|
Legions of readers entranced by Twilight are hungry for more and they won't be disappointed. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.

SPOILERS!!!!
Bella (a human) is in love with Edward (a vampire). At the beginning of the book Edward and his family move out of town. The reason? Bella wants to become a vampire to be with Edward forever--but he won't "change" her. Bella goes into a deep depression until she meets Jacob Black--but he's a werewolf! I know it sounds silly but the author makes it work. I won't reveal anymore. The book reads fast and is interesting--but it's far too long for the material. The werewolves and their powers just aren't as interesting as the vampires. Also it gets REAL over the top and silly towards the end when Bella hops a plane to Italy to save Edward! That's about when the book lost me. Throwing in this society of vampires and how they control a whole city just was going too far for me. Also there's a huge amount of new characters here to keep track of. This isn't a terrible book but it's not as good as the first. However I do have every intention of reading the last two in the series. If you liked the first you'll like this one. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-19 02:25:29 EST)

New Moon was hard for me to read. This book is about Edward leaving Bella for her own good. I cried. I remember losing my first love and I could relate on so many levels. I was a bit obsessed like Bella was. It was a painful book to read (because of all the sadness, but a necessary book for the saga.

It looks as if anyone can sell Kindle books online. I was hesitant buy a 99-cent version, since the books usually run about six dollars. Well, I should have listened to that voice in the back of my head. The first couple of pages alone were so chock full of typos (due to scanning errors, no doubt) that I gave up on reading and decided to write this review. I'm left wondering... Is this even a legal version, or is it a pirated copy?

After Edward leaves, Meyer portrays Bella's depression with pages blank but for the names of the months that pass. I laughed at this point. This sums up my feelings for this book and the Twilight series in general.

Product arrived quickly, and was an easy transaction. This book, however, I was a little disappointed with... I absolutely fell in love with Edward in the first book, and got a little angry at the fact that he was m.i.a. for most of this entire book. I could really care less about Jacob, but I guess this book was good in the sense of introducing Jacobs character and getting to learn a little bit about him without the distraction of Edward. Towards the end of the book Edward comes back into the story and is immediately possessive of Bella again, which I thought was a little wierd, too, but I guess thats Edward. Looking forward to the next two books....

This is another excellent book by Stephenie Meyer! The large print is excellent for someone who has trouble reading the smaller print. It's a good price for a hardcover and the shipping was fairly quick.

This is the Twilight book that differs the most from the others. Edward is only in the beginning and end. Jacob takes over, and your heart is torn with Bella's as you try to chose over the guys. Her depression is scary, and her emotions are well portrayed. Her zombie like state depresses you, making it more exciting when Jacob becomes a prominent figure in her everyday life. Just when things are getting back to normal, Bellas world is flipped upside down when her significant other comes back into her life. The end introduces more vampires, which is a must for the 3rd and 4th books.

This book has a lot of set up for the two that come after it in the series, making it an important one to read but not always the most fresh or entertaining. The character of Jacob Black becomes more important and we see a new dimension to Bella's relationship with Edward. Lots of new twists are added to the mix. Overall, I liked this book the least of the four, but it is still well written.

I am not a regular reader, but I LOVE the Twilight series. "New Moon" was especially good. I read the whole 550+ page book in about 5 days, that's how good it was! Right after I was done I couldn't wait to start reading the third installment of the series "Eclipse". These books are really good!!!!

There could be something seriously wrong with me because I loved the melancholy embodied in this book. Meyers command of the sadness of heartbreak (regardless that it's through teenagers)is simply gut wrenching. But have something lighthearted around as well. The darkness and despair of Bella can suck you into an abyss not easily shaken off if you remember losing your first love.

Very Poor, Loose Attempt at a Shakespearian Romeo/Juliet Farce!
[**NOTE** This is a review of the BOOK and not the soon-to-be-released film of the same name. May contain spoilers, but as you are about to see, that won't really matter too much]... It's Bella's 18th birthday and of course she doesn't want anyone else to know about it or celebrate it or stare at her or make a fuss. So far, typical Stephanie Meyer depressing teenage, angst-ridden, depressing female character. She cuts herself while at a birthday party the vampires Cullen are throwing for her and one of their number cannot resist and attempts to jump her. Edward bounces him off her and gets her to a hospital after some patch-up (she fell into a glass table, the klutz). He decides to leave her. She immediately goes into a psychotic, catatonia. She rolls up in a ball in the middle of a forest glen with the rain falling and stays there for hours and hours. Her father and others are searching for her. Then Sam (who we later find out is a member of the local Native Americans and a werewolf) finds her. We then cut to her house. Rarely goes out, cuts off her friends, months go by. The author represents this with blank chapter pages -- I turned about five or six pages of blank paper. Great way to up the page count there, Meyers! As with Paris after Romeo left Juliet, we have Jacob looking after Bella who has a hard time "patching the hole" in her chest. We continue with this melodrama for some time. We find Bella is hearing voices in her head. Or rather one voice, her love, Edward. How sweet. How psychotic. Where's my Prozac? Straight-jacket anyone? Example: She finds that when she's reckless, she gets to hear Edward's warning voice in her head. So she purposely gets into dangerous situations to turn it on again! Just to hear that voice! I was hoping this was really Edward who magically planted something in her head or something. Nope. She was nuts. Evident by the fact that these disappear when Edward enters the scene and Meyers never explains it, a.k.a. plot hole! Another thing I hated about the book was that, unlike Twilight, we hardly went to her school at all. There was a scene where, in order to "get Charlie off my back" she purposely tried to go out with a friend of hers, whom she ignored for months while in her selfish catatonic state. Bella of course does not understand why her friend is shocked that she's speaking to her. The character's unhinged reality is clear to me: something's shaking: Oh wait, that's me! What's that noise? Oh wait, I'm crying, wow , that's what that is! Honestly dear reader, I am not making this up. What she puts her father, Charlie, through is just unbelievably cruel for a daughter to pull on her own father. The guy's best friend Harry dies and while he goes to the funeral, she discovers that Edward is trying to commit suicide by getting himself killed by an old Italian vampire cult. In Italy, of course. Gosh, that's sure far away and all so we're gonna write a lame note to a heartbroken father and leave for three days to try to prevent a suicide. Even the characters in the book are shocked at Bella. Words like "crazy", "catatonia" and others less flattering are bantered about. Other points in the book: The ancient vampire cult, living in a city where some time in history they banished vampires from their borders was somewhat interesting. Three thousand year old vampires that find that their abilities are blocked by Bella, or rather she's not affected by their mind-reading and pain-throwing abilities. Even with this bit of interest, Meyers does NOT expand on this, no history, no interesting tidbits on how they got this way, how they wield power, NOTHING. Another interesting point: Werewolves. Did you know that werewolves are genetic and that when they reach puberty they shake and grow and POW they run around like very large wolves. Full moon? What? Can't hear you, too much growling around here. Or is that loud thumping Lon Chaney, Jr. spinning in his grave? I'm hoping for a kinder ending. Nope. We had Jacob throughout the book attempting to become friends and even perhaps lovers, filling in where Edward left off. We meet a lovely family that jokingly calls her the wolf girl. They're kind, joking around, much more attractive than the stone-cold vampires, or "filthy bloodsuckers" as Jacob affectionately calls them. Does Bella get that vampires and werewolves are mortal enemies? Not really. Does Bella get that werewolves can tear a vampire to pieces as was merely hinted at by Meyers? (A pack runs after Laurent, a vampire who was about to snack on Bella but unfortunately failed to put her out of her (and my) Misery!) No, she doesn't really get it at all.... Oh, and the Cullens vote to whether or not to have Bella become a vampire! That took more pages than necessary for Bella to get a yes vote and can't understand why Edward won't let her. It means busting up her friendship with Jacob and alienating her father, but that's what Love is all about, right? All fair and all that? Bite me! Much better authors with interesting, courageous female characters: Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy with The Golden Compass, et al., may be controversial and have the religious community up in arms, but it was interesting -- battling mythical creatures, entering alternate dimensions, the meaning of Dust and the incredible adventures of one Lyra ("Silvertongue) and her Demon. Fun stuff. All the Harry Potter books with J.K. Rowling's various female characters from the tough, no nonsense Professor McGonigal, the spacey Luna Lovegood and the courageous and sometimes frustrating Hermione. Characters we can identify with, laugh and cry with, care about. Meyer's books (at least the first two that I've read) are vapid treatises that would embarrass anyone even faintly familiar with the Romeo or Juliet story. I hope I've dissuaded you, dear reader, from wasting your time plowing through a 500 plus page novel to find out that Bella is anything but a role model, and is the most psychotic person I have ever met in literature outside maybe the murderess in King's Misery. Or maybe not! Amazon.com has granted me three "unhelpfuls" for Twilight. Hopefully I'll beat that with this review! (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-18 17:44:23 EST)

This book was similar to Twilight for me. I'm not a young adult, but I do read YA literature because I enjoy it, and so I can recommend books to my children (we're all voracious readers). Other reviewers have given enough details of the plot, so I won't go into that in this review. I just wanted to share that, as with Twilight, this isn't the most well-written book I've ever read, and it's even more angsty than Twilight, but I still cared enough about the story and the characters to finish it quickly and download the third in the series (as did my teens). I don't know what it is about this series - it's just compelling. :)

Just finished the second book and gosh... I have a lot to say.
Shall I do dot points? Yes, I'll do dot points, I think. **May contain spoilers** *Why does Edward think it's a good idea to leave. He so quickly forgot that Victoria had not been accounted for. So leaving Bella just makes her more vulnerable to attack. *Bella is a mess in this book! We've all had our hearts broken, but she truly does a number on herself. I got SO tired of hearing about the hole in her chest and how it ached. The author just went on and on about it. And again, like with the first book - it's written in the first person, so we're stuck inside Bella's mind - prone to overreaction. *Jacob is a better pick than Edward. As soon as we start to hear more about Jacob, it's a relief. He has a PERSONALITY! A sense of humor even, and his connection with Bella is more than the smell of her blood, or even how she looks. They seem to be a good match for eachother. I kind of cringed when I realised what a nice bloke Jacob was, as we all know no matter what happens in the next two books (which I'm currently working), she's STILL going to end up with Edward. *I continue to be of the opinion that Ms Meyer is not real good at writing action. Most of the times when there was action, it was supremely difficult to know what was going on. In particular, when Bella was running across the square to stop Edward from stepping out into the daylight, revealing his sparkles...(don't go there girlfriend)... anyway - has she made it to him yet? If he thought she was dead, why isn't he reacting with relief, like any other star-crossed lover would! I also found myself confused when Ms Meyer was describing close interactions between characters. At one point Bella is sitting on Edward's lap, and it says he's resting his head on top of her hair? Her head would be ABOVE his head, unless the man has a VERY long neck! :) *I continue to like Edward less and less. And Bella is dead to me (no pun intended). She'd whined her way through so much of the book, and showed no real strength of character that I didn't care much what happened to her in the end. *I was disturbed by the portrayal of many of the females in this book. We have Bella - you know my feelings about her. Renee (her Mum) - a flighty, somewhat irresponsible woman who Bella feels the need to "mother." Emily - Whose value, it seems, lies chiefly in cooking for werewolves and being engaged to one of them - even though she was horribly maimed by him. Rosalie - Merely decorative vampire Alice - the ONLY female character in the book that is even REMOTELY interesting or strong. And even then, she's always chasing/pining/worrying over Jasper. So girls - read this book if you want to be inspired to be a whiney, shallow, piney woman with no backbone. A little harsh? Perhaps. But I was quite disappointed in this book. Some of it was written very well. Other parts dragged. By the way, exactly what ARE ones eyes doing when they tighten? "His eyes tightened"... Does that actually mean anything? I found this book to be boring. It was a quick read but mainly because I found myself skipping words and sometimes paragraphs because I found the narration very dull. That's really neither here nor there.
My real problem, which I have not seen addressed anywhere, is Mrs. Meyer's use of a real Native American Tribe in her story. This is just fine in theory, but not once in this book is the real culture and history of the Quileute people discussed. It is simply a fantasy Mrs. Meyer invented and used their name. She said herself that she just googled "rainy towns" to select her setting. I can only assume she found the Quileute reservation just as easily. It seems she then proceeded to make up a bunch of history and culture for the Quileute people to suit her needs. I fully realize all Ms. Meyer's characters are fictional and this is a fantasy book. The Quileute people however are not fantasy. From what I have learned in my own research is the Quileute now number in the hundreds (the official 2000 census reads 371) and occupy a tiny government allotted territory of an area that has ecologically suffered due to logging. Like many other Native American Tribes, they have a long history of tradition, spirituality and suffering and struggle to keep their culture alive. Many live below the poverty level. All I gained from Miss Meyer is they like to eat fish, have family arguments. The whole thing just came across as disrespectful. I also realize this is 'Bella's story' but she spent a great deal of time with Quileute tribe members and never seemed at all interested in their culture. I feel she missed a great opportunity. I would like to note very quickly that Mrs. Meyers is a practicing Mormon and, historically speaking, Mormons have held what I will call `controversial views' on the native peoples of America. I do not mean to offend anyone. I just felt the need to bring this up. Thank you. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-18 17:44:23 EST)

I never thought I'd be reading this series, but I gave in and am glad I did. Meyer is essentially transforming what have long been negative archetypes into positive ones, which I see as both creative and healing for society. The symbolism is poignant, the story is incredibly fun, and at times profound. I'm not even through this second book yet but I know it will be good all the way through. I'll definitely follow up with the third and fourth.

The book is so popular that the library waiting list was really long; so that is why I bought it. Amazon's book prices are quite reasonable and they ship really...really fast.
New Moon wasn't quite as exciting as "Twilight" but still was a very good read. It's rated as a novels for teenagers; but HELLO! I'm in my late 50s and love WELL written stories about vampires and werewolves and Stephenie's books almost make you believe that they really exist. Anyway I am looking forward to the next book in the series which the library waiting list is also still very long for and I will order from Amazon. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-18 17:44:23 EST)

I'll start off by saying I'm over 40 and happened upon this series quite by accident. After much consideration I decided to read the series to see if it measured up to all the fanfare. Much to my surprise I feel in love with the characters and the storyline! You'll fall in love with all the characters but New Moon focuses much on Bella and Jacob. Enjoy!

I read the first book, Twilight, after seeing the movie. and had watched the trailer of New Moon, so could not wait to move on to this, the continuation of the saga. I had a lot of expectations. I was, like Bella, irrevocably and utterly, in love with Edward and I burned to see where the story would go.
In many ways, for me, New Moon, was better than Twilight, though Twilight and Breaking Dawn will always be my favorites out of all four books. In New Moon, the author has a most wonderfully descriptive way in which she portrays the utter despair, the incredible emotional and physical trauma and pain Bella experiences, and the lovely way in which Stephenie Meyer writes about that emotion, kept me glued to the book. I felt the same despair as Bella did, not knowing what the author intended for Edward and not wanting to jump the gun by reading snatched ahead from the following two books, I truly was riveted. Thank you, Stephenie, for a wonderful sags, and for the beautiful love story that culminates from this. A best friend and a lover, love story. (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-18 17:44:23 EST)

New Moon...2nd book in the Twilight Saga. New Moon was my least favorite of all four books and that isn't saying alot seeing how much I love this saga. I found myself waiting and waiting for the return of Edward. I can totally understand and feel for Jacob but I am a total Team Edward fan. It was nice to see the way Bella acted and felt without the presence of Edward and the other Cullen's but I loved it when Alice came back. There was great events in this book and I loved getting to know all of the werewolves. Great Read...

New Moon is a very well-written book by Stephenie Meyer. I love the whole saga, but this is one of my favorites...so heartbreaking & yet so thrilling at the same time. I am reading it again for about the fourth time! When I first read New Moon, I could not put it down...it's too interesting & exciting!

I've read the series twice and thinking about reading them again. I just can't see to get enough; however I believe this one is my favorite because it has the most heart wrenching emotion in it. These are great stories.

This was my least favorite book in the series. I find Bella's character just very annoying. I find her annoying in all of the books. Although I did think that Kristen Stewart did an excellent job in the movie portraying Bella. Were lucky the screenwriter made her a little bit more of an average teenager, rather than the annoying, completely independant character that "takes care of her father, because he just can't do anything on his own" I was waiting for them to write that Bella follows him into the bathroom to wipe him afterwards.
Overall I did enjoy the Twilight series, but I'll tell you one thing, It's NOOO Harry Potter!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2009-07-03 00:15:21 EST)

I loved this book simply because of Jacob. He is probably the most realistic character of the series.

My daughter had been putting off reading and art projects I require her to do every summer. We enjoyed reading the first book in 2006. I decided to buy The Twilight Saga books 2, 3, and 4 since another movie was being made. The are great.

I am not a big fan of reading but when I read this book I was hooked by the time I read the second page. I finished all four books in less then a week. I read morning noon and night. They just seem to suck you in and make you want to keep reading. I have decided to purchase them in audio now. I would suggest these books to any fan of twilight. I was AMAZED that the books were so much better then the movie.

I bought this series for my 10 1/2 year old (she's read the first & second book). The other 2 she is receiving for her upcoming August birthday. She absolutely loves this series & that's all she talks about that she wants for her birthday!

If you liked the Twilight series, you might like a book in the BETA stages called After Eventide. Read the first few chapters and give your honest opinion as the author works on it, cuz After Eventide has it's own website. [...]

This book series is one of the best page turners i have ever read. I had not read any part of this before the movie twilight came out. and hearing that the movie was (dumb) i never thought it would have been so good. I bought the first book and after reading it i went to the local libary to get NEW MOON but found that with even 2-3 books there was still a 16 person waiting list. i went to a differant libary and got lucky and found the last 3 (new moon, eclipse, breaking dawn. i read all 3 in less than 2 weeks then read the entire series one more time. Even knowing were i could keep checking them out i went to amazon and found i could buy them super cheap and ordered the last 3 books. I then put my self on the libarys waiting list for the audio books. I got breaking dawn first (probably my most favored book of the series) and have listened to it at least 5 times in the last 2 weeks.

This was a good book. Despite the torture of him not being present most of the book it didn't drag like I thought it would.
