Here's a fantastic learning tool for anyone needing to learn the pharmacology basics quickly. This beautifully designed pack of flash cards presents information on over 200 of the most commonly used drugs. This package is great for quick review and completely portable. On one side of each card you'll find the drug name and pronunciation, on the other short formatted notes, carefully honed to give you just the information you need. With their attractive design and clear color-coding, these cards will have you mastering the pharmacology and drug basics in record time.

The Brenner's flashcards were very useful in studying for my pharmacology final (mini-board). I didn't use them throughout the pharm course because I had not bought them yet. However, I believe that they would have been a useful adjunct to my studying. They give you the important information. However, they don't give you every detail, so you will have to use other resources when studying for your exams. I would highly recommend them as a way to quickly review the material.

Consistent amount of information on each card. Simple. Not over-packed with unnecessary details, but not as spotty as BRS.

These cards are very well made and organized easily for review. However, many of the drugs I need to know for PCOL class are not covered in these flash cards, and the cards also contain drugs I don't need to know (at least for my school's exams.) The cards are basically the most commonly tested drugs for Step 1 and so would be great for that, but if you're looking for a comprehensive list of drugs in flash card format I'd suggest another choice.

I've been using these to study for Step 1 of the USMLE and find them to be great. The basics: mechanism of action, clinical indications and adverse effects are all on each card. I think they are less detailed than some cards -- no info. on the pharmacokinetics, but I don't really need that information at this stage. I would recommend these cards without hesitation.

These cards come in a great box and are very high quality, so that is nice. The problem is that they don't cover many of the drugs I'm required to know. This makes it hard to use them as a study aid because you tend to forget about the drugs that aren't included.
I don't take step 1 for another 5 months so I can't comment on their usefulness in that regard. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-19 01:31:25 EST)

The Brenner Pharmacology Flash Cards are an excellent source for the cards that are in it. My only real disappointment has been in the number of cards. Many of the drugs in our course (medical pharm) did not have drug cards, however the drugs that don't have cards have FDA required insert information available at the Elsevier Studentconsult.com.
Each card includes the name and class on the front (with brand/generic names). Then on the back it includes the front's information with the Clinical Class Pharmacologic class MOA Clinical Indications ADR's Special information Similar drugs These aren't the exact titles, but it makes the point. For the drugs that I was tested over, I had all I needed in the lecture materials, but the cards sounded down the information and I believe will greatly help for board preparations. They are set up in a clear, concise format, with very straightforward organization. So far they include the large majority of drugs that we're covering in the med school curriculum.
