I was familiar with Dr. Blaylock, as I subscribe to his newsletter. Actually, much of the same information appears in his newsletter. As a breast cancer survivor, I found the information in this book to be as valuable a resource as any I have seen. As a physician who does not accept contributions from drug manufacturer's, he presents an unbiased outlook regarding fluoridation of water, chemical additives to our food, among other foci. He is a strong proponent of supplementation with vitamins, minerals and other natural, non toxic materials. I recommend this book to anyone hoping to use less toxic means to avoid cancer recurrence, or anyone hoping to avoid a future cancer diagnosis.

Great book. Really satisfied and can recommend it.
Just two things (in response to the person that gave 2 stars): 1. We agree, we all should eat a well-balanced diet. The thing is...95% of people have no clue what a well-balanced diet means. Too much distortion and propaganda out there. They need a guide, and Dr. Blaylock does a great job on this book (same with "Health and Nutrition Secrets"). 2. I recommend you check this article from the BMJ Clinical Evidence: http://clinicalevidence.bmj.com/ceweb/about/knowledge.jsp It's about what we really know about conventional treatments. Yes, we scientist work on mice, and yes, maybe it is not perfect, and we cannot extrapolate all the time the results....but it really helps and besides, there are thousands of epidemiologic studies that support the importance of a good diet and certain supplements. Conclusive evidence....yes, we can reach it...sometimes. We humans, we just know that we don't know anything. What is true today, can be totally wrong tomorrow. But we are trying our best. And when we see that something really works, we go for it. Peace and the best for you all. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-10-30 00:18:28 EST)

This book is dealing with whys and what- or how-to-dos.
I'm not a cancer patient, but my father died of lung cancer recently and suddenly . So I got extremely interested with everyday health issues, especially about diet and supplements. This book will be helpful, if your loved ones suffer cancers or severe diseases or even minor ones, and if you wanna make sure your way of living is good for you and your family, because It tries to explain what we have to consider. I'm sure there would be way much better than this book, but that doesn't make this a bad book. Trying to explain is the one why I love this book. Wish your best health and also mine and my family's! My 43 year old husband was recently diagnosed with terminal lung cancer as a result of his radiation treatment 10 years ago for his Hogkins lymphoma. He underwent 4 months of chemo and also was fortunate to consult with a oncology nutritionist who recommended various supplements, some used in Europe for cancer therapy and not classified there as "supplements". My husband has the rarest type of lung cancer and it is typically described as the least responsive to chemo. The supplements recommended by the nutritionist target tumor supression, and angiogenesis (the ability of a tumor to create it's own blood vessels and spread). I bought this book because I was wowed and awed by another book of his, "Nutrional secrets that will save your life", or something like that. That the author is a neurosurgeon got my attention as someone I could likely trust to adequately research what supplements are effective for cancer. The book is easy to read and explains the action of the cancer fighting supplements, and is appropriate for readers without a medical background. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in learning how to not only safely fight cancer (and without all the side effects of Western medicine) but also how to prevent cancer and increase their overall immune system.

I wish I had read this book before I went through radiation and chemo. Even so, it has been a tremendous help to me in controlling my metastatic disease. It really gave me hope and a feeling of empowerment. It changed my life and very well may prove to have been a major turning point for the better in my health.
I have a fairly good science background so this book was a piece of cake for me to comprehend. However, many folks might find a few of the medical words a bit technical. If so, just move on. The big words are not essential to understanding the important points. You will get some very valuable information from this book. Thank you Dr. Blaylock. L. Cole, working on getting my MS in nutrition at age 52. (Review Data Last Updated: 2008-01-16 00:14:51 EST)

This book is a must for those who have cancer and preparing for chemo and radiation. The key is that supplements actually enhances the effectiveness of the twin killers while enhancing the immunre and strength of the body.

I so far have taken one piece of advice from this book and it has improved my quality of life so much that I can't wait to try more.
I am undergoing some really rough chemo treatments. Round 1 chemo left me achy and pretty much in bed for most of a week. My doctor told me there was nothing they could do for the fatigue. I looked at Dr. Blaylock's book and he recommended a supplement called Propax with NT Factor. I started taking it (with my doctor's permission) a few days before round 2 Chemo and the improvement is remarkable. Dr. Blaylock also gives a lot of advice for any number of chemo side effects as well as ways of fighting cancer with nutrition. My advice is to buy this book - it is well worth it's price. I purchased this for a friend of mine who needed some guidance. Together we found this book to be not only inspiring but an excellent source for understanding where life had taken her and how to live.

I got this book to find ways to support my body during chemotherapy. I came away feeling like I was going to die unless I ate blended salads and goat's milk every day and chased down a bunch a of random supplements. And I'm a very "natural food"-type of person who usually doesn't think much of going the extra mile to seek out complementary or alternative care. I'm not saying there aren't some good tips in the book, but it is really hard to weed through all the advice to find what you need. The author does quote many studies, but many of them only used animals as subjects, not people, so he's not always presenting conclusive evidence. The best thing you can do is rest, eat a well-balanced diet and find ways to support your spirit during this tough time. Stay away from anything that makes you feel fear.

this book is astonishing in it's clarity and logical (and fairly current c 2003) presentation of many, many practical and simple things to do nutritionally and supplementally to support the cancer patient to help their body fight the cancer. All the author's claims seem to have solid references provided. I have done health research for a few years and this book stands out as probably the best (true and useable) I've ever seen. I'm particularly keen on this subject as my dear mother recently was diagnosed with breast cancer. I'd recommend this book to anyone. It is true,
"eat your broccoli", but also many practical recommendations are made on supplements to take some of them new to me, and info is provided where to get them also. This book is a one-of-a-kind, must read for anyone concerned with overcoming (or avoiding) cancer. Buy the book for your loved one or yourself, as soon as possible. The word I have for this book is astonishing. I marked mine up a lot to underline key things. There's so much there. Thanks for oppty to post my review. Dr. Blaylock has gathered all the information you need to understand the importance of combining natural substances with your cancer treatment. He describes all chemotherapy drugs in great detail.
I was lucky enough to discover this book just as I was leaving home to travel to Fort Worth, Texas. I was going there to help a young man convince his ex-wife that nine different chemo drugs were not going to cure their 7-year old son of his leukemia without supplementation with natural substances. While my wife drove, I read Dr. Blaylock's book. It was as if he were speaking directly to me and the ex-wife. He explained, for example, that none of the drugs being used on Jeffrey had ever been tested together for harmful synergies. None of them had ever been tested on children. When I gave Dr. Blaylock's book to the ex-wife at the courthouse in Fort Worth, I said a prayer that she would read it. She did. She withdrew her case against her ex-husband and they worked out a natural regimen for Jeffrey. It worked. Within a few weeks, Jeffrey was back to normal after being near death. I atrribute his survival to the information in this book. Bill Henderson Author, "Cure Your Cancer" http://www.GetAndStayWell.com (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-06 19:55:08 EST)

I bought this book because a friend of ours has prostate cancer and I wanted to be more informed. There are a lot of titles on the "shelf" in this area - nutrition and cancer, vitamins, supplements, megadoses, minerals, what to eat and what not to eat. Some of them have extraordinary claims for cures. There are a lot of philosophies on diet, which doesn't help a cancer patient when they need sound information rather than opinions and beliefs about food. Perhaps there would be less of this confusion if conventional medical treatment started to use nutrition as a part of mainstream cancer treatment.
I must say that I am really pleased with this book. As I get into it, the content gets better and better - a sign of a well informed and thorough piece of work. Dr Blaylock is very realistic about his purpose and doesn't make extraordinary claims. Instead he systematically reveals & explains the current research about vitamins and supplements, always in the context of cancer. He has a prevailing view that "fresh is best" and qualifies this. It seems to me he also has a hopeful tone, which is sometimes missing from practitioners. I have always been interested in the findings and ideas of Dr Linus Pauling (eg see ISBN 094015921 and ISBN 0380702894) and also Dr Abram Hoffer (eg see ISBN 1550820788). Pauling has been decried by some (though the results of these two doctors' work speak for themselves). For me, this book represents in part a confirmation of their ideas, although the book is less prescriptive than the above and has a broader perspective on diet. One of the central themes in this book is the immune system, and how to strengthen it. Blaylock is careful to indicate where certain foods or supplements actually encourage rather than inhibit cancer growth. He is also good at providing ammunition for the patient to be able to face some of the resistance that arises from physicians who are dubious about the role and value of nutrition in treatment. I gave this book four stars not five, for a couple of reasons. If there had been a summary or tables or suggested outline programme to help the patient construct their own nutrition regime, this would have hit the bell! As it stands, I will dig through the chapters and index to glean a summary of points to put into an action plan. I was also hoping to find a website with some level of currency and discussion about the book - patients asking questions, an updated resource list, general advice, a blog perhaps, or supplemental material. In a word, 'support'. (See http://www.russellblaylockmd.com). Overall, a very good book: readable, thorough, very comprehensive, practical and a good reference - recommended.
