I was pleasantly surprised to discover in "Overcoming Thyroid Disorders," Dr. Brownstein's book for professional and non-professional alike, many references to Dr. Broda Barnes' findings and his book.

Broda Barnes, MD, author of the marvelous work, "Hypothyroidism, The Unsuspected Illness," successfully specialized in thyroid disorders for 40 years. His book has been a priceless source of vital education for me for more than 30 years. Sadly, medics I have spoken to about him were unaware of Dr. Barnes' many decades of specialized practice, valuable research, and his very enlightening and comprehensive book that may help their patients if the doctors availed themselves of this knowledge.

As a very bright student of one of the leading authorities on the thyroid, Dr. Brownstein has become particularly qualified to help many even as Dr. Barnes' effective research and book continue to do. What a great service to Dr. Brownstein's patients and readers!

Dr. Brownstein offers an easy to understand book about how to overcome one of the most common health issues - thyroid problems. He addresses hypothyroid, hyperthyroid and Chronic Fatigue / Fibromyalgia. I was thrilled to see that he addressed the issue of poor converters of T4 to T3, importance of good thyroid supporting nutrients, diet and detoxification. Most doctors will just throw Synthroid at you and call it good without treating the underlying cause. He refers to the importance of iodine and that is covered in his other book "Iodine: Why you need it, Why you can't live without it." That is also an excellent book. All therapies mentioned can be performed by a Holistic Doctor, Alternative Medicine Doctor or Naturopathic Medical doctor. [...]

I am very disappointed. He keeps referring you to his other book on Iodine, which really makes me mad.
This book is also doublespaced, so as to make it bigger than what it actually is, a pamphlet.
This book is mainly about hypothyroid, which I am not.
He talks alot about CFS, Fibro more than he talks about anything else, and most of this info is on the internet already.
A waste of money because he's a scam artist trying to sell his other books. He is not trying to help anyone.
He must've paid the other people to write such glowing reviews.
Also, you would need a naturopathic doctor or regular physician to follow some of his suggestions.

This book can be purchased directly from Doctor Brownstein's web site www.centerforholisticmedicine.com for $15.00. I was appalled to see the markup on these books. When people have serious health concerns I think it is a crime to take advantage of them for the mighty dollar.

As a practicing physician and someone new to the "alternative" world of medicine, Dr. Brownstein's book was indeed helpful. My wife has Hashimoto's and the detail and references in this book have helped me to guide her therapy. Easy to read but detailed, this book supplements Richard Shames' "Thyroid Power: 10 Steps to Total Health" as an excellent addition to any thyroid patient's reference library!

Once again Dr. Brownstein has put together a great book. This book provides an easy to read way to learn about a number of disorders that can be very difficult to treat. Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in particular have baffled M.D.'s for years and Dr. Brownstein provides a fresh and helpful view.I recommend this to patients and physicians alike.

This is one of the most thorough books that I have ever read on thyroid problems. Dr. Brownstein not only covers hypothyroidism, he also reviews how to treat Graves' and Hashimoto's disease. As a physician, I have found this book invaluable. This book is a must for those who have thyroid problems and those that treat thyroid problems. I recommend it to all of my patients.
