I can't deny that the recipes are, for the most part, terrific. But, that said, I must comment on the loose-leaf binder format. Yes, it's convenient to lay it flat while in use, but the pages will not hold up very well unless you stick reinforcements on each and every page, both front and back. Just the thought of doing that is overwhelming...check out how many pages are in this cookbook, now multiply that number by six. WHEW! That's a truckload of reinforcements, ya' think? I know they put it out in a spiral-bound version, but I'm having trouble finding that. When I do, this edition will be turned over to my DD.

For more than 44 years, my standby cookbook has been the Red Checkered Better Homes cookbook that I received as a new bride in 1963. I had put a cover on the outside to keep the binding from tearing apart any further. The edges of the pages were dirty and frayed, and I had put reinforments on some of the holes of the pages. Nevertheless, this was my faithful kitchen companion.

Today, I received this new Pink Plaid revised edition. It does not disappoint me. While it's true that some recipes have been altered, or even omitted altogether, the new, updated information it contains more than makes up for the changes some people might be unwilling to accept. For instance, the nutritional values at the end of each recipe is invaluable. This is important whether one is dieting for weight loss, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart health, or just interested in eating healthy. My old book doesnt contain this information.

I have officially retired the old book, but if, along the way, I find that I need some some old favorite, I'll simply take that page out of the old binder and insert it into the appropriate place in the new one.

Get this book. You won't be sorry.

As a breast cancer survivor, I received this book as a Christmas gift. The recipes from survivors in the front of the book are not included in the index in the back nor are they listed individually in the front. It is as if they were just stuck in to fill space. I bought ingredients for one of the breast cancer recipes and then I had a hard time finding where it was. The rest of the recipes in the book are grouped together in a very confusing manner.

I use this cookbook almost every meal I make for my family. Easy to follow recipes that call for commonly used ingredients. Very well organized...and I love how it's put together in the three-ring-binder.

I purchased this book new. While it has wonderful information on cooking information (measurements, appliances, etc.), I tried 3 recipies for a New Year's Eve dinner. The Lemony Antipasta was good. However, the Chicken Strata and the Chicken and Sausage Paella went down in flames. Preparation was easy; costs of ingredients reasonable. Flavor-wise, both dishes were so bland, they were virtually tasteless. And the 5 ounce package of saffron-flavored rice is not sufficient for the paella; 3 packages would have been adequate. I won't throw the book away because of the valuable cooking information. But I won't try anymore of the book's recipes. And I'm not a cooking beginner; I'm quite 'seasoned'. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. And I'm writing a letter to Better Homes and Gardens.

I gave this edition of the Betty Crocker Cookbook to my sister n' law whose own sister n law is a Breast Cancer survivor. this is what prompted my interest in the book, but I would reccommend it to anyone with a special woman on their list who enjoys cooking. My sister n' law said there are new reciepes and the book is so nice to look at. It came packaged nice and tight so although it was less expensive there were no signs that it was any different than a standard purchase price book.

this really is one cook book you have to add to your collection..its an original....I always seem to go back to it. I received it for a great price too but didn't realize just how damaged it would be, opening it up with the metal clamps inside all messed up is a constant pain..so spend the extra cash and get a new new one w/o the damage!

The BHG Pink Plaid cookbook is a great all around cookbook and has the special bonus healthy section - but don't buy it thinking it is different that the 75th Anniversary edition. Except for one different section, the books are the same.

Great cookbook, nice pictures, easy to follow recipes. My favorite cookbook.

I've never owned a BH&G cookbook but always wanted one and when this came out with breast cancer awareness, I had to get one. I also bought one for my daughter-in-law's birthday and she thought it was great! Recipes are still the basic recipes a person needs to be a good cook, but it's also very helpful adapting recipes, such as making bread the old fashioned way and using a bread machine.

This is a very nice and informative cookbook and would make a very nice wedding shower gift. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone.

This book's only downfall (and it may not bother some) is the lack of food photos. The lay-out is great, the cause it supports (breast cancer irradication) is great, the recipes are great; I just prefer photos of food to salivate over. This still should not be a detterant to purchase of this classic.

I have an earlier version of the red and white cookbook that I have depended on for the last 10 years. I decided to get myself a pink one after I had purchased some for gifts. The new version is fabulous, too! It has been updated with new recipes and all the ones I have tried so far are fantastic and easy to understand. It is definitely worth every cent!

Happily, I received the cookbook earlier than I expected.I bought this in honor of my aunt, Julina Agus Tupas, who died of breast cancer last year, and one who was a great cook herself. She would be impressed and happy with this excellent resource for healthy eating and living. The cook book was in great condition and the contents are useful for healthy cooking and helpful to a beginning cook like me. The illustrations are superb and colorful. The lay-out of the pages are tastefully done. I especially liked the introductory material on kitchen utensils and equipment and the section on cooking that helps prevent cancer. Congratulations to the publisher and Amazon.com! I would highly recommend this cook book for all who love healthy cooking and eating.

"The Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook," first published in 1930, has been one of America's most popular culinary guides for seventy-five years, with more than 37 million copies sold. It was my first cookbook, given to me by my mother-in-law right after I was married, a long time ago. Usually identifiable by the popular red plaid cover, this brand new 12th edition is different - its plaid is PINK! The pink color stands for Breast Cancer Awareness. Please note - the title is different also, "New Cook Book, Limited Edition 'Pink Plaid:' For Breast Cancer Awareness." The high quality of the 1200 recipes, new ones and old favorites too, plus glossary, ingredient substitutions, cooking charts, diagrams, preparation and storage information, is the same, however, as the caliber of your trusted old red plaid version. There are 700 beautiful photographs illustrating finished dishes and fresh products.

An important new feature is the "Eating for Life" section, containing important cancer awareness information, dietary and lifestyle suggestions and over 60 recipes geared to help readers reduce the risk of disease. Better Homes and Gardens has committed to donating a portion of the profits from the book to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

As with my first Better Homes and Garden Cookbook, I received this beautiful edition as a birthday gift. I plan to give copies, this year, to many friends for their birthdays, or Hanukkah/Christmas, and/or just for friendship's sake. As I read recently, there is a "triple gift impact: a sought-after limited edition cookbook, meaningful cancer-fighting information, and a significant contribution to a highly-visible, respected foundation." How can you go wrong?
