|
The most up-to-date, comprehensive pregnancy guide on the market, delivering an unforgettable visual journey of developing life.
Week-by-week pregnancy format is easy-to-follow, enjoyable to read, and follows the standard development schedule used by the OB/GYN profession. Detailed descriptions and eight pages of amazing full-color in-utero photographs guide expectant parents through a visual journey of the monthly changes of their growing baby. The only pregnancy book on the market authored by a leading OB/GYN who is a doctor, an academic, and a mother. Straightforward, comforting professional advice on the topics that are most important to expectant parents: having a healthy pregnancy, real-life labor, preparing for life as a family (both emotionally and financially), and juggling a career and motherhood. Exclusive interactive due-date wheel makes it easy to determine conception date, week of pregnancy, and delivery date. Special sections on labor and delivery, feeding options, and the first 12 weeks after baby?s birth. Important checklists, including one for each prenatal check-up help the expectant mother prepare for and make the most out of each session with her doctor. |

This is a very informational and useful book that is divided into trimesters and then by week. Great pictures too.

This book is a great week by week guide to pregnancy. I thought that it would be so dull that I would just flip through the book and be done in a day. But it's an engaging, fascinating, and an easy read. In spots, it's downright amusing. It's realistic about pregnancy dietary goals (the author accepts that you're going to eat ice cream and chocolate). It's well organized so that you can skip areas that don't interest you or pertain to your situation. There are little colored markers at the end of each page so that you can easily find your week of pregnancy. The book is segmented into trimesters and at the start of each there is an index. There's a glossary in the back. All of this makes for easier navigating.
I deducted a 1/2 of a star because there are only about 7 color photos at the start of the book. Also, some of the information is covered more than once, making sections of the book repetitive. For example, there are two sections on the stages of labor. Many topics were given this same treatment. One in depth segment is enough. All in all, it's a great book. I especially enjoyed reading about the baby's development from week to week. There's also information on what you can expect to be experiencing week to week. The book ends with a week by week section of what you'll feel like for the 12 weeks after birth. This postpartum section also details your baby's development. It's a wonderful and comprehensive resource for pregnancy info. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-10 02:58:21 EST)

When I found out I was unexpectedly (but excitedly) pregnant for the first time, I immediately logged onto to Amazon and ordered several books. Even at 30, I was clueless as to what to expect and was not prepared.
Out of all of the books I got, this is by far my favorite. It goes week by week and tells you what to expect, what should/could happens and what to talk to your OBGYN about. Most importantly, it tells you what is normal and what is not. It also goes into detail about prenatal testing and when you should expect different milestones (like feeling the baby move, etc etc) will happen. Lots of extras, and a great honest approach to pregnancy. I highly recommend to all of my friends and family who are expecting. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-11-25 09:06:52 EST)

It is a great book, very helpful. It is really explains everything week by week.Your doctor can't tell you everything, because he doesn't have enough time for it. So you don't have to wait your next doctor's appointment to found an answer. It's good to have a book like this at hand.

This book is GREAT! It is formatted by weeks, so you can always know what will be going on with your body and it is packed with information. This book was also wonderful for my husband to read through as well to get updated weekly about what was going on in my body. Out of the 5 or 6 pregnancy books, this one is the one I use the most. It is well worth the money!

I bought this book during my third pregnancy and I thought it was pretty good. I like that it's done week by week instead of month by month like other books I've read. It has quite a bit of good, relative information also. I would recommend this book to anyone.

This book is great! I used it throughout my pregnancy and was excited each week to read and learn what was happening with Baby. I would recommend this for any expectant mom and it would make an excellent shower gift as well!

This book is full of lots of information that I needed. Because it was so informative, it reduced my phone calls to my friends and gave me info at my fingertips. I prefer the weekly format rather than the monthly format that other books have. I use this book along with another one (monthly). The two serve as my pregnancy resources. This will be my first child so I was full of questions and am very happy to say few were left unaswered.

I strongly recommend this book for any woman or couple who is pregnant. I can't wait until the next week of my pregnancy starts so that I can read the next section.

This book is definitely lacking in the resources and research department.
Only two doula organizations listed? What about Birth Arts International- [...] ALACE- [,...] CBI- [..] Additionally: The biased and blatantly wrong paragraph about homebirth is untrue and contradicting the research that says it is safe. Did the author read the studies? Asking permission to have a doula, that is what is wrong with birth in hospitals. Women are paying for a service, birth is theirs, they do not need to ask permission to have a doula present. Your body, your baby, your choice. You are the expert of your body. Birth is about empowering women. Waterbirth? Waterbirth is a safe option for women having babies, yet it is not mentioned at all. Midwifery- Midwifery is completely left out as an option women have, Nurse Midwives, Certified Practical Midwives, Licensed Midwives. Midwives have the best outcomes overall, so it is interesting that this was completely left out of this "evidence" based text. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-04 01:16:05 EST)

The book itself is written well. It lacked the week by week or even month by month photos that I had hoped for. I was really searching for a book that was full of photos. I already have the "What to Expect When Your Expecting" book. "Pregnancy" was too similiar to the book. Almost all the same things covered. Though I would have to say I would give "What to Expect" as a gift not this one. I had a miscarriage and this book didn't cover what to do if something goes wrong, "What to expect" does. It also doesn't cover spouses or other important peoples roles. All in all I'm still enjoying the book but it didn't meet my expectations.

this book was recommended by a friend who had read both this and "what to expect..." when she was pregnant. she preferred the structure of this book. so far (i am 16 weeks in) it has been right on the money. it is very straightforward. i like the week by week approach.

Love the week by week format and the easy index in the back. Written by an OB/GYN with great credentials and an informal yet professional writing style. I checked out a few books from the library, borrowed a few, browsed several, read reviews on several and this is the ONLY one I purchased. I never felt I needed anything else by my bedside. When I wanted a second opinion I asked my doctor or looked it up on Baby Center online.

This book really helped me with my pregnancy. I new exactly what to expect and the little things that might have scared me were explained and eased my mind. My husband also liked for me to read to him what was going on with the baby. It brought us closer together. I would recommend this book to first time mothers especially and other mothers that want a refresher course.

I purchased this book as well as the "Pregnancy Bible" book. This book only gives week by week plus little information afterwards. I highly recommend the "Pregnancy Bible" book. It gives week by week along with a picture of what your baby looks like that week. Also it gives you so much information about your pregnancy i.e. what to expect, questions to ask etc. If your looking for a 2nd reference book this could be it but if you only want one book I highly suggest splurging and buying the "Pregnancy Bible" by Joanne Stone & Keith Eddleman. Best wishes on your pregnancy.

I bought this for my sister who is pregnant for the first time and she LOVES it. I also checked out several other popular pregnancy books from the library for her and she kept going back to this one and did not want any of the others. Dr. Riley goes into great detail from week to week about the development of the baby, what the mother could be experiencing and what can be expected and yes she does cover the negative aspects. No one wants to read or hear about what bad situations could occur but it is better to be informed of what could go wrong than be surprised if something does happen. It is a great book and I highly recommend it!

This is my fourth child and I was bored with my old pregnancy books. This book contains good information, but the writing style seemed strange. The author seems to have some "issues" that I found distracting. When talking about ultrasounds she says that "you might see your baby. . .frowning as if to say, 'You again?'" I guess she just seems very negative about pregnancy in general.
And the pictures are nice, but there are only 7 in the whole book and they are the same ones I have seen in magazines. Overall I prefer "Your Pregnancy Week by Week." (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-11-02 19:18:47 EST)

I found this book to be an excellent reference and informative of my weekly progress, as well as what to expect in coming weeks. The color photos of the baby's progress are amazing, the section layout comprehensive, the glossary and relative questions helpful. I felt it was a bonus for Dr. Riley to cover post-partum and baby care, questions and information about the many pre-natal testing out there. It helps educate and inform without overloading the reader.
I felt the book was easy to understand, educational and in my opinion this is one of the best books that a mom-to-be could enjoy, and have recommended it to many friends who are newly expecting. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-10-05 18:54:08 EST)

I don't care for the way this book is organized. I have only glanced at "What to Expect...", but the two books seem very similar, with small sections (paragraph-length or sometimes longer) in each chapter that are usually not in any obviously logical order, which makes it difficult to reference. The information is also pretty basic. I would say this reads more like tiny magazine articles than any comprehensive and useful guide to rely on in your pregnancy. I haven't found any other guide that really excites me, but the closest I've found is the "Mayo Clinic's Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy". That book gives all the same information you find in this plus more in a more logical format.
You should check this out from the library before deciding to buy! (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-08-30 02:57:28 EST)

This book is almost entirely week by week information, so what you get is more detailed. At the end there are small sections on feeding your baby, the postpartum weeks, and questions for your doctor. Each week has sections on Your Baby, Your Body, Your Self, Diet and Exercise, and Common Questions. It also includes a pregnancy wheel and full color photos of a fetus at different stages, which are nice bonuses. The writing is simple yet thorough and I found that the topics she chose to write about were often extremely relevent to what I was going through each week.
