Magic Lantern's guide to the D80 is an excellent beginning point for anyone making the switch from a Nikon film SLR to the digital SLR. All the essential items are clearly covered: menus, image quality, ISO, setting white balance, manual vs. autofocus modes, apperture, and metering. While not an overly detailed guide, it helps take some of the confusion out of the D80's dizzying array of features and quickly puts you on the path towards achieving quality images. For photographers already experienced with digital SLRs this would not be a good choice-- but I would highly recommend this DVD for anyone just starting out with this pro-sumer camera.

This is a great DVD guide for the D80. The narrator takes you logically step by step through the myriad settings on this relatively complex camera. And perhaps most importantly, he is critical of the camera at appropriate points and tells you settings to avoid and defaults to change and shortcuts. The hard copy manual included with the camera never puts the camera in the same context. The scant coverage of white balance in the manual provided by Nikon -- so important to new and old digital photographers -- is far better handled in this DVD. This DVD will take you from zero to well beyond point-and-shoot in a single afternoon of steady work with the DVD. Given how much you just paid for the camera, it is worth the price.
