| Love, Medicine and Miracles : Lessons Learned about Self-Healing from a Surgeon's Experience with Exceptional Patients | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Unconditional love is the most powerful stimulant of the immune system. The truth is: love heals. Miracles happen to exceptional patients every day--patients who have the courage to love, those who have the courage to work with their doctors to participate in and influence their own recovery.
"Run, don't walk, to the nearest bookstore and get this amazing book that explains how you can 'think' yourself sick or well...Every family should have a copy. It can be a lifesaver." |

There is little I can say that hasn't been said. This is a wonderful book. I've given it to many friends and friends of friends who were facing serious illness. All of them have gone out of their way to thank me and commented on how helpful they found the book. The author neither says nor implies that illness is someone's *fault.* He merely talks about the psychological part of fighting illness. There is no blame in illness or in its outcome.

As a medical student, this book couldn't have arrived at a better time! While I agree with some of the more negative reviews that this might encourage someone with chronic illness to feel like they/their attitudes "caused the disease" on their own, this book can also be mind-opening. If we all looked as disease as merely an unmet need manifesting itself, we would treat ourselves much differently. Our illnesses might not always require a chemical drug to mask the needs that are weakening us in the first place. I am encouraging my classmates to read this and see for themselves how deciding "I don't need this _______________ in my life" can change their well-being as it did mine!

I bought this book and a few tapes by Bernie Siegel when I had cancer about 18 years ago. I found the book to be right on the money. I have since given this book to many of my friends and associates over the years who were diagnosed with cancer.

You Must Read This If You Have Cancer or Know Anyone Who Does... I titled this review with those words becuase I believe that statement to be as simple a truth I can make it. The book offers a powerful insight into the cause and treatment of cancer from one of the worlds leading authorities, as well as accounting his own journey to that understanding. The wisdom from the author is profound as it discuses both the medical understanding and approach to cancer as well as the humanistic and natural approach of mind-body medicine. It offers more than hope, it offers a true solution to those who have been diagnosed with cancer. Read it - it's as simple as that!

12+ years ago when my surgeon told me I had breast cancer (my second bout with cancer), she gave me this book. Not only did it help me develop, sustain and exude a positive attitude during my entire treatment phase, but it made me a touchstone for anyone else who was diagnosed with cancer and contacted me. Since that time, whenever someone that is near and dear to me, someone that I truly love and want to do something positive for when they are diagnosed with cancer, I give them a copy of this book. Not one of them has died to date. My most recent gift of the book has been to my husband and he is visibly changing his attitude as he reads it.

When I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, I read a wide variety of "inspirational" cancer survivor books. The Bloch's Foundation's "Fighting Cancer" (free just contact them) and Norman Cousin's "Anatomy of an Illness" really resonated for me, made sense and reinforced my focus. Bernie Siegel's books on the other hand made me feel that the disease was my fault for having the "wrong" personality and that if I allowed any negative thoughts into my mind, I was putting my recovery in doubt. Heck most of my thoughts during treatment were negative, real negative! I literally threw his books in the trash, probably more of a symbolic gesture, but it felt good. BTW I am cancer free for the last 16 years, fathered a child and getting a kick out every day.

Bernie's central theme is that there is a strong correlation between emotional health and physical health. However he rarely cites any scientific evidence for his claim. He keeps repeating this message based on his experiences with random patients. Surely one can conclude many things from random patients, but a theory has to applicable accross a large sample. There has to be a 'control' if the study is to have any scientific merit. I wished he had shown more of these studies.
This would definitely be a five star book had the author been more scientific in prooving his point. Nevertheless I do personally agree with it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-13 01:28:32 EST)

I'd pretty much accepted that i was going to die from cancer. My doctors had too. My friend gave me this book and it caused a huge attitude shift in me. Now I feel that I have it within me to heal and live a long happy and healthy life. I've been told there is nothing medically can be done for me. If I hadn't read this book first I would have just laid down and died when they told me. But now I've opened myself up to other tools for healing - good diet, wheatgrass, reiki, meditation and absolutely no sugar. Time will tell, but I think I'm on the right track.
I thought this book was so good that I ordered a copy to give to my oncologist. He's a lovely man and I believe his desire to help his patients will lead him to use this book as a useful tool in the future. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-09 23:21:29 EST)

I'm submitting essentially the same review for Love, Medicine and Miracles as for Peace, Love and Healing. I read them in that sequence and also recommend that others read them in that sequence: Peace, Love, and Healing is very much a continuation of the earlier book. Having said that, the most important thing is for anyone facing a health crisis to read them both. The sequence in which they're read is less important than that they be read--and absorbed.
I was introduced to these books shortly after having been diagnosed with cancer by another person who was (and still is, unfortunately) dealing with some major health issues. Although I've read tons of stuff relating to cancer and, especially, treatments of various types and stripes, I can't think of anything that provided greater value and (even) guidance to me during those challenging days, mainly because getting the "head" right is half the battle--and the half of the battle that all too many completely neglect. One of the things that Bernie makes imminently clear to the reader is that he/she, the reader, has a great deal of power over the course of his/her illness. That's an important message to someone feeling powerless. Plenty of powerful examples, thought exercises, etc. The messages are uplifting, hopeful, life-affirming, empowering, and above all, realistic. Although I was vaguely aware of the mind-body connection before reading these books, I now understand that psychoneuroimmunology (if that is an unfamiliar term, you will become familiar with it by the time you've read Peace, Love and Healing) is real and can potentially be harnessed to the patient's great benefit: change the mind, change the body. Naturally, I can't do justice to these books with a few short sentences here. But here's the bottom line: these books should be read by anyone facing a health crisis who sincerely wants to get well. But they should also be read by anyone who has a friend or loved one facing a health crisis. Read them yourself before you send them on to the friend/loved one. You'll find them valuable both for yourself and also for helping your friend/loved one deal with it. The books should be read by anyone facing a life-threatening illness, but their value transcends cancer (or other serious illness) self-help by a long shot, valuable as that is. Even if your present health seems to be good, you should still read these books. They will help you live more effectively even if you never get sick. And they will surely equip you to deal with a major illness if you ever have to face one. (Review Data Last Updated: 2007-07-09 23:21:29 EST)

I have given this book to friends and families for over 20 years when I was at a loss as to what to say, do, or give to express my empathy for their road ahead. This book has great "mojo" and gives credence to "miracles" do happen as every person I've given this book to is still here to give it to others facing the same challenges. I'm writing this as I'm ordering it for the adult son of someone who has been given 6 months to live---they have their issues (don't we all with our fathers?) and I sincerely hope Dr. Siegel's words will bring comfort to him and his wife during his father's process of leaving this life for the next.

Once being diagnosed with a particularly aggressive breast cancer that had already metastisized, many well-intentioned friends gave me books to read. The only one I could read from cover to cover and the only one I would recommend to someone diagnosed with cancer is this book by Dr. Siegel. Attitude is everything and this deals with that aspect of the healing process.

This is an excellent book for anyone with cancer. I received it as a gift when I had cancer, and liked it so much, I have bought it for all of my friends that receive the news that they have cancer. I even bought one for my oncologist, who agreed with me, it is an excellent, uplifting and encouraging book, written by an excellent doctor. The author's insights and stories of his dealings with cancer patients, speaks to your soul. I highly recommend this book to anyone going through cancer treatments, and their family members.

When I review for Amazon (and other places), I usually write a traditional review. Doing so for this book seems redundant. I was recommending it once again--snagging that URL for two cancer patients--when it occurred to me I should pass on the love.
In the early 90s, when Cancer was still the big, frightening capital C word, this book not only got me through uterine cancer intact (that is, sans uterus but healthy attitude), it changed the way I live on a daily basis. More than a decade later, I still live differently. I don't believe that we must agree with everything in a book for it to be a great one. The idea of books is that they expose us to new ideas or show us a new aspect of something we needed to see. Though published in 1990, this book is--for the essential parts, the inspirational parts--still as valid today. I hope everyone with a life-threatening illness finds it or something like it. A book that can change their lives. In the minute. In the moment. ----- Reviewed by Carolyn Howard-Johnson, author of eight time award-winning THIS IS THE PLACE, three-time award-winning HARKENING, and TRACINGS, a chapbook book of poetry awarded a medal of excellence by the Military Writers Society of America. I plan on re-reading this amazing book, which should be mandatory reading for every student going into the medical profession. Whether faced with a serious illness or not, the book stimulates the spirit, bringing healing to our soul. Though no one lives forever, a soul at peace is like a 'nod' from us allowing the Great Physician to heal our body.

I quit caffeine about a year and a half ago after years of being a hard core coffee addict. I started cutting back slowly by mixing decaf with my regular coffee. After about two months of gradually increasing the decaf I was able to stop the coffee without getting the headache or bitchiness that normally happens with caffeine withdrawal. I bought this amazing book on amazon called The Truth About Caffeine by Kushner. You can discover many illnesses attributed to caffeine.I now drink herbal teas, soy bean coffee (caffeine-free) and lots of water instead. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-09-08 01:40:56 EST)

I'm a Hodgkin's patient who's almost finished reading this book. I found it to be an easy, quick read that felt good since it validated everything I feel about illness and life in general already. My guess is most of the reviewers who gave this book five stars are the same.
However, I have to agree with the two spotlighted reviewers and not give this book five stars. We're not all born with the same "toolbox" and turning a negative, passive personality into the positive, proactive one that Dr. Siegel claims is necessary to overcome disease doesn't happen very quickly (if at all) . . . it takes years, and a lot more resources than just this book. My spouse, Lynne Behar Eagen, upon initial diagnosis in November 1993, had stage four colon cancer. The prognosis was six months to a year. However, in part, Dr. Siegel's book helped her change her worldview, her way of seeing the world and responding to the world, which assisted her in living longer than was anticipated. My loving lady Lynne died February 26, 1996.
Dr. Siegel, thank you for your book and your in-person presentation in Tallahassee in 1994. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-07 20:25:57 EST)

I originally bought this for a friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer. After flipping through it I had to buy two more copies, one for another friend and one for myself. Even if you don't have cancer, a disease or an infection I think you will find lots of inspiration and a lot of practical advice in this book. This book is an easy read. There are a lot of amazing true stories sprinkled throughout the chapters. I've always believed in miracles being possible when our mind/body communication is opened up. This book helps to solidy that belief.

As someone with newly diagnosed prostate cancer, I found Bernie Siegel's book to be extremely helpful. Many people do not realize that surgeons are like mechanics. They know their field but often do not tap into the wholistic approach. It is very important to use every available resource to help the patient recover: spiritual, emotionsl, diet, exercise. If the Dr. tells the patient that he is going to die, and he/she believes it, you've taken away the hope that might have saved a life. There should always be hope.

I first encountered this book about a month prior to surgery for breast cancer. I was still in the 'what the heck is it' stage. What I got from Bernie was 'permission'...permission to be a 'difficult' patient...to ask questions and to learn as much as possible to become a partner in the eventual diagnosis and route to resolving the problem.
I asked questions, I read books, I spoke with the Cancer Society almost daily (in the days when you could easily reach a real person and not a recording!!). I also took a great deal of responsibility for my cancer and that, I think, has been the most important thing. I know that logically, I didn't 'cause' my illness...but I do believe I had a part in developing it. For a number of reasons, I somehow believe that I was responsible for acquiring cancer. But, whether or not this is true, what it has given me is the ability to take part in curing myself (or fighting against other life-threatening illnesses) because I believe I can DO something to help myself in a very positive way. IF I caused this disease, then perhaps I can CURE myself too, with some help from modern medicine. I learned NOT to be passive. I've seen too many people that I know die because they WERE passive. Sure they did what the doctors told them to do, but they didn't FIGHT...they were 'good patients'... I'm 20+ years past my double mastectomies now. I have just been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. I'm not just relying on pills to deal with this. I'm working very very hard to control this and extend my life. I'm not yet ready to die. Thank you Bernie for giving me permission to ask questions, to read and learn about my illnesses, to fight and to survive... There's no need to feel guilty about your illness...use this book to rally your strength and gain power to fight for life. 'do not go gentle into that good night...' This book is one of the very best I have read in a very long time. I read daily, many books and this one is at the top of my list. It is a keeper. Dr. Siegel is an awesome human being and many doctors, nurses, and any other health care professionals could learn volumes from this wonderful man. He has changed the lives of millions personnally with treatment and through his books. He has changed my life forever and for the better. This book and his sequel called "Peace, Love and Healing are the most awesome books. If you know anyone who is terminally ill or has a serious disease or disability they are living with, give them a copy of these 2 books. It will change their life profoundly. You could even be saving their lives. Dr. Siegel is an amazing man with so much to give and a very giving and loving person. He is a doctor that I wish every doctor would try to take after. So many doctors these days are too busy to even talk to their patients let alone listen to them. This man listens, helps and reacts. He takes everything seriously and responds to it. My life has been changed forever and is happier, healthier and more inspired and loving since reading Dr. Siegels 2 books. I was not able to put them down and in fact fell asleep every night reading the books and wished I didn't need to sleep so I could have read them faster because they have so much love, wisdom, faith and health to give to everyone. I recommend this book very highly and if you never read another book then please read Dr. Siegel's books and you won't need to read another book. You have it all right there. Everything you need to live a wonderful, happy, healthy life full of love and life is in these 2 books. Thank you Dr. Siegel and God bless. Well actually God has already blessed you in so many ways and then we have been blessed by God through you. You are a wonderful man and a great human being. I thank you for making such a wonderful and profound change in my life for the better. Please know how much you are appreciated. Thank you again and God bless Dr.

This book broke my heart. I read it, hoping to learn some more encouraging postivie ways of coping with my mother's cancer. Instead, I was subjected to an ideology that believes dying of cancer is the patients fault. Bernie, as he likes to be called, believes that patients are able to heal themselves if only they "love" enough. And if they don't, they die - regardless of treatment. Bernie also surmises that cancer is brought on by patients and their emotional states. That is outrageous! My mother, who is dying of cancer, has nothing but love to give and has been loving, kind and supportive all her life. I would love for Bernie to tell me what exactly he thinks my mother did to give her cancer and cause her to undergo the dying process??
I'm disgusted that he wrote this garbage and passes it on as a legitimate source for coping with terminal illness. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-07 20:25:57 EST)

I loved this book when I first read it. The healing stories, the practical advice, the positive outlook all resonated with me. I used some of Dr. Siegel's ideas in my book The Art of Getting Well: Maximizing Health When You Have a Chronic Illness.
But I kept encountering people who felt Love, Medicine and Miracles had hurt them or their loved ones who were struggling with cancer. Dr. Siegel states that "happy people don't get sick," and makes other statements that imply that illness is mostly our fault. He has tremendous compassion for the sufferers, but says that they could get better if they got their attitude adjusted. This healing from within may often be possible. But the physical and emotional conditions of people's lives can make such changes very difficult. And some diseases are so strong that all the change in the world may help, but will not cure. So I was very careful in writing Art of Getting Well to make clear that health conditions are not our fault. But it is still our responsibility to do the best we can with them. And we can often do very well indeed, and Dr. Siegel's book can help us. David Spero RN www.art-of-getting-well.com (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-07-07 20:25:57 EST)

Dr. Bernie is a godsend. It's been a few years since I read this, right after "Peace, Love and Healing" and felt more at peace with my diabetes than ever. His wisdom is spot on, but not always easy to follow, as many people with chronic or terminal illnesses are accustomed to living with a negative outlook.
This book will help you believe what most doctors won't tell you...that your illness needn't be the be all and end all, and you can feel confident and at peace. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-26 23:43:43 EST)

This book has changed my life! I am 43 years old with a wonderful husband of 18 years and three beautiful children, 14, 13 and 10. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It was by chance that it was caught, but nonetheless it is breast cancer. I am currently receiving radiation and have four more weeks to go. During the first week, I was sick to my stomach, felt weak, tired, couldn't eat and was a mess until I read this book. My neighbors had to drive me to my treatments and I had to wear headphones during the treatments. After reading the book I am a new person and went into treatments driving myself and hopping on the table without headphones. They were thrilled with me and I told them that everyone must read this book. I have share it with everyone I can and my mother said she can't put the book down.
I am very religious and at first wondered why me since I speak with God everyday, now I know how to visualize and love life to the extreme and am so happy to be alive. I still have the meditation part to go, but that will come. I also feel as though God is trying to lead me on a differnt path that I am on and will find out in time what that is. I must say this book is not just for people with illnesses, but for everyone. Thank you for changing my life!! I wish I could tell everyone in the world how wonderful this book is. I read this book a very long time ago and discovered that you can survive, but you need love in your life, someone who really and truly shows that they care. I had cancer at the time but luckily for me I also had a supporting husband who loved me very much.
I am not so lucky this time. Yes I have cancer again but I do not have love or support and must go it alone. I will not survive. This is a terrific book and I recommend it to everyone, even if you do not have health problems. It is truly a learning experience about the powers of love. This is a wonderful book, and I highly recommend it for anyone who's dealing with any sort of physical challenge. I had an orthopedic condition that dominated my life for several years, and Siegel's book taught me valuable lessons in dealing with my condition.
The first lesson is the importance of the patients asserting themselves in the doctor-patient relationship - not in a negative sense, but more as establishing a partnership in fighting the condition. One disappointment of mine is that Siegel's teachings haven't had more of an impact on the medical community. In fact, with the onset of managed care, medicine has gone even further in the opposite direction, and patients have to work harder than ever to become a "partner" in their treatment. The second lesson is the overiding importance of love for your health - both in increasing your chances of recovery and reducing the chances of getting sick to begin with. His message can easily be lost in today's analytical world of medicine, but it's crucial. The message in this book really applies to everyone - regardless of their health. I have been blessed to not only attend several of his workshops/programs,I have also email chat with him quite frequently... I could write a book on how much he has transformed my life to the better,& on how he taught me to much more successfully control/manage the rare life threatening neuro based disorder, cerebellar vestibular disease that I was diagnosed with sixteen years ago(9/84 then age 20) He is an extraordinarily perceptive/intuitive person & has been a wonderful life affirming supportive mentor for me... & best of all,he taught me how to better handle my rather difficult physician and others,,in a much more assertive but still loving way & taught me how to use the disease as a gift. I'm guilty and hesitant about not raving about this book. Bernie so obviously loves his exceptional patients and has done so much to highlight the importance of love as a part of healing.
I do not agree with the chapter that talks about the cancer personality. The cancer personality is one theory -- there are many theories about cancer. This book simply lays a guilt trip on someone if they don't view cancer as the greatest opportunity to change their life for the better. If one practiced the visualizing and the drawing and the proactive working with physicians, and still didn't go into remission/cure, wouldn't one feel like a failure? First you have a cancer personality; second, you died without changing it. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-24 16:27:01 EST)

This is the most helpful, well written book I've ever read. Siegel is a master at thought and the written word. I have given the book endless times to firends who are undergoing serious illness. Each one has said it got them through the tough times! Thanks, Dr. Bernie. You've made a great difference in the lives of countless individuals and certainly in the field of medicine. You give us the courage to question, the strength to hug, and the power to heal! Everyone should read this book.

Bernie Siegel's message is a powerful lure for those who would like to be exceptional patients. He demonstrates through numerous anecdotes that an individual can not only make themselves sick, but can also make themselves well. However, before wellness can occur, Siegel says, understand yourself including your stressors and conflicts. Having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer shortly before the end of the last century, I am intrigued with his technique for drawings which illustrate the inner workings of the subconscious. Also, as an educator of literature, I can relate to Siegel's many historical examples, namely Solzhenitsyn's novel, THE CANCER WARD. Personally, I found Siegel's positive attitude very encouraging. He basically reiterated what my own oncologist told me: "Attitude is everything when it comes to survival."

This book is an upbeat, positive approach and plan in dealing with any life altering diagosis. A perfect gift of hope and love for the patient, the patient's family, friends or yourself.
If medical treatment is already underway there may be a recognizable need to give a gentle reminder to a physician or healthcare giver that TenderLovingCare in the treatment of a patient is needed and expected. . (Perhaps, there is only a wish by you to thank the doctor for TLC already given), Love,Medicine and Miracles is a perfect gift; a perfect venue. Dr. Seigel's book makes the point and serves as a definitive reminder of the significance of LOVE, MEDICNE and MIRACLES in rendering treatment to a patient. The book was recommended to me when my husband was diagnosed with a catistrophic cancer;cholangio carcinoma, by a cancer patient who twice had cancers go into remission. Since, that time it has been a favorite gift for those who need positive encouragement; those awaiting, or who have received a frightening dignosis. How difficult it is to know what to say to help. I find that the gift of this book, LOVE, MEDICINE and MIRACLES provides the positive message of love and caring that I want for my family and friends. Dr. Siegel says it so much better than a just a bouquet of flowers would. During the many weeks of hospital time and treatment that my husband unerwent I realized THIS BOOK SHOULD BE REQUIRED READING FOR EVERY DOCTOR, NURSE and CAREGIVER. It is down to earth and forthright in the information, suggestions and examples given; truly a bright light in what is often a dark tunnel. (Review Data Last Updated: 2006-06-24 16:27:01 EST)

I was given this book to read - to teach me the power of ones own mind - then I was diagnosed with MS which completely changed my life. This book taught me to paint, to express myself through visual art. The MS erased my ability to make music in which I was trained classically in voice and piano. This book taught me to accept and love what I have. I have become an artist who teaches music. my web site www.vjsltd.com

I reviewed this book weeks ago, with no reaction, then I sent a note which was placed as a review (where did my original review go?). What I was trying to say was that I found Siegel very heartwarming, but had (only) one complaint namely the referring to experiments on animals without a word of regret. There was a description of baby monkeys not surviving without their mother when in an extra stressful situation (or something like that, it was SO SAD, I wanted to forget it if possible). I think if you write about love you should at least, if you can't avoid that type of experiment (which I think you often can) say something in defense of the lives offered. I missed that. Normally medical journals never stop to think of this, but the whole point is Siegel does not have the cool, clinical, medical approach. Yet there was no mention from him either. That is my only complaint. My first reaction was better, it's kind of second hand now. Yet I hope you will send it out as it is a point worth mentioning, even though not popular. In fact it's a new idea and worth thinking about. Anotherwords as few experiments as possible and if you have to use them, refer to them, then at least add something regarding the suffering they have caused. Like an Indian would, or a Buddhist. Otherwise he is very impressive and so loving, so unclinical. Very nice indeed. With best wishes, Kathy Heckscher

This is to say I already reacted and wonder where my reaction is? In the meantime I sent a copy of some pages to my sister (she lives in London, England) who also had not yet heard of him and was "in love" immediately. She said he even looks like his name. So this message is only to confirm my earlier message. With best wishes

This book/audio tape is a true rarity. In a world of negativism and pessimism, Dr. Siegel brings a viewpoint full of joy and love and honesty to those who are ill and even to those who are healthy. He has gotten me to rethink my attitudes about cancer and the traditional treatments which are forced on us by the insurance industry. I know now that I am going to beat the cancer which has invaded my body. When you combine modern medicine, caring doctors, alternative treatments, the prayers and support of family and friends, and the joyous philosophy of Dr. Siegel, you can't lose. Everyone, sick or healthy, should read or listen to this book. It is a God-send.

Anyone with any type of illness should read this book. Dr. Siegel was my surgeon when I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease 15 years ago. He autographed the first edition hardcover version of this book when it first came out. He helped me to survive and I am now re-reading this book since i've just been diagnosed with another type of Hodgkin's Disease. Patients and their families will find great value in this wonderful book.

Dr. Siegel is well known for his work with cancer patients. His approach to dealing with chronic illness is a mind, body, spirit approach that ultimately strengthens the individuals who choose to face their illness head on. I found the attitudes he proffered applied to my husband Tom's illness as it applies to cancer and other chronic conditions. His message was meaningful to both of us and helped us build a base of hope otherwise denied us by the traditional medical people we en-countered in the early stages of Tom's illness. His meditation tapes and lectures were extremely helpful in my being able to survive Tom's illness after Tom lost the ability to participate in his life.

Having spent time with dying friends, I found this to be an encouraging, cheerful book. I appreciated the positive emphasis on attitude, and also the information about saying goodbye to a dying person, giving that person permission to leave. Also, I appreciated how much the author revealed of his own feelings about death and dying.

I was diagnosed with terminal cancer almost a year ago. I was given three copies of Dr. Siegel's book and it helped me more than any other book which I have subsequently read - including "Anatomy of an Illness" by Norman Cousins, "Getting Well Again" by Simonton's , "You can Heal your Life" by Louise Hay, "Quantum Healing" by Deepak Choppra, and countless others. "Chicken Soup for the Surviving Soul" ranked second. I am doing great and credit having read Dr. Siegel's book with giving me the initial hope. I was disappointed though that despite several calls to the number listed in the book, I never received a reply when I requested information re his workshop and cassette tapes. My email address is charth@bellsouth.net if you have any comments. Thanks. I did not know you existed until recently. I wish I had known; I could have saved a lot of $$ on books.
