Colorful pictures and simple rhyming texts help children guess what's peeking through the die-cut windows in these two fun board books. The anticipation of what's hiding on the next page and th bright, engaging illustrations will keep youngsters guessing and giggling all the way to the suprise endings.

Nina Laden's illustrations in this simple, rhyming board book are truly magical. The format is straightforward: on alternating two-page spreads, the words "Peek a" are repeated, opposite an illustrated page with a die-cut hole, behind which lurks a cow ("MOO!"), a green ghost ("BOO!"), and a mirror (you guessed it, "YOU!"). The youngest readers will delight in trying to guess who--or what--is peeking through the window, and can easily grip the baby-fist-size holes to turn the pages for the answers. The picture of the "ZOO!" is fabulous. Through the hole, all that can be seen is a wild pattern of colors, stripes, and spots. Turn the page, and find a wild kingdom of animals, one in front of the other: peacock, zebra, penguin, cheetah, elephant, and more. Ready for more peekaboo fun? Try Nina Laden's Ready, Set, Go! . This is my 1 year old son's favorite book. He starts kicking his feet the moment it's selected and giggles and coos the whole way through. Perfect for baby through toddler!

This is my 9 month old's favorite book. He smiles whenever he sees it and breaks out into a laugh when I turn the first page to Peek-a-Moo! It holds his attention every time. He's surprisingly not that interested in the mirror in the back, but I like it because then I get to see his face when he's sitting on my lap to read. This is one of the few books I've seen him "reading" all by himself. He just can't get enough of it. I'm actually online to order myself a second copy because the corners of this one are well chewed :) I highly recommend this book.

Our son loves this book. The play on phonetics is great for learning word association. It is a daily treat to read to him and he loves the surprises revealed of each section. A highly recommended book for toddlers.

It's okay for what it is but it is not inspired. There is a mirror at end of book which baby liked to look at. I think when he gets older, he can play at guessing what is on next page. But it is really short, only five or so peek-a-who's. And the other reviewer was right. There is no narrative thread that ties the whole book together. The book itself seems to be of good quality, thick boards, good printing.

If you are going to get a book along these lines, I would highly recommend the "Peekaboo Zoo: A Lift-The-Flap Book" instead While this book, may be interesting for young babies (7-10 months is my guess) it holds no real mystery or fun, and the appeal is very quickly lost for most children I have read it to. Just my two cents!

My 1 year son loves this book. It's easy for him to turn the pages. It's bright and colorful. He loves looking at himself in the mirror and making silly faces. It's a fun book to add to your collection!!!

This book is short. Peek-A- Moo/Boo/Zoo/Choo-Choo/You (with a mirror on the last page). I have it memorized. Very short which can be burdonsome for parents having to read it over and over... But it's very colorful and fun! There's a hole on every right-hand page to 'peek' at what's to come. My sons favorite is the 'choo-choo' page. We have had this book for a year this Christmas and it's still a favorite!! I definitely recommend this to parents. Your child will love it!!

We first got this book from our local library and loved it so much that we had to buy it. We liked the clever use of the peek-a-boo game made into a lift the flap book. Our 6 month old likes the colors and tries to open the flaps (which are nice because they can't bend easily). Our 2 yr old likes to "read" the different words, like zoo, boo, choo-choo, etc. It's a colorful, durable board book that is fun book for young children.

This book has a strong odor. Despite the fact that I put it on the porch for a month hoping the wind may blow away some of the smell, it still has that odor. I think it's because the pages are laminated by plastic. Anyway, I didn't give it to my baby.

I am a picky book person and I am always looking for a book for my kids. I read great reviews about it and so decided to get it. When I first received it my first thought was, that's it?? I was disappointed just looking through it. However, the first time I read it to my 12 month old he was sold!! He kept bringing this book to us handing it to us and whining because he wanted us to read it to him. 2 months later it's still our favorite....besides the SO Big! Elmo book in case you're looking for another. When I turn the pages he can read it to me. I say Peek-Aaa......... and he says "Boo", or "Moooo" I think this book is where he first started saying animal sounds although Moo is really the only animal sound in it.

My son got this book for Christmas when he was 6 months old. It was simple enough for him and kept his attention. He's now 15 months and he still loves this book. So much so that I had to bind the book again with tape to keep it together! He still anticipates each page and loves the last page with the mirror.

Our 18 month old daughter loves to bring this book to us, to read to her. She still gets excited on the last couple of pages, with the mirror. Easy, fast read, especially with a toddler anxiously turning the pages so fast! lol. The only minor down side is the cover also has a cut-out hole so, the cover is bent and very worn from her using that to open/turn the page.

I bought this book for my son when he was almost one year old, and he just loves it. This fun, peek-a-boo style book has very simple guessing rhymes with beautiful bright illustrations and it taught my boy how to say 'Moo'!
6 months on he still loves to 'Moo' and 'Boo' along with the book. I highly recommend this book for older babies/toddlers. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-03 07:15:27 EST)

My daughter has enjoyed this book since she was 2 months old. She would sit through Peek-a Who? three times in a row when she wouldn't sit through anything else. She would smile at the illustrations, especially the owl and the cow. No, it isn't great literature. The brilliance of Peek-a Who? is that it can capture the attention of extremely young babies.
As a toddler's book? Eh, I'm not impressed. But as a first book for the very young, Peek-a Who? gets 5 stars. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-03 07:15:27 EST)

I have a very active 10 month old boy who does not like to sit still very often to read. When we read to him, he likes to try and rip the pages and flip the book over, so we often give him something else to play with while we read a book to him. Peek-a-WHO was recommended to me by a friend who said her baby absolutely loved the book, so I thought I'd check it out. I can't believe it...but my son LOVES this book. He always sits perfectly still, entranced with the book. He never fights to flip the book over, doesn't need to play with anything else, he just stares at each page intently and occasionally pokes his fingers through the holes. He can sit through the reading multiple times and he often picks this book up to play with on his own during the day. I wish it was longer, simply because he loves it so much.

Our 22-month baby loves this book. Although it only has 5 or 6 pages it is small enough and sturdy enough for her to use alone. The illustrations are colorful and plentiful, and she loves seeing herself on the last page. Fun combined with learning for a small price!!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-01-03 07:15:27 EST)

This is definitely my son's favorite book, (he's 8 months old). I have loads of books for him, but none hold his attention like this one. The peek-a-boo holes keep him intrigued and he loves the bright, contrasting images. He'll sit still for almost 10 minutes while we read this book, a miracle! I highly recommend this one, especially to parents of active babies.

This is my daughter's (11 months old) all-time favorite book! Since she was about 7-8 months she has been borderline obsessed with this book. Whenever she sees it, she picks it up and gives it to us to read to her, she turns the pages, and she laughs every time. When she gets to the mirror at the end, she goes in super close and gives herself a kiss. It is so simple, it's hard to believe it would be such a hit, but believe me, it is! A must-have to get little ones interested in reading!

Babies and toddlers love the peek-a-boo game. This ten page board book features peek-a-boos on every other page. Clues are given with die cut holes that allow babies and toddlers to anticipate the animal behind the peek-a-boo! The mirror at the end is a great expected treat for the child too. As a few other reviewers have noted--thankfully the book is short as many of us have a child who wants to read the book over and over and over!

I chose this book for my daughter (3 mos. at the time, 9 mos. now) because of the reviews, but when I got it I thought "This is boring." Well, it may seem boring to me, but my daughter loves it. Her face lights up when she sees it, and she will even stop what she is doing and come to me if I am holding the book. At first she seemed to like the simple rhymes. Then she started kissing herself when she got to the mirror at the end. Now she likes putting her hands through the holes in the "peek" pages. Somehow the simplicity of it all makes it endlessly fascinating. When I want my daughter to calm down, this is the book I turn to first.

I expected this book to be much better, especially after reading the reviews. But I'm really not impressed at all. Just not a very creative attempt at rhyming. Doesn't really make sense - the rhyming is all "oo" sounds but really the context seems off. And even the owl on the first flap falls flat. The ghost doesn't make sense either. It's a strange combination of being too simple (with basic rhymes) and too complex (really young kids are going to have a hard time grasping "zoo" "boo" ghosts, etc.). If you want a good rhyming and flap book, I'd go with some of the ones from DK Publishing or Baby Enstein's Mirror Me book.

Our 10-month-old baby has loved this book (as well as "Grow Up" by the same author) for months now. He consistently loves to turn the pages, hear the embellishments we sound out for each page, and anxiously awaits the "surprise baby" in the mirror at the end of the book. His number one favorite book and a quick read to put a smile on his face when time is short.

Love this book. Bought it because of the reviews for my then 6 month old. He didn't seem to care for it. From around 10 months this is THE book he pulls from the pile (he's nearly a year). With the peek-a-book cut out he is able to easily turn the pages himself, making the story reading so much more exciting for him. We make noises for each of the hidden things (owl, cow, ghost, zoo, train) and then give kisses into the mirror. Although he can only say a few words "goh" (ghost) is one of them!

As a grown up, I thought this book was a little silly and not much to it. However, my 10 month old went crazy over it. He "reads" all by himself. The last page is mirrored and he loves looking at himself. The pages have cut outs that make the book interactive for him. He brings the book to me to read over and over! He is now 14 months old and still loves this book.
We took it to the doctor's office today. I was reading to him in the waiting room and a group of children gathered to hear the book. Several of the children were older (3 and 4), they were trying to guess what was in the cut outs and guess the possible rhyming words. They were tickled pink at the mirror on the last page. I would say that this book was a big hit with the kids so it must be a good book! By the way, I had to read it again... (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-04-17 04:18:32 EST)

My daughter got the book before her first birthday (she is almost 9). It was her favorite then...All you had to say was "Peek a WHo?" and she'd go crawling across the house looking for it, and wouldn't return until she found it, and then you had to read it. My second daughter, now age 1, loves it just as much. Yes, it is simple, and there aren't a lot of words, but it engages them and they love to turn the pages. And in response to the post complaining about the presence of a ghost...that is my daughter's favorite page...she turns to it and says "O"...she doesn't see a ghost, she see's cheerios for eyes. It was a winner when my oldest was little, and my youngest loves it too!!!

We began reading Peek-a-Who to our daughter at 3-4 months and it quickly became the one thing that would calm her down -- at least for a few minutes! (Very handy especially when on a plane.) What we noticed is how quickly she came to "expect" the sights and sounds of Peek-a-Who, and how fun it was for her to find herself at the end of the book. I could even say the book to her without either of us seeing the book and she enjoyed the sing-songiness of it. She's almost 11-months-now and prefers the Maisy books but we still all enjoy Peek-a-Who just about every other day. I highly recommend this book for little brains!

This is a really cute book as reviews attest. My son loves it. I will say it probably wouldn't make the best gift since within hours of having received it, the edges began to appear worn. The bright green gave way to white, making it look years old after about a week. We have tons of board books, many second hand from other babies, and this is the oldest looking book in our collection, despite being the youngest. The publisher must use a poor quality process or something, too bad because it's a super cute book. We like to read it as... "peek a who?..." then turn the page, rather than just "peek a..." Not sure why the author didn't maximize on the opportunity to rhyme throughout the book since children love that.

I bought this book for my almost 2 yr old daughter and she loves it! Although, I think its more appropriate for a baby. It has great art work but not many words. It has thick cardboard pages, very sturdy and its small in size so it would be great for a baby that is learning to hold on to things.

It is difficult to find excellent books for very young children. Peek-a-WHO is a surprising exception! It contains elements that my daughter loves and that I think have helped support her early literacy: It's got nice board pages. It's small for the hands, has few words, and it contains a surprise ending, It's got the notion of guessing by "peeking" through the hole in the middle to guess what's on the other side. It's got big words that a baby can scan. And it's got a repetitive pattern that I think would help kids start to understand parts of sentences by differentiating the same phrase from the different parts. Peek-a-zoo says it all! A valuable addition to a baby's early library.

THIS MAY SOUND A LITTLE ODD, BUT I TOTALLY LOVED THIS BOOK! I'M A 55 YR OLD GRANDMOTHER AND WHEN I FIRST READ THIS TO MY GRANDSON OF 18 MONTHS, I WENT "CRAZY" FOR IT. I THINK IT WAS WELL DONE FOR SUCH A SMALL NUMBER OF PAGES AND I MUST ADMIT--MY GRANDSON LIKED IT, TOO. A REAL CUTE BUY.
