Let me sum up this book for you - hire an attorney. There, I saved you $20. If you really want to tackle writing your own patent, check out Nolo's books. They're very good.

The book for Dummies told me all I needed to know: My idea is not patentable. Therefore it was easily worth the nominal expense.

Had I read this book six months ago, I'd be the one cashing in on the "TuxSpeedo -- The Banana Hammock for Formal Occasions"! Damn you, Richard Simmons!!

I have the book To Market To Market: Where to Sell or License Your Ideas, Products, and Inventions, Patents, Copyrights and Trademarks for Dummies is a plus to have with it if you desire to or need to patent the ideas you are submitting for sale or license. Highly recommended!

Good straightforward information, to be used as a guide. My son works in a Seoul, Korea patent office and requested I order it for him. Arrived in good condition, timely and he was pleased. Good choice.

If you are in business for yourself, this is one book you definitely want to get. Knowing what you can and can't do in terms of protecting your identity, or not infringing on someone elses, goes a long way to prevent you from investing a lot of time building a reputation around a name, only to have to change it midstream. Beyond that, developing a name you can trademark is one of the ways you can create a "monopoly" in a certain area. Sure others can compete in the same type of business, buy hey, the alphabet and dictionary are limited; there are only so many options available to perfectly describe what it is that you are trying to do. Sometimes there is just one best word that describes it. Why not search for one of those best words when you are dreaming up your next venture. You also want to know how to search to determine if anyone else is already using it in one of the other states. This book shows you how to do that search.
I do not have any products that need patenting, but the copyright and trademark sections were well written, and worth 20 times the price of the book. Highly recommended. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-29 08:57:15 EST)

I bought this book to learn how to draft a patent. Some parts are not writen for a layman and don't do a good job of explaining. And several times he says, "Don't try this yourself, you will need a patent agent."
So then why even have the book? (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-02-21 10:42:30 EST)
