This book is a very good compilation of SEAL mission Profiles. Plenty of new and updated information and pictures; not just the same old contemporary photographs seen in every other Special Operations book.

For anyone interested in the U.S. Navy Seals this is only a snap shot of what they have done. Nevertheless, there is some great information in this book.

I found this book to be a great model for anyone who would even consider The Navy's elite training and lifestyle. The introduction of BUD/S is a very detail oriented on what exactly these men have to go through just to carry the SEAL trident. With that in mind the personal acounts given by SEALs themselfs gives great imagery on the strenous activity and dedication focused on the team aspect in BUD/S three phases in becoming a SEAL.
The whole process can be summed up with a couple of words from SEALS themselfs: "The only easy day was yesterday" Overall a good depiction on what type of Men it takes to be a SEAL and the special tatics used by the best. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-05-03 01:32:10 EST)

This book is a good appetizer to the world of Navy Seals, from their training to their deployment in special missions around the globe. It covers a few interventions from Panama in '89 to Ramadi, Irak in 2006. The best parts are those where the soldiers themselves speak and describe what they did and how things went. Compared to the soldiers' talking the rest looks weak and boring. The author gets too muddled in technical and administrative stuff, which most readers won't care for. The book's bindging is solid and nice, well furnished with photographs that unfortunately cannot show faces of soldiers.
The best book out there on Navy Seals. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-04-24 19:48:57 EST)

Not the same old history lesson and file photos we're used to seeing, this book is a fresh report on the activities, accomplishments, and equipment of Naval Special Warfare in recent times.
Using the words of the authors, along with the first-person accounts and photos of other veteran SEAL Operators, these writings bring us up to date on an elite fighting force brought into the public's consciousness just in the last two decades. The authors were very careful to preserve the honor of the mission and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in its pursuit. This is a must-have for any SpecOps, military history, and GWOT buff. It's an especially powerful read for any aspiring Navy SEAL. God bless ALL of those who sacrifice to preserve our freedoms. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-03-22 20:28:38 EST)

Modern warfare has created a more sophisticated and dedicated elite fighter, who has unbelievable skills, utilized every day in combat. World War II had Underwater Demolition Technicians (UDT) and these brave men were replaced by inclusion of new duties performed as U S Navy SEALS, (SEa, Air and Land) which refers to methods of insertion and ability to perform missions in these environments.
Training of high caliber crusaders is extremely complex and rigorous. Those who go through the initial training phase called BUD/S find that the attrition rate is 75 to 80%. This is a 6 month training cycle followed by 6 months probation before receiving the Navy Special Operations designation, the Budweiser (Trident). This is only the start as they go on to further cycles such as Jump School, HALO training, Ranger Training, Army Special Forces training, and SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape). The class of 1989 donated a class gift as a motto for UDT/Seal Training "The only easy day was yesterday". Interviews with Seals point out that before 9/11, these men were in a readiness limited- combat-status. Since 9/11 they have served gallantly and with distinction. Many medals have been awarded such as the Congressional Medal of Honor and heroics of the recipients are discussed with reverence in explicit detail. Comments are intended to persuade young people to consider this elite fighting force as a career. However, becoming a SEAL has drawbacks, dangers, and rewards. In fact, Seal's recommend this book to those who want the military for their life's ambition. An informed decision is necessary before attempting to become a member of the over 15,000 who make up the history of this unique team. Few realize fighting currently taking place in Iraq and Afghanistan has been led by Navy Seals in positions of high risk where they are called upon first to be snipers securing areas which then can be occupied by Marine and Army personnel! This is a high-risk profession for men only. There are no women in the SEALs as it is too dangerous for them. A surprising concluding statement ends with "Almost all the Navy SEALs believe that the United States cannot win the war on terrorism. Not one offered a solution." Further, "There is no magic ball to foretell the future. Americans can take pride in their armed forces who have always served their country faithfully. Our soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen are not only warriors but are also our ambassadors and we ought to remember that no military can win any war without clear-cut political objectives." Some sketchy anecdote, nice pics, but otherwise a load of recicled garbage. There's plenty of better books about SEALs out there, this one is not worth its price. I'd rather recommend buying Dick Couch's books on the subject.

The authors interviewed dozens of active-duty and retired SEALs and seemingly had access to the digital cameras they carried with them in combat. This is a visually stunning, riveting operational history of the U.S. Navy SEALs. It's the best book on the topic I've yet seen.

Bwaaaahhaaaahahaaaaa! U.S. Navy SEALs founded May 1, 1983? Whoever wrote the product description needs to check their facts before publishing that garbage! The SEALs were founded Jan. 1, 1962! Now DEVGRU (SEAL Team Six) was founded in October 1980 as a result of some of our failings dealing with terrorism in the 1970's. But either way the product description is wrong! FIX IT ASAP! Or else you are going to have some serious credibility issues with this book before people ever pick it up!

Absolutely a great book. Awesome photos of weapons and equipment. Detailed accounts of SEAL actions in the GWOT. And above all, a just tribute to some of America's finest warriors. My highest recommendation.

What better recommendation can a book on Navy SEALs have than that of Marcus Luttrell???? He even wrote an introduction. Seriously, although it doesn't say anything in the description, this book is chock full of hundreds of never-before-seen photos taken by actual Navy SEALs during their tours of duty. It's worth it for the pictures alone.
For anyone who has ever wondered what it would have been like to be a Navy SEAL, this book is an awesome introduction. It has first hand accounts of the legendary BUDS school and more first hand accounts from all major SEAL missions, going back to Panama all the way up to modern Iraq, including the story of the current SEAL sniper with the most confirmed kills in all of SOCOM. If you're at all interested in SEAL history, SEAL operations or what SEALs are doing in the War on Terror, you have to get this book. All of my military-obsessed friends are getting one for Christmas. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-24 12:45:36 EST)
