After listening to Sarah Palin's spectacular speech at the RNC, I searched for any and all material on this impressive governor. This is a quick read, but true to her character. Would enjoy more material on her accomplishments...she is truly an inspiration.

Great read about a great woman. How can we deny her a chance to really make a difference? Women have gone through so much to be able to vote, let's just hope that all of see that we've "come a long way, baby." A truly liberated woman who is true to herself, her God, her femininity, and her family. How absolutely refreshing to have someone who is one of us, male or female, the common person with ideals, hope, and honesty. Give this book to your children, your friends, and your family.

I love Sarah Palin. I have the hardcover edition but thought I would get a paperback to pass around. Disgusted when I received it. Printed on cheap paper and all pictures in black & white, printed on same cheap paper. Hardcover is high quality with all color pics. Save your money on the paperback unless you can find it for 49 cents or less.

I read this book while my 2 year napped in about 3 1/2 hours. I was blown away at Sarah Palins politcal sucess. For the first time in my life I am proud to really support this woman's candidancy. This book is simple and easy to read through. It is NOT all fluff, it is factual and to the point. I wanted to have an open mind about Sarah Palin's experience and was not afraid to be somewhat critical of her. She DID SHAKE THINGS UP IN ALASKA. Living in the Left Coast (CA). The way things are in Alaska makes me want to pack my bags right now and raise a family in Wasilla. Sarah Palin is an amazing true Feminist, she is what TRUE WOMAN IS ALL ABOUT AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT SHE DOES IN WASHINGTON. GO SARAH!

In the days since her nomination to be the Republican Vice-Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin has come under intense media scrutiny (unfair scrutiny), and a myriad of "scandals", none of which has proven to be true. And anyone reading this short biography on this utterly remarkable woman can easily see why. She has the highest ethics one could imagine, especially in this day of corrupt politicians, on both sides of the aisle. So it is quite refreshing to see a person come along who is not only willing to reach across the aisle to get things done for the good of the people, but is also willing to blow the whistle against corruption in her very own party. She is quite simply the gold standard by which we should measure politicians from here forward.
Many here are commenting on her book and are giving it bad reviews, but in all likelihood have never even opened it, and have the audacity to labmaste this woman of high ideals. They know not a bit about this woman, and their ignorance shows. In the chapter discussing her run for Governor of Alasa, her running mate had to explain during a televised debate that she would have to miss the debate in favor of spending time with troops headed over to Iraq. She puts people above politics......I only wish more would do the same. Read this book and get to know this remarkable woman. In my opinion, she will be the first female President of the United States. The only question is 2012 or later. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-19 02:02:38 EST)

I'm genuinely curious about this vice-presidential candidate and wanted to get more information since so far she hasn't answered questions (excepting the ABC Gibson interview). So I read this book. I found it to be very biased and superficial when what I wanted was something objective and a little more in depth so I can make an informed opinion about Governor Palin. This book was not helpful with this.

Author Kaylene Johnson mentions the concept of "Sarah-dipity" on several occasions throughout this short, 146-page book. Talk about "Sarah-dipity" that Johnson had her manuscript ready to go to press when Sen. John McCain brought Gov. Sarah Palin onto a stage in Dayton, Ohio, a few weeks ago and introduced her to the U.S. as his running mate for vice president! This concise bio is definitely an upbeat, "campaign biography" (unabashedly slanted in Palin's favor), which I found helpful to people (like me) who are sifting through endless numbers of sound bites and apocryphal stories while trying to get to the heart of who Sarah Palin is. Johnson describes her as a fearless yet down-to-earth Alaskan--a "populist" who is willing to take on "good ol' boys," regardless of their political party affiliations and financial connections. The closing sections of the book seem to be hastily written, which is understood considering the time crunch of the campaign season. However, the meatier parts--those relating to Palin's service as mayor of Wasilla and reformer of Alaskan state government--compose the real story that Johnson is trying to tell, and the story which Americans need to hear. I came away from reading this short biography with a respect for the industrious and independent-thinking Alaskan people, from whom Palin comes and whom Palin hopes to "put on the map," so to speak, come 11.04.08.

This book was written and published months before Sarah Palin became the Republican Vice-Presidential nominee, so those harping about this being a political stunt for McCain need to go back and brush up on their reading skills: Published April, 2008. I'm sure now there will be other books written, both praising and condemning her.
This is a basic introduction to Mrs. Palin, a place to start for anyone wanting to find out about her early years. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-18 14:23:27 EST)

A very well written, engaging book that will give insight to a very real woman who is very much like many other women today. This woman is accomplished, devoted to her family, faith and country. Sarah Palin has taken it just a bit further; she has taken on big government and corporations and the wheeling and dealing that has undermined our government and has jaded voters creating apathy. Sarah Palin reminds us that our Country is great because if its people not government. A woman who faced scrutiny and derision to become Alaska's Governor now faces the same in a blown up scale to possibly become the first woman Republican Vice President. It is refreshing and very well might bring a breath of fresh air to Washington D.C. that may clear up the political pollution spreading across our country.

EDIT: This is a review of the BOOK, not the CANDIDATE.
This book reads like a promotional pamphlet. Poorly written, and basically a lengthy retelling of basic facts you could find by visiting the Wikipedia page about Gov. Palin, this book ignores many of the more interesting parts in her background to give a horribly simplified and clearly biased portrait. Gov. Palin is an interesting politician, but "Sarah: How a Hockey Mom Turned Alaska's Political Establishment Upside Down" is not an interesting book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-17 01:45:19 EST)

Many enlivened to the 2008 presidential election by Gov. Palin's participation want to know more about this fresh face that has the left in paroxysms of ad hoc outrage. I wanted to know more, too, especially since she hails from my home state and grew up (in Wasilla) about thirty miles from where I did (in Anchorage).
This book is an enjoyable, friendly, and compelling story of the rise of an Alaskan women to the Governor's mansion. It was written before Gov. Palin became the Vice Presidential nominee. Apparently, it is being republished by a major publisher. This edition is by a small publisher. This is not an expose or an in-depth assessment of Gov. Palin's personal life or politics. You will not find any psychoanalysis, cultural critique, or political theorizing. It is a homey biography. The broad outlines are of a truly Alaskan (tough, independent) women whose determination and principles led her into political leadership and to challenge some of the major political players in Alaska. Readers will become more informed about the Alaskan way of life, which is quite alien to many in "the lower forty-eight," as we say. Alaskans love the outdoors, its scenery and wildlife. They often hunt, fish, climb, and sky. It is an oil-rich state with a significant population of native Alaskans from various tribes. (Gov. Palin is married to a man who is half native Alaskan.) Those who write off Gov. Palin as "the new governor of a sparsely populated state" (the Democrats' talking point) will find that governing Alaskans is anything but easy. The state brings its own unique challenges and requires real savvy from its leaders. I'm sure several books will be written about Sarah Palin in the years to come--and from every possible angle. She is a compelling figure and may be in the political theater (I hope) for years to come. This book, though, will take its place as a matter-of-fact chronicle of an unlikely ascent to public service. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-17 01:45:19 EST)

Like most people, I'd like to know more about Sarah Palin's background and beliefs, as she is a new face to come forward in the upcoming election. This book, being all that's out there, provides some information, but I'm still left wondering who is Sarah Palin, other than a conservative politician, family advocate, hockey mom, and moose-hunter. In Sarah, the first biography of Palin, author Kaylene Johnson draws upon personal interviews with Palin, her family, and closely placed sources to explore her family life, her upbringing in a devoutly Christian home, her political rise, and how she went from being a long-shot candidate to McCain's pick.
Another book I devoured this week after seeing it recommended here (and I recommend it myself) was Squawk!: How to Stop Making Noise and Start Getting Results (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-15 03:42:20 EST)

Sarah Palin is an ordinary woman who has done extraordinary things in many ways, and throughout her life. It is ordinary people like her doing extraordinary things that have made this country great. She is truly "one of the people", and that is why her approval rating is literally thru the roof in Alaska - over 82%. Much higher than any other Governor in the whole country.
This book was an inspiration to me as I can really relate to this woman whose story is so American. And loved all the photos! It shows her to be very genuine, wise and a woman of deep integrity. A true breath of fresh air, and after reading this delightful book, its clear she is both tender but tough, and pretty fearless. Just what we need in Washington. This books appears to be a hastily thrown together profile written to justify and sell S.P as a good choice for Vice President. My problem is this book lacks depth and substance. I would also like to have seen the author address some of the criticisms leveled against S.P .
On the plus side it is an easy read. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-15 03:42:20 EST)

If you can't tell by looking at the cover, which appears as if it was put together in 15 minutes with Google Image Search and a copy of Photoshop, this book (closer resembling a pamphlet) is really substandard quality. There is maybe 85 pages of text in this book, all of which took me literally less than 90 minutes to finish. The rest is filler and illustrations thrown in, not to assist with the narrative, but to pad the book. I turned to this book to get a more thorough understanding of someone who may one day become President of the United States, and to help me make a more educated voting decision, what I got was an obviously rushed job by someone looking to cash in on being the "first" to get a book out.
Look at it this way. Palin was announced on August 29, 2008 as a Vice Presidential candidate. This book was published EIGHT days later. While it is well-cited, it is not very well researched. I was not expecting a biography, and only expected exactly what the title alluded to, learning how this woman "turned Alaska's political establishment upside down!" In truth, I could find no such evidence to support this sensational claim. This is obviously an author's attempt to cash in on the recent "Palin craze," and for anyone interested in truly understanding Palin's effect on Alaskan politics, you would be better served by Wikipedia rather than a book written in 4 days. It is most noteworthy how the liberal media has tried to destory this american gem with the most vial of words simply because mcCain picked her for VP. This book goes a long way in explaining the real person BEFORE she was attacked for simply being herself. This book does a excellent job in defining what she brings to america...we should be grateful for her talents which will serve the VP office very well.

The whole Palin story should be classified under Horror and Dark Fantasy. This book is like the interview Oprah did with Michael Jackson years ago. He wrote the questions in advance, and she sat back and tittered approvingly at his absurd responses. The Spin Zone!!
To sum it up, I'll use Matt Damon's recent comment. "This Palin thing reads like some insane, surrealistic Disney movie script, where a hockey mom becomes president of the United States." If it wasn't so absurd it would be terrifying. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-15 03:42:20 EST)

This book is overwhelmingly pro-Palin. Author stretches the story to the max. Let us not forget that most of us won't be on the RAPTURE carpet ride with Palin,Bush,Cheney, and the chief pilot of RAPTURE Airlines: Commander Hagee. Joe Lieberman (Hagees rally partner) will also be on the carpet ride because, like betraying the Democratic party Leibermans loyalty, to whatever cause, is blowin'in the wind. I don't mention McCain because I really feel, deep down, that he is not a far right wing and closed minded politician. I feel McCain is just around a lot of very misguided people. These people live and breathe for the Rapture to come, at the expense of the USA and the world. Look what Bush and the Rapture club has done for USA and world peace - ZERO! My main point is, I guess that the author has selective memory. Author paints a shiny and guilded image of Palin. This is deceiving and very dangerous for USA. Book is more of a collectors item, as she will be long forgotten in a few months. Wait for the real Palin to come out; 'cause you ain't seen nothing yet.
Sarah Palin will be the head stewardess on this very, very, very exclusive right-right-right-wing; you're not one of us - so you can't join flight (not that anybody would want to - yuk!) This book has a lot of ugly stuff between the lines and more importantly, what is not being said. In life, and in general, being a good person to all, and not hurting anyone, even those who don't agree with you on everything, is a basic premise on life. Is it just me, or do most people feel that God just loves us unconditionally? So if you don't agree with Sarah Palin in Alaska, you will probably have a rough time making a living there. But Sarah, God will still love those who disagree with you. Even though your actions and beliefs say otherwise. They may not be on the magic carpet ride with you and Commander Hagee, and co-pilot Joe 'blowin' in the Wind' Lieberman, but, I don't know... I think... No, actually I feel confident that God won't judge, condemn or punish people for their beliefs as your being does. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-13 01:28:31 EST)

I was interested in seing what this book had to say, considering Gov. Palin has only been in the national spotlight for only two weeks. The book was an easy read and though her story seems to be that with which many Americans can relate in one way or another, I found it to be very one-sided and hastely written. It does not ask enough hard questions regarding her religeous background, her actual record regarding such issues as her office's relationship with oil company interests in her state, or the actual record of her dealings with the famed "bridge to nowhere", for which both the recent statements of Gov. Palin and this book have been proven false by public record. I also have a sinking fealing that after reading many of the customer reviews here that most of those who have written reviews do not seem to have actually read the book. I for one can not trust the story as told.

I think maybe it's due to the hadrons escaping from that satanic swiss supercollider, but I had the most vivid vision last week.
I was reading "Sarah: How a Hockey Mom etc." on Thursday, keeping up on current events, when I grew weary and fell sound asleep. I dreamed I was in the waiting room of my dermatologist, waiting for my annual checkup. Ever the impatient patient, I was flipping through the dated reading material when a Newsweek magazine caught my eye. It was a Newsweek from January 23, 2009! Sarah Palin's picture was on the cover in front of the Presidential Seal. On page 12, the lead story began... "Newsweek January 23, 2009 (Washington, DC) In an historic freak accident - what Matt Damon was later to call "a bad Coen brothers movie" - Sarah Palin today leapfrogged, in five astonishing minutes, from Governor of Alaska to leader of the free world. The tragic and incredible turn of events occurred moments after John McCain was sworn in as 44th President of the United States of America. As a beaming Chief Justice Roberts looked on, McCain turned to his side to embrace his new VP, whom many pundits claim was responsible for his election. Palin had just begun an enthusiastic "victory wave" to the crowd (the same "wave" a CNN photo editor was once accused of framing as a Nazi salute). The sudden upward thrust of her stiffened right arm caught McCain awkwardly under his elbow, causing him to wrench his shoulder, wince in pain, and jerk backwards into the Chief Justice. Roberts, who has a long history of epilepsy, then had the misfortune to react to the sudden movement with a grand mal seizure. In the ensuing and entangled tumble of the two, McCain apparently hit the soft edemic portion of his left temple twice, first on the sharp edge of the McCain family Bible stand, and then again on the speakers podium. He fell bleeding from his ear to the stage floor where Mrs. Palin and Mrs. McCain both rushed to his aid. Before the President slipped into unconsciousness, the necktie mike of ABC reporter Charles Gibson who was standing close by, caught him distinctly saying "My God, you c*nt!..." This unfortunate utterance, Maureen Dowd of the NY Times later speculated, suggested that Mrs. Palin had pushed Mr. McCain - ambitiously and deliberately. Republican spin apologists claimed it was merely his last joking words to his loving wife. President Palin, when asked, explained what she believed was a manifestation of God's Will. She pointed to a whorl in the wood of the podium which was shaped exactly like the Madonna. She too was puzzled by McCain's choice of words, but she believed McCain's reflexive oath was actually a death bed conversion upon seeing The Mary, and, too, a congratulations to her becoming the first female President. She confessed that he had sometimes endearingly expostulated "why you damned c*nt" in private, when admiring her quick grasp of foreign policy issues." At this point the doorbell rang, and I awoke, a bit foggy, and went to the door. It was FedEx. When I finished signing for my Amazon delivery, I came back to write down the dream in its entirety. But the portion above was all I could remember. Oh, what books did I order? The Audacity of Hope, by Barack Obama, and Poems, by S.T. Coleridge. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-13 01:28:31 EST)

That's the book I can most compare this to... George Orwell's 1984. The dystopian future. Both books are scary reads. Frightening, actually.
The author points out that Ms. Palin, in a snit, tried to get her ex-brother-in-law fired. Ms. Palin wants to teach creationism in schools. And upon becoming mayor, Ms. Palin's first question to the librarian in her small town was "how do I get books banned?" If this doesn't scare you... touch your wrist and see if you have a pulse. I give it -1 stars because I don't like thrillers and don't like to be scared. But I give it 5 stars because it is an amazing mystery how this small town creationist/book-burning mayor is actually running for national office and getting more than one vote. So five minus one is four and divided by two is two. Two stars. Then again, I could give it 10 stars for being a comedy or farce... how reality-show and game-show addicted Americans can even think about electing this bridge-to-nowhere building PTA mom to higher office. But our future is too important to joke about. And this is not comedy. It's tragedy. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-13 01:28:32 EST)

Written in an easy-to-read format, this book "Sarah" chronicles Sarah Palin's rise to experience and power in Alaska's political arena. While it is obviously friendly towards her objectives and accomplishments, I see no reason to call it 'biased'. Facts are laid forth as such, and the book even mentions some objective criticisms. The photographs are a nice personal touch, and I appreciate that I could read it cover-to-cover in one sitting.
Sarah's story is amazing--one faith-filled woman whose servant heart is put at the service of her country can make an amazing impact on local, statewide (and now national) government. This is inspiring stuff! USA Today has written, perhaps prophetically, given that the book was published in April of '08, that Sarah Palin is "... proceeding to shatter the traditional political mold." I do believe this book is written about our future vice-president. After reading this book I think you'll agree, that's a GREAT thing! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-13 01:28:31 EST)

This is written by a good friend of Sarah Palin and is a biased and incomplete account. She was raised in the Pentacostal church which after researching, have found among other disturbing ideas of the church, that they believe that the Holy Spirit dwells more fully in them. Indeed, she has electrified the 'Republican wing of the Republican party' - Karl Rove's extremist far right evangelical base. They absolutely believe she is the bee's knees and are out in full force shouting her praises, giving great reviews, and slamming those who think otherwise. LEFT OUT IN THIS BOOK are some troubling disconnects: *Being an average hockey/PTA mom and trying to get books banned at the public library. *Upholding the sanctity of all Life and killing animals from a helicopter. *Being against special interests and having your campaign run by lobbyists and your inauguration sponsored by big oil. *Being against BIG government and, God forbid, if your daughter is ever raped and impregnated by a mad man or a victim of incest, having the GOVERNMENT FORCE HER to carry to term. *Being against earmarks but accepting (and keeping) money for the Bridge to Nowhere while campaigning that she was against it. *Saying "I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq" and possibly getting elected to one of the highest offices in the world? (She is, however, presently getting a crash course tutorial by Bush/Cheney/McCain advisers, and will be, no doubt, up to speed before they let her talk to the press.) My female friends and I are intelligent enough to realize that the Republican philosophy of trickle down economics (make the rich more wealthy in hopes that it will filter down) that will be made permanent by McCain/Palin has been a total dismal failure. It has only put more money in the pockets of those who aren't aware of the number of homes they own. I believe Palin's running mate when he told Tim Russert in a debate that he was "not well versed on" economic issues. As a woman of many years, I find it offensive that John McCain, who so desperately needs the female vote, thinks so little of my protection, the protection of my loved ones, the security of my country, not to mention world opinion, and has hurriedly placed to be in one of highest offices in the world, a person who was not fully vetted. The public deserves better. These are serious times and in order to get in-depth reporting on a woman who is a heartbeat away from staring down the "re-emerging Soviet menace", terrorist networks, and dealing with a host of dangerous worldwide problems, WE NEED TO LEARN MORE THAN THIS BOOK IS ABLE TO SUPPLY! A pretty amazing story about an average American's success in politics. She's got a lot of moxie.

FYI: don't be tricked by some bogus "conservative" reviews trying to spread lies and smear Palin---to dissuade moderates and independents. Last year, Newsweek magazine had an article praising Governor Palin's "pragmatic, postpartisan approach to solving problems, a style that works especially well with the large numbers of independent voters." You can read it at: http://www.newsweek.com/id/42534/

This book is awesome and it totally explains how Palin will help stop homosexuals from raping children; as well as, how she will help stop liberals from using abortion as birth control. I really liked the part where she said that liberals want to kill the innocent and free the guilty. Besides, the Democrats need all the felons they can get. This book really gives us conservatives hope that the liberal filth will not ruin the innocence of all of your children in the future.

Right now Sarah, the book, is out of stock, but you can find excerpts or citations to it in the news media (liberal or otherswise). It's helpful as a starting point for those of us in the Lower 48 States in getting to know Governor Palin, our latest, exciting political celebrity--but there's no balance or thoughtful perspective. Despite the "search and destroy" approach of the media when it comes to politics, much of the coverage to date has been superficial, much like canonization, and too many reviews of the book buy into the hagiography (Look up the definition if necessary, it's apt). For the record, I'm an independent, I voted for Senator McCain, and honor Navy tradition and his heroism as a POW. But the book and the governor shouldn't be embraced on partisan grounds. It's important to read between the lines and seek balance before making judgments. Don't stop by reading one book. One that I do recommend: Robert Timberg's A Nightengale's Song (1996), which positively describes McCain's coming of age, POW experience, and sense of mission. It also describes the parallel political careers of four other Navy/Marine officers during the Reagan era, including Colonel Oliver North of Iran-Contra fame. In some respects, Governor Palin is the Oliver North of 2008, and Sarah, the book, is not unlike the blast of Ollie-mania that occurred when he testified before Congress 20 years ago--which initially hid an overblown, exaggerated sense of self and recklessness. (For the record again, I voted for GOP incumbent John Warner over Ollie when he ran against him for the Senate). Eventually, we'll know whether Governor Palin is the right balance for Senator McCain and the country. But this book is no more thsn 20% helpful in making a judgment.

Love McCain. We need more patriots like him. And was happy about the Palin VP pick. Good to see a strong, conservative woman in office.
Picked up a copy of this book to learn more, then started to do my own research on her. What's in this book isn't what I found on my own, or even what the media (including conservative sources like FOX) in reporting now. Makes me question the info we're getting about her. Seems like she has a lot of skeletons. This is a feel good book, which makes her out to look great, but it's not accurate...unfortunately. Yes, i know she is good looking. Yes, i know she has solid conservative values. All that is great, but the dirt on Palin is is sinking the Republican ship!! It was good while it lasted! The book is a whitewash. It's a typical political bio - meant to gain supporters. They make it sound like she took on Big Oil to help the little guy but that isn't what happened. She only had disagreements with them about the windfall profits tax. Also she supported Rep. Ted Stevens "Bridge to Nowhere" until she saw it wasn't going to get passed. Then she spoke against it. The book doesn't tell you that either. She is not a reformer - she only plays one on TV. She refuses to consider abortion even in cases of rape or incest. She is currently suing the US govt to take polar bears off the endangered list so the bears don't prevent drilling for oil in ANWR (which means lots of money for Alaska). She wants creationism taught in schools. This book is a whitewash and the woman is dangerous.

This book is a good overview of the inspiring story of a lady, mom, wife and political leader. It is a sought after biography due to the extreme disservice the press has shown Sara Palin. With all of the trivial misinformation dumped on the American public by the politically controlled press and Washington machine it is good to read this account of relevant facts and actions. Even if you don't agree with her political policies you should order this book and gather some information. A must have and inspiring book for any mother, daughter or American voter.

I quickly realized, by the third chapter, that all of the spin by the GOP and Dems and media is so far out of context as to completely miss the point of who this woman really is. The usual talking heads are comparing her to the status quo, looking at her through the lenses of the political parties, and therefore are missing the real story entirely.
In a nutshell, this is the story of a genuine reformer who hungers for taking on the political establishment, corruption and waste, without allegiance to party. When you read this book, your political loyalties take a back seat. She has been the underestimated, anti-establishment candidate many times and has blindsided everyone who didn't think she had what it takes. In essence, she is everything Obama supporters crave, but with proven results. My guess is that if there is enough time between now and the election for Americans to learn this story, she will carry McCain to the White House. If not, she will be the lasting legacy of the McCain 2008 campaign. Even if he loses, he has unleashed a new generation of leadership that will demand government work for the people. I've been following Ms. Palin's story for months before she was considered and found her to be the best pick for the ticket, but never thought it would happen. Boy was I wrong. This book illustrates all that Ms. Palin has to offer. She's no pushover and has a great future in changing the "good ol boy" culture of American politics. On a side note, I just heard this book was mentioned on the news networks and I suppose by this time tomorrow, the liberal "free-speech wrecking crew" will do their usual hack job on anyone who would dare write about a conservative in a positive light. That's unfortunate and it speaks to the sad state of political discourse in this country. The constant mud slinging by the press against Ms. Palin for ridiculous sexist reasons will backfire and America will rally around her. It's one thing to criticize her on policy, but it's another thing to say things such as "she's incapable of holding a position in office because she's a mother with 5 children". That kind of nonsense is cheap and it will, again, backfire. Read this biography and ignore the comments. Accept for mine, of course. :)

This book was written long before she was in consideration for the Vice Presidential nomination and it shows. It isn't your typical political expose that digs deep (whether overly positive or negative, as they tend to be), though this does provide a favorable presentation of her accomplishments, which in their raw form show (despite what she accomplished in Alaska) how green she is for someone who could end up a breath away from the office of the Presidency.
I'm not sure how she was able to accomplish all she has, must've read Squawk!: How to Stop Making Noise and Start Getting Results (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-09-06 01:12:15 EST)

I was thrilled to read Miss Johnson's excellent book about Sarah Palin. She is indeed an American hero. I admire Sarah for being one of the few to go on record supporting teaching of the bible in public schools. In this day an age, with so much crime, so many chidren, especially in urban areas, could benefit from this. I also applaud Sarah for her plan to seperate homosexuals from the rest of the community. There were some interesting facts about the Pope and Catholics domination of the world that I did not know before reading what Sarah has said. And Sarah's involvement with the Alaska Independent party, to establish an independent Chrisitan country in Alaska makes me want to move up there and be a part of it. Go Sarah!! Our next VP!!

Can't they EVER tell the truth? This woman is a joke and I'm very upset that the joke is on Americans now. McCain just picked her as his VP running mate. Do we REALLY want ANOTHER Republican under ethics investigation in our federal government? Hasn't Bush and his cronies given us enough of these yet?

Sahrah Palin is a good fit for Alaska and her story should be an inspiration to many. I am sure in days to come there will be other choices that might do a better job of portraying her unique history.

Although this little book doesn't dig deep enough into why this former beauty queen has become a symbol of hope, I think it is a good springboard into a discussion of how a fighting mom can take on the "political class" of all talk - no action men. Too many politicians got into it for the wrong reason. Obviously, this tough lady got into politics for the right reasons.
While I'm sure that very few families in our country would qualify as "pioneer" households, this is a family that many would like to identify with. She certainly is a role model for young girls who have too few positive images among the current class of celebrities. I imagine that when someone asks her why she hasn't been more widely travelled internationally, she'll probably say something like: "It takes a lot of money to travel the world, and frankly, my family has not been in a position to take a lot of European vacations, etc." However, I think she would probably also say that she is willing to spend as much time traveling the world and brushing up on foreign policy as a President McCain asks her to. She could certainly say that as long as McCain is filling the office of President, she'll have free reign and plenty of time to brush up on the foreign areas she needs to. This is not a luxury that a President Obama would have, since he would have no time at all to get ready for the task for which he has no executive experience whatsoever. One should never underestimate the power of solid, ethical character. Someone who has made all the right moral choices in her life, especially a mother who has a child in harm's way, is not likely to make bad decisions when it comes to decisions that can affect "world peace"... after all, that's what all beauty queens want in their hearts (LOL). Seriously, though, this little book gave me hope that there still are nuclear families in America. Families that understand what hard work and right living are all about. This book makes clear that Sarah Palin is a force to be reckoned with. I wouldn't underestimate her, whether I was Paul Begala or Vladimir Putin. By the way, Vladimir Putin would probably fear her, since Sarah Palin knows about as much about energy politics as any person in America. She is not afraid to play hardball when necessary. I want to see much more meaty tome about not just this mom from the sticks, but about all those "hockey moms" and "soccer moms" who REALLY make this country work. This book is at least a good start. I got this book a while ago from a friend and it honestly took me a bit of time to read it. I was not that interested in a Governor I never heard of from a state I had never been to. I generally do not read books that are promoted by Oprah. And also, she was a Republican... one in a party I'd been turning away from for many reasons. Avoiding this book was a mistake. I finally got the time to read it and I was absolutely blown away and touched by her story. She is such a breath of fresh air! A woman just like the hard-working women in my neighborhood, one who took on established politics and her own party to bring reform that some thought impossible. This book will make you laugh, cry, and inspire you in so many ways. We live in a time that is short on true role models in public life... Sarah Palin is as good as it gets. Read this book. You will not regret it. Her total dedication to her family and the people she serves, her drive to push reform, and her determination to bring ethics back into politics is just so amazingly stirring. America needs more people like Sarah Palin and this little book captures her story very well.

I read this book in two visits to a bookstore (in Anchorage). I was initially afraid of her governorship and sought to assuage somehow and felt reading this book might accomplish this. Whatever can be said about her politics is going to be handled by someone far more insightful than myself. I agree with the other reviewers who say that wanted more from this book. There really is not much here. It is an expanded people magazine article.
