From the commanding heights of Edinburgh Castle and Ben Nevis to the rolling Lowlands of Dumfries, and from the Art Nouveau splendor of Mackintosh's Glasgow to the enchanting stillness of a Highland croft, you will find an amazing amount to see and do.

Very handy as we drove around. Hit the main highlights of every region and even some off the beaten track. Useful maps within each section helped to plan the day's events.

This read on Scotland is a good one, but I feel it could have done a better job of detailing information on Glasgow and Edinburgh. The images and content are great, but I just think it could have provided the reader with more information on Scotland's two largest cities. Worth the read though, especially if you're headed over anytime soon!

I have bought other books on traveling Scotland and this one is by far the best out of all of them. Full of detailed colorful pictures and suggested sites to visit. Wonderful book to look into!!!

After borrowing one from the library-we fell in love with this and found nothing but rave reviews. So, we had to have our own for our trip in June. We have not left for our trip yet, but we will be in great hands when we go. It was also recommended by friends who actually lived in Scotland for 2 years-it was their "life line" there.

We used in August . Found it to be of little value. One small example: By chance we visited the Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow. Truly a "must visit" museum. The guide book (revised version dated 2006) says it is closed for renovation. We were told that it had been reopened in 2005.

When we decided to go to Scotland, there was no question in our minds about buying the Eyewitness Scotland guide. Having used their guides to London, Great Britain, China, and Russia, we know that what we will read will be really useful to people like us who like to (a) walk and (b) really see things off the usual tourist path. After reading information about the big things to see and do, these guides then give information about neighborhoods and seeing things which might not have occured to you. In the process, you will come across people you would never have come in contact with and seen little known streets and nooks. You might even (as we have) be asked for directions by other people, including local people. In conjunction with the Lonely Planet guides, these are all you need.

I now buy only DK tour books. The photos and drawings are gorgeous; the text is concise, interesting and informative, without being boring. The size is convenient ... the book fits easily into a pocket, purse or daypack.

This little book has been very helpful in familiarizing us with Scotland in preparatation for a trip there this summer. The information is very succinct but adequate to whet your appetite. After reading the book I am looking forward to seeing all of the sites in person.

Scotland is a very diverse place and this travel guide does an excellent job of capturing all of the regions. It lays things out clearly and lets you plan a visit that encompasses all of Scotland or lets you really get down and focus on one region over another. It is very hard to find a good Scotland guide (that is not tied to a guide about Great Britain) and Eyewitness does the job. Highly recommend.

As always, this Eyewitness guide provides lots of beautiful pictures and basic information. If you just want to preview the country before visiting it's great. If you are going on your own, I'd suggest a guide with more detailed information.

The DK Eyewitness Guide to Scotland is a superb one book resource for planning a vacation in Scotland. DK's combination of pictures, maps, facts, and commentary allow the visitor to find not only the major tourist attractions but also the places and events off the beaten path that are often even more worthwhile. The Eyewitness guide includes a nice history of Scotland as well as practical information on travel, custons, money, safety, and climate, as well as tips on food and uniquely Scottish souvenirs. The cut-away sketches and diagrams of castles and historical sites increase the visitor's appreciation of the place. The guide provides some useful tips on places to hike. This reviewer and his wife found this guide, supplemented by local roadmaps, entirely adequate to plan and enjoy two weeks in the Scottish Highlands. This guide is highly recommended to the traveler planning a vacation in Scotland.

Fantastic book if you are thinking of visiting Scotland but are not sure which parts of this beautiful country to visit. Maps and drawings are great; cutways of castles and homes very interesting; sections on history and culture excellent. The book divides Scotland into geographical regions, describing the climate and terrain of each, the highlights of the area, sites to see; even walking or touring maps to follow. Perfect for an overview of the country as a whole, and if you are planning to travel there, use this book to narrow down the parts of the country you want to visit and then get more specific information on them.
Hard to believe there is this much good information in a 200 page book. A classic Eyewitness Travel Guide. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-10 13:18:09 EST)

I like Eyewitness Guides a lot, particularly for their glossy graphics combined with comprehensive information, but this really doesn't make the cut. How is it possible to cram Scotland into 224 pages? Well, it is not. Besides having very poor coverage on Glasgow and particularly Edinburgh, it also has - well, more poor coverage. Maps for the bigger islands in Northern Scotland are sorely lacking. More effort has really got to be invested in making this guide before it is worth your money. I know DK can make some really great guides, so it saddens me that they are now churning out trash like this.

A high quality production.
I've never been to Scotland but this little book paints a beautiful picture that caused me to realize I want to go even more. The descriptions are not too long or wordy, but give plenty of information about specific areas and events. You'll be introduced to Scotland region by region and seasonally as well. There's a complete feast for the eyes in the many picutres presented in the book. Pictures of cities, countryside, events, and wildlife are plentiful and enjoyable. Scotland here we come, in person or through the pages of this compact guide. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-26 02:54:00 EST)
