I bought this book thinking that I will learn to invest in stock options (as I dont even know O of options). This book defeated me completely. What I was looking for a book which will say "Sam is thinking of investing options he chooses some company XYZ, He sees that current stock price is 50 dollars. How can he go about making a call or put. What is the strict price he shd think. Who decides the premium price. What does bid / ask prices are. What sort of choices does he has. (Day to day story of someone investing in options).

Simply put the book shd have taught options step by step. Instead of repeatedly saying "option is a right but not an obligation ..." (ok this may be necessary).

This book is very well written, clearly illustrated. It covers all the basics you need to know about option and some most popular strategies. Although it does not include those fancy strategies, IMAO, if you can not make money on these most popular ones (covered option, spreads, strangle and straddle, etc.), probably you won't make money on those fancier ones either. More energy should be spent on market reading and equity analysis, instead of wasting time on calculate fancy combination.

On the other hand, this book also covers FA / TA essentials, trading psychology, money management, which makes it a complete book for trading, not just an option facts book.

Covers the Greeks and most common option strategies very well, along with very good intro chapters to fundamental, technical, and market analysis, and a discussion on trading psychology. Guy writes and explains well, and has a knack for voicing important details and underlying assumptions that many other writers forget their audience of beginners don't know. A very good starting point and survey of the topic, before venturing into more in-depth studies.

Very basic book about options. Made really easy to understand the topic, very good for beginners. My rating is 3.5 stars. I did not like that the author indicated a lot of links like "I trade like this..." or "This site explains Fibonacci well..." and when you go there it costs literally an arm and a leg to get the materials. There's some very good stuff for free on the net about fibs and others. In general, is a very good book for beginners

This book is great for learning the terminology of OPTION's. Easy to understand graphs augment the words for learning what VERTICAL and what CALENDAR SPREAD's are. Everything else is/are just various combination(s) of these very basic two. That's it!! It's that simple.

From there, learn the four Greeks...
- DELTA,
- GAMMA,
- THETA, and
- VEGA...

then,
- find a product with MASSIVE LIQUIDITY (like the SPYders),
- place a Position (SELL JUNK (OTM Options) with either an IRON CONDOR or a BUTTERFLY)) 4-10 weeks out before expiration with 60% to 75% chance of success,
- collect $$$ off the THETA DECAY (24/7, including Sat, Sun, & Hol),
- GET OUT 4-10 days before expiration,
- MANAGE RISK (try to keep a DELTA NEUTRAL situation), and
- Be happy with your small change... they do add up!!

The rest? IMHO,
- Charts,
- Technical Analysis,
- Fundamental Analysis,
- Supports,
- Candles,
- watching MSNBC,
- consulting your Fairy Godmother, etc etc... FORGET IT.

Nobody knows anything. 85% of Mutual Fund Managers CONSISTENTLY FAIL to outperform the S&P500.
Also, please remember, the DJIA is a MANIPULATED NUMBER!! I think of the original 30, only GE is left. All the rest were replaced (some numerous times) to keep it coninuing on in an Upward Trend... did you know that?

This book is a basic understanding of the concept. You will not be able to trade or make a living after reading. The book does have good sections on fundamentals, technical indicators, the different reports that effect options etc. What you need is a book that breaks it down into a simple format that will get you paid PERIOD.When do I buy? Why do I buy? How to limit risk? How to lock in profits? What options, and what is the price range of the option I need to purchase to Hedge? Most importantly free trades. It is very possible to sell options at certain price levels to make the purchase free or at a credit to your account. I would suggest any David Caplan book. This subject is too complex because of the strategies itself and market indecisiveness to purchase a book with no clear way to bring home the loot. Look elsewhere,.

You would think that a person who writes a book on whatever subject is an expert or at least knowledgeable in the subject and he and his publishers would take due care to make presentation if not easy to read, but at least correct. Right? Wrong!

Consider as trivial a subject as simply defining what particular options are. Regarding buying put options the book states (p. 22, forth bullet): Your reward is potentially unlimited. With long puts your reward is unlimited to the downside...

Wow! Anyone who can read definitions of what options are, can see, that since every man, woman, and child know that stock price does not go to negative infinity the put downside is limited to the strike price minus what you paid for the option.

The book is full of such examples and what's clear that someone did not take care to edit this, as it has correct definition too on the very same subject just a few pages later (or earlier).

Unless you are a professional proofreader and enjoy this kind of stuff, spare yourself the trouble and read all the definitions and generally the basics of option trading written crisply and crystal clear, e.g. on Fidelity Investements web site.

For me the title says it all. This book really does make options easy and the author goes the extra mile by explaining everything in multiple ways. If you're logical, he covers it, if you're visual, he covers it and I'm a bit of both. I also appreciated the way in which every trade example was documented in a table and compared with a different type of trade. Great book.

Serious option traders will want much more in-depth education on the ins and outs of option trading, but I would still recommend Cohen's "Options Made Easy" as the introductory book on options trading to anyone who wants to learn. He has a way of taking very complex topics and breaking down the basics into something the uninitiated can comprehend. More importantly, reading his book gave me confidence that I could learn this subject and successfully trade options myself.

In a world which focuses more on entertaining the reader rather than actually providing them with consistent useful information, Cohen actually believes in teaching. Although a tough subject (to me), he really breaks the information down and builds the reader up to a level of understanding and confidence to begin.

I especially liked how he helps you to start and construct your own plan of attack after realizing how to enter the game but without a biased opinion on which one is better.

(The area on Technical Analysis was great, however I do wish that he would of spent a little more time on breaking some of the charts down).

Even with that I learned quite a bit.

I am a young college student with lots of enthusiasm about entering the options game and will be getting his Bible Of Options Strategies as well.

(Hide Review...)  Options Made TOO Easy
Reviewer Permalink
First off, I want to say that I definitely didn't dislike this book. It's a solid introduction to options trading and it covers an awful lot of material. My issue with the book is that it tried to cover too many things by not fleshing out the details on many topics. As another reviewer pointed out, there are much better options (no pun intended) if you want to learn about fundamental or technical analysis. Frankly, depending on your time horizon, if you don't have an understanding of analysis of either kind you probably shouldn't even think about trading options. But back to the book; I do wish it had more on options trading strategies. Explanations of the vertical spreads are good, but then there's just a long 'strategy table' in the back that glosses over strangles, butterflies, condors, backspreads, etc. without providing any meaningful detail on how they should be used. Topics like volatility, essential to understanding premiums, are also touched on too lightly. I don't normally care for statements like "it would take another book in itself to explain this," but I swear it was repeated 3 or 4 times.

Options are a tool to limit risk, but misused they can be very risky. This book does a good job of describing what options are and some basic ways in which they're used (e.g., if you think a stock will go down, buy a put or sell a call), but it didn't provide me with enough information to successfully prepare myself to trade options.

I would look to other options books before this one unless you just want a very basic primer to read before you delve into the real meat of options trading.

As some of the reviews have hinted at this book spends a great deal of time talking about subjects other than options. I was hoping to get a book that really explained what happens in option trades. This book is one of the better introductory options books I've found. It's lightyears beyond the standard Dummies, Demystified, etc... Very sensible layout and logical progression from chapter to chapter. I like that risk profiles are mentioned early. There's one reason I give it four stars instead of five though. I found that the chapters devoted to fundamental and technical analysis were unnecessary.

But that may not be the case for all readers. To be fair, they represent a relatively small portion of the book and can easily be skipped over.

Pick it up, read it, and maybe you can make some money.

...Hopefully not mine, though.

This is a great book if you plan on investing money in stock option trades. Guy Cohen does a very good job in explaining the different subjects in trading, which covers the fundamentals, analysis, strageties, and a lot more. There are seminiars available for option trading as well, but while those programs will go for big money, I would highly recommend this book to those who don't want to get involved in all that. Between this book, playing with paper money, and the experience gained from it, it offers great potential to profit from the market. Thanks Guy.

While this book does a good job in explaining several common option techniques, the title is somewhat misleading as I don't think a subject as complicated as options trading can ever be "made easy." Reading the book is much like reading a text book or an owner's manual. The author does a good job in boiling down the strategies to their essence and presents them in multiple ways so that people who learn graphically instead of by reading can pick up the strategies easier. The book's shortfall is that it spends a lot of time discussing investment basics such as fundamental analysis and technical analysis. While those are certainly important, I would have preferred that more time been spent on discussing different options strategies because if a person doesn't already know a fair amount about analyzing stocks he has no business trading options in any event. Still, I view this as a handy reference tool and expect that I will refer to it regularly. It is the best book on the subject that I have ever read and unlike a lot of strategy books, does not waste a bunch of your time by trying to suck more money out of you by selling you a proprietary trading product.

This book did a decent job of explaining some of the basics and then some less advanced techniques when it comes to options strategies and hedging. The graphs were helpful. I would have liked to see more real world examples and how these different strategies play out. I gave the book an above average rating because I thought it was a decent technical book, which I like, vs. other boods that I've read where there is more fluff and useless stories of the authors big wins etc. I would recommend this book to someone with a little experience in options who wants to take the next step. There are probably books out there that are better for the more advanced strategies that one can use with options.

I didn't know anything about options, and had come to Amazon to find a book that I could read that would cover the basics and hopefully go over practical trading strategies that a novice could execute. Well, I read the customer reviews on this book, at the time 9 reviews, all 5 out of 5.

I'm very glad I bought the book! The author covers the basics of options in a very clear, concise and easy to follow way. The author also covers a lot of option trading strategies, and discloses how he trades. The examples are excellent, and easy to follow.

The author also goes over the myths associated with options, and also the pitfalls (i.e. buying options with 1 month left to expiry, like a lot of option newsletters seem to recommend but he certainly does not, quite the opposite).

If you want to read up on options, you can't go wrong with this book.

Talks about basic strategies, but doesn't really go into depth as to how one can maximize profits, doesn't really talk about any studies as to practical application for the little guy, such as what time of the day is best to place orders, what time of the month to place orders, and why, etc. Consider looking at the CBOE's own website, which has a plethora of educational reading and real time videos online which teach basics and more advanced concepts.
