. Her encounter with Kev after her two year absence is incredibly passionate, lusty and steamy. In fact, whenever these two are in each others' arms it is spontaneous combustion.

Win wants Kev desperately but again he feels totally unworthy of her and furthermore wonders if he could really trust himself around her with his violent past. He is now the estate manager of her brother's lands and doing a wonderful job of it too.

I don't know who I liked more in this novel Kev or Win. I loved that Win was determined to chart her own course, she was sweet, kind and above all she didn't fall into the too stubborn category. Kev was deep with a scarred soul that opens up around the Hathaway family but blooms around Win. His protective barriers start to crumble not only with Win butalso with other members of the family.

There's a bit if a mystery in this novel with Kev's past that I figured out rather quickly. It is not a detraction from the story at all but really fleshed out Kev's past and his future. Characters from the previous novel play a big part in this novel. I didn't find it terribly distracting as I especially liked Cam from Mine till Midnight. I heartily recommend this book; it is passionate, heartwarming and compelling, I can hardly wait for the next Hathaway story.

(Hide Review...)  Despite some complaints, I really liked it
Reviewer Permalink
Reading through the other reviews, I found I agreed with many who had complaints. I also thought Kev's stubbornness was tiresome and the false-start passion was overdone. But unlike some, I enjoyed the vast majority of the story.

One thing I would have liked to have was a scene or two of the main characters simply talking. Just *being* together. In the current time of this story rather than a flashback. I felt their chemistry in 'Mine Till Midnight' and in the flashback, but nothing for the timeframe we're focused on. Every time we had some interaction it seemed they ended up in a steamy embrace and then an abrupt disengagement. Even when they argued they managed to become sexual. It undercut the poignance of their relationship that was introduced in the previous book. I found myself depending on those scenes between Win and Merripen from 'Mine Till Midnight' to infuse all the compatibility I felt I was missing.

That said, I liked the book as a whole. I actually liked the scenes between Cam and Amelia, even though they've already had their book. They grounded the story nicely. Cam and Merripen were hinted to be linked in 'Mine Till Midnight' so it seemed appropriate to provide the entire dynamic and it was handled well, I thought.

I suppose Leo will be the next to have a book. I thought his development was excellent. In the last book, I truly wouldn't have minded if he hadn't made it, but in this installment I thought his presence was crucial. His humor and thoughtful observations were perfectly timed and effective within the story line.

As with all series, it's important to keep the reader interested in finding out what happens to the rest of the featured characters. Poppy and Beatrix are also great, specific characters and I hope we get to see what kind of mates they snare.

The Hathaways are a very fun, unique family that lends itself to stories that are different from the typical romantic plots. I'm looking forward to reading about all their romantic mishaps, adventures and triumphs.

Well, I thought Seduce Me at Sunrise was an awesome book. Ever since Lisa introduced us to Cam Rohan in The Devil in Winter, I was hoping for a book about him. And we got an excellent one where we met Amelia, Win, Merripen, Poppy, Leo, etc. After Mine Till Midnight, I was fascinated by the Hathaway family. This is an entertaining read and I couldn't put the book down. I like the family environment of the Hathaways and enjoy their interactions. I thought the book started out very strong and early on I was thinking "Oh yeah. This is going to be one of Kleypas' great ones." However, I felt that Win's character got lost along the way - meaning the evolution and development of her character seemed to halt shortly after she arrived home from her treatment. The focus on the rest of the family may have been at the expense of her character. I believe there should have been a little more mention of her cure and the changes in her while at treatment, and then more about her feelings and her changes after she returned, endearing the reader more to her. It seemed a bit superficial after the return.

Another thing that seemed a little off to me was the lack of deep emotional response by all to the revelation of the connection between Cam and Kev. It was deserving of much more than was written. And the revelation to everyone else other than Amelia and Win was a bit muddled. This was not a disclosure that deserved such a lackluster and muted response by all. Additionally, I'm not sure I understood the motivation of Harrow to want Win so much. If, as implied by other characters, he wanted arm candy, that wouldn't lead to the level of ultimate reaction by him. What takes place also seemed inconsistent with one so devoted to helping and healing others. We learned the motivation behind what happened in his first marriage but I didn't see the parallel to his relationship with Win.

What I liked was that the reader never doubts the love between Kev and Win. He loves her with all that he is and she has loved him as long as she has known him. In the beginning, it's actually palapable. There were some absolutely touching and beautiful moments between the pair. Also in the beginning, the depth of her pain and circumstances made Win seem so real. I wanted to know her on that level throughout the entire book.

They always say when you're writing a review don't compare the book to other books the author has written. This is where the review gets tough for me. I love the poetic rhythm with which Kleypas has the ability to write. I was a little disappointed that I really didn't find that flow of words in this book. So, if I am comparing Lisa Kleypas to Lisa Kleypas, this is not one of the most memorable for me. However, if I am simply judging the book as a worthy read, it is, and you won't want to put it down. I am looking forward to Leo's story as well.

Reviewer Permalink
Merripen, the quiet and mysterious Romany, has lived with the Hathaways since his youth. Found badly injured and near death he was taken into the open loving arms of this quirky and unconventional family. Ignoring his background and the backlash of the village, Merripen was treated like a brother to the four other children. But he did not stay because he had found a family for no matter what they thought a Rom would never really be one of them ( a gadjo) nor did he want to be. What he wanted, and stayed for, was Win. For since the first moment he saw her his life had changed and a deep connection was formed. Though he could never allow himself to have Winifred, and taint her with his ugliness, he would protect her with his life while keeping her at a distance. Winifred Hathaway, on the other hand, has one goal in mind -to catch the man she has loved forever. Finally, after years away in a clinic in France, she has returned to England completely recovered. No longer the invalid, Win is tired of being treated like a butterfly under the glass. Merripen protects and cherishes her but doesn't touch -afraid he'll hurt or spoil her perfection with his sordid past. But Win wants to be his woman, his wife. Could Merripen have finally pushed her too far away? Kept her at such a distance that she''ll turn to another man?

Great book, signature Kleypas -engaging couple, superb plotting, solid writing and sinfully steamy. Win and Kev (Merripen) are well matched even though they are physically polar opposites. He's the great big, dark dangerously smoldering Rom of few words and she's the delicate/fragile angelic blond with a cool exterior. Underneath lie two complex characters who love each other deeply and must get past many hurdles to get to a HEA ending. Their roller coaster romance teased me tortiously and gripped me from beginning to end. Really an excellent example of star-crossed lovers.

I do though have some minor complaints. Some portions of this book could have been called Mine Till Midnight Part II for all the attention that Cam and Amelia get (and the rest of the family too). And the mysterious tattoos and Kev's and Cam's connection were less than shocking and downright predictable. And I'm not a fan of the prettily wrapped up plot twist in the end either (especially if its not believable). It was not necessary and, I think, diluted the overall effect of the story. I would have been happier if Klyepas had left things as they were, it would have made for a far more interesting ending. These parts did not however distract in ANY way from the fantastic heart warming romance. Frankly I couldn't get enough of Win and Kev.

So this sequel to Mine Till Midnight (The Hathaways, Book 1) is a keeper IMHO. And I, for one, can't wait till Leo and the "Grim Reaper" (LOL!) governess get their own book.

"Seduce Me At Sunrise" is one of the most passionate and emotionally intense historical romances I've written in years"... this is what Lisa Klypas posted on her blog. Intense and passionate?? I must have missed this part in the book! Give me Derek and Sarah, Evie and St. Vincent, Nick and Charlotte; I could go on and list
almost every book she has ever written.

For years Ms. Kleypas was my Number One favorite author, I am sad to say that has changed. It's seems that Ms. Kleypas has decided to put more of her energies into her contemporary books. (I am not overly impressed with them either) and less focus into her historical. Man, I am so bummed!!

I know this review is choppy... I deleted most of it because I just went off on a tangent. I had such high hopes that this book would live up to the excerpt that was posted on her website and am sooooooo upset that I am disappointed.

The story line was choppy and erratic; her usual smooth writing was not evident. I did not see well defined characters in Win and Kev. Kev spent most of his life with the Hathaway's, you would think a little of their eccentricity and their wonderfully open way of seeing the world would have rubbed off on him a bit. Up until he decides he is actually going to claim Win as his (3/4 of the way through the book) Kev is a hard nosed, grumpy not to likeable character. Win was lovely, sweet, strong character: Until she decides, after being back home only a short amount of time, that Kev will always be like he is and she accepts the proposal of another man. Her stregnth dissapated rather quickly.

Cam and Amelia already had their book - And it looks like Wins' brother Leo will be having his. Maybe even her sisters... I don't know. There were so many other story lines going on. Ugh! I didn't like this book at all.

I'm not sure what just happened here - I wrote an entire page-length review on this book earlier today, and now it is missing!
I can't even bring myself to try and re-write it, so I will just say that I really enjoyed this book. READ IT! Kleypas makes her wonderfully, refreshingly real characters and plot come to life. I was totally on-board with the hero and heroine, even though that was my main concern when I started this book in the first place - Win being too "sweet" and too "delicate", and also maybe a little TSTL, and that Kev would be unrealistic in his need to hold out against Win, but Kleypas sold it!
