This is an overall good book to own filled with practical advice about how to run an on line book store. Very indepth, sometimes too much so, like the bit about how to package a book for shipping, but you also do not get that level of detail in anyone elses book either. This is one of the quartet of books you should get when you decide you want to open up your own on line book store.
There are a lot of things sellers need to know and lots of support for this need for knowledge in the book from customer service, what to pay for books, how to grade and price books, as well as tons of other great information that you will need. Overall 5 of 5 books, enjoyed reading this and learning how to apply the well thought out advice presented in this book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-12 06:20:05 EST)

Michael Mould deserves serious kudos from the world of used booksellers. This book is extremely thorough and gives fantastic nuts and bolts advice. Mike is both rational and encouraging--he avoids the hype of "start-ups" which allows his book to be genuine and open-minded. His "day in the life" anticipates the "basic" questions and his lists of services and weblinks are very helpful. I also highly recommend buying copies that come with the CD "Bookkeeping for Booksellers". That Mike shares all the work he has done is generosity on a karmic scale. Not only is the book helpful, but Mike has created and inspired a large and collaborative community of booksellers through his work. Thanks, Mike, for pointing the way.

Michael Mould covers every detail for those who are interested in online bookselling (as a hobby or a business). I keep this book on my desk and refer to it frequently. Personally, I found the photographs on packaging and shipping to be very interesting (and vital, considering some of his own USPS experiences and insights). He even provides an informative "A Day in the Business" section detailing his own daily bookselling procedures. Very helpful. I have yet to see another bookselling guide to offer such detailed information or step-by-step illustration.

I probably purchased every book on selling books online. The book by Michael E. Mould, if purchased first, would have saved me a lot of money and frustration. He has answered every question I could have asked about selling books online in a concise easy to understand format. I have used many of his suggestions from scheduling my time to pricing and grading my inventory and much more in-between. His impressions of where to sell my books was useful since I was already signed up with Amazon but had not begun to sell anything. He gave me the confidence to know I had made the right decision in choosing Amazon. His knowledge of the proper tools and procedures for saving me from wasting a lot of time has been very helpful.
I am a senior citizen and the less I have to handle the inventory the better. That's one of the best suggestions I took away from the book. Thank you, Mr. Mould Ila J. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-05-21 06:39:38 EST)

A very practical book for those wanting to start an online bookselling
business. Details from A-Z on how to establish yourself as an online bookseller with great resource info and tips and how to avoid pitfalls. I would have liked to have seen more info in the way of what types of books to buy (categories of books) that might sell well. There are a few remarks about which ones to try to avoid, but not enough on which types to look for. Otherwise a very detailed and useful book. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-04-03 06:28:35 EST)

This book is incredibly detailed and honest. It goes into the practical nuts and bolts of a small book-selling business: taxes, bookshelves, packing, inventory, cleaning the books, customer relations and basic business math.
It doesn't provide any quick-and-easy answers to getting new inventory -- the bottom line is that no matter what you do, it requires legwork, but the book really goes into detail about what legwork needs to be done. By the way, the book is preview-able on books.google.com, where you can read maybe 25-50% of it. Still, it's definitely worth the purchase if you're interested in this business. I bought this book at the same time I bought two other books on on-line bookselling. I read this book right through, refer to it often, and recommend it to others. I never could finish the other books; they just never inspired me. In addition to the book, you get a CD which contains a series of spreadsheet workbooks with which you can do all the book-keeping for your new business. They alone are very strong value added and are worth the price of the book many times over.
But that's not all. The author has also created a private on-line bookseller's bulletin board which is accessible to those who buy his book. Over the past year that bulletin board has evolved into an important community of booksellers who share useful information with one another. My business has been transformed by the conversations conducted on that bulletin board. Just today another board member wrote the following testimonial: "by far the best value (of an unsung variety) is when buying the book it comes with access to this fantastic board and the very kind participants who give generously of their knowledge and experience. I believe yours is the only book that offers this......" If you consider your purchase price of this book an investment in your business, you will need a CPA to help you calculate your return. this is the 1st book on the subject i've read, and there are some good points and tips...frankly, i think too much space was devoted to packing issues, and the pricing given for various supplies and services is certainly out of date, making one feel as if they're "late to the game", even though they just received the book...i'd suggest an update...

Sometimes a book is more important than entertainment or mental stimulation. This is one of those books that can actually change your life. It is very readable and the information is dynamite.
Somewhat to my (delighted) surprize everything the author says panned out exactly as he said it would. Michael Mould is a no nonsense engineer who got into on-line bookselling years ago. He shares knowledge and experience in down to earth prose that helps the serious newbie make real money...for real. Selling on Amazon is fun if you get a good grip on what the business is about before you launch. The book and CD provide that, but important details are explained too. The practical tips are abundant and useful. I made multiple times the cost of the book the first week selling on Amazon before I knew what hit me. This is truly a business you can start for little money. With hard work and a service attitude there is outstanding opportunity. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-10-02 02:16:33 EST)

The books previous high reviews were the reason I purchased this book instead of the others offered. And the book lived up to the reviews.
Written in a friendly neighbor sort of style it is chock full of what seems to be most useable information about an exciting opportunity for todays small business owner. I would recommend this book over the others on the strength of the information given alone. And the spreadsheets on CD are an extra value worth the higher cost of this book. Read it and learn. This is not your typicial run of the mill "how to" book filled with just general information that most online-booksellers already know.
Mike gets into the meat of the the business. He has also incorporated with his CD, a business plan which tells you how to grow your business with exactly how many books to buy each month to reach your set annual profits. He gives many tips and insights that you won't find in any other online bookselling book! If you have only one book you can buy, this is it!!! It will save you time and money and help you to start growing your online book business. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-06-26 06:48:01 EST)

Very prompt shipping.
5 Stars seems to fall very short of the rating the book deserves. I have checked out a number of on-line businesses but Mr. Mould goes above and beyond what is expected. Details are the key to this book and on terms a old construction worker can undertstand. Thank you for this book. It is answer we have been looking for. Michael Mould's book transcends all that have come before. With rare candor and calculated precession Michael offers the online bookselling community and beyond a complete and precise examination of online bookselling from A to Z. With no stone left unturned he takes you step by step, page by page with ease and simplicity. For the beginner or the novice; with this book in your hand you hold the trump card to success in online bookselling. Kudos to Michael Mould.

With the advent of Amazon and other on-line book sellers, many of us book-lovers became aware that there was an alternative to taking your excess books to the neighborhood used bookstore--where you would receive a few pennies per book. Putting your books on line and selling them makes so much sense--and eliminates the bookstore middleman, allowing both customers and book sellers to split the difference and come out ahead. But there are problems with this model--how do you do it? Which online outlet should you use? How do you ship books to be certain that the customer gets what he ordered? How do you know how much to charge? Are you making money or would you be better off spending your time doing something else? And do you get your money's worth by paying to become a premium bookseller (at Amazon, for example) or should you simply pay the added fee per book?
Author Micheal E. Mould moves quickly beyond the online bookseller hype (yes, it is possible to make money doing this) and gets to the practical nuts and bolts of making a business. He provides detailed descriptions (including photographs) of ways to package books to ensure that they arrive with the package no matter how the post office mangles them (I have to say that I spent several minutes with sharp scissors opening my own copy of this book--packed by Mould). He offers practical suggestions on how to acquire books--and makes it clear that my own library of genre fiction is a poor candidate for online bookselling. In addition to his detailed text description, Mould includes a CD-ROM complete with a number of Excel spreadsheets designed to (1) allow the prospective bookseller to calculate whether his/her approach is likely to generate income; (2) determine a break-even point (and hence a minimum inventory to really get started) and (3) a fairly complete bookkeeping spreadsheet that will allow the practicing small online bookseller to keep track of his sales, profits, expenses, and tax requirements. ONLINE BOOKSELLING is not perfect. Mould sometimes repeats himself and spends too much time justifying why he'd want to write a book teaching others to compete with him. Still, this is the most down-to-earth and useful book I've read yet on this subject. If you're considering entering the world of online bookselling, Mould's book would definitely be worth the investment. The price is a bit high, but Mould's advice is so solid, the payback period should be short. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-06-26 06:48:01 EST)
