Pageturners with locomotive plots and 2-D characters are not normally my thing (see my reviews for evidence), but my friend's mom gave me this Mitch Rapp book as a gift, and I burned through it with a smile. No, it will not win any literary prizes. But I liked that the author told his story his own way, seemingly without worrying about whom he might be offending. The protagonist unloads the F-word here and there, which I would imagine would offend one crowd, and then he turns around and makes an anti-abortion soapbox pitch, which I'd think would offend a different bunch. But, hey, it's a conflicted character honestly portrayed, and I appreciated that, even if the abortion thing didn't really make sense in that context to me. What I'm saying is I didn't always agree with the character, but I believed him as a character, even when I thought he was misfiring.
I'm not a political person, so I just read this as feds chasing bad guys, and although the author tries to shade most folks (one of the terrorists ends up having qualms and turning on the lead terrorist), we all know which side has to triumph in the end. The author provides inside angles on different countries' intelligence approaches and the secret meetings they have, but one of my favorite sub-plots struck me as decidedly un-thriller-like, and that involved the protagonist's setting up another agent to become a media posterboy, effectively taking him out of the undercover spy game for his own good. Well done, Vince Flynn. I normally don't bother to review books unless I consider them four stars or above, but despite the fact that its sentences are not remarkably written, this one was cool enough to reviewed anyway. There was a LOT of buildup in this one, and it just sort of ended. Really intruiging, very fast read, very good story - but the sudden ending was a bit of a disappointment.

I could not agree more with the multiple 1 star reviews. I loved this series before Vince started shilling for the Beckites. Spare me the abortion debates in a spy "thriller". If I want Fox news views I'll watch Fox news. And I don't. I'm done with Mitch and Vince.

As a fan of Vince Flynn's, I've read six of his previous thrillers. I've loved them all, and I've gotten a glimpse of what it takes to be a covert operative. These folks are never mentioned in the media, yet they perform near super human tasks to keep our nation safe while Washington bureaucrats constantly put up roadblocks in their paths. The central character in these novels is Mitch Rapp, whose character has been represented in the hit TV series, "24", played by Keifer Sutherland.
If you enjoy page turning, adrenaline pumping action, you'll enjoy these books by Vince Flynn. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-03-07 02:18:03 EST)

I think this is the first Vince Flynn - Mitch Rapp book that I wasn't very impressed with. Mitch has become a little too sure of himself, and anybody who is against him has to be removed. He's becoming a bit too much like his enemies. And the ability of Mitch's friend to hack into any computer system in the world strains belief -- it just isn't that easy. The book had an interesting setup and plot, and books like this usually involve the good guys tracking down the bad guys before they can execute their evil plan. But in this book, the good guys don't track down the bad guys until it's too late. Only due to the usual Mitch Rapp heroics is one "good guy" saved (and several other civilians perish) in the end. They seem to be celebrating at the end of the book, when in reality the chosen ending would be a huge black eye to the United States. IMO, this book was not up to the usual quality of the series. I did enjoy the "Barreiro" reference, though (local MN sports/talk radio guy).

one word to describe his latest two or three books: BORING!
there were nothing in the storyline, predictable, contrite and repetitive. all the writing had lost its original uniqueness. characters had become 1-dimensional cardboard-like figures. rapp, nash and kennedy, all lost their souls and personalities. almost nothing in his latest books generated sparks and interests. flynn just did the cash-in business like those morons in the senate and congress. i'd strongly suggest that mr. flynn stops writing and retiring yesterday. Of all of Flynn's Mitch Rapp's novels, this one most accurately and frighteningly reflects many of the current threats (both foreign and domestic) faced by Americans in the WOT. As Flynn depicts in this novel, many within our own government and among our citizenry simply do not GET the threat the United States must continue to counter. Many of Flynn's plot elements eerily mirror current events - happenings that reveal not only the threat of those who want to harm us, but also the ignorance of those within our country who consider themselves "tolerant" and "enlightened" and would rather go after those in the military and intelligence fields who are risking their lives working to protect us rather than the true enemy. Based on Flynn's research and writing and current events, we cannot say we haven't been warned.

I have just finished Pursuit of Honor, my first Vince Flynn and Mitch Rapp novel. The writing style is good and fits the characters he is portraying well. This is a plot based novel. After finishing this book I can see how our intelligence community fails to pass on crucial information and share timely pieces of data. Vince draws the 'inside baseball' technicalities that are never disclosed to civilians. Mitch Rapp is an American James Bond without the Bond girls. A Rapp girl might not be a bad addition in a future novel. Thanks to Glenn Beck for interviewing VF on his show, or I might not have heard about him and missed this book. It will make an action packed movie or video game. I will consider reading more of VF, author of Gypsies' Passion.

I've read everyone of Flynn's books and I love the Mitch Rapp character (he is the literary counterpart to Jack Bauer of "24"). Pursuit of Honor was a HUGE disappointment. Very slow and boring. Flynn must be connecting with his feminine side in this book because many of the characters are a bunch of wusses (ie. Mike Nash - with the way Flynn portrayed him, I came to loathe him). There wasn't enough fighting the bad guys as was prevalent in his earlier books. I look forward to Flynn's books because I want to see Rapp kick some serious butt. This didn't happen in this book.....this book was all emotion, crying, ruminating, reflecting which was nauseating. If I want this, I'll buy a Danielle Steele book. I will seriously consider whether or not his next book is worth buying.

I used to love Vince Flynn's novels, they were great thrillers. When I discovered him I went through his first few novels in just a couple weeks. But I'm sad to say this is just garbage. I wish I could say I did not see it coming, but I have. Every book lately has had more and more of the author's obvious political views and less and less good story. The last several books are all basically the same story, Mitch Rapp is right, everyone else is wrong, blah blah blah. I'm sorry to say this will be the last Vince Flynn book I will be purchasing, his stories are no longer stories, they are just political propaganda wrapped in a poorly constructed formula used over and over again. Hey Vince, drop the politics and try just writing a good spy novel again.

This book is appalling. The lead character is a loose canon CIA operative and if only the bleeding hearts would let him kill and torture EVERYBODY we would have no problems with terrorism. I have an uncle who sends me demented right-wing propaganda every day - I think he might like this novel.
Flynn is not a bad writer but he is waaaaaay off the deep end in terms of content. After about half the book I could take no more. Save your money. I would give this zero stars if Amazon would permit it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-02-15 02:30:02 EST)

It seems like the plots of his last few books are not as creative as his earlier work. This book feels formula-driven and dumbed down.I also feel like I am being sold an agenda.According to this book, the CIA is composed of super smart altruistic patriots who can do whatever they want, torture is the best thing since sliced bread, and everyone in the middle east is a potential terrorist. This book might make for good propaganda but not good fiction.

Picking up from the aftermath of the previous book, Extreme Measures, we find the surviving terrorists escaping across the US and CIA agents Rapp and Nash also dealing with the impact of their own actions and heroics.
This is a slow starter and perhaps the weakest of all of Flynn's books. The grey line between what might just be acceptable in the fight for freedom is well and truly blurred with a bit of a message of 'anything is acceptable' in order to protect the US. Well in my view, these sort of stories only work well when our heroes hover on the edge of legality and we delight when they risk it and go slightly over. But here one gets the impression that the CIA have decided that the end will always justify the means which leaves the reader uncomfortable at times, especially when this is portrayed as the best way of doing things. Think how many recent thrillers have dealt with good guys up against rogue elements of The Agency, well this takes the view from the flip-side.. It takes half the book for the action to kick in and we have to get past the politics first, but even then the action is sort of subdued. Rapp is an enjoyable bulldozer and at his best when acting off piste but there is a sense that we have seen it all before and Vince Flynn needs to find a way to re-calibrate his series or find a new cast of characters. Since I live in Florida, a good "Beach Read" is a year round luxury and this one really fits the bill. It is fast paced easy reading, escapism on a chilling and timely subject. You are left with the sincere hope that there are people protecting us with these skills and sense of "Duty, Honor, and Country". You also wonder if they could survive in the face of our "Political Class" and the ACLU. Flynn does not hesitate to take on shibboleths of the media, lawyers, and politicians as he weaves this action thriller. I predict a movie is in the offing.

I just finished the whole Mitch Rapp series - read them all on my Kindle-2.
While some things get predictable, for the most part the author keeps it fresh. Left-wing, bleeding heart, tree-huggers won't like the series, but I wish they'd read it. The books are definitely page-turners and it's difficult to put them down. They're action-packed and move right along. I'll definitely read the next one! I always pre-order Flynn's novels and I usually finish them in one sitting, two tops. If you read the other Mitch Rapp novel, then you know that Flynn tells it like it is. Mitch Rapp is America;'s hero despite Washington politics, shortsighted Liberals and crooked politicians. (Sound Familiar.
The book opens where Flynn's last novel. Extreme Measures: left off. After a terrorist attack where 185 people are murdered in DC, including Senators, members of Congress and other government employees. Mitch Rapp has rounded up the terrorists, but three escape and the chase begins. Rapp tries to find the escapees before they kill again. While Rapp is trying to find the escaped terrorists before they kill again, he is being investigated over his interrogation methods in Extreme Measures and he has to contend with the Inspector General of the CIA who wants to bring Rapp down. Rapp is an American hero who is single-minded in his quest to keep us safe from terrorists who do not care how many innocent lives they destroy in the name of their religion and their God. He knows that we must use the same tools that the terrorist use, including assassination to protect America. In the eight years since the 9/11 attacks we have stopped being supportive of those who are fighting the war on terror. We are trying to protract the rights of those who want destroy us, our country and our way of life hide; this is not what out found father had in mind when they wrote the constitution. While the book may be "preaching", it's a message we need to hear before it's too late. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-02-07 06:23:54 EST)

I've read all the Mitch Rapp books and Pursuit of Honor was a disapointment to me. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I don't feel like the various story lines were pursued far enough, if at all. Perhaps Vince was trying to release this book in a timely manner, given that much of his content and story line is a similar image of our current administration in DC. He even takes a real life scene from a certain pompous lady Senator that was insulted by being called mam. I suppose it's a must read for Mitch Rapp fans, but don't get your hopes up. It's a quick read...

I have been a Vince Flynn/ Mitch Rapp fan since the first book came out. He was a must read. No Longer. He needs to go back to the drawing boards. Rather than being a great story packed with nonstop action as his earlier books, this is a political diatribe. As another reviewer said "I really hate it when politics get in the way of a good story." I may agree with his point of view, but I am not buying a larger than life CIA spy assassin story to read about why abortion is wrong or to dump on Nancy Pelosi. His terrorists in this one are 1-dimensional and unbelievable; one who can mastermind a brilliant strategic strike on DC including getting in to the CIA itself, but is then too stupid to rely on his agent in the US for local info, when successfully under the radar, killing unnecessarily to draw attention to himself. What is worse is that the terrorist plot and chase is background, not much more than lip-service, to the political message that takes up 70% of the book. BORING and tedious.
Please Vince, go back to doing what you can do so well. Write Thrillers. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-02-07 06:23:54 EST)

I found this book lacked the power and drama of the earlier books in the series. Mitch Rapp is weak - Mike Nash crumbles - Irene Kennedy hardly plays a part. A Jihad terrorist is so out of character he turns sides and becomes Uncle Tom over night. Seems like everyone is on a guilt trip.

I have read every Vince Flynn book and with the last one it started to become a little tedious. This one conviced me it is time for someone else to take over for Mitch Rapp. Not as much action in this as there used to be, more political. Very predictable too. I should have read the reviews first but I figured Vince's books were always one of my favorites.

I just noticed that 193 people reviewed this book. I haven't read any of them, so I am wondering what I can say that is new? I just remembered that I have read all 11 of the Mitch Rapp novels. I have heard that there is a movie coming out based on the first book. After reading this book I was happy to hear about the movie and sad as well. I assume you know that you need to read the first book and work your way up to this one to understand Mitch Rapp.
Stop! I have a problem with this series. I have enjoyed this character and have reviewed each of the novels giving them 5 stars. I would have given this one 5 too, but 2/3 of the way through I began to realize something. I realized that Rapp had not changed and his point of view had not changed. I found myself begining to think of Rapp as loose cannon after all. Flynn has had Rapp go beyond the Constitution before, but this time his character's action were way way over the line. I found myself agreeing with the character Nash that Rapp was danger and a threat. I guess my views have changed and the difference between Rapp and the villians was becoming blurred. I wonder if Flynn's point of view is going tiresome to others as well. I wonder if Flynn knows where his Rapp is going? Is it time to shut down Rapp? I really hate it when politics get in the way of a good story. Mitch Rapp WAS a good story once, but now he is becoming tiredsome. That is ashame. Mitch Rapp was a 21 century John Wayne, an American hero fighting the good fight. But somewhere, sometime things changed. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-02-07 06:23:55 EST)

I can't say that I am a Flynn "fan," as I've read only a couple of his books. I was curious about this because of some conversation I heard about it from Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh about an especially powerful chapter 51. Not only was that chapter less than compelling, the whole book was a bit boring. I found the character Hakim unbelievable. An al Qaeda operative with a conscience? Come on. Give me a good old nasty terrorist and bring him to an ugly end. I also think that our politicians deserve a lot more of a dressing down than what Flynn gives them in his allegedly "powerful chapter 51."
I don't know, maybe there is something about Mitch Rapp that I just don't get, but I don't find him very interesting. I guess that, politically, this is a book I should like, because I do despise Islamic terrorists and their friends in congress, but this story was just not all that engaging. I also think that Flynn's dialogue for the characters resorts over-much to the tiresome "F" word, which in book and screen-writing today seems to skirt around the demands of thoughtful writing. I did not read the reviews before I read the book, recommended by Glenn Beck. Now that I have read the 1 and 2 star reviews, I totally agree. Entertaining but not gripping, too much proselizing about why we need rogue warriors. I am a conservative, no need to convice me on that issue. Consequently, I found it boring. Liberals would probably find it unconscienable and put it down after the first few chapters. Not sure if I would try another Vince Flynn or not.

Pursuit of Honor kept me wanting to come back for more. This is the first book I read by author Vince Flynn and with every page of this book I became a bigger fan. Flynn has the ability to capture your imagination and to place you directly into the scene he describes. The author delivers on multiply plots that are continually tied together as the chapters pass by. With every page the author takes the reader into a world not known to everyday Americans and exposes you to a system of justice often not considered on a daily level.
Although a fiction piece, the book could easily read as non-fiction. Character development and plot development thickened with every page and the realistic scenarios are played out chapter by chapter. In my opinion, the world needs more Mitch Rapps and I am glad Vince Flynn introduced me to his world, even it only exists in the pages of Pursuit of Honor. I totally enjoyed this book in spite of the Nash character and his wife. I wish Vince would write this family out of his future books like he did Anna. Anna was a looser and so is Nash and his entire family. We need more characters like Kennedy, Donatella from Italy, and Scott Coleman and crew. Nash was weak and worthless as a friend and co-operative. But Mitch was up to his usual standards and excellent in dialogue and action. The critics of this book are just liberals who don't like to admit they are wrong in this war on terror and so rip up everyone with a different point of view. But Nash is a real problem because Mitch doesn't need a friend and co-worker against him as well as the liberals in congress. I througly enjoyed Rapp telling the California senator off in the hearings. They want others to treat them with respect but they don't treat anyone else with respect. They work for us, they are not KINGS and QUEENS to bow down to. You earn respect and so far they have not earned nothing but our contempt. Bravo Vince on your newest novel. Just get rid of the Nash problem in the next book.

I'm a huge Flynn fan, but as a regular reader of this series I was a little disappointed with this latest effort, mainly because I know he can do so much better.
This will probably seem like a minor gripe, but much like the last book there is too much Mike Nash (and wife) in this book at the expense of some of the more interesting, and much more likeable, characters from past books. Kennedy, who is one of my favorites, has a very small role in this book. And what happened to McMahon, the FBI agent she was dating, he was an interesting character. I have a copy of everything Flynn has ever written so I know he can create compelling characters- whether they be good or evil or somewhere in between like Donatella. One thing is for sure... he can do better than Nash. However, all in all, this is a good book. And I think an important book. The time the author spends outlining America's problems with the parasites we've elected to Congress was time well spent. Although the book is a work of fiction, I think it contains more truths than you will find in any big city newspaper. Flynn knows his stuff and he is not afraid to put it into print. If only we had more authors like him... If you've never read a Vince Flynn book, I would suggest you start with "Term Limits" and work your way up the list. Flynn is an excellent author, and, the Mitch Rapp series is positively addictive. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-21 05:08:11 EST)

3 1/3 stars.
The events in the story take place a few days after the conclusion of Flynn's last novel, "Extreme Measures." At the close of that story, Mitch Rapp and Mike Nash stopped a group of terrorists before they could destroy the National Counterterrorism Center. 185 people were killed but it could have been much worse. Three of the terrorists who planned that mission did escape. However, these men have cut their ties to al Qaeda centers overseas. Working as an independent cell, they will be difficult to find in order to stop them before they can kill again. Similiar to today with the war against al Queda, there are many in congress who complain about the war. In addition, with the politicians having Guantanamo Prison closed, the question of methods of interrogation are challanged. Mitch must take the time to explain his motives and means of carrying out his mission and defend his interrogation techniques, he even has to convince his associate Mike Nash, that his actions are just. With so much detail about convincing congress to support him, there is less action and drama than in the past. Mitch continues to be an excellent character and the novel was enjoyable but not quite up to Vince Flynn's past work. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-13 05:05:54 EST)

As someone who has read all the Mitch Rapp books, this one was a must read. I like some of the earlier Rapp books better, but its a worth while pursuit to
read Pursuit of Honor. Vince Flynn knows his stuff. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-13 05:05:54 EST)

I have read all of Vince Flynn's books and like a lot of people went out and bought this book as soon as I saw it was out. However, I have to say this book has crossed over to the"too preachy" category. It would have been about one third shorter if the same discussion about hypocritical Washington politicians wasn't repeated over and over and over. The word "narcissistic" probably was used more than words like "the", "and", "a."
I get the perspective that Mr Flynn writes from but how about a little editing here! (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-13 05:05:54 EST)

not one of the best in the Mitch Rapp series, but still intertaining. Weak ending.

I have enjoyed the Mitch Rapp series of thrillers written by Vince Flynn - that is, enjoyed the series up until "Pursuit of Honor". I ditto the comments made by others giving one star to this book (I have given the other books in this series 4 to 5-stars). This is ideological drivel at it's most boring, most redundant, and most mundane. Rapp is no longer a character, but rather a caricature. Character development (except for the terrorists) is absent, the plot is weak, the ending even weaker. The "willing suspension of disbelief" is essential to good fiction. I could not get there with this book. Sorry, Vince! I will not be buying any more of your books - there are too many other good authors of the thriller/mystery genre whose efforts far eclipse yours.
My recommendation - don't waste your money buying this book or your time reading it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-13 05:05:54 EST)

Another winner by Vince Flynn--- stayed up till 1 am to finish this last night. Couldn't put it down--- Flynn has completely wrecked my chances for good night sleep the past 4 nights! I loved the way this moved and the character development.... the finish is breathtaking and the pace is frenetic but easy to follow.
Vince Flynn has a style and tempo that makes everyone of his books a MUST READ! Highly recommend! (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-13 05:05:55 EST)

Vince Flynn writes the best, suspenseful books that I've ever read! This one does not disappoint. His stories are so very real that they make you wonder how much of the story is pulled from actual events that we know nothing about? They are very believeable. Once you pick this novel up and get started, it's really hard to put it down. I can't wait for the next one!

Wow, as an ultra-right wing conservative who has enjoyed previous Flynn offerings, this was pure political propaganda at it's finest. Anyone who questions torture, the rule of law, or the constitution is nothing but a traitor to this country and doesn't want to do what is "necessary" in order for our society to be safe. The only way we can be safe, according to Mr. Flynn, is to run roughshod over the US Constitution. Here's a hint Mr. Flynn, I don't read your novels for your political opinions, I read them to be entertained. Save the political commentary for a WSJ Op-Ed, give me Mitch Rapp without the preaching.

Vince is fading as a writer and Mitch Rapp has become a boring character. Same old themes and sterotypes dominate this poorly written book. Will not purchase another Flynn book and would encourage others to think twice before reading this poorly constructed novel.

I think it's time that Vince Flynn ended his string of books with his character Mitch Rapp. I have read everyone of his books and rated them all excellent, except for this one which I down rated to very good.
I hope Flynn continues to write about terrorism - God knows this country needs to wake up to fight terrorism, or we'll perish as a nation and Flynn has an excellent handle on it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-13 05:05:55 EST)

I have read every Mitch Rapp novel. There is only one word to dscribe the first half of this book. BORING! Mitch Rapp is heard preaching & scolding everyone in his inner circle(sometimes more than once): his long time mentor, his underling, the wife of his underling, his boss (the head of the CIA) & even a committee of the U.S.Senate. His smugness & arrogance are a real drag. The book picks up a good bit when some action actually occurs in the latter portion, but it is not enough to keep the book from being BORING!

The whole book works diligently to present the CIA's "cowboys" values, based perhaps on a two-headed coin. One side of the coin states that ends justify means; the other side holds that a wrong makes it OK to respond with another wrong, i.e. "Two wrongs become a right!" Sen. Ogden's position on U.S. constitutional legalities and a morality, possibly based on Vatican II revelations, is very thorough. Nevertheless it loses some steam because Flynn presents her as one of those who "drank the Kool-Aid"
The first 3/4 parts of the book were real page turners, though the last parts of the book seemed to me to be the result of Flynn's desire to wrap this book up and meet the publisher's deadline. All in all, many hawks obviously love this well-written book. Members of Pax Christi might likely see it for what it is, namely a rationalized justification of illegal pro-violence as a moral solution. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-13 05:05:55 EST)
