As an aspiring Brand Strategist I felt that Logo Design Love provided a great foundation for non creatives to gain some insight into the world of Brand Identity. The words were clear, the layout of the book was great and it flowed really well. Also, the examples Airey used in the book were excellent. I recommend this book especially to any non creatives, it's a great read.

David Airey's book with the same name as his blog is a great primer and design companion for anyone who loves design or wants to. Cool logo references and solid explanations make for a quick read that's down right fun. I refer to it regularly for advice and inspiration. Good stuff.

Logo Design Love by David Airey provides insight into the process of designing a logo. The theories and best practices presented are concrete tips that easily apply to designing well beyond a logo.
The book is divided into three main sections: The importance of brand identity The process of design Keep the fires burning I found the second section to be the most useful. The design process is documented from start to finish. The designer-client relationship is explained in great detail. How do I select good clients? Which questions should I ask? How much money should I charge? How should I estimate project durations? Where can I get design inspiration? How can I create an attractive design? All of these questions and more are answered clearly. The book is written in a nice easy to read format with plenty of logos sprinkled throughout. You will find many great ideas and plenty of notable logos. But the real value lies in understanding why an idea is important, or what makes a logo useful. David does a wonderful job educating the reader. Application What I really love about this book is the practicality. For somebody like me, with limited design exposure, the advice could be directly applied to my work. I have already benefited from Logo Design Love. When designing my personal site, I had elaborate plans for the logo. I first wanted to have an animated iPhone keyboard with the "m" remaining. I then thought of spelling macfam with an app icon for each letter (eg. Facebook icon for "f", or CliqCliq Colors icon for "c"). Sure, those ideas might be more interesting than the current pixel based "mf" logo. But Logo Design Love taught me a few things to guide me towards a simpler, more universal logo. Most importantly: the logo should easily translate to various mediums. The same logo on this page is used when you add my mobile site to your iPhone homescreen. David writes: "As much as you might want to see your work plastered across billboards, don't forget your design may also need to accommodate smaller, yet necessary, application, such as zipper pulls." My two initial logo ideas would have struggled fitting on a zipper! Simple is more effective, easier to identify with, and much more adaptable. I also drew inspiration from the chapter on the client-designer relationship. Just last week I met with a potential client looking for a website. I felt more prepared and confident in the meeting because of this book. The book provides great detail on gathering preliminary information from a client. I gathered more relevant information from my client than I would have before reading this book. These are only two examples of practicing what David Airey preaches in Logo Design Love. I have a few additional "long term" ideas in the back of my head. I highly recommend reading Logo Design Love. The book is well organized, well written and packs loads of useful information. I was on the fence whether I wanted to continue offering this as a service and it really helped me make that decision. I wish it had more examples of the process from start to finish, I'm very visual and the ones he had were very helpful but I would really have liked more. The logo updates scenarios were interesting and helpful. Overall the book was exactly what I was looking for and provided the information in an excellent manner.

Of the many Identity Branding books I have read, this is the most comprehensive look at the process of the design. It is intended for new comers to the design world and gives a great overview of how many iconic logos have come about. I highly recommend this for any design student or freelancers that are just starting out.

This is a great book for anyone in the graphic design business. I have read many books on many design topics in the past year. This one, by far, is the best! It packs the essential information you need to know about logo design and design business practices all in an easy to read, quick format. I have recommended this book to many designer friends and my graduate school professors. It would be great to use as a college resource book for design courses.

The favorite books on my shelf, in all subjects, are always small. Small does not mean scant. My favorite small books are always incredibly dense, and have dispensed with extraneous chapters, trivial pursuits, and needless diversions. David Airey's "Logo Design Love" is such a book. It is a comprehensive survey of the logo design process. It's easy to read quickly. It's lovely to hold. It has that "now this is a book I want to keep" feel to it, and is reserved on my shelf in my favorites section. Or "favourites" as David might put it.
I know David from his blog. His personal, conversational tone on his blog bleeds right over to the book. Warm yet consummately professional. He tells you what you need to know about logo design, and refrains from abstruse pontificating that some other "Goliath" design books get mired in. That is very refreshing! If you are looking to break into the designing of logos and brands, there is no better book I'm aware of to do that succinctly, on budget, and on time, than Logo Design Love. Big things do come in little packages sometimes! Highly Recommended! Douglas Bonneville [...]. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-06-21 12:46:47 EST)

While I enjoyed reading "Logo Design Love", I had mixed feelings when I was done.
I really thought I'd get more action steps and less, "look at this"; more of "how" to do something and less of "they did a nice job." I thought the design of the book was marginal. Cover totally uninspiring and out of balance, inside used sans serif (not an American favorite for printed copy). It felt like it was a compendium of blogs copied directly and printed in Arial. Huge amounts of white space made it feel like an ad primer or visual candy. The layout and the the type did NOT make me want to read this. I had to generate internal motivation to do that. If you want to learn about design, get and read anything/everything from Before & After. John McWade can not only tell you why something works but how to do it yourself on your next project. If you want to see and read a little about interesting designs, "LDL" will work. All in all, I suppose it's worth the money. You just need to be aware of what it is that you're actually getting for that money. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-06-21 12:46:47 EST)

Excelent book about who to make iconic design, I feel's "light" to read and easy to undestand.
Clear concepts and good examples makes simple to catch the concept behind the book. 5 star's... (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-05-10 13:45:44 EST)

This brief gem gets right to the point. I especially enjoyed the section on creative process and sketching ideas as a way to arrive at memorable design solutions. David's advice about building web sites for portfolios -- forget Flash, just show your work -- was right on the money. A delightful and helpful read from cover to cover.

Great book for some quick inspiration on creating logo's. The writer went though his process for creating some of the most inventive and memorable logo's used today. I like the way it shows the use of sketches to come up with and determine what is the best choice to represent the company.

This book is wonderful! You get all the information you want without all the stuff you don't. You get real world advice and tips from someone who has been there and done it. The advice he gives you don't get in school or by working an internship. Most "inspiration" books only provide the finished creation without any understanding as to how the designer arrived at it or what the client wanted. David explains what the client wanted in their logo, the process he took to get it, and how he markets it to the client. I sincerely hope he will write more books in the future.

David's book is a very good overview of the logo design process covering everything from setting the stage with the client for the best process-to-product result, to sourcing inspiration for creative flow. The book is short and concise--aligning with the subject matter--and shows a wide variety of creative problem solving outcomes from a variety of designers working with a diverse range of clientele. It's an excellent resource for a designer or student bookshelf.

Love Logo Design by David Airey is easily one of the best books on branding I have ever read. I think this book is fantastic! It is a short but extremely informative read. The book is a brilliant refresh course on branding. The methods and practices discussed in this book can be applied to more than just branding projects, which makes it a must have for any designer's book collection.
Buy this book, read it, and spread the word. Also check out Davids site for more knowledge/inspiration [..] "Stay inspired" Corey Jones [..] (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-04-05 00:32:06 EST)

I read this book with such an ease. I think it's the first Graphic Design book i finished reading. I found it very useful. It answered a lot of questions i had and made me think about certain details i usually leave on the side. I would say that the most important thing, is that this book gave me my motivation back.
Good job David! (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-03-24 00:52:26 EST)

David Airey knocks it clean out of the park with 'Logo Design Love'. Not only is it beautiful to thumb through, it provides meaningful, simple information to help make any designer better at logo design and brand management. Definitely recommended. It's worth far more than the asking price.

A very practical guide to dealing with clients and designing logos. Really gives a look into Airey's process and his open view of the process is really helpful. You never feel as though you're not being let in on something. The writing style is very friendly.
My only criticism is length. I felt like a bit more could have been elaborated on. However, the length really added to the friendly, open feel of the book, so I can't dock it too much. Overall, if you are looking for a quick read about modern logo design and have some questions on how to design logos, this book is perfect. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-03-17 13:00:12 EST)

This book is truly a guide. More specifically it is a guide for self-employed designers. It covers topics that are specific to the entire operation from creating a design brief, talking to clients and taking control of the project all the way to presentation and completion. It even has an Q&A section in the back that is as informative as the rest of the book. Type size is large and set spaciously and it's very easy to read. I read it in 2 sittings and I would recommend keeping it handy as a resource. David goes through the entire design process step by step and the table of content can easily be used as a checklist for that. The book is as inspiring as the author's blog. Great examples and anecdotes from his own experience. I would recommend this to other designers, esp ones who are thinking self-employment. Great stuff. I found it very useful.

I've really enjoyed reading this book. It helped to reinforce the process that I use to design logos, along with few additional ideas. I highly recommend this book for those starting out in graphic design, and for the seasoned designers looking to review the necessary steps to great logo design.

I have been a Graphic Designer for about 12 years now. It seems that creativity is one of those things that you are 'supposed to be born with'. WRONG. As David Airey displays on his book, you don't need to be great at drawing or using a computer. David's formula for iconic brand creation goes step by step showing you in normal language the ropes of the design of a great iconic brand design. A great book. As mentioned, I have been in the industry for a long time, and even though I consider myself to be 'pretty knowledgeable' chap, there was always a guide or bible -sort of speak- missing. With this book I have a basic process in mind, where I know where the client is, I learn where they want to get and eventually I, as a designer, help them to get there. Thanks David, awesome book. When is part 2 coming?

I've been following David's blogs for a few years now, and it was incredible to get such a focused summary of what he's been writing since 2006! It covers everything from the first client meeting to the final delivery, and everything that needs to be considered outside of the creative process.
I would suggest it to students and professionals, alike. It only took a few hours to read (and really read, not just skim), but it's full of information that I will use for a lifetime. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-02-28 00:29:07 EST)

Gives tips on how to tackle sticky situations with clients, how to back up your brand and shows thought processes and behind the scenes rough sketches in different designers' processes. A good read for any logo or branding designer. Easy to read, just the right amount of complexity to make it a valuable resource (so not just for beginners like many other branding books).

I thought the book was great! I've been a designer for 10 years & this book kept me entertained the entire time reading it. I was able to learn a bunch of new things, while brushing up on others. It was great to go through the entire process from beginning to end, seeing how to deal with the business end of the project as well as the creative side and seeing many of the other decisions made along the way when designing a logo.

Logo Design Love by David Airey was very insightful. It takes you through the back-end of branding and corporate identity and covers all areas in between. The plain text (laymen terms) promotes tremendous ease of readability and comprehension. I created one of my best logos yet from the notes I took while reading the book (that I finished in one sitting because it was just that interesting)!
I would recommend this book to anyone curious enough or aspiring to dabble into logo design. (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-02-28 00:29:07 EST)

I've followed David Ariey's insight for quite some time. Between his Twitter posts, e-mail updates and Web site content, I feel that his breadth of knowledge in the design industry has been very beneficial. When I heard about "LogoDesignLove," I pre-ordered it right away. Upon reading the book, I believe that this is the one, go-to book for any logo designer. I'm a graphic designer myself, with a love for logo design. This is a book I keep in my office and flip through often, for inspiration, insight and industry information. It's up front and center amongst my other design books.

Disclaimer: I won a copy of this book from David through a Facebook contest. That said, I do think this book is a great read. I've read other similar books, so it was a little bit of a review, but David's writing is great for both designers and non-designers. I've enjoyed his blogs for a while now and this is definitely some new information (not just recycled) and he has a great way of breaking things down. I hope more non-designers read this and just grasp some of the importance of what good design (logo or otherwise) can do for them.

It just took me 2 days to read the book, I just couldn't stop.
The author explains in a friendly and down-to-earth way the logo design process, as well as illustrates those concepts with helpful examples. As I was reading it, I felt like someone else in the world did understand the day to day situations, problems and decisions I was having, and of course David Airey shares clever ideas and solutions to face those situations. Also, it is a great source for inspiration. It's a must-have in every logo desingers bookshelf. I totally recommend it!! (Review Data Last Updated: 2010-02-28 00:29:08 EST)
