A most excellent book. I agree with the other reviewer that said this should come with the camera(grammar is much better here:)). Well put together and has an intellectual flow. Paper is a bit weird, but my guess that is just so the photos look better.
All in all, a great buy!!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-08 03:21:44 EST)

The D60 field guide is an absolute must have for anyone who has a D60 and is new to DSLR photography. If you are not new to DSLR, I would still recommend getting yourself a copy anyway as it serves as an excellent reference tool.
I anxiously awaited the release of this guide after I got a D60 in May. While I waited for its release I used various resources on the internet to familiarize myself with the camera and learn important basics for DSLR photography. Although I was fairly successful on my own, this book would have saved me hours of researching and frustration (not to mention an entire set of photos from the zoo that came out terribly grainy). Overall, the book does a wonderful job introducing the user to the features and functions of the D60. Also, it is intuitively organized and presents information in a way that makes sense (unlike the user's manual which I find equally as useful as the spanish version that came with the camera too). For the novice, a first read through will answer a great deal of the seemingly infinite amount of questions that one may have starting out with DSLR and the D60. For the intermediate to experienced user, the book will prove to be a handy reference guide for specific types of photography. I keep the book in my backpack wherever I go to take shots and I find that most of the time there are a few pages specifically dedicated to explaining tips and techniques on how to approach and shoot the exact type of photos that I am trying to take. The full color examples with a brief discussion of how to achieve the same are extremely helpful as a starting point for a specific type of shot. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-17 03:23:14 EST)

"Nikon D60 Digital Field Guide" is an in-depth, detailed description of the functions and controls of the Nikon D60. The book also includes general, need-to-know photography information and tricks of the trade.
Many photography guides out there have great information, but have to generalize for multiple camera models, or if it is camera specific, they go over the controls without going into general photography information. This book contains it all, describing every aspect of your camera and explaining how it pertains to the art of photography. This book has too much information to read once and remember. The information and organization, however, makes it indeed a "Field Guide" for digital photographers. It's easy to go back, find the subject you are searching for and get the exact information you need. A must-have for new and seasoned D60 users, alike. I'm an absolute beginner DSLR user, keep that in mind!
Sure, it covers most aspects of the camera, but it jumps from almost "tedious basics" to long text sections. I mean, it's a book about pictures so why not use some pictures to illustrate concepts, ideas, and settings. In the advanced sections there are some example pictures and then tables detailing the settings. BORING! Uninspired, a typical example of how software books used to be: quick rewrites of the manual. Get the "Magic Lantern's Nikon D40 DVD guide" instead (the D60 is almost identical to the D40. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-12 00:14:32 EST)

If you have a D60, this is a must read! Even your other friends with different cameras would benefit from reading this!
So when I first got this book, I actually didn't expect much, but I wanted to read it anyways. After reading it cover to cover- I was WRONG! It is a WEALTH of information about the D60- Nearly everything! Sure there are pages on the buttons and EVERYTHING is covered, so a lot of it is review. However, that is a good thing in my mind. After the first three chapters, which were mostly review, I was enjoying reading the guide. Although I knew most of it, I also was shown some new tricks, better ways of doing things, and other cool stuff. Starting in chapter four, I really was enjoying the read! I leaned some new concepts and others were reinforced. Both composition and exposure were heavily covered, but very informative and well written. Chapter 6 was my favorite chapter- "working with light". Just as it says, it is all about light. Some of it was flashes, most of it was about lighting in general, and extremely informative and helpful in my photography. Another great- and large- section of the book is real world situations, and how to make great photos of them. From landscapes to macros. In short, this book rather unexpectedly improved my photography, and made me faster and more comfortable using my D60. If you own the D60, buy this book now! It is UNBEATABLE for the price! In fact, since most of it applies, I would suggest it to D40 and D40X users also. Erik from Flickr. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-08-09 10:10:46 EST)

This book is the best guidebook available for the Nikon D60. If you are still wondering if this is the right book for you, stop thinking and order the book. It is very well put together and has sections covering every aspect of using the D60. It includes sections on the layout of the camera, in depth details of all the menus and functions, differences/uses of flashes, ISO, White balance, tips tricks and practice techniques on numerous different styles of photography (portrait, night, abstract, etc.), and detailed information of available accessories for the camera. Not only is it packed full of info, but the book is asthetically pleasing. The author uses a lot of color and great, full-color photos throught the entire book. It also has a very sturdy cover and binding. The quality of the pages is outstanding too! This book is one you will carry with your camera (and reference often) from the very first day until your a seasoned pro. This book has something for all skill levels and it is sturdy enough to last through accidental abuses. If you own a Nikon D60 and are looking for a helpful companion, this is the book you should buy.

I received the guide several weeks ago and have been using it ever since. I really like the fact that it is so well put together and easy to use. I am a novice to dSLR cameras having used a point and shoot forever. This guide has helped me so much I had to reccomend it to beginners like me, but also from my review of it I will be using it a long time to come. The information for using all the settings on the camera and learning the manual setting has been wonderful. I was really filled with anxiety at the propect of using anything but auto. I jumped right in with fireworks and haven't looked back! I couldn't beleive fireworks was listed in the index and I took some great shots. I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can and this is a great tool for anyone. The color examples on different shots really help you see the possibilities. Everything you need to know is in this guide, from lighting, to lenses. I don't even use the manual that came with my camera. The guide fits right into my case and is getting a workout. My camera really feels like a part of me now thanks to this guidebook instead of some foreign object. Everthing is becoming second nature and I couldn't be happier! HK

If you've recently purchased a Nikon D60 this book might be considered a must read. It is much easier and much more informative in introducing you to all the options and techniques for using your D60 effectively. It not only gets you well acquainted with your camera but it does a good job of introducing folks to some of the finer points of photography. I believe it does a decent job of explaining some of the technical terms without boring you to death with too much.
This really should be the book that comes with the camera! The only reason I marked it down 1 star is that I'm not sure it really qualifies as a "field guide." It's a bit big and heavy to carry around and my idea of a true field guide would be a something that has critical info in a bit more compressed format. But... that's nit-picking a bit! I've had this book for several days and have found it to be extremely useful for owners of the Nikon D60. It is much better than the manual that came with the camera and is written in a manner that non-technical people can easily understand. Any jargon is clearly explained and advice is plentiful in the book.
The book is well organised and it was easy to find the information I needed. The book certainly did a much better job than the manual of explaining the various camera menus and functions. I especially appreciated the practical advice, tips, examples and typical camera settings in the practice sections of the book. I also liked the description of Nikon's lens codes in the chapter on lenses, something that had baffled me for some time. In short, readers of this book will learn how to better use their D60 and master its many functions in a short time. It's a handy reference that I expect to go back to now and then, even after I've finished reading it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-07-16 09:41:52 EST)

I've yet to go through the entire book, (there is a lot of good information here), but from what I've read so far, the book is an amazing tool for photographers. The detail in here is fantastic, but it's not bogged down with convoluted technobabble. This book covers everything about the D60, from how to navigate through the on-screen menu, to lighting tips, to pratical examples (with details on setting up the practice shots), right down to working with RAW files. You can really tell that the author has a familiarity with this particular camera, and that he knows a great deal about photography in general. I highly recommend this book to anyone new to the world of Nikon DSLR's. There is more than enough here to keep you refering back to the book time and again.
