I just purchased this through Amazon (March, 2010), and then read the reviews afterward. I was unaware that there were problems with the early editions. I was relieved when mine arrived and it is a third printing. I haven't used it yet, so I only gave it 4/5 stars, but I'm sure it will be sufficient.

Product came in excellent condition. Took quite awhile to arrive in the mail, longer than what I expected. So if you need something quickly this would have not been a good option.

The book came promptly and was exactly what I had ordered at a cheaper price than I had seen in book stores.

Association's Publication Manual (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition by American Psychological Association (Paperback - Jul 2009)).

This is the 6th ed of the APA manual. It is in it's third printing. Make sure you get the 2nd or 3rd printing as the first printing of the APA manual contains errors. If you are in a stats class you can't afford to make any errors on your research papers.

Most of my college writing requires me to follow specific rules of formatting, style, citation, and such. Just when I had started to master the 5th edition APA people decide to throw another one of their books to tweak how things are done. I hate APA, but I had to buy the book so I did... This was one of the HAD to buy purchases, not the WANT to... Do you like my review?

Got this for a graduate class. My professor is visually impaired and is still waiting on the audio version at a cheap or free price. We have to write in APA format but haven't used it yet. Will have to later in the semester for a 10-page paper.

Several new updates on apa format inside the pretty blue covers. If you research/write you must have it.

After using the 5th edition, I really enjoy the new 6th edition. There are fewer pages, but more information. It's more succinct. It's also better organized, and has a better index. Using the 6th edition this week, I was able to answer a number of formatting questions that I couldn't figure out with the old edition. These were questions about using bullets and numbered lists, formatting references from online research, and formatting quotations.

I received the 3rd printing (December 2009) of the 6th edition.

The book came before its scheduled time. It was the most accurate publication of the APA 6th edition.

No issues all went smoothly, I got what I expected in good condition and quickly.

I ordered a book for school in January and still have not gotten it. This seller is not dependable. Spend the extra dollar, and purchase what you need from someone who will deliver what you order!

I bought the wrong print, the first print!!! APA had a recall but They did not send me the shipping label at all. I could not return it.

If you must comply with the APA formatting, then this is the authoritative guide that must be used. In several sections, the text is clear and easy to read. However, it is not always easy to find specific topics of interest. For example, I wanted to find if the title on the third page (used as heading for introductory paragraph) should be in bold or not plain. I eventually gave up looking for the governing rule and simply copied the example.

I received mine and immediately looked to see which printing it was. It was NOT the first edition/printing. So it would seem the problem has been corrected. (This would not be Amazon's fault if something was wrong in the book though, it would be the publisher of the book!)

Product was delivered as specified and in the condition specified. Product is useful for schoolwork and is worth the buy.

I've been meaning to purchase this book since its release in July 2009 but was very hesitant, fearing that I might receive the infamous "first printing laden with errors". However, I need this for school and placed my order on Jan 31, 2010. My copy arrived today and instead of "Second printing: August 2009", mine states:

"Second printing: October 2009
Third printing: December 2009"

on the copyright page. I called the APA Service Center and their representative said that all copies except for the first printing should be free of errors. He also said that they are probably on their 7th printing now (not sure how true this is). Nonetheless, I am glad that Amazon finally seems to be selling the corrected version.

As you've probably already read, there are lots of errors in this edition of the book. I would encourage you to wait until further printings are done to ensure you get a corrected version, or just use the web-site for clarification. If you've a paper riding on your correct use of APA, then seriously reconsider this choice, and if you do purchase it, make sure you get the pages of corrections that have been issued for reference.

This edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) Manual is much smaller (in volume) than previous versions. It is written in a style that should be easily learned by new students, even though the basic principles remain challenging until well practiced. The 6th edition lacks a single page (which was found in previous editions) for "common forms" of reference listings, thus the omission forces the student to "dig" much deeper into the text to find the common forms for periodicals and non-periodicals. Also, the publisher has remained very vague in this edition (as in past editions) relative to the rules of abbreviation use for references and in-text citation. I wish that the American Psychological Association would strictly state that abbreviations are absolutely forbidden within reference listings and within in-text citations (with the only exceptions being for the allowable APA abbreviations list). Regardless, the 6th edition comes with ample guidance for its use from the APA website, thereby minimizing the learning curve for new students. Experienced APA users with find the manual an easier reference, in my opinion.

This new edition is more condensed and informative than the previous version. Bought this because it was required for school. Didin't feel it was necessary, but am so glad to have this new version. Much more visual examples of papers, citations, tables, appendices, etc.

I purchase the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. 6th edition as required text for graduate level class. The book arrived within the committed timeframe and in good condition.

If you are required to write in APA format, a current edition manual is a must. There are good programs for writing the paper, and good on line sources, however you can't beat the ease of looking it up in the book on your desk. A must for everyone required to write in APA format for school or submission for publication.

Amazon is still shipping the first printing even with the disclaimer saying they have taken it out of inventory!

The item arrived promplty and in great shape. The shipment included a form outlining the sellers policy for returns should they be necessary. Although I plan on keeping the item knowing that a seller has a return policy is very helpful.

I just purchased in-store the spiral bound Publication Manual 6 edition from Barnes and Noble. I was suprised to find that the copy I purchased is the third printing. According to the APA Web site all corrections were made in the second printing: August 2009. [...]
I could not find which printing Amazon is shipping. Eventually, I hope Amazon will post it on the product Web page.

This publication manual would have been an improvement if there were not 8 pages of corrections needed to use the first printing. I wonder how many corrections will be needed for the second printing? The manual may be easier to use, it is certainly smaller but I am personally offended by the "we don't look at it that way" attitude of the APA when it come to their responsibility to those who purchased the first printing. This is one more example of a monopoly thumbing its nose at everyone else for their mistakes.

I was nervous about ordering this because of the problems with the first printing, but I just got my copy from Amazon today (January 20) and it is indeed the second printing. Thanks!

I am doing some writing which requires the information generally provided by this book. But what I found between the covers of this edition was useless dribble. If you depend on this for your work, do as another reviewer says and wait for a truly corrected version. To even allow this to be published speaks to the awful state of affairs in the publishing world today.

The guide serves its purpose. It is a shame that students are practically forced to buy this jibberish. I will use it to meet the needs and wishes of my instructors, but any institution forcing a student to use so-called writing styles should provide the instruction and materials to allow one to meet requirements at a low cost. The fleecing of America continues.......

This book is ok. I'm taking college courses and every paper as to be formatted in the APA style. There's plenty of websites and other books out there, but I thought I would be better of using the original book. I consider myself pretty intelligent, but this book is not what I was looking for. When I'm writing my paper and need to look up how to cite a reference, I just want to open the book, look and close it. This book is written at a level that's slightly above my head...it's just a little too technical for my taste. I think that I will stick with the websites and cite machines that are available on the internet. The good news is that Amazon.com is now shipping the corrected version of the 6th edition.

Given all the emotional responses around the mistakes in the new edition, I was worried about ordering my copy. However, it just arrived, and as promised, it's the corrected version (the second printing) of the 6th edition. The changes to the style included in the manual are an improvement, particularly in the way electronic resources are cited. Additionally, the organization of this edition is better. Overall, I'm pleased.

I ordered the 6th ed APA to have a copy of the latest APA book to assist me in referencing works correctly. I liked the spiral so that I could flip through the book without breaking the back of the book--user friendly. However, within a week of receiving the manual, I was notified that it contained incorrect information and that I could go to a website to find the corrected information and download it for my use. The whole idea of purchasing the book was to have all the information in an organized (same sized paper) book. I think APA should recall all first editions and then give those of us who bought the 1st editions, 2nd editions at no cost. I am not happy with this purchase. It has proven to be a hastle.

I incorrectly assumed that a) previous editions wouldn't be popping up early in searching on amazon (sent back 5th edition) and that b) they wouldn't ship the first printing of this manual, since there are known errors. Unfortunately I hadn't used it until the past two weeks, where I discovered that this is the first printing still, and that APA's exchange program "expired" on Dec 23, 2009.

The 2nd printing of the book is out and all the corrections are complete. This edition is a great deal easier to use than the 5th edition. I just wish it had come out about a year ago!

It is absolutely hilarious that APA, the source, that tells us how to write and publish cannot write or publish a correct manual. Make sure you find out whether the 6th APA manual that you are purchasing is correct. I guess that's what APA gets for always updating.

After responsibly removing the faulty first printing (or claiming to do so) Amazon was again selling the book as of mid December and included a disclaimer that these were ONLY the corrected second printing of the Sixth Edition. Ordered on 12/18, received on 12/22--the error laden first edition. That's right, the book they "supposedly" purged from their inventory arrived with me paying expedited shipping charges for the privilege. After a delightful call to outsourced customer service on the subcontinent, a return label was generated and a prorated (!) portion of my shipping will be refunded at a date TBD.

Moral of the story: if you are also a detail-oriented graduate student it will behoove you to check what edition you are actually receiving once they ship this title again. Apparently Amazon cannot be taken at their word to deliver what they advertise. How sad that the APA cannot be troubled to proofread their own style manual. Epic Fail.

When I received the book, not too long after that, I received an email that it was the wrong edition and to contact the writer and send it back. It is a wonderful book that will definitely be needed in the field that I am studying.

Amazon should NOT be selling this first, error-laden printing of this book! The APA has issued a second printing with errors corrected. This is NOT clear from the Amazon website. I am VERY disappointed. Now I have to go and print out the pages of corrections (found on the APA website, thankfully).

I don't know why APA has to change inconsequential methods every two years. All this does is cause havoc for those of us at university. Sure I can understand that as new technologies come around, we need to figure out how to deal with them when citing, but do we need to change the number of spaces between sentences every two years? Well, it is irrelevant because we are held hostage to this illogical thinking and it is beyond the student's control. I say we need to do away with APA and create "The ANA Manual"!

To add insult to injury this time out, apparently this new edition/first printing is filled with inaccuracies! So I had learned all the new guidelines this semester for nothing, and now have to figure out what is accurate or not over vacation. Yippee....

APA has produced a large list of errors in this book. They will send you cut-outs you can paste into your book with these corrections, but you may as well buy the 2nd printing. Not Amazon's fault, of course! Shipping was fast, product in great condition just wrong printing.

I ordered this book in October, got the first printing. After calling APA no less then 20 times over the course of 3 days in an attempt to get a new book and always finding a busy phone line, I turned to Amazon for help. Amazon offered me another book. I asked the customer care rep 5x if I was getting the second printing and I was assured that I was. On December 7th another first printing came to my door. Why haven't these books been distroyed?!

I bought this version on release and I now get an e-mail saying it has errors. What is the good of having a book on how to write scholarly articles when the book itself cannot even do it?

How disappointing that Amazon is still sending out the first edition of this product, despite being aware of the errors, rather than the second edition, which has been corrected. Shame on you, Amazon, for knowingly selling a faulty product!
